The Eagles seem to be in a feverish hunt for linebackers. They working them out all over the place. I learned from a source that the Birds worked out three University of Connecticut linebackers today. They took a close look at Lawrence Wilson, Scott Lutrus and Greg Lloyd.
Each of the linebackers had worked out at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis.
Wilson has been a playmaker for the Huskies for the last few years. He stands 6’1″ and weighs about 229. He seems to have very good speed but ran only a 4.75 at the Combine workout in Indy. He needs to run better at the UConn Pro Day.
Again he’s on the small side but I do like the way he gets to the football. He seems to play better than his measureables.
Lutrus is a middle linebacker, who has got good measureables. He stand 6’2″ and weighs 240 lbs and ran a 4.68 at the NFL Combine. The young man really impressed with his 38 inch vertical jump and 10’1″ broad jump.
I’m impressed by those numbers, but I’m not blown away by the tape of him playing. I can understand why the Eagles are taking another look at him.
Lloyd is the biggest of the three, standing 6’2″ and weighing 259 pounds. He ran a 4.84 in the 40-yard dash which puts on the borderline of being able to play linebacker in the NFL.
I didn’t get the chance to see him on tape, but my indications are that he probably won’t be drafted but will be invited to some camps as a free agent.
It sounds like they are aware of the problems. Now let us see if they can get the talent or if they go with the “I like his hips and he has a great motor bullsnot.” All I want is a first round OT
Let’s hope something finally clicked in there minds being that the two teams in the superbowl had great linebacking core groups. The packers had LBS for days they had guys on IR (Nick Barnett) yet didn’t miss a beat. The eagles obviously see that and hopefully want to build a team that is deep at every position. The difference between the eagles and packers was that the packs had more playmakers on both sides of the ball but since were focusing mainly on the LBs they had guys there that flew around causing problems they were instinctive playmakers, sis things that couldn’t be taught
So its about time that the eagles search long and hard for LBs that can be GAME CHANGERS, not just your everyday LBs that just bc they’re solid on special teams they should have starting jobs no those days are over its time to make changes so we can keep up with the rest of the teams in the league
What the eagles should do is look at a linebacker by the name of Casey Matthews (brother of Clay Matthews) he’s 6’2 237 pounds they’ll put weight on him, he under acheived in college yet still led the team in tackes, he’s instinctive he just makes play, his father was great his brother is great and the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, if the eagles draft him they won’t regret it.
