The Flyers have come to terms with forward Tom Sestito for the 2011-12 season. The terms of the deal are unknown, but they are likely low enough that Sestito has a legitimate shot of making the roster on a salary-choked team.
Sestito, drafted in the 3rd round of the 2006 NHL draft by the Columbus Blue Jackets, was traded at the deadline this past season for the Flyers’ most recent 3rd round draft pick, Michael Chaput, and veteran AHL forward Greg Moore. Sestito earned 13 goals and 35 points over the course of the AHL season with both the Springfield Falcons and the Adirondack Phantoms, but his most telling stat is PIM.
Sestito ranked 6th in the AHL with 237 penalty minutes. Teammate Zac Rinaldo ranked 2nd with 331 penalty minutes by comparison. Unlike Rinaldo, though, Sestito has a much more stable head on his 6′-4″ frame.
With the organization against the ropes trying to sign goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov, it is unlikely that they re-sign agitator Dan Carcillo, who is a restricted free agent. They may even be willing to move or waive Jody Shelley to get under the cap. Sestito would be able to replace them at a discounted rate, possibly freeing up $1.2 million in cap space for the same role.

Sounds like the “Gold Standard” has moved down Pattison Ave to the Flyers Offices.. Good Grief…
Bye bye Carcillo & Shelley. Thank god! This guy won’t take stupid penalties & can actually win a freaken fight. Unlike the punching bag Shelley & brain damaged Carcillo. Now all they have to do is get rid of Fartsmell & Verstink & they’ll be good to go. Sign Bryzgalov, Cole & Upshall.
I’ll drive Carcillo, Andy Reid, JC Romero, Danys Baez, and Igoudala anywhere they want as long as they never return to the Delaware valley!
Hell yeah. Drop those two dudes and let’s trade Hartnell to Columbus and we’re in business.
PETE I’ll give you gas money, if you include Iggy, Ibanez & Blanton too. LMFBO! 😀
Someone please throw Jon Hart on that Bus to nowhere too…
