Eagles Sign Nine Of Their Draft Picks

The Philadelphia Eagles signed nine of their 11 draft picks yesterday. Each one of the players agreed to a four-year contract, so only first round draft pick Danny Watkins and 7th round draft pick Greg Lloyd remain unsigned. The other details of their deals are unknown at the moment.

The players who agreed to contracts today are listed below:

Safety Jaiquawn Jarrett (6-0, 196) was a second round pick (54th overall). A local product out of Temple University, Jarrett played in 49 games (43 starts), finishing his career ranked 11th in school history with 299 tackles and eighth with nine interceptions. He was a first-team All-America selection by Pro Football Weekly in 2010 and a unanimous first-team All-MAC performer after starting 12 games and leading the team with 74 tackles and two interceptions.

Cornerback Curtis Marsh (6-0, 197) was a third round draft choice (90th overall). He played two seasons at cornerback for the Utah State Aggies after converting from running back following his sophomore campaign. He earned All-WAC second-team honors following his senior season after starting 12 games and notching two interceptions.

Linebacker Casey Matthews (6-1, 177) was a fourth round draft choice (116th overall). A four-year letterman at Oregon, Matthews was a two-time All-Pac 10 selection after starting in 33 of 50 games and recording 245 tackles, 30.5 tackles for a loss, nine sacks, four interceptions and one forced fumble. He finished as a finalist for the Ronnie Lott Impact Award in 2010 after amassing 79 tackles and three sacks during his senior season.

Kicker/punter Alex Henery (6-1, 177) was a fourth round draft choice (120th overall). The most accurate kicker in NCAA history, Henery finished his career at the University of Nebraska with 397 points on 68 of 76 field goals (89.5%). He also racked up 6,201 yards on 147 punts (41.3 average), downing 57 inside the 20 with only 12 touchbacks.

Running back Dion Lewis (5-8, 195) was a fifth round draft choice (149th overall). The 20-year old rushed for 2,860 yards in just two seasons at Pittsburgh, eclipsing a school record once held by new Eagles teammate LeSean McCoy for the most rushing yards by a player after his sophomore season. He finished his two-year career ranked fourth on the school’s all-time rushing list.

Guard Julian Vandervelde (6-2, 300) was a fifth round draft choice (161st overall). The 23-year old was a four-year letterman at Iowa, starting in 37 games at both left and right guard.

Center/guard Jason Kelce (6-3, 282) was a sixth round draft choice (191st overall). The 23-year old started his final 38 games at Cincinnati, earning second-team All-Big East honors following his junior and senior seasons in 2009 and 2010.

Linebacker Brian Rolle (5-10, 227) was a sixth round draft choice (193rd overall). The 22-year old was a four-year letterman at Ohio State, amassing 210 tackles, four interceptions and 3.5 sacks.

Fullback Stanley Havili (6-0, 230) was a seventh round draft choice (240th overall). The 23-year old played in 52 career games at USC, totaling 1,799 scrimmage yards (1,290 receiving, 509 rushing) and 15 total touchdowns in his collegiate career.

What linebacker weighs 177 pounds?

Now with all these critical signings we are that much closer to a Super Bowl year?

Thats the 1st thing I said to myself Big E when I read this. He’s actually 232 lbs (still fairly small though in my opinion compared to these big NFL Lb’s). I don’t think G had his coffee yet this morning – Come on G lets get it together!

They blew it, this was the biggest most dominant fish at DT,they should of went after him, cmon a 5th round pick?? but maybe the skins had a high request for the eagles bc there in there division and like i said before didnt want to trade within it so they found a smart trade partner in the pats who happen to be out of there division all together, there an afc team… Im not happy about it but maybe it will wake teams up esp the eagles letting them know that they have to be shrewd…

I am so frustrated and angry I could spit nails right now!!!! The Eagles slow and deliberate pace is not going to be effective in this situation. They need to stop sitting on their hands and act! There is never going to be a free agent market like this again and they are letting everyone pass them by. The Kolb situation does not preclude them from signing Edwards or Babin and they need to get cracking! So far the good aggressive plan is as many of us suspected. Another load of BS!! So far let’s review. Biggest trouble spots on team: defense and O line. So what have they done? They have decided to further downgrade the D by letting teo good players go in Bradley and Mikell. I don’t care about the future at this moment and what guys might be. Who on this roster is as good as or better then Stew and Q? Don’t say Chaney because you could have had both. So who aside from Chaney is as good as Stew? Don’t give me Jarrett. Not this year. They have not signed a top notch DE. And I bet they don’t. You are going to see an ND Kalu type signing here that will just make you shake your head. AGAIN!! They won’t sign a FA LB and they have a bunch of late round draft picks and some guys from the garbage pile on the current roster. So we upgrade RCB. And….That isnot nearly enough!! A RCB and a few tweaks is not going to make this a respectable Defense!! I’m sick!
What about the O line. Ok let’s start by letting your best off season move lose a week of camp while you dick around over a few hundred grand. Just sign the damn kid. Give him the money. He’s 26, he has already lost 3-4 years of paychecks and seems like a good guy that can play. And they did nothing about RT. Once again Mudd and Washburn are going to turn water into wine and Vick is going to take his game to the next level and we are just going to outscore everyone. They are so frigging unrealistic. And when is AR going to get fired when we go 8-8 or lose in the first round again???????? Who is going to take responsibility for this continued failure and flawed aproach to building a football team?? And how are those MFers figuring out how they can hide their money and beat the 99% rule?? In that ONE regard they are GD geniuses.

Now check that out..Haynesworth for a measly 5th round pick….The Patriots show they are the “Golden Standard” again….
Watch the spin now…They’ll say Skins didn’t want to trade him within the division..after we just traded Mcnabb within the division last year.

Where’s the Washburn phone call?

Where’s the aggressive megotiating by offering a 4th?

These damn Eagles are incompetent.

Don’t worry folks…The aggressive news is coming…We’ll soon trade for a Corner that can’t tackle and was suspect all last year when QB’s in a weak division completed 65% of their passes against him.

The Eagles give a new meaning to Aggressive

jbird, when you guess say edwards your not talking about braylon edwards right? Mr butter biscuit hands himself, i ll rather go with our current roster…. Jarrett is a safety not a linebacker….Bird relax its way too early in free agency to be hallucinating… again today thru this weekend are huge for the eagles, there the type of team that like to make a splash and suprise everyone all in one day, theyre not like the media whore jets who need all this attention and build up, look what there doing with this rumor about nnamdi? Taking it and making it a huge thing and all of the attention will be on them and there team… im actually happy how the eagles do there due diligence but today thru this weekend will tell alot… this “plan” they have has to go into motion now…

But keep in mind teams can make the signings official until tomorrow

The Kolb trade means absolutely nothing…If they are trying to see that bullshit as the aggressive splash then they can have it.

Even if Kolb’s corny ass stayed put and we let him go after the season…and a real splash happened like Haynesworth or Asmo or Joseph ..we all would have been ready to ball.. But these damn tight ass shekel hoarders are trying to sell this Kolb trade as the big move of the offseason.

God….I wish i was wrong…but I’m right again.

What aggressiveness?

atra1781
July 28, 2011 8:51 am

Hopefully they have a legit plan.

Sign a WR in case Jackson pulls a T.O.

Kolb trade will help if Cromartie can actually play.

As for FREE agents package some picks and bring in some starters.

I still like James Jones, Malcolm Floyd or even roll the dice on Roy Williams for a low pick.

They will sign average players because they the organization is a bunch of penny pinching a holes.

There was no way the Redskins and Shanahan were going to trade Haynesworth to the Eagles or anyone else in the NFC for that matter.. This was a no brainer that he went to the AFC/PAtriots who have the need and the history of taken on Veteren Players with a checkered past.. Whay Haynesworth have a All-Pro Season.. but there is no sense in getting upset with the Eagles for they never had a chance to obtain him, so let it go…

Malcom FLoyd is under the Radar and would be a great pick-up
R Williams will be released by the Cowboys this afternoon and will then become a Free-Agent so the Eagles would not have to give up any Picks or trade to obtain him.. There will be another 200-2500 Players that Released this afternoon at 4pm in which many of these players are still very good football players..

You have to think the way the eagles think… they are a team of order to a fault… they want to sign there draft picks, then kolb trade, then announce the new additions thru free agency, this is the way these guys have been for 12 plus yrs, nothing has changed… Why does everyone expect something different every year? They keep everything close to the vest and dont tell the public much…

I will say this that andy did appear to be alil different at training camp press conference, a little more joyful and playful which is a good thing, maybe he has something to be happy about that we dont know… Lets stay tuned…

I wouldn’t be suprised if the Patriots and Eagles conspired together to fleece the Skins.

The Skins have said they were not going to trade Haynesworth to the Eagles under any circumstances. What if Bill and Andy started talking and now the Eagles send Patriots maybe a third rounder next year for Haynesworth?

Never say Never. I can see it happening. Albert doesn’t fit the defensive scheme in New England either sooo……

Also, Patriots and Eagles are VERY comfortable with each other when it comes to trades — we’ll see.

Not many FA are signing this quick because thier agents are getting 10 calls from 10 different teams with 10 different offers all at the same time. The player than has to sift through all the deals and decide where he wants to go. Its not that the Eagles or any other team doesnt want to sign players they have to wait for the player to decide. NOTHING the teams can do but wait.
