Eagles To Workout Center, Fusco And Safety, Jarrett

Next Tuesday April 5th, the Eagles will be getting a visit from Slippery Rock center Brandon Fusco. He’s a big boy, who reportedly plays a physical style.

The young man stands 6’4″ and weighs 316 pounds. He started for four years during his time at Slippery Rock, which is located near Pittsburgh.

It’s common knowledge that the Birds are looking to add a right guard who could also play center or vice versa.

Taking a close look at Fusco makes sense because they might have to draft him If they’re not able to grab Florida’s Mike Pouncey or one of the other top offensive linemen in the first or second rounds.

Wilmington News Journal reporter Geoff Mosher says the Birds will put Temple safety Jaiquawn Jarrett through a workout on April 6th. The young man has additional workouts coming up with the Broncos, the Giants, the Jets and the Rams.

Jarrett ran a 4.65 in the forty-yard dash at the NFL Combine. His vertical jump was 30″ and his standing broad jump was 9’5″. The Temple Owl safety threw up 225 pounds on the bench press 14 times.

As you can see, his numbers don’t jump out at me, but Jarrett is a solid football player, who has good instincts and high football I.Q. If the Birds let Quintin Mikell walk, they’re going to need another safety on the roster.

There’s a chance he could be grabbed in rounds five, six or seven by the Birds.

these guys are 7th round picks… Eagles are taking a closer look at players like this because with the lockout teams are not allowed to sign undrafted free agents after the draft like they usually do, so the 7th round picks are important to them

I’d rather have Mike Pouncey and DeAndre McDaniel. But, Jarret looks like he can develop into a play maker I like the way he tackles and throws his body around.

I like Center Brandon Fusco from Slippery Rock as a late 6th/7th Rd Selection He’s ranked as the 5th/6th TOp Center in the Draft and could also play some guard, has good feet and toughness about him (he reminds me of a Hank Fraley type).. Remember that Jamall Jackson probably has 2 years left in his body
Safety Jarrett from Temple has been rising up the Draft Board in a very thin Safety Class this Draft..He will probably will go in the 5th Round to someone since there are not many Safeties in this Draft (my sources have told me the Broncos,Chargers,BIlls and Cowboys like what they see in him…)

There’s one more thing I need to say…….I don’t ever want to hear a “player have lost a step”, as an excuse for letting players go. We said Dawk lost a step but yet he’s still better than any safety on our roster….and yes, that includes Nate Allen. before Nate Allen was hurt he was torched and schooled by Britt in that Tennesee game and teams was looking him out of position all season….and he have suffered an injury that Dawk never experienced..Are we going to apply the “lost a step” tag to a player who suffered a season ending serious ACL tear like Allen? No….

Why?

Bcause Nate Allen is not in dispute with the front office for a new contract. We’ll just suppose Nate Allen can at least get back to the speed he had against the Titans.

Another question…Have we ever seen Dawk ran over by running backs in his career as many times compared to Nate Allen’s one season?…

Here’s some reality

Brian Dawkins still have not been replaced.

Remember we didn’t pay Trot in his prime and used the excuse that our organization put more premium on the lines and the corners?

Have you taken a good look at the right corner we went into last season with?

It’s clear this organization lies to avoid paying proven players their worth…and it ends up costing us in the win column, and eventually we’ll overspend for someone elses player when we could have paid our dedicated player.

Look at our secondary

One player “Asante Samuel” is a keeper….the other spots are just spots….

Answer this truthfully

If Brian Dawkins, Lito Sheppard, and Sheldon Brown was on our team along with Asante Samuel………..

Would that be a better Secondary?

Before you try dismissing by pointing out their age and shortcomings…answer the question.

Yes, they’re older and have flaws….but the guys we have are worse.

So don’t go pointing out flaws when the guys you have like Dimitri Patterson stinks.

He’s younger….but not better.

Nate Allen is younger…but not better

And if you let go talent only to replace them with worse talent….

You’re left with our Secondary….looking to improve the once strong part of our defense.

Another thing…I don’t want to hear that all teams do this!!!!!

Ronde Barber is 106 years old…the Ravens have an older and often injured Reed …yet they’ll hold on to them knowing getting younger is not always better.

Younger means cheaper for the Eagles….that’s why they are labeled as cheap. Not that they refuse to spend money..They refuse to pay their top tier players at contract time…and will readily dismiss them even if they have to pay a younger bum less.

Until the Eagles adjust that part of their business they’ll stay competitive, but will never win a Superbowl.

Webster’s dictionary – for the entry ‘cakewalk’ – definition #1: Extremely easy thing to do – example ‘replacing a talent like Brian Dawkins’

Songs, I can honestly say (no hostility, seriously) that if I had 3 wishes from a genie today, I’d strongly consider ‘a sense of perspective for my pal Songs on Gcobb’s site’ as one of them.
