Mornhinweg Talks About The Questions & Problems On Their Offensive Line

Yesterday, Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg addressed some of the problems and questions on the teams offensive line. Rookie center Jason Kelce will start this week and if he wins the starting center job, he’ll be playing next to another rookie, guard Danny Watkins.

When asked about any concerns he might have about starting two rookies side by side on the offensive line, Mornhinweg didn’t seem to be bothered by it.

“We’ve certainly discussed that; if they’re the right type of players then there’s absolutely no problem at all”, Marty said.

I don’t know how much Mornhinweg is going to have to say about who starts on the offensive line. Offensive line coach Howard Mudd seems to be the guy calling the shots on the offensive line. If Marty were still calling the shots along the offensive line, I think he would go with Jamaal Jackson at center, but Mudd seems to be leaning toward Kelce.

As for the right tackle spot, which has four players are battling for the starting position, Mornhinweg was asked about whether King Dunlap’s quality performance against the Steelers would nail down a starting job for him. “We’ll see, but it was a great sign that King played at a high level, for the most part, there were a couple things that he could get better at real quick, easily correctible and quickly correctible, but that was a good thing for our football team and for King. And then, we’ll see with [T] Winston [Justice]. When he’s ready we’ll see. He’s not quite ready yet, I think he’s getting a little bit closer as the days go by here.”

There’s an outside chance that Justice could wind up being the starter, despite not playing in any preseason games. One of the reporters asked him whether it would fair to require Justice to play in a preseason game in order to begin the season in the starting lineup. “It would be the right thing to do would be to see him play to see if [he is ready]”, the offensive coordinator said. “However, our training staff is so good at understanding and then communicating when the player is ready to play in a game. Now Winston has experience and all those types of things. We’ll make those decisions as we go there. I think we still have plenty of time and plenty of reps and all those types of things.”

As for how soon he wants to make decisions about who is going to start on the offensive line, Mornhinweg wants to get it done ASAP.

“As earliest as possible, sometimes it’s not possible to be able to make the decision on which the top five, seven, nine or more players are”, said Marty. “And they have to get enough plays so you can get a good evaluation on the player. So that’s where we’re at right now. Certainly would have liked it to get done in the offseason but it’s not. We’ve been through this before, and I think we’ll be just fine when those decisions are made at any point. I think we’ll be just fine.”

Love how Howard Mudd wants to mould an moulding athletic O-line like in Indy. One that will hold blocks for a short time while QB fires away with 3-5 step quick hitters. One of the reasons he needed althletic guys is ’cause they were crouched in their stances for 30 secs each play while Manning read D and called out plays at line of scrimmage. Anyone think we’re going to see that here?

Birds have a QB who almost exclusively lines up in the shotgun and then drops back another 5 to 7 steps waiting for 30/40 yrd patterns to develop.

Seem to me like good times all around.

The offense will be fine once we finally learn that our current staff don’t know how to draft Right Tackles. Runyan was a free agent acquisition who we threw alot of money at to lure here.

On another not…”G”

Told you Juan don’t know what the hell he’s doing..

Look at what the linebackers are saying!!!!!

“The way they teach you here to get off blocks, pretty much nobody else really takes on blocks like that,” Chaney said. “Most people go in there with their shoulders . . . They teach us to go hands and helmet. You can make more plays that way if you do it the right way. It’s a learning experience. By the time the Rams game gets here . . . we’ll be ready to go in St. Louis.”

Why in the hell is this guy teaching linebackers to engage Offensive linemen on the 2nd level?

They are linebackers!!!!!

Not offensive Linemen!!!!!!!

This is what happens when you make an offensive lineman a defensive coordinator.

Enough said

Songs, I thought I got rid of you when the Eagles got four pro bowlers on defense……after you said they wouldn’t address the RCB or make any improvements.

Why are you still here?

To Songs,
LB get OL on them quite a bit, (Usually Guards or the Center who will pull out and go after a LB on the 2nd Level) so thats a valid point,,
I doon’t lie the approach of being 5-6 Yards oof the ball, I wolud like to see the LB about 2 yards off the line of scrimman and attack the gaps before any OL can’t get out there in time to block them .. another words, beatch them to the punch which is what a an agreesive LB Corp and DC do (look at the Jets,Bears,Ravens,Steelers as examples) they don’t sit back and fight off blocks, they are agressive and beat the OL to the spot to get to the Runner before thay are ever blocked.. LB is about a mindset as much technique, if you want to have the perfect technique and analyze everything, the play is over and the ball carrier is running down the sidelines for a TD for it moves so fast..

Gabe Carimi is a beast apparently. But hey we’ve got canadian firefighter fans now, to add to our fanbase and that’s whats important. Not winning. But having the most fans. We need to appeal to everyone. Next draft we’ll take the most exotic player available. It will be really great. This is the same BS back in 2008 when we could have drafted Jeff Otah. Why do these bastards insist on waiting and waiting? This was the same shit with the safety back in the Kolb draft. They’re not aggressive enough in drafts, they’re obsessed with getting as many picks as possible. Then we’re left with an assload of mediocre talent. 2008 is the year we traded our pick with Carolina and they drafted Jeff Otah and we moved back and drafted Trevor Laws who sucks ass. This team deserves 0 superbowls. We suck at common sense. We got lucky djax and mccoy fell to us the second. Not to mention Vick was a miracle. Proof of that was that they were willing to roll with Kolb as our starter without even giving Vick a shot.

Marty is nothing but a hand puppet for Reid. Nothing he says mean a freaking thing to me! When you have the nerve to say, that Duncrap & Justice are good linemen & fighting for the job, you lose all credibility in my book.
Hey, Vick look forward to leading the league in sacks & INT’s! Good luck!

It’s setting up to be a real interesting season, it is preseason so it isn’t time to panic yet so give the Reidtard time to set everyone up for another let-down early in the playoffs (isn’t this what he gets paid for?). OL Coach Mudd should have the say on his players and who is ready on the OL. I have no faith that Marty Moron should have any say unless permission is given, lets not forget the great job he did in Detroit.
