Phillies righthanded ace Roy Oswalt was activated yesterday and will get the ball to start tonight in St. Louis against the Cardinals. A sore back sidelined the fireballer, plus he went home about four weeks ago to check on his hometown in Mississippi, which was being disrupted by tornadoes.
Unfortunately Oswalt return meant young hurler Vance Worley was sent back to the Triple AAA, Iron Pigs in Allentown.
Oswalt came back and pitched just three innings in a start on April 26th against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He had discomfort in his back, which turned out to be inflammation.
The former Houston Astro had one rehab start last Thursday with the Clearwater Threshers.
He’ll get the ball tonight versus the Cardinals and try to halt this three-game slide by the Phils. Oswalt is sporting a 3.33 earned run average with a 3-1 record. Phillies manager Charlie Manuel has already let it be known that Oswalt will be taken out of the game after 60 pitches.
