Two of the best pitchers in all of baseball will face each other tonight in Florida, with Roy Halladay taking on Marlins’ ace Josh Johnson. Almost one year ago, the two pitchers faced each other in Florida in one of the more memorable games in the history of the Phillies.
That memorable game turned out to be Halladay’s perfect game. While everyone raved about the ace’s flawless effort in that game, many people forget that Johnson also pitched in that game, and only allowed a single (unearned) run. While the Marlins’ young right-hander doesn’t quite have the pedigree that the 2010 Cy Young Award winner has, he has incredible talent, with plenty room to grow.
Johnson had the lowest ERA in the National League in 2010, and is off to a good start this season. He has a 3-1 record with a 1.68 ERA. The 27 year old right hander has only surrendered nine runs all season.
Halladay is off to an excellent start in 2011 as well. The former Toronto Blue Jay has a 5-1 record, an ERA of 2.19, and 57 strikeouts. He has only walked seven batters all season.
There may be a time when Johnson takes over the best pitcher in the N.L. East, but for now Halladay is still the better of the two. The two aces will go head to head tonight in a matchup that will be watched with great interest, as the Phillies and Marlins battle for first place in the division.
Should be a good one…
Runs need be scored early for once both Pithcers settle in, they don’t give in an inch.. Marlins Bullpen has been pretty good so far.. Halladay will go all 14 Innings as Marlins win with a walk-off Homer by former Phillie PH Greg Dobbs 3-2 after the Phils took a 2-1 lead in the top of the 14th after PH Martinez hit a inside the park homerun… What a game
