Let’s Be Honest, The Eagles Passing Attack Has A Long Way To Go

You might have come out of this game, excited about the Eagles offense which put up 24 points but I’m not. I’m concerned about an offense that won’t play in another game until the season starts in St. Louis.

They benefited from short fields after the Browns muffed two punts and turned the ball over on an interception. The Eagles with Vick at the helm, failed to put together one long scoring drive in the third preseason game against a Cleveland Browns team which won’t get any where near the playoffs.

After the game, Vick talked about the performance of the offense and I wondered what he was talking about when he was finished.

“It was great to be able to get back out there with the guys and play two full quarters and play with a different mindset”, Vick said. “We went into this game knowing that we were going to play at least three quarters and we wanted to put on a good performance. We started out a little shaky but we got it together.”

When was it that they got it together. Maybe Vick is just trying to cover up the problems, so that everybody will stay positive. I didn’t see much to get excited about on the offensive side. They ran the ball much better than they threw it. Vick completed only one pass to a wide receiver and other than that he was able only to dump the ball down to LeSean McCoy.

DeSean Jackson should have let Vick know that he wasn’t going to risk taking any hits until he signs his new contract. A couple of times, Jackson dove to the ground with the ball coming his way rather than risk being hit. Another time he dropped a pass which was right in his hands. Vick missed him on another throw, so how can anybody be happy about Jackson being targeted four times, but leaving the game with no catches.

The poor play of the offensive line stood out at the beginning of the game, but it wasn’t just the early offensive line problems that make you wonder about this football team. It was also the decision-making of Vick. He’s got to stop it with the Superman stuff or he’s going to get hurt and/or wind up being a turnover machine. I wonder if he realizes things didn’t go well when after game he talks as if everything went smoothly.

“We’ve been doing a lot in the running game and we’ve been doing a lot in the passing game”, Vick said. “We’ve just been able to make some good checks in the run game based on what the defense is doing. Fortunately, it all worked out.”

I did see some good runs in the running game by McCoy, Ronnie Brown and Dion Lewis but in the passing game, they left a lot to be desired.

Do you remember what Vick did when he was under pressure of rookie defensive tackle Phil Taylor early in the game? Jason Kelce and Danny Watkins turned the big rookie loose and he was on Vick before he knew it.

In this situation Vick should have been worried about turning the ball over rather than trying to make something happen downfield. He mad a bad decision to try to throw the football, but he wasn’t even able to get his arm going forward before he was hit and forced to fumble.

The Browns anemic offense wasn’t able to move the ball and they let Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie block the field goal attempt.

Vick who threw three interceptions a week ago was involved in another turnover, when he threw the ball up to DeSean Jackson on a go route. He was under serious pressure from a blitzing linebacker and wasn’t able to step into the throw, The ball sailed and was easily picked off.

It was subsequently called back because the linebacker nailed Vick and slammed him to the ground, but that doesn’t mean Vick didn’t make another bad decision with the football. The pass looked a lot like one of the picks he threw last week.

They still have time to get it together plus Jeremy Maclin and Steve Smith will be added to their passing game. Still Vick and the offensive line have got to get it together before the season starts.

This is why I don’t give a care whether they give him a raise or not. Skinny Bum. Lift some darn weights. This show boat only cares about himself.
I feel another Jevon Kearse here. Give him the money he wants and it’s going to be party time. That boney defensive end did’nt give a care about how much he weighed either. Just get by with speed. No effort to become a complete player.

Instead of talking about trading CB Samuels, they should trade “Souja Boy” and use Maclin to stretch the field. If that even means anything. Anybody who runs deep will “stretch the field” and open things up.

A gimmick player who can be shut down.

“oh he’s so special” even Pinkston averaged 18 yards a catch in this offense.

2000 18.1 apc 2004 18.4 apc.

The Eagles have had 2 of the strongest arms in the NFL with McNabb and Vick. Andy takes enough shots that if you have 4.4 or 4.2 speed you’ll get some bombs.

Desean is skinny Overrated selfish player. Who only reported because of the new CBA removes his leverage.

Underpaid??

When players like Ernie Sims start giving back money when they under perform a contract, then I’ll say he’s underpaid. Otherwise he has done what he was signed to do in the first place.

Play football and make plays.

Just imagine the vitriole that would be spewing around here if we still had Kolb at the helm and he put up these stats over the final 2 tuneup games:

15 of 30 for 146 yrds, 0TDs, 4INTS (one called back on questionable penalty) and 2 fumbles.

Anyway…you can all fire away about my hate – I’m heading back to the lake for the weekend…..you’re Hater free for the next 3 days!!

The lock out is directly affecting teams with a lot of changes and/or additions. I doubt that any team has more changes than the Eagles. With key moves made to the coaching staff and on both sides of the ball, they could have a hard time getting in sync. I believe the lockout will increase Green Bay’s chances of becoming a repeat champion. They’re a veteran team, who I believe is still hungry.

Vinnie, if you think that Vick had a bad game last night because of his stats, then you A) no zero about football and B) didn’t watch the game. He was running for his life for most of the game. The pass protection was pathetic. He was straight up awful against Pitt, but last night he was fine.

vick took what was given, just like peyton/brady/brees
had it been season he would take soem shots (you couldnt possibly forget last season already)
desean isnt playign football because he wants a contract before risking injury, oh well it is what it is

not worried about our 27 ppg offense that added steve smith and ronnie brown, not at all
issues or concerns? perhaps, but like i said in other posts the packers and steelers dont have the greatest o-lines in the world and they obviously were in the big game

I feel primary problem with Eagle is same as it ever was…Andy Reid puts his QBs in a position to get killed…You cannot pass, pass & pass some more as a steady diet…Eagles have the potential for a strong running game, and this must be utilized, as it keeps the opposing defense honest, helps our own offensive line, and takes our QB off the hook to some degree…Also, the tight ends, i.e Celek should be utilized to the max both for dump off passes and in the blocking schemes…Last Eagle drive of the 2nd quarter used all these elements to good effect…Vick will be slaughtered if Reid calls passing plays 65-70% of time…Consider how Aaron Rodgers was used in the last Super Bowl, as it illustrates the advantage of a more balanced attack.

Really a Kolb reference… this is the same offense from last year. there is no need for panic. Only difference the right side of the O-Line Sucks… Kelce, Watkins, those 2 are actually worse than the RT. Mudd, is stuck in the 1970s Mudd with his choices. We are not a running team so starting Kelce makes no sense. I saw him totally dominated quite a bit yesterday.

I cant believe people are hating on desean. This offense is crap with out him. The real problem is Reid. Soft, predictable offense. Did the last game look any different than any other in the last 10 years? Pass happy play calling. QB getting killed. Everyone else gets blamed except Reid.

G,
I agree 1000%. I’m glad i’m not the only one that had seen DJax pull the Pinkston alligator body, twice! Has he even made a play yet, in 2 games! There is no way in hell, I would give him a big or long contract.
BTW, off topic, why don’t these stupid bastards, ever put our WR’s in motion!? For a team that throws so damn much, i’ve never seen them do it. Wouldn’t it help DJax.
