Phillies General Manager Ruben Amaro put a downer on his comments about Chase Utley before he even spoke to the media, by saying, “I don’t know if it’s good news or not good news. It’s just news.”
Amaro Jr. says he’s taken “baby steps” in rehab. This doesn’t seem like it’s headed any where good. As I see it, Utley has a problem which must be dealt with via surgery. I hope the Phillies don’t want too long before sending him under the knife.
Here’s what Amaro. Jr. had to say this morning about the health of his All-Star second-baseman, according to Ryan Lawrence of the Delaware County Times.
“We’ve done some consultations with some doctors and right now, after consulting with Dr. Cicotti as well, we’re comfortable with the progressions we’re doing right now’, Amaro Jr. said. “He’s actually been able to do some more exercises that he had not been doing before. He showed some progression in some of the exercises. I don’t think he’s taking ground balls quite yet. Some of the work he’s been doing with Scott Sheridan on his rehab — he’s done some more things. I don’t know if that’s necessarily a huge progression, but he’s started to take baby steps forward, we hope, and I think he’s feeling a little bit better.”
I think Utley’s days as one of the top Players on the Phils and in the MLB are over.. They need to start thinking about who is the future 2B on this club for the next 3-5 Season.. I do wish Utley well but he hasn’t been right for over the last 18 months,,, and don’t foresee him contributing much once/if he returns..
