The Problem I Have With Andre Iguodala

The biggest problem I have with Andre Iguodala is his lack of confidence and refusal to drive to the hoop. He has the ability but lacks the confidence. If you notice against lesser opponents he plays great games. It’s like he’s afraid of being “that guy” on the court but wants that title. This series was the time for him to show what he has.

During this time of year, guys play with the worst injuries. Iggy’s play in this series has been inexcusable.

Iguodala has been missing wide open shots. He’s afraid of Lebron James and Dwyane Wade. I can tell. I’ve been ballin’ for years. I can tell when someone is playing scared. I watched the game last night and when he missed open shots and had key turnovers, I said he needs to get traded straight up and down. I appreciate the effort he gives on defense but there is no reason why he shouldn’t be averaging 20-24 points a game.

For some guys playing defense is easier than scoring the ball. Carmello Anthony for example can’t play defense very well, but his offensive game is off the charts. Iggy is the opposite. He has no type of enthusiasm on the offensive side.

It’s almost like he’d rather have a shot clock violation than actually shoot the basketball. Even Doug Collins has said, “I want Andre Iguodala to score more. I want him to shoot more instead of setting other guys up all the time. He doesn’t want to shoot, he’d rather set someone up.”

It comes a point in every game where if you’re “the go-to-guy” on your team you can’t continue to set your teammates (who have lesser ability then you) up. You’ve got to go win the “freakin” game and stop playing so soft. He’s got to get traded. I was hoping he could improve his shooting and become a better scorer but he’s not willing to take his game to the next level and stand up when it’s time to.

He has angered this fan base. There were grunts and groans when he missed or turned the ball over. Iggy hasn’t improved his game. Think about Team USA. He was asked to defend and rebound, that’s it. Coach K said, “we don’t need you to score”. So, that should tell you a lot. He’s not elite on the offensive end all he wants to do is play great defense and pass the ball, yet he still wants the title as “the guy”.

Very similar to D McNAbb who played very “small” when the Eagles played their biggest games… They are both phenomenal athletes, good guys, great role models but there is something just lacking in both of them, that fire in their belly, that competiticve spirit that drives you to excell and compete at the highest level… Both these guys have always been a little too ‘cool’ and seemed satisfied of being good, but never aspiring to be great which in Philly is what the fans want to at least see the effort to be a real differnce maker which is just not in the personality or make-up of either Iggy or McNabb..
Some athletes just have it, and Iggy doesn’t …

Here’s the thing, Iggy is who he is. Just simply saying what he should and shouldn’t do it just dumb. The point is this fan base want him to be a player he isn’t. He’s not going to take over a game. He’s not going to knock down wide open jump shots. He never has and never will. So to just say that’s what he needs to do is stupid. Everyone’s issue should be with sixer’s management that gave him that dumb contract. By doing that, they indirectly put expectations that he was never capable of meeting. This team has no presence under the basket. We can’t get an important rebound to save our life and we make Z and Joel Anthony look like All stars. Our guards, besides Holiday are too small and we still don’t have a pure SG who can just score from all over the floor. Maybe iggy does need to be traded but he isn’t the only problem with this team and if anyone wants a player to be something they really aren’t is being ridiculous.

And Paulman, you’re right, he does not have it. He never had and probably never will. But I don’t see how anyone could ever expect someone to be something they never was. And since you brought up McNabb it was the same thing with him. People wanted him to be Tom Brady in big games, wanted him to be serious and not goof around….bascially be someone that he is not. It does not work like that. You cannot simply place your own personal requirements on a player and say they should be doing this or that when they have never been capable of doing it. It’s one thing when you have Dwayne Wade who has a history of taking over games and being big in the biggest moment, not show up. Then you can say he’s not taking over games like he should. But when you have iggy who’s never been that player, it’s foolish to expect that from him. None of the players on this team do it. They pass the ball around too much when the game gets tight late and then give it to Iggy (who can’t shoot) with 4 seconds on the shot clock. No one on this team is built for the moment.

I disagree with this article. Andre is known to shut down the top offensive players defensively. His offensive game is mediocre at best but thats what he is. This team overachieved this year. Not one guy on this team averaged over 15 points a game. Coaches mission was to get this team relevant again and I say job well done.

On another note if this team is going to get better we need to trade iggy. I would like to keep him and use him for what he is but we cant. Teams want iggy for what he does and can use him properly.

Im also interested in seeing how Turner will develop over the offseason. Work on his shooting and perhaps place him at the 2 with Jrue.

Scorp, good points. But I will say this. Iggy wants to be that guy, he wants the ball in his hands at the end of the game yet is afraid if of actually putting the ball in the basket. He plays great against lesser opponents but poor against stars in the league

Vricch, I agree I’m Interested in seeing how he turner progresses. He gotta get that crooked shot together, he looks like he’s shooting the ball out of a cannon…

Michael redd is injury prone I want no parts of him. Kaman can play and is pretty consistent, they may take a look at him

Paulman and I finally agree, you too Scorpio. The issue is that this is all Andre was ever going to be, and Stefanski gave him “go to guy” money. I knew it was dumb when they did it. Iggy is like Horace Grant was to the Bulls Jordan era, a solid player who was the 3rd to 4th most important player. Iggy’s contract is what causes him all the criticism and unfulfilled expectations. Jason Werth is about to experience the same thing with the Nationals.

Good points rastadoc, but at least jason werth is a winner and has come up big in tough spots… but its true dre is who we thought but a guy with his size and ability should be doing much more… all these yrs and he hasn’t impyoved his jumper?

Also, what about the kobe like show he put on by shooting hundreds of shots at the wells fargo arena? what did that accomplish? Nothing. Iggy is obsessed with kobe. Yet hasn’t copied the same work ethic. Maybe he lifts weights too much. That can effect your jumper. But he has no drive, he’s not driven to be the best…
