Eagles Will Now Have To Ask For Less For Kevin Kolb

It was supposed to happen yesterday. Eagles backup quarterback Kevin Kolb was supposed to be traded, but he remains a Philadelphia Eagle and there’s a chance that he could be the team’s back up quarterback in the upcoming season.

The Eagles were talking to both the Arizona Cardinals and the Seattle Seahawks yesterday, but that’s no longer the case. Seattle acquired former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Tavaris Jackson yesterday. That means the Seahawks are out of the Kolb hunt, so the Birds will only have the Cardinals to negotiate with.

In another move the Denver Broncos have decided to put last year’s starting quarterback Kyle Orton on the trading block, so the Eagles might have to lower what they’re asking for in the Kolb trade. Cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie was thought to be the Birds target, but reports have them also asking for a top draft pick.

What had been a definite is now a maybe. Kolb and the Birds can’t be comfortable right now with time running out and fewer teams interested in their backup quarterback. If the Eagles are going to get anything done with moving Kolb, they had better make it happen in the next couple of days.

They’re being aggressive as can be G, If its up to our front office we’re going to get a 1st and second round pick along with a probowl corner for Kolb. Our front office will come to the rescue like they do every year; we’re the most Aggressive team in the league. Everybody cool-out and put on your party hats and get behind “ol Joe B”; he’s running this circus clown show better than any team in the league. “HONK HONK”!!!!!!!

GET HIM OUTTA HERE!! man.. What happened to the aggressive plan we had? teams are making moves and it seems their first priority was to sign some scrub rookie free agents. How disappointed would you be if we didnt sign any of the top free agents available? my worry meter on a scale from 1-10 is a 6 right now.

Aggressive is just a word for the Eagles…We hear them every year how they claim…”we like to be aggressive every year”.

Guys I told you!!!!!

Once free agency is over the spin machine will come out and say how aggressive they were but the Free Agents were unreasonable in their asking price.

sounds familiar?

Then we’ll be on here repeating that garbage while we prepare for another disappointing season .. Look for them to use Eskins and Caplan to leak out some garbage guy and sell him as if he’s the sleeper of the whole Free Agent Crop…He’ll be cheap and just another body…This is what they do.

Vricchini and wild_bk,

I feel both of ya…On the one hand because asmo or joseph isn’t signed yet I’m kinda chillin out. But, if another team signs those big FA corners – drying up the market, then “HOUSTON WE HAVE A PROBLEM”; we’ll have to wait and see though. Either our FO is going to do a big Samuels or T.O. like signing, or this will be another so called aggressive down year per our front office.

Sources of mine down in Atlantic City (couple of ex-FLyers players Richards & Carter) tweeted me and said they saw GM Roseman, PRes Banner and Coach AR drinking, gambling and partying with some of the Show Girls last evening to the early morning hours… Jeff carter stated that Free-agents and roster updgrades appears to have been the furthest thing from their minds…

He is not that good, orton is more of a prospect then kolb is. There gonna keep waiting and were gonna be shafted with no right corner again and people are gonna blow holes on that side of the defense again. I do think its important to have a guy behind vick but bring in a guy like vince young. I know ill get killed for that, but we have a stong organization and one of the best qb coaches.Cant deny vinces win percentage. The guy isnt the best qb but he wins and maybe he can learn something from vick. Vick goes down at least Vy can win you couple of games. Unless theres a better option im all for it.

Hoping on a deal for CB Richard Marshall or Carlos Rogers
and then either S Tulloch or Ben Leber at OLB..
If they address these and get DE R Edwards, I will be satisfied and they will have improved this Defense..
Kolb looks like he will remain an Eagle which is what I have thought all along..No one is going to offer a 1st Round or a Starter and a 2nd Rounder for a QB with 7 Starts under his belt.. QB’s Orton,V Young,M Bulger all have substantial games started on their resume’s and you kind of know what your going to get with Kolb is still too much of a question ???

So many deals happening that have direct effects for the eagles. Starting with these qb moves. Kolb is losing places he could have called his home. This isnt good but there is still a chance he could go to the bengals, dolphins, 49ers (even though they signed alex smith again) or cards… Wr front, that deal santonio holmes has set the market for wrs, desean will most likely command a deal like he has… 5 years 50 mill 20 mill guaranteed, so this has a direct bearing on his negotiations…. Also Barry Cofield going to the redskins effect the eagles chances of getting haynesworth because the skins will not trade him within the same division, they wanna trade him outside of the division… So the eagles need to wait to see if and i feel when haynesworth will be released so they can sign him…

I heard the Cardinals even turned down a Kolb for MAtt Ware straight up deal..How fast the mighty and ovverhyped machine of the Eagles Front office have fallen and some of you actually thought the Cardinals Drafed Patrick Petersen at #5 simply to trade to the Eagles for Kolb in a back room deal.. Insanity… Peterson is probably the most athletic player to be drafted in years and the Caridnals took him for he was the best player on the board at #5 which is what you should do…
Now the Cardinals will have All-Pro Safety Adrian Wilson, CB’s P Peterson and DCR which gives them a pretty damn good Secondary …

You people do realize you can’t sign FAs till Friday right? You only have the ability to sign undrafts and resign your own players ? Right – you guys realize this? As for aggressive – as the team released every FA and RFA – and they need to replace those bodies on the roster – translates into a semi-significant roster turnover – – right.

So – all your gnashing teeth grinding are over if/when we trade the back-up QB – – really?

Why trade Kolb if you don’t need to? If you trade him you have to find a solid #2 – don’t trade him no big deal – he is back-up for another year – as you couldn’t trade him before yesturday……………………….

No way JH,
Your not paying attention enough
49ers drafteed their QB of the Future in C Kaperenick, and signed A Smith as a short-term player at QB
Bengals drafted their QB of the Future in A Dalton and will probably play Jason Palmer or sign a J Delhomme, MAtt Moore type to bridge the gap before Dalton is ready..

There are now only 2 teams needed a QB and thats Cardinals and DOlphins and there are K Orton, V Young, M Bulger all still availalbe and more accomplished than Kolb…
and please get off the Haynesworth wagon for he will not be released or traded to the Eagles.. he either remains with the Redskins (doubtful) or gets traded to the Broncos (involving QB K Orton) or to another AFC team that employs a 4-3 Scheme

Again on Kolb – so what if he comes back as the back up QB? You colud make a very valid argument based on Vick’s style of play the smart move would be to keep Kolb and give Kafka another year in the system and a year to have a QB go onto the practice squad? How is the trading of Kevin Kolb become the focal point of the ‘aggresiveness’ of the Eagles off-season plan?

Also – can we agree on a definition of agressive? Deciding to go into the new year with a new kicker and punter – rookies maybe – aggressive or crazy? Releasing a grunch of FAs – going young in the LB corp?

What defines aggressive – as the eagles HAVE to spend a certain amount (as all teams do so hopefully this ends the ‘funny’ cheap/nickels comments – though I seriously doubt it with the level of knowledge this crowd has) is it to buy one big FA (which would make the year we got Asante an aggressive year)
or two A minus FAs –

What is aggressive?

Eagles sat on their ass and waiting too long or are not ponying up the $$$..
My Free-Agent plan would make the Eagles better with more talented players who fit their schemes and are good locker room guys, but the Eagles surely don’t listen to me and tell us they know waht they are doing.. I simply research the players that were avaialable and came up with my lists on how and with whom they could make upgrades, but it’s up to them to act..

To Birdo

BDT B Coefiled who signed a 6 year deal with the Redskins and DE C Johnsons who re-signed with teh Panthers

Songs – saw on another post where you wrote the Eagles are incompetent – then I figured it out – you use words that you have no clue what they mean –

WorldCom, Circuit City, BORDERS, ENRON, the Detriot lions, the Los Angelos Dodgers – those are examples of organizations that are incompetent – there is a huge gap (almost as wide as the difference in intelligence and football IQ between you and I) between incompetent and hasn’t won a SB yet. Huge.

Vince Young is fairly young and a former pro bowler with a strong arm…. The Cards need to get on the phone and get a prove commodity. Kolb is garbage..

the Eagles think they are in the drivers seat. pathetic

They had 6 months to prepare for every scenario and thought Kolb would be the top QB sought after….nope

Tavaris Jackson – signed
Donovan Mcnabb – Going to the Vikings to play with all those weapons and a running game to boot…He deserves this.

Cards are looking into Bulger and Orton knowing they could use the pick the Eagles are trying to get from them next year, and get a better option than Kolb in the future.

If this falls through the incompetence should be identified and “sacked”.

NFC East Teams on the Rise

Gaints — Great Draft, updgrading their O/Line
Redskins — Good Draft, being aggressive so far in Free-agency after re-signing WR S Moss, and adding DT B Corefile, QB K Clemens, WR D Stallworth and got rid McNAbb and will soon trade HAynesorth

NFC Teams stuck in neutral and falling behind

COwboys – Questionable seletions in the 2nd/3rd/4th Rounds, releasing veteran players and have not been agressive in Free-agency so far

Eagles – Questionable draft selections with their 2nsd/3rd/4th Round picks too..Decided not to re-sign any of their own free-agents (Mickell,Bradley,Akers,Rocca, etc, etc) and unable to get any vlue for QB Kolb who has been on the trading blocks and built up for what 6 months now… and only big news signing so far is undrafted RB noel Devine who performed miserbly at Senior week and at the NFL Combine versus pro competition….. you are missing the point..

Kevin Kolb is valuable piece that could bring a pro-bowl corner or some picks or both..

Kevin Kolb’s greatest contribution to this team would be whatever he can bring us in a trade.

Kevin Kolb is not the only backup in the league.. We could always sign another. it wont be a difficult search. plus we’ll have a player that actually wants to back Vick up instead of Kolb who wants to start

the pieces Kolb could bring back are more valuable than a backup regardless of how prone Vick is to injury.

if kolb stays as a back up? you might get to use him this year or you might not…

then he walks at the end of the season and we forfeit the chance to trade him in for other pieces we actually need to play on each down..

this is a no brainer… kolb is worth much more to us in a trade than he is as a backup and its really that simple

G:

Yeah, no way a starting QB gets hurt in this pre-season for a contender. No way a QB goes down early for a playoff-hugry team. THE SKY IS FALLING! Kolb is a great back-up and the Birds will keep their options open. This is a great scenario for this team. Like I have said numerous times: Vick WILL get hurt. I don’t want him to get hurt, nobody does. But it will happen. It has always happened. What’s the problem with not trading him for his worth? If the Eagles cannot get what they think he is worth, keep him. END OF STORY!!! They drafted well when they drafted him.
The Eagles will just have to come up with another stud for the RCB position. Different emergency.

Newsflash moron, Trent Dilfer is a Superbowl winning QB — does that make him a great QB? Of course not.

You are right about one thing, stats don’t lie — go take a look at Vince Youngs PERSONAL stats as in yardage, completions, touchdowns, interceptions — then come talk to me you stupid sorry excuse for a fan.

Keeping Kolb, although I would like to get something for him, is NOT…I repeat, NOT a bad thing. The way Vick plays, we need a competent backup. If he gets traded, I’m down too. It’s a win/win.

Per SBNation, Vick has missed 18% of his starts due to injury over his career. Brady 9%, Payton Manning 0%. Based on this, he’ll miss 2.88 games in 16 games. 3.42 games if you include 3 post season games. In a season that a team seriously thinks they’re SB contender and sees the running game as an afterthought, I don’t think you can over value the backup QB.

like I said

the best course of action for the philadelphia eagles is to trade the back up for a pro-bowl corner and a pick (no brainer)

then the Eagles ANOTHER qb to back up Vick

this way, we cash in kolb (we actually rape arizona in the process because everyone knows he isnt worth all that) and then we get a qb to back up vick

this way we have covered all our bases and we have cashed in our chips to improve our team also

you just wanna hang onto Kolb like he is the only back up in the world(thats plain old dumb). Im telling you he isnt the only backup in world and as a matter of fact backups come pretty cheap and we should be to cop one really easy

Come on guys, stop overreacting about them not signing anyone. They can only negotiate so until a bunch of guys get signed then I’ll complain. But I do want Kolb out here asap. I said yesterday that his value goes down the longer the Eagles keep him because if they are asking too much, as other serviceable QBs get cut them there’s no need to overpay for Kolb. Just think about it, it’s looking like Minny only has to give up two 6th round draft picks for McNabb. If a team can get a proven veteran for so cheap and groom the QB of the future, there’s little incentive to give up a 1st or 2nd for Kolb unless you think he’s the QB of the future and who is really sure of that? So he needs to go asap. But otherwise, I’ll save my complaining for the weekend.

I think I hit the nail on the head way back in Febuary when a little off-season Signing of Career Back-up QB Seneca Wallace was made by the Cleveland Browns kind of told me the tale of what Kolb’s value would be around the League.. Now remember that the Browns hired a new HC in Shurmur who coached Kolb for his first 2 Seasons and have GM Heckert (who drafted Kolb) resigned to back-up Starter Colt McCoy.. If the people and coached who probably know Kolb the best, but were not impressed enough to even talk to the Eagles early in off-season and before the lock-out about a potential trade and if the Browns regime feel so strong enough about Seneca Wallace to sign him to a long-term deal to compete and be McCoy’s back-up, then this told me that Kolb isn’t held in very high esteem be the Coaches that know him the best and Drafted him…
