Eagles Better Be Prepared for Fred Jackson

There’s been much to due about the Eagles’ defensive struggles this season.

The 30th ranked run defense has allowed big days to nearly every running back that has lined up opposite them: Cadillac Williams (91), Michael Turner (114), Ahmad Bradshaw (86) and Frank Gore (127).

Next week, the Eagles will have another daunting task. Two weeks ago, Buffalo’s Fred Jackson led the league in rushing; now, he is fourth in the league with 369 yards and four touchdowns. Despite his minor setback in the rushing ranks, the 30-year old veteran has been a pleasure to watch this season and is a major cog in the current machine known as the Buffalo Bills.

Who would have predicted that the Bills would be 3-1 (with a win over New England) heading into their Week Five meeting with the 1-3 Eagles?

The answer to that is simply no one. The Bills have been the surprise team of the season so far, and they could easily be undefeated if not for a late slip up against the Cincinnati Bengals.

With their win over Tom Brady and the AFC East powerhouse, the Bills are for real. The Eagles better be prepared for a challenging game at Ralph Wilson Stadium.

In four games, Jackson leads the league in rushing attempts over 20 yards with six. His ability to explode through the line and into the secondary makes him a scary matchup for the Eagles.

Simply put, when Jackson begins to get in a groove throughout the course of a given game, there is no telling just how dangerous the Buffalo can be.

In a recent story by Brian Galliford of Buffalo Rumblings, Jackson is “the fortunes of the Buffalo Bills.” He further goes on to present evidence (Bills Week  4 loss to Cincinnati) as to why his point is, in fact, accurate.

“When Cincinnati figured out how to slow [Jackson] down, however, it meant doom for the rest of Buffalo’s offense,” said Galliford.

In that particular game, Jackson scored a touchdown and was well on his pace for yards per game heading into the halftime. At the same time, the Bills were winning 17-3. But then came the second half, and with it, the Bengals began to figure out how to stop Jackson. He struggled to get things going after the break, and the Bills ultimately wound up suffering their first defeat in Cincinnati’s come-from-behind victory.

The Eagles have a lot of question marks on their defense. A weak secondary corps. An ineffective group of linebackers. However, they do have a tremendous defensive line, which implies that their success against the Bills’ running game will have to come from the outside pressure, specifically Jason Babin, who leads the league in sacks with eight. Trent Cole, who typically plays opposite Babin, is out for about three weeks with a Grade 2 calf sprain.

In year’s past, the Bills were never considered a threat to the Eagles. But on the brink of falling to 1-4 in an already disappointing season (so far), the Eagles must find a way to knock off a team that is two weeks removed from upsetting the potential AFC representative in the Super Bowl.

I thought Trent Cole was injured and wasn’t going to play for a while because of a calf strain.

If Fred Jackson goes off, then don’t be surprised that at some point in the second half you see some big, slightly drunk (ok probably mostly drunk), irish looking dude run onto the field to tackle him myself.

I don’t think I’d be much of a downgrade.

I ‘ve been watching and following Fred Jackson for 2 years now and I would compare his impact to the Bills Offense to what a Brian Westbrook (in his prime) meant to the Eagles Offense.. He is very versatile and does everything well..
He doesn’t have the breakway speed that Westy had, but runs between the tackles very well and is very shifty and has a very strong lower body making him difficult to bring down one on one and is always moving forward… He’s an excellent receiver and will line up all over the place like Westbrook used to and he’s also a very good blocker and not afraid to mix it up and pick up blitzing LB/Safeties.. Another Rb not to overlook is CJ Spiller who in his 2nd Season is finalyl coming into his own, and is the breakaway back who can turn a screen or draw play for big yards that the Bills have not had in years..
I expect formations where the Bills and OC/HC Chan Gailey will put CJ SPiller or JAcons out on the perimeter to match up with the EAgles LB which is a huge mismatch and a big advantage for the Bill… I expect Jackson to get about 120 YArds in combined Rushing and pass recieving with another 50-60 Yards of Offense by CJ SPiller.. The Eagles Front 7 (without T Cole, A Dixon and a less than 100 % J Parker & D Tapp will have their hands full) If the LB’s don’t collectively play their best game of the Season this week, this Game will get out of hand an be lopsided in the Bills favor..

one last thing about Fred Jackson is that he can get the tough yards down in the Red Zone & Short Yardage siturations and protects the ball very well.. He’s in my opinion one of the Top 3 RB’s in the NFL due being able to do it all…

every runningback and tight end we’ll face this season are circling their calendars for a matchup against our Eagles.

The only way this defense will remotely work would be if we as a team put up near 40 a game.

Now that teams are willing to let our offense run up and down the field without breaking the plain…I doubt this offense the way the line is currently constructed can be a juggernaut.

Teams have the blueprint for this offense.

Take away the big play by playing corners and safetes mid – deep.

Play nickle and dime against most packages.

Send an extra man to rush almost ever play to force Vick to make the quick read.

Get stout in the red zone.

Smack the reciever’s in the mouth if they dare come over the middle.

The one thing Andy could do is against his philosphy.

RUN SHADY MCCOY ENOUGH TO GET TEAMS OUT OF THERE PASSING COVERAGES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IF YOU DON’T RUN, IT TAKES AWAY YOUR ABILITY TO DO PLAY ACTION PASS.

but we all know it won’t happen.

I have Bills 38 – Eagles 26 with the Eagles scoring a late TD on a pass from Kafka to TE Harbor, which may be a nice combo for things to come..
I don’t like the match-up at LT for the blitzing Bills OLB Shawn Merriman and don’t believe QB Vick will make it thru this game in 1 piece after the Bills build a large 1st half lead making the Eagles even more 1-dimensional than normal.. After this Game, Vick may want to take a water-barrell ride over the Niagara Falls they way Coach AR keep putting him in a position to get killed.. At least he’ll have a nice view…

Eagles start to get the season turned around with a nice win – defense shows some of the old flaws but holds it together this time, Dunlap and Watkins provide good push and the Eagles put together the best perfomance of the very young season

The Eagles are going to beat Buffalo, plain and simple. Not because they are magicially going to become good overnight, just because its one of those games. Unfortunately for the fans, this is what the Eagles always do. Win a game we all thought they’d lose, than everyone feels bad for bad mouthing them and thinks they will magically morph into the dream team we heard so much about. We know how this story ends though, we’ve seen it for 13 years. Pass 70% of the time, smallish, toothless defense and horrendous in game coaching/clock management. They are good, but no good enough to win a SB. That will not change until the culture and philosophy of the team change, which likely means a new coach.

Do all of you pick against the eagles and focus on the all of the negatives just to feel that much better on Sunday if we do win? Or is it just everyone’s inherent nature to be negative? Some of you guys make it difficult to read these posts because all you do it bitch and complain. How many of you sit in the 2nd level and just talk shit against Reid and our terrible LBs the entire game? We have a lot of talent that hasn’t been utilized properly to date; however, if you any of you have played the game, which probably isnt many you would realize that football is the ultimate team sport and team chemistry is key. We don’t have the chemistry right now but who is to say our coming out party isn’t this Sunday? A lot of you will say no way but none of us know for sure but we haven’t lost a game bc we lack talent, we lack discipline and focus. All these posts about our shit LBs aren’t the reason we have lost, I’m a true birds fan and not a crybaby like 90% of the people on here (Songs, Vinne, Scorp) i’m going 35-20 Eagles.

Who are we kidding? Without Jimmy Johnson, the Fat Man has finally been exposed.

A moron for…

Starting Casey Matthews at MLB

Trading out of the first round and helping a division rival.

Wasting one 1st round pick after another.(no pro bowlers)

Trading a probowl QB to a division rival (I know it did not hurt us but it should not have been done.)

Having a passing team and drafting a run blocker with your 1st round pick.

Drafting a 26 year old fireman with your 1st round pick.

Getting a 150 high school player as your #1 WR. (after flyweight Pinkston)

Signing a right tackle with 3 back surgerys after what you went thru with the Andrew brothers.

Having a pee-wee sized defense year end and year out.

Being stubborn and hard headed, even when the most average fan can see
a change is needed.
(years to get wr’s, no kick returner, no center,no linebackers etc, just pick a year Andy will ignore a position every year.)

and drum roll please…….

Hiring a sorry offensive line coach to be your defensive coordinator.

The dumbest, dumbest, dumbest move in philadelphia sports history!!!!

KTDawk – boy KT you must be knew to this site – if you are welcome. You may think you have come to an Egales fan site – but this is the GCOBB site – just get the basic ground rules down everything that goes worng in the entire world is Reid’s fault – it may look like Maclin fumbled – but it was Reid – he must of shook his hand after eating a greasy cheeseburger or something

Every player we used to have that left is and will be the greatest ever – every player we bring in either sucks or isn’t being used properly –

making any references to prior playing caoching or anything else that adds real world perspective to the above will be immediately shot down as being arrogant and condescending. I think it because none of them have any playing or coaching experience so this is how they dismiss valid rebuttals to there stupid point but………..

You are not permitted to use statistcs, data, infomration from football data sources that do not confirm the eagles are the worst

If you actaully get into a decent discussion and make an excellent valid point, the topic will immeidately change (I call it the GCOBB shuffle) to a different topic to recast the eagles in a negative light

anything bad Reid has done in the last 13 years will be held against him, anyhting done right will be immediately forgotten because we haven’t won a SB

these guys could never pooisbly imagine what a bandwagon is let alone know if they are jumping on or off it

name calling – totally acceptable if it is them calling anyone on the eagles or the eagles staff or anyone who has valid infomration to show they are in fact nor right – if you in turn dare call one of the more negative people a name then you will be ‘classless’ and and embarrassment

and the ultimate trump card is – we haven’t won the Super Bowl – even if a team last won in it 1985 – that’s OK that that team has issues becuase in 1985 they won the trophy – and it is totally OK to suck now…..

every other team has perfect draft picks – all of ours suck –

you will never ever ever be able to get any type of crtieria for any statement – if someone is ass – straight ass – that’s it –

no other team loses players to FA – and all the FA they get work out perfectly on week 1

every other team has a coach that fully embraces the media and has lively and detailed game plan conversations with the media

no other team has weakspots – all other teams value each position equally

in the minds of the people here – winning 6 Div Champs, 9 playoff experiences and 5 NFCC games is a birthright – it is owed to them – really hard to have a conversation with people like that why – haven’t won the SB and it is owed to them

that’s it for now – hope it helps you navigate the waters – just remember – these people actually think things like hoping the Eagles lose – prediciting the eagles lose – somehow makes them better fans – there are guys on here that actulaay write they want the eagles to have a terrible year so the coach will get fired

so sail safe and enjoy

The Birds will finally wake up and play football. This is a MUST GAME. I can’t believe all you Eagles fans are giving up on the season. We beat ourselves these last three games. KTDAWK AND NAVY – Wow, a breath of freaking fresh air. Navy, KT’s no newbie.. .he’s just been avoiding the masochism for awhile (god bless him).

Navy, and KT, and I am know preaching ‘do as I say, not as I do’ (ah, human nature), our problem is that we’re trying to use logic to persuade and enlighten illogical people.

Check out this quote from “Bringing the Heat” By Mark Bowden (an excellent book about the Buddy Ryan era eagles you all should know by now – and if not, read it) – page 96:

:”As Norman saw it, Buddy appealed to the wrong element. He was the hero of the Id-people, the ugly football fans, the lowest common denominators. The Id-people were hate driven fans, who were drawn to football more than any other sport (excpept for maybe pro hockey).”…. there’s a lot more that’s VERY relevant to our collective discussions and arguments here.

You should read it more – go to this link in google reader (you don’t even have to buy the book) – http://books.google.com/books?id=tZK3oEmqQ08C&pg=PA96&lpg=PA96&dq=%22id+people%22+%2B+eagles&source=bl&ots=VPVTM5qBhm&sig=mrhIRsBZTbAc5f3KHhsT0JvSbNg&hl=en#v=onepage&q=%22id%20people%22%20%2B%20eagles&f=false

Birds going up against one of the worst Ds in league. I think its on the offence to carry this one. D is going to have hands full with a suprisingly good Buffalo offense. (well maybe not suprising if look back at 2nd half of last year)

Offence is going to have to drop 35 before I start feeling comfortable about how game will turn out. They should be able to do that. Otherwise I’m going to not enjoy the day long “dream team” insults that are going to come my way.

anyway – busted the dude in a HUGE lie yestruday – I guess he thought he’d eat his wheates and cowboy up and tried to play – went so far as to brag he had two sons on baseball scholarships at Florida state – problem is Florida state is a baseball powerhouse – really how hard is it to check the Floridastate.scout.com website for years the time frame his kids would be in the window for college and you realize real quick FSU has no players signed to scholarships for the last 6 year from the PA/NJ area – none – the only Northeast kids did JUCO ball in florida – umm… duh?

then he bragged he played both baseball and football at Temple – happens my wife went there about the same time – so how hard is it to pull off a copy of the roster from BBall land FBall for the years he said he went there and see if the same name (any name?!?!) is on both lists….

Am I a “Hater” to think of this or to question what comes out of this Front Office/Coaching Staff as far as what the plan is to move this team forward…
I am a little old school, just show me a plan, work on it, show some progress, adapt your system to new players, rule changes,etc,etc.. but what I hear coming from this Coaching Staff is nothing but built in excuses which is unacceptable to me at this point..These players and coached are highly paid professionals and should perform and execute at a high level..

But the most visible and vocal fans were the ones whose self worth seemed to hang on the egales fortunes, fans for whom winning was not just a preffered outcome on a fall afternnon, but something owed, by the players, the coaches and the owner, presumabley for the coast of thier tickets or, for the hardest cases as a Philadelphian birthright –

Right now, Our Philadelphia Eagles Sucks ass the way they’re playing and I’m not going to buy into their PR garbage and media spins until I see change with my own eyes.

These are the things I’ll be looking for to know if our pathetic eagles are attempting to change things around.

1. Hire a new review guy that view the television feed who have a direct line to Andy on crucial plays the requires a play being overturned.

2.The Eagles mix it up and add “I” formations and different variations of running plays with 2 tight ends to force defenses out of pass coverages so playaction can be an option.

3.Bring down the passing ratio to 60 – 65% maximum per game.

4.sparingly use the wide 9 to close gaps to limit the below average linbackers responsibilities, and have them focus on gaps.

5.use Rilsy Cooper and Avant along with the 2 tight ends is short yardage sets and make Harbor the go to Tight end.

6. Dial up more blitzes with corners locked up man to man …Pull out JJ’s bags of tricks and scrap Juan Castillo’s so called “new wrinkles”.

7. No more plays that takes forever to develop near the goal line.

8. start Jamaal Jackson to get some push on run plays…if you feel good about Kelce then put him as guard between Peters and Jackson.

Will these things happen ?

I doubt it.

You decided to throw out there the comments about whipping my pussy ass I believe – you broght up letting my kids read my post – OK – on both – and every time you speak of my children being proud, my son begs me to let him take care of you (yes, he is violent – he gets paid about ohhh 25K a year to run around with a big stick and smack the snot out of people)
angry – no, I like to laugh – I view this as a WWE type event, and yes, I let my son read it – I appreciate a good put down as much as the next guy – but the ones on here are so lame. my mettle – been tested many, many times, and as I said – got the medal, tshirt or newspaper clipping to show for it

I find it humourous that you – which true, I know nothing about you – seem to want to imply to me (someone that shares) how and why and what I should think? I have more then paid the Navy back for the cost of educating and training me – with years and years of faithful service – but I am gathering you really don’t know much about that (just a guess)

so Jakey chu – I am guessing under the light of a new day – you really weren’t all that interested in whipping my ass – because I don’t want to deny you the chance brother (funny how you threaten me then you sign peace out – very passive agressive of you) cause I will show up – might take me a while, but I can arrange it and then you can at that momnet make the bold decision if you really think its a good idea –

3-1 Bills with a good offense and a downhill runner….AT HOME

Against a 1-3 Eagles team with key injuries, weak run defense with Juan Castillo at the helm.

EAGLES FALL 1-4

But I have to modify the score.

The Eagles will play for their football lives which will keep them in the game, but Andy will blow another challenge he should have reviewed..and the rookie kicker continues his slump.

BILLS 30
EAGLES 27

From the sound of it Brayman looked down on the very fans who filled his pockets and also Ryan who brought interest in the Eagles back to life. I doubt if
Norman who was a water boy for the Eagles and made money selling cars which is not the most honorable profession ever looked back to his roots in West Phila. I doubt if he knew any of the fans personally and realized that all NFL teams have fans who are similar. His greed made him a victim to Bernie Madoff whom he probably considered a friend who entertained his in the fashion he thoughrt he was accustomed to yachts caviar. So if he erred in his assesment of a ponzie scheme thief how can what he saw as valid.

When the Eagles played at Franklin Field in the 60’s I remember my dad telling me stories of ignorant fans yelling obsenities, getting into fights and drinking. I don’t think the fan base drastically changed because of Buddy Ryan. Why the hell did Braman hire him if he was such a good judge of character.

Ez – did you check the read out – it covers some of that kind of stuff – there is a great section in there on how cheap Braman was – the equipment manager would make the players turn in a jock before he would give them a new one –

I don’t think he said the fan base changed – I think he refered to which element he appealed….

you ever go down to Franklin Field and watch the old Philly Stars play – rmemebr the mighy stars verse Donald Trumps New Jersey Generals………

The media, the media, the media. What do they know? It’s their job to cause controversy and overexagerate. But a former sports writer for the Inquire quoting an owner who didn’t remotely like his coach is the “Gospel according to Luke”

Navy I never saw a Stars- Generals game at Franklin Field.

One thig I must comment on regarding Norman Braman is that I’m sure he did not judge his customer base in Miami where he opened up a Cadillac dealership.
I’ms sure he didn’t care what type of customer was entering his showroom as long as they had the cash or credit. Drug dealer or not he probably treated them all the same.
