DeSean Jackson To Show Up At Training Camp On Monday

Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson is expected to make his first appearance at Eagles training camp on Monday. According to a number of reports, the speedy receiver will arrive in the Philadelphia area today then make his appearance at Lehigh tomorrow.

It makes a lot of sense that the big-play wideout makes the journey to Philadelphia a day before he has to appear at practice. Jackson has been holding out of camp as a way of expressing his unhappiness with his current contract.

If Jackson were to fail to show up at camp by tomorrow, he would forfeit an accrued season toward becoming a free agent. Instead of being a free agent after the 2011 season, he would have to give the Eagles another year before being free to sign with another team.

I expect both sides to start talking as soon as Jackson gets to camp. Without Jackson in camp and with Jeremy Maclin sidelined with a mysterious injury, the Birds don’t have much speed outside to get deep. I think it will hurt their offensive production.

Is it possible the Eagles let him play for 600,000 this year then franchise him next year and work out a long term contrat if he produces and stays healthy? It would be like getti ng a free year out of him. Or do they do the right thing and pay him now. I cant believe the NFLPA agreed to this if you dont come in you lose a year. Unbelievable leverage for the owners.

Let me know if this guy breaks a tackle or runs over the middle with reckless abandon. I know he is good but he has limitations and takes off on plays in wich he is not the primary target.

Big E whats your point? He has more 50 yard tds in his first 3years than anyone in NFL history how about that? I didnt know the only way you can be good is if you break tackles.lol R Mos, Ochocinco etc. How many tackles did they break?

In a normal off-season, I think the Eagles would consider trading D-Jax, but not in this shortened-post lockout Summer camp time.
I could see a reworked deal for a short-term basis like a 2 year deal which would be loaded with Guarantee $$ up front as well as Bonus $$$ for certain targets reached, but I have a hard time seeing the Eagles giving him a whopping 5 Year $40-$50-$60 Million Deal like S Holmes/S Rice received in free-agency due to his small frame and his inability to be effective in the red-zone..

Paulman than what was the point in drafting him? He was 160 pounds when they took him in the 2nd round. Its just amazing your gonna trade one of the most explosive players in the NFL. I guess he will be out of the league next year. What are they gonna trade him for a 5 th round pick? He will be the same size for his next team or are they stupid and the Eagles are smarter than everyone else? Let me get this straight we are gonna trade a 24 year old playmaker for…………

Biggie, you greedy nitwit. Your problem with 10 is that he has limitations? Pick any top wr in the league who you deem better, and they can’t do some of the things desean can. So guess what THEY HAVE LIMITATIONS TOO!

Paulman, and they would trade him, um why? They have had a grand total of 0 opportunities to resign him since 2009 so there’s 0 evidence that they are reluctant to resign him. He scores touchdowns and changes games. A lot. That is all that matters. Period.

Paulman….What was DJax size when he broke open the game for the Eagles against the Redskins last year?

What was his size when the Eagles came back against the Giants and Djax won the game with a return that sealed the game?

Would you say “BIG”?

What was Roy Williams size with the Cowboys after trading away a few 1st rounders for him?

The Cowboys cut him.

Roy Williams have all the variables and physical strengths yet come up small.

So are you saying a player should not be paid his worth because he might get injured?

Would you like me to run off the long list of recievers who were injured last year?

T.O. was injured with us and got a big contract with Dallas.

T.O. just had surgery…He’s a physical specimen and his season could not even compare to DJAX’s even after missing a few games with a concussion.

Football players get hurt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That’s reality.

He should be paid based on his performance and big play ability. He opens up the field for the rest of our offensive weapons. Safeties and Corners must respect his speed, therefore he’s a threat to hit the home run at anytime.

How much is that worth?

Songs I am thinking that worth alot.

Lets hope that DJax “Daydreaming” number is close to the Eagles “We luv ya but” number so we can get a nice deal done that everybody can be happy with.

We don’t need Jax to be an every role receiver, we have other players for other roles, the otherside of the coin is we don’t need Jax asking for every role receiver money…..big play defense is scared money yes he deserves that. Both sides need to smell the coffee, and keep it real… BOTH SIDES.

I don’t give a damn how much money he gets what he’s worth, the fact is the eagles are a different, far more explosive team when he’s on the field, the current wideouts won’t cut it, and somethings wrong with maclin, were not getting the full scoop there, somethings up

G, where are your daily training camp reports? They make your site completely unique from everything else available on the internet. Especially since you give your honest opinions and not the standard glowing review of every players like most media. Football isn’t back without these reports.

I think D-JAx is a great playmaker and one of the most exciting players in the entire NFL.. But he does 2 things well.. Run the deep routes and return punts which he has done less and less (though he that dramatic return to beat the GIants) but as he gets older and banged aroundm, he will most likley not be returning punts for fear of Injury and if a Defense has the talent at the CB Position to take away his deep routes, than he doesn’t do a whole lot.. He has had some games where he is unstoppable and some games where his disappears.. I just question is can a player of his size play another 3-4-5 Seasons and put up the kind of #’s he has his 1st 3 Seasons.. Time will tell and of course having a QB like VIck who can wing it 60 yards on a rope is critical to D-Jax’s effective to be successful on the deep routes..

So get rid of a 24 year old playmaker today because you think he wont be any good when he is 28? Makes perfect sense.

I think we should change Paulmans name to Wheeler, because just like wheeler he’s obviously the smartest guy in the room. There so many things wrong with the eagles offense, that had more to do with jackson’s being ineffective then good corners. He only does two things well, thats funny. I bet you every team would listen if the eagles called and said he was available for trade. How about the fact that the safties have to stay 15 yards back or he’ll run right by them, how many teams have that luxury? What about when your in the red zone putting him in motion and making it harder for def. to get there hands on him? What about actually having hot routes instead of just trying to change the protection at the line? Kinda hard to block 7 guys with 6. What about the fact that as well as your qb played it was basically his first year in the offense after not playing for 4 years? I don’t know how much djax should make but, for what there paying him the should just take him out back and kick him in the balls. If Vick, the coaches and offensive lineman make the improvements they need to the eagles offense will be scary. Pay the dude and keep the train rolling. Not saying the eagles are going to win the sb but with a healthy happy team they will be hard to play against. You fall behind this offense and your in for a long day. It does’nt hurt to have a guy who can go 80 yards in the blink of an eye. Those guys running ten yards behind jackson are in the nfl.

I would not actively look to trade him but at the same time, He cannot hold the team hostage if he and his agent have some ridiculous demands on a Contract Extension.. This team is built to win now and the next few seasons and it would be great if D-JAx remains to be a big part of it, but look at all these players who came to PHilly for less than market $$$ because they sense something real special going on with the EAgles led by QB Vick.. If D-Jax demands are realistic, then hell yess, sign him up, but if he and Agent ROsenass think they are going to put a gun to the EAgles head and derail this train off of it’s SUper Bowl Destiny, then yes, I would seriously consider moving him.. Bottom line, Either D-Jax wants to be part of this team or he wants to think of himself first , it’s his choice but If I am the Eagles and make him an good extension offer and he rejects it wanting crazy $$$, then D-Jax has made his choice and will have to suffer the consequences which would be the Eagles looking to move him or he can sit out a year and lose a year of eligibility which would be counter-productive on his part..

As you pointed out Gary, without DeSean the offense won’t go far, and without DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin the offense aint goin NOWHERE. Maclin probably has mono and he may be out for a month or more into the regular season. It was critically important for the brass to see the offense look inept to start to understand again why DeSean Jackson is a household name and how all the spending they’ve been doing will be for naught without a motivated Jackson in the offenses line up. Also it’s important for them to get Vincent Jackson and in one regard he will be to the Eagles offense what Hunter Pence is to the Phillies offense. A lot of people outside of Philly have been critical of the Hunter Pence deal after the Phillies acquired so many ace pitchers, but once a sports team starts on the path of spending to go all out they need fill every hole and not half-a$$ do it.

Pay that man!! I mean seriously, I understand the business side of football, but this dude way out performed his contract…I mean what would you think if you were killin it at work and all the suits knew you deserved a raise, but they just had to follow their policy..you’d be heated too! When he gets there, they will take care of him, and he will be fine…Even thopst big deals have been for 5 years, I think he will get 4 and 40..but we will shall see..go birds!

I love it when people say D-Jax has outperformed his contract..
D-JAx was drafted in the Mid-2nd Round and received a Rookie Contract in line with where he was chosen.. Doesn’t every player want to play well and excell..that’s what they are paid to do.. Do any players give back $$$ to the teams if they underperform or get injured..(Andrew Brothers,Bunkley,Freddi Mitchell, T Laws, W Justice, J Hanson, etc, etc, etc,)

Paulman..that idea of players outperforming their contracts was created when teams started asking players to take pay cuts based on their low performance.

If you are going to ask players to take cuts when they under perform, it’s fair to pay a player when they over perform.

Got it?

Who on the EAgles has been asked for a pay reduction recently in the last recent years (Outside of Stacy Andrews who should have never been signed in the 1st place) If players are undeperforming that bad, they are usually flat out released and replaced by another player.. If D-Jax had kept his nose clean while in College he would have been a Top 15-20 Pick to begin with and would have had a substantially better Rookie Contract than he received as a mid 2nd Rounder.. Is this the Eagles fault too…

I want the Eagles to re-sign and keep D-Jax, but he and his agent will not hold this team hostage or hold a gun to their heads looking for ridiculous $$$, for if he is, he will only cause friction and dissension in the lockerroom .. Remember most of these stud Free-agent Signings all came to Philly and left $$ on the table from other teams who were offering more to contend for a Championshiop.. If D-JAx doesn’t want on this Train, than the hell with him ..

Paul, yes deseans attitude wasnt the best in college and still isnt but thats not to say hes not worth a big contract, he means alot to this team… hes the one that came to philly and really made our wr core relevant again since the TO days… He deserves big money and a long term deal, idc how many concussions he got, when hes on that field hes electric, hes productive, and is unstoppable… PAY HIM

He will have his Physical/Paperwork to handle in the morning and then be availalbe for afternoon practice, He will then probably “tweak an ankle” bty mid-week and only practice without pads for walk-thrus, exercises and film study for he and his agent will want him to avoid any contact sessions at all costs until he has a new deal… The Drama continues..

DE Shaun Ellis from the Jets and DE/OL Andre Carter from the Redskins to help with their Pass-Rush which has been a problem for them the last couple of Seasons, not sure if either of the 2 players have much in the tank, but they will be used as roational players and probably play well for Belichek and the Patriots..

2000 – it aint that simple. If he just holds out until he gets a contract, well then, the man is just not showing up for work and should be fired. They’re not going to renegotiate if he isn’t at work. You think your boss would entertain salary conversations on the phone with you while you’re refusing to show up fo work? Doubtful.

AND he’s got to protect his free agency eligibility which he loses if he’s not in camp tomorrow.

So while I can understand your opinion, it would be really really stupid for Desean to follow your advice.

And it doesn’t matter anyway because he’s in camp now.

Other receivers can take a lickin and keep on ticking. One good shot and he is history. He is a second tier receiver and should play out his contract. Westbrook could return punts but he didn’t do it all the time and either will the knat. I just don’t like guys with alligator arms. Macklin is a better receiver.
