Eagles Sign Nine Rookie Free Agents

The Philadelphia Eagles front office has been very business. They have signed nine rookie free agent to contracts. These youngsters will be hard-pressed to make the football team because of their inability to become familiar with the Eagles offensive and defensive systems in OTA’s and mini-camps.

They will have to devour the offensive and defensive playbooks in a very short period of time. The signing of 6’2″ Perry Baker, 6’6″ DeAndre Brown and 6’2″ Terrance Turner shows you can see the Eagles are looking for size amongst their wide receivers. The signing of Michigan tight end Martell Webb also shows you they’re looking for a big physical tight end who can block. Here are the players and information about their college careers.

WR Perry Baker (6-2, 175) Fairmount State – Baker finished his career at Division II Fairmount State (West Virginia) with 1,552 receiving yards and 19 touchdowns. He led the team as a senior in 2010 with 28 receptions, 501 yards and nine scores. A native of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Baker has NFL bloodlines that include his older brother, Dallas, who played three seasons with the Steelers, and his uncle, former Pro Bowl wide receiver Wes Chandler, who played 11 seasons in the NFL and was named to four Pro Bowls.

A native of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, Brown attended Ocean Springs HS where he was a Parade All-America selection.

RB Graig Cooper (5-10, 205) Miami (FL) – Cooper wrapped up his collegiate career at Miami (FL) ranked third in school history in all-purpose yardage (3,864), and fifth in rushing yards (2,387), leading the team in rushing in three consecutive years from 2007-09. He played in 46 games (21 starts) in his career, notching 17 total touchdowns (13 rushing, 3 receiving, 1 punt return). The Memphis, TN, native attended Melrose HS before transferring to Milford Prep as a senior, where he earned first-team all-state accolades.

He was a consensus first-team All-America selection after finishing the year with a 45.1-yard average on 50 punts, while also serving as the team’s kicker for part of the season. For his career, Henry punted 165 times for 7,090 yards (43.0 avg.), with a long of 75. A native of Dallas, GA, Henry attended East Paulding High School in Dallas.

He also holds two Big 12 and A&M records for passes without an interception in one season (225 in 2009) and an overall streak without an interception (242 from 2008-09). I like some of the guys
QB J Johnson is very athletic and could be a real find and probably a Practice squad but could be developed into a real QB in a couple years time..(reminds me a lot of a young, raw Tampa Bay’s Josh Freeman)

LB B Peguese will have a real shot, is very athletic, thick and a tackling machine and should be a demon on Special Teams..Watch for him to shine in Camp on the contact drills

WR Deandre Brown at 6-6 233 lbs is a physical specimen that has yest to master the art of using his size and strength to ward off smaller cover CB’s but he a raw, talented kid wuith excellent hands… (a real Practice squad candidate with an eye toward 2012) )

DT C Thornton at 6-2 310lbs is a real load who when motivated takes a lot os space and has a quick burst.. Many Draft Observors had him in the Top 10 at DT lists but needs to improve his conditioning and stamina and become consistent… could be a surprise and a Practice Sqaud candidate since Jeff Owens from last season had a severe knee injury the final week of last season and probably won’t be active this year at atll

RB G Cooper was a good College back at Miami and was able to catch the ball and block pretty well at the College level, not sure if he has the speed for the NFL level but will battle it out and get some looks..

I watch and follow a lot of College Football and especially the Schools/Players from the South since they are on TV a lot down here where I live and generally
have better competition in the Southeast/ACC/Big 12 Conferences then the Big East or Northern Schools..

don’t underestimate the LB from hampton and the P/K from Florida. also the TE is a bigtime blocker. If any of those receivers can return, they will have a decent shot. most of these dudes are practice squad bound for sure.

I wonder if we can get another assistant mascot in the mold of a Reno Mahe or a Chad Hall?

These are invaluable PR signings and Andy really likes how towering he looks next to them….

Did we get our annual ACL guy yet?

We must have a few of them…

Joe (Nickles) Banner loves the value that comes with those cheap camp bodies…See, Joe’s office is right next to rehab pool…and he’s just enamored with those guys with slight limps.

“UM HUM… TIME’S YOUR’S”

By the way guys…Remember that Aggressive talk we were getting during the Lock out? Where is it?

They really painted a picture that a lame duck QB getting traded was a big deal. I bet that was the aggressiveness they were speaking about.

When teams covered their need in the draft for QB’s that really took the leverage away from the Eagles concerning Kolb..and the Lockout gave teams more time to Evaluate him and on top of that…Kolb is looking to cash in again with a new contract….Guys…this is not looking good. Arizona got Andy and pencil pushing Banner by the Balls.
