Jeremy Maclin And Steve Smith Practice With The Birds Today

Eagles starting wide out Jeremy Maclin was back to work today as expected. He had been working out and conditioning himself on the side for a week, now he’s lining up in his equipment and playing football.

Maclin’s goal is to be ready to play in the season open on September 11th in his home town of St. Louis against the Rams. With all that the young man has been through and the fact that the game will be in his hometown, he’s aching to get on the field.

Maclin wasn’t alone in joining the Birds wide receivers corps, former Giants wide out Steve Smith was in Eagles gear for the very first time today. I know this can’t be good news for Giants head coach Tom Coughlin, but Smith is ahead of schedule and may be able to play in the first game of the season against the Rams.

“Really with Jeremy and Steve right now, we’re really just taking it day by day, literally, just to see how they do”, Andy Reid said after practide. “We’ll see how they feel. Listen, this is day by day. We’ll see how they do tonight and then they’ll get some work in tomorrow. They had limited reps today, very few reps today. And then, if they make it through the evening fine without any problems or setbacks then we’ll add some more onto it tomorrow, and then we’ll just keep on going from there and see what happens. But really, I can’t tell you the date right now on either one when they’ll be ready to play.”

The addition of Maclin and Smith is much needed because the Birds wide receivers haven’t been able to be consistent thus far. It hasn’t helped that Michael Vick had that awful Pittsburgh game and the offensive line has been ineffective thus far.

Maclin and Smith will give Vick targets who can work inside or downfield. They’ll likely have DeSean Jackson stretching the field and Vick will be able to rely on these guys to be where they’re supposed to be and come down with the football.

You know there is little chance AR will use his WRs until Sept 11th. Vanilla!

Other Scores
Houston Texans beatting up on the worst team in the NFL this year 24-7 over the hapless 49ers.. QB A SMith 2/5 for for 17 yards and 1 Int.. Texans have 19 1st Downs to the 49ers 4 and have outgianed them 282 yards to 65 yds in the 1st Half… 49ers are playing for the 1st Overall Pick to get QB A Luck from Stanford next Draft

Jags leading 32-=24 over the BIlls in a high-scoring no defense contest..
TB Bucs and DOlphins in 10-10 Tie ..

TO RTB,
EAgles do not play the Lions.. DT N Fairly is still hurt (Injured Foot) and hasn’t really played much this Camp.. I think he just got the boot off and may be a 1-2 Weeks before he’s in Football shape to practice and play but him and N Suh will be a huge force for many years to come..

Memo from Andy-
*Welcome back boys, you are now starters on the right side of the O-line. Don’t worry you’ll do fine for our SB run.*

Im so happy to see that maclin is back. Steve smith too was a big addition. Them practicing today tells me that they are shooting for opener. They will start on game 1 of the reg season pending any setbacks. I see them being lethal this year on offense if they stay healthy and that oline holds up. And i believe it will with Herremans at RT and mathis there at LG, im a littleconcerned about center but they love kelce and he was taking reps with the ones again today so hes there for the long haul… Watkins has to keep improving there, he cant get any worst then he was on thursday night…

For what its worth, Matt Ryan had to throw the ball 42 times in one half to get 220 yds a TD and a pick. Ben threw only 16 passes for the same yardage and 2 tds. Oh, Ryan was only 22 for 42 JUST over 50% completion percentage. Paulman left that out

Kolb? Wow interesting. I’d like to see him do well (A litle bit anyway, haaa).

Get the Line fixed up, and lets get ready to roll. Please fix that line and do’t wreck my QB! Fellas, call me crazy (or call my therapist), but i am feeling RUN this year. Duce-Westbrook-Buck flashbacks. Oh and I know I said “Call Me Crazy”, but really don’t do it, for the money I am paying I can’t afford that kind of external reinforcement. (Smile)

To Jake,
I see Kolb having a pretty good Season, They have a solid Running game with Fitz on the outside who will make a lot of QB’s Stats look good since he catches about everything thrown his way.. I think he throws for about 2800 yards with about a 55% Completion % and about 20-22 TD’s but will have 16-18 Int’s to go along with it.. I would say he will get sacked quite a bit for he has a tendency to move backwards when rushed until he learns to get rid of the ball sooner whcih will come as he gains more hame experience.. In the NFC with 16 Starters, I say he will come in ranked about 10th-12th but will play better as the Season goes along.. I wish him well and he has a good attitude so I think this new Team ams teammated and local Arizona media will be pulling for him and remember the Local Arizona Media/Fans will not be as critical on him early on like they are in PHilly so for his sake, maybe he can get off to a decent start, develop some confidence and play well.. As long as he doesn’t try to force things and their Offensive Scheme doesn’t have him dropping back 40-45 times a game and let’s him manage the game and pick his spots, he should do pretty well..

Can we get a new picture of Steve Smith when discussing him please? A training camp pic, a roster photo….anything but what you’re using now. Thanks.
