The USA Today has put together a number of list of regarding the salaries of Major League Baseball players and the salaries of the various teams. To no one’s surprise the New York Yankees sit atop the list, but the number two team is the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Yankees salaries total $202,689,028 million dollars, while the Phillies salaries total $172,976,379 million dollars. Of course the addition of the Phillies All-Star starting pitchers have pushed the salaries up. The addition of Cliff Lee, Roy Halladay and Roy Oswalt have moved the team’s total salaries up higher and higher.
Here are the top salaries per position in the Major Leagues:

I shed a tear today while reading about the Phils acceptance of a Harry Kalas statue. Just wanted to share that. Don’t ever forget the man. The only voice I knew when it comes to Phils games my entire life. 26 years old and I will never forget. I still tear up every time I hear his final call. What a perfect way to go out.
The pressure, window of opportunity to win the WS is this season, no excuses..
Theye will have diffcult decisions after the 2011 Season either way and will have some large amount of $$$ coming off the books..
Rollins, Oswalt, Ibanez,Blanton,Lidge alone account for approx $50 Million and most likely these 5 will not be back in a Phillie Uniform in 2012. They have to address Cole Hamels which if he has a big season will be looking at that $12-15 Million Salary per year..
Anything less than a World Series this season, I believe the Phils Brain Trust will start to dismantle the team bit by bit and go with younger, cheaper players and revert back to their old ways of their Roster Management/Player Contracts
which I am not saying is the right way or wrong way to go..But if they fail to win the WS with this high payroll, you can bet your bottom $$ that it will only come down in the next 2-3 years as they begin to turn over the roster and say bye to the older players… So enjoy it while it lasts this season and while that “window” is still open…

Ditto to Birdo
Harry Kalas and Richie Ashburn were the best Broadcasting team in my opinion, I grew up listening to them (with Byrum Saam) sin ethe early 70’s and it was a real treat..Phillie fans were truly blessed to have such a broadcasting team that had such a knowledge,the talent,& profesionalism,humor and comradarie as those guys did.. Back in the day before ESPN/MLB Networks and Cable TV, you were’nt able to see many games on TV and it was by radio and local newspapers that you followed your favorite teams.. A time truly gone by that kids/fans of today have little understanding or appeciation of on how these guys brought the games to your imaginiation and understanding.

It’s not negativity Schiller, It’s called being realistic.. Every time I mention the reality of the state of the Franchises,it’s Players and Coaches it’s viewed that I am being negative…The Phils have some very difficult decisions after the 2011 Season and if they fail to bring home the hardware this season, it wil most likley make their decisions a little easier to go young and start turning over the roster and with Halladay/Lee locked up, they are still going to be in good shape but there will be many changes after this year I believe..
The Phillies are not gonna start being cheap, Paulman. Not after they saw what will happen when they put a competitive team on the field. I am not talking about just the winning either, I am talking about the fan support. They were suffering for a long time to get fans to come here. Now they have an overabundance, and they will not revert to their former selves and destroy that.
Is anyone going to point out that Derek Lowe is not a shortstop but Pitcher for ATL?….
i don’t really see that the decisions are going to be that difficult honestly. Ibanez will be replaced with Dom Brown, Lidge is a def. to be gone, Oswalt will be back if he doesn’t want to retire and is healthy most of the year and performs well. i think Blanton is signed thru next year, but i could be wrong. Rollins will depend completely on performance. he doesn’t want to play anywhere else and we have no replacement for him in the system. if he has a good year he will probably be given a 3 year contract.
i don’t think this team winning a championship will determine anything as far as future moves. Amaro already knows they need to get younger, he’s said as much a hundred times. they will have a young bullpen next year, and Dom Brown will be the first of the young guys to come up. the phils minor league system is very rich in the lower levels, especially pitching. they should be able to slowly transfer over to a new core of very talented young players starting in 2014 or so. at that time they should have a very good mix of expensive veterans (Halladay, Lee, Howard, hopefully Hamels) with cheap and talented young blood (Cosart, Colvin, Brown, Singleton, etc.).
