Roseman Has Reason To Be Proud Of Drafting MLB Jamar Chaney

As you would imagine, Howie Roseman and the Eagles are excited about middle linebacker Jamar Chaney. They should because this young immediately showed that he’s a player. I loved his instincts and passion to get to the football.

He’s a playmaker who has the ability to find the football regardless of where it is. You can’t teach that to a linebacker. He either has the instincts it takes to find the football and make things happen or he doesn’t.

“I mean, you put him in and it’s a playoff run, and he’s going in on national TV, and he’s making 15 tackles against the Giants and he’s calling out defensive signals and he’s pointing people in the right spots. and that’s impressive”, Roseman said with excitement of a proud Papa. “And part of what we try to do in these drafts is get high-character people who can come in and play and the game’s not too big for him.”

I’ll bet you Roseman smiles at night when he thinks of Chaney because that was a tremendous pick. Drafting a player who is able to help you in the first year is outstanding.

The young man forced fumbles at key times. He forced a fumble to help the Eagles come back and win the Giants game with the season on the line. He also forced a fumble in the Green Bay Packers playoff game that allowed the Birds to get back in that game.

If something happens it’s not a big deal, when it happens again, it’s not a coincidence. This kid is good. Like a number of the other rookies, he needs to get in the weight room and get bigger and stronger.

Roseman pointed out the way he took charge of the huddle and earned the respect of the veterans in such a short period of time. The rookie middle linebacker started making plays on the very moment they put him on the field. This young is good now but he’s got room to get better in fact much better.

Chaney may be the best player they drafted last year. He was a seventh round pick and had more of impact on the football team than any of the other rookies, in fact I don’t know if the Eagles make the playoffs, if Chaney doesn’t come on the scene and play as well as he did.

“And for him, coming from Mississippi State, coming from the SEC, he played at a high level of competition”, Roseman said. “He can play MIKE, he can play WIL, he’s going to continue to get better. One of the things we thought he could improve on and our coach did a great job, Mike Caldwell, worked on him with his hand use, and he came here and he knew it was something he had to improve on, and he worked on it all through training camp and continued to work on it through the regular season, and he gets into a game, all of a sudden he’s using those long arms, he’s able to get off blocks, he’s not staying blocked for long, so we’re excited about Jamar Chaney.”

All I can say is the sky is the limit for Chaney. He’s got the potential of being a very special player for the Birds. Next to Michael Vick, Jamar Chaney was the best surprise of 2010 for the Philadelphia Eagles.

I have to respectfully disagree about that G..
I think the fact the Chad Hall made an NFL Roster and worse yet, Coach AR/MM devised and called running plays for him when inside the Red-Zone instead of utilizing McCoy/Harrison was the biggest surprise of the Eagles Season (outside of Vick). Then again, as Eagles fans we should not be surprised to see these head-scratching plays at crucial times of the game by the Eagles

7th round pick that produces is a big suprise. Chaney, Clyaton are two great picks in my opinion. To bad they have to mess up on players like Teo. They are not good with picking 3rd round players.

Wake me when he can cover a TE/RB.

The eagles haven’t figured that out in about 7 years now.

from the first quarter chaney played for the eagles, i said he would be a mainstay and start for us.
i jsut like to step out on the limb and make predictions
he is better in the middle than bradley, whom is a natural strongside lb
with that said, fokou is another good draft pick and did a solid job
im curious to see how the lb corps plays out

The Eagles are decent at picking in the later rounds. Unfortunately, you need to hit some on the early rounds to get true difference makers and that’s where they miss. Every team makes mistakes but the Jerome Mcdougle type mistakes just kill you. Daniel Teo …. simply can’t play, whoever scouted him should be fired.

I am still shocked Chaney lasted until the 7th round of the draft. I watched many SEC games and he always stood out at Miss St. I had him as a 3rd-4th round pick due to his speed alone.

Chaney’s lack of overall size (height) is what hurt him, He was a tackling machine at MIss State who has another good OLB coming out in the Draft who I like I lot too and was a teammate of Chaney’s ..
KJ Wright at 6-3 & 246 lbs would be a great Pick with one of the Eagles 4th Rd Selections. He very active and fast and would a great Pick-up
