Eagles defensive tackle Mike Patterson was just taken off the field in an ambulance after collapsing on the field and having convulsions. The Eagles had just finished a live goalline drill when Patterson collapsed on the field.
No one knows why he collapsed and starting having convulsions. It may have been the heat. It may have been a blow to the head. It’s unknown at this time why he went down.
Patterson weighs about 300 pounds, so that may have factored in his collapsed but again the cause of his difficulties are unknown.
I would encourage to say a prayer or two for the big guy.
10:49 Update: “A source with knowledge of the situation tells ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio that Patterson is sending text messages from the hospital saying he is fine.
Patterson’s doctors believe dehydration is what caused him to collapse on the field.”
There was another defensive tackle taken off the field this morning and it was backup defensive tackle Trevor Laws, who sustained a knee injury of some sort. He was taken off the field on the cart. We’ll find out later about the seriousness of his injury.
Rookie Danny Watkins is lining up with the starters at right guard.
As her Burkholder, Patterson had a seizure. Patterson is alert and seems to be ok at the hospital now. Glad he is ok.
Im worried about Laws, I am expecting big things from him this year.
Hope Patterson and Laws are ok..
I heard Patterson had lost a lot of weight recently so hopefully he was just de-hydrated
Laws from what I’ve seen on Eagles.Com appears to have put some weight on and especially in his lower body and hopefully it’s just a twist/hyperextended knee but I fear he may have done some damage for it doesn’t take much for these large bodies to sustain ACL Tears ..
update….Laws has a hip flexor
Happy to hear WildBk..
He should be back on the field in a few days.. Laws does need to drop some lbs though.. His butt is getting bigger than G Cobb’s…. ha
