Nobody knows which team Carmelo Anthony will be playing for this time next week or the week after. In the last 24 hours, he has been getting ready to meet with and sign with two teams, the New Jersey Nets and the New York Knicks.
World was out yesterday that the Denver Nuggets and the New Jersey Nets had reached an agreement on a mega-trade which would send All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony to the East Coast for a series of players. I heard about it, plus you probably heard about it, and the New York Knicks heard about it.
More specifically Knicks owner Jim Dolan heard about it. He and the Knicks decided to up the ante on their offer to the Nuggets.
According to Marc Spears of Yahoo Sports, New York gave the Nuggets a choice. They could get either forward Danilo Gallinari added to the deal or is they preferred New York would add rookie guard Landry Fields.
The Nuggets preferred Gallinari so the Knicks have added him to their offer, which already included guard Ray Felton, Wilson Chandler, center Eddy Curry and a first round draft pick in the future. The extra-benefit of Curry is his expiring contract.
For those players, the Knicks would get Anthony, Denver point guard Chauncey Billups, Renaldo Balkman and Shelden Williams.
According to a number of reports, Dolan met with Anthony on Thursday in Los Angeles. An interesting point to add to the situation is the fact that Knicks General Manager Donnie Walsh and head coach Mike D’Atoni don’t want to do the deal.
Dolan, who has always been known as a foolish owner who thinks he knows more than he does. He had screwed up the Knicks in the past and many of their fans are afraid he’s going to do it again with this deal. Why does he hire a GM and head coach, but refuse to listen to them?
He’s expected to have this deal done well before the trade deadline which is on the 24th of February.
The deal which the Nets had on the team included rookie forward Derrick Favors, point guard Devin Harris, guard Ben Uzoh, and the expiring contract of Troy Murphy.
