Kelce & Mathis Should Focus On Football & Forget The Anti-Reid Signs

A couple of the Eagles offensive linemen, Jason Kelce and Evan Mathis are embroiled in a controversy about some fans who were holding a banner out in front the Nova Care Complex on Monday. The center and guard approached the Eagles fans who were holding up the banner which said some to the effect, “Andy, it’s Time’s to Go.”

They said they didn’t threaten them, but they asked to remove the sign. The fans took it down. Now, fans have been calling 94-WIP in an uproar about the behavior of the players. It sounds like these guys meant well but they shouldn’t have bothered those fans.

It was a honest mistake by the offensive linemen to approach the fans and ask them to take down the sign. They should have left those fans alone. The fans have a right to free speech and I understand that they were standing on public grounds.

“We don’t need that kind of division on the team right now,” said Kelce. “They have the right to do that, just as much as I have the right to tell ’em — ask ’em — to take the sign down. I support their freedom of speech, their right to say anything they want to, but what I want them to do is do that on a blog, do that in media, keep it away from here. Right now we’re trying to come together as a team and get this thing fixed, and we don’t need people calling for our head coach (to be fired) right on our front door, when we’re trying to get better and come together.”

As you see the two offensive linemen are standing by their actions. They also released a statement.

“I support our fans, I support everyone that roots for us, everyone that comes to the games. That’s the wrong message that’s being displayed right now. I support freedom of speech,” said Kelce. “If you want to go out to talk bad stuff about the coaches or things like that do it on a blog, do it wherever you want, but don’t bring it to our front door right now when we’re 1-4 trying to get better we don’t need that kind of division on the team right now.”

If these guys want to support Andy Reid, they need to focus on doing a good job blocking on the offensive line. I’m sure that other fans are going to take over now with their signs for Reid to be fired. The only way to stop that is to start winning some football games.

Those offensive linemen could get every anti-Reid sign removed from every place in the Delaware Valley, but if they don’t start winning some football games, Reid isn’t going to be around very long.

Problem I sense in what Im hearing about the Eagles players is that they arent focused on what is important… WINNING!!

dont worry about the media…

dont worry about standing up for Andy…

dont worry about the angry fans

dont worry about the refs

Worry about executing the play and stringing together some games where you play sound football..

Worry about your game… that is all

I think this guy was way out of line here and needs an attitude check. What right does he have to tell the fans how to feel or react? Fans invest limitless amounts of time, money and energy into rooting for this team every year and they have a right to express their pleasure or displeasure with this team whether he likes it or not.

If he wants to silence the fans then the way to do that is to STFU and play and Win games! Bottom line.

I have no problem whatsover with their actions. …In fact I’ve gained a new respect for these cats..In fact I think this action will further strengthen the team as a whole…pretty sure their teammates are taking notice of this. I dont care how they do it or what they do…I want them to win and meet the expectations I have of them, bottom line.

Yes they need to focus on football, but you know your mental state plays a major role as well??? Right fellas?

RAsh 1- another solid post – you are displacing the Pman as the voice of sanity and reason – you know you will always be my favorite Pman

Kelce is a smart cat – I like his response in all respects – lesson to be learned there for all that post – we don’t need division – and that same right procliamed to protest the eagles is the same right to praise the eagles (except if you even come close to praising you will be accused of being a paid poster!)

I heard OT King DUnlap suffered a leg injury which appears pretty bad..
I am not sure if ankle or knee area but EAgles cannot affors to lose a OT..
With Peters hurting, who is going to play LT… Redskins DE Brian Orapko just upped his chances as Defensive Player of the Week…
Maybe WJ back at RT and Herrmeans now slides to LT…
This Season has been cursed and I blame these damn rounded, soft numerals on their Game Jersey.. get rid of them and bring back the manly, block, square numerals.. not this rounded, wussy stuff..

No worries P – a big (any) win in DC will get you ready to come back stronger after the bye –

Speaking of Dunlap – Philly.com is saying back spasms – solid job last week – a former 7th rounder took on a former #1 and did a fine job (that holding penalty in the RZ was BS and even Bellicheck said it during the reply – you call holding on that you are calling holding every play) – Merriman has never come close to where he was before he got popped for roids

Dear Kelce & Mathis

Im paying your damn salary and your head coach’s as well. You been here for a few months while I followed this team for 10 years of disappointment. Ticket after ticket Sunday after Sunday I stood in these stands in below 0 degree weather and watched my team under achieve time and time again and its time I had a voice. So before you worry about my sign worry about your quarterback getting hit 10-15 times a game.

Dear Mr Eagle fan holding up a sign –

We recently arrived in Philly. We were taught that being a part of a team means we all work together. Or parents and coaches growing up told us that when times get tough, we all need to work harder and not become divided. Our teachers, priests, and older players taught us the improtance of sticking together and being loyal, of not looking for fault in others, or blaming others, but in trying to do better. Regardless of your opinion, I do not see your name on the checks that we cash – that would be a Mr Lurie. And Mr Lurie is very sure that should you no longer chose to by those tickets, he has a very, very, very long list of loyal, dedicated Eagle fans that are willing to support this team, even as it struggles.

In the future, we respectfully ask that you show your support for the team in a positive, team building manner!

Thank you,

K and M

PS – after watching film you are correct, we need to run block better, create more push, and keep the QB clean – but did you see the last play before half when he had what 8 seconds!

Players don’t need to be talking about fans behavior especially when you’re playing as bad as they are. He needs to focus on getting better at his job and ignore everything else. Don’t have to agree with people but just ignore them. Fans can express their views however they like. Whether it’s criticism or praise they are at liberty to do so and obviously this guy doesn’t know that. Of course some fans go overboard BOTH WAYS but a smart guy doesn’t respond like these idiots. They respond by playing better.

Of course the players are going to stand up for the coach. And that’s what they should do. I mean people make a big deal out of Vick saying it’s not the coaches fault. When people have been slamming Andy for 10 years because he’s never publicly blamed any of his players and always said it’s his fault. Andy was probably the only one to believe in Vick when no one else would take a chance with him so duh. And Andy is Andy. Honestly, I don’t give a crap what any of these guys say in public. All I care about is what they do on the field.

navy…”In the future, we respectfully ask that you show your support for the team in a positive, team building manner!”..???

Members of the Phillies organization have attributed the pressure put upon them by the fans as a factor that inspired them to make the moves that lead them to the level of success that they have had over the past 7 years.

Being loyal and supportive are all characteristics that a fan should have towards his favorite team. But being blindly loyal and never questioning management will only lead to a team that never feels the pressure to succede, knowing that there fans will be there no matter what mistakes the team makes again and again.

Voicing displeasure with the team, a 1 – 4 team , is something that should not be a suprise to anyone in the organization. K & M may be wanting to get on the good sid of Big Red, but if things don’t turn around soon, they may soon be needing to get on the good side of another head coach.

navy, I think people can go overboard when it’s turn into delusion. And that’s for the good and bad. But I also think people also get it mixed up when they try to classify fans into groups. The same fans that are the most passionate and bleed their teams colors and may do the face painting, bareback in 20 degree weather are also some of the harshest critics. Not because they don’t like the team anymore but because they are hurting and different people react differently. So to me, I don’t think anyone is more of a fan because they agree with everything a team does. That’s silly in my book. Fans are different and have their own opinions. So I really don’t don’t care what others perceive as a “real” fan or whatever. That’s stupid talk. The only fans that are fake are the ones that root against the team. It’s one thing to say you think things won’t be good and it’s another thing to say you hope things won’t be good. And for the most part the ones that are overly critical don’t want it to be like it is, just stating what they think based on what they see. I mean if you feel something in your heart, you can’t just make your heart feel another way. The heart feels the way it feels. And for anyone to think someone else isn’t as much of a fan because they aren’t as positive is just as idiotic as someone rooting for failure.

scorpiodsu

October 13, 2011 6:13 pm

Exactly Stevo. They shouldn’t be concerned about fans signs. If they want the signs to change, then change your play on the field. Period. The fans have been here before these players and will be here when they are gone. So they need to concern themselves about their game because they aren’t sitting in the fans shoes who had to listen to Andy Reid for 12 years. He’s a rookie player that knows squat. Just win. That’s all that matters.

eagles, the fan who held up the signs has been around for a long time, the players can voice their opinion and ask them to take them down, but that is a public relations nightmare, shut your mouth, let your play save your coach if it can, it won’t, this team just has a way of burying itself with the fans, greenfan, excellent reference to how the phillies embrace their fans, as opposed to alienating them like the phillies do

really scorp – delusional – I mean isn’t that takin git a little too serious? Do you think there is any personthat follows the eagles now that does not realize the team is playing really bad and is 1-4 – if that criterai is met – a fan can not be delusional – and as far as fan – real fan – hey man – go to a dictionary and look up the word fan – and then llok at synonyms and antonyms – can’t spell tonight – you can’t change the definiton of words to fit what you want them to be – that’s delusional – and you can change whats in you rheart – or at least how you express it – what is the difference between – all of our linebackers suck and are the worst in the NFL and are ass – and – our linebackers need to play much better then they are – I think you are excusing people and saying it is OK to be rude, ignorant and misbehave under the guys of ’emotion and passion’ just like booing a cancer video becuase someone you like isn’t in it…

so we can agree to disagree – fair enough – i am going to be happily delusional and hope the birds turn it around this weekend – and our defense plays much better then it has the last 4 games –

The defense has made every possible mistake.. Starting in the offseason.. Signing Juan Castillo A rookie defensive coordinator at the same time bring in or 5 or 6 new starters and starting a rookie middle linebacker . its like they didnt even want to succeed.. Then when they finally start demoting guys they pick kurt coleman one of are best defensive players,,coleman missed one tackle nate allen misses 3 every game.. everything the eagles have done thus far on defense has been wrong.. except removing casey mathews..

Hello fellow Fans,

To everyone who believes the Redskins will win this weekend, surprise they will not. They will bow from the pressure and the desire for revenge. I actually watched that Rams game and sat with the Skins fans while watching the 49er game. The Skins fans are worried just like us. Mark me down we win this and the Redskins don’t recover. If I am wrong (unlikely) then I will be back here to proclaim my sheer innate foolishness and offer my humble applogies (Won’t need to). You guys heard what I said, lets just wait.

This team has great flaws, tremendous flaws you guys know what they are, but I watch alot of other games at the sports bar and I see alot of ugly going around. Skins loss regardless of some wishes. Mark it down.

This is not a wishful fan I have watched the Skins play every game this season, and I watched some skins fans argue over the Rams game while they were winning, they are proud of their team, but are more scared then we are about the season.

I am not in Philly now so I get a good feel of different fans from everywhere, people are still worried about us, they are waiting for the seal to be opened on the whoopa_ss (Don’t know if it will come). But other fans refuse to talk trash to us Eagle fans where we are because they are still worried.

Go EAGLES!!!!!! Skins Loss in good fashion (They want in too much and will pull an Eagles VS Vikings and loss). An DC will eat them alive and they will slide down the hole from then on.

Dcar – this shows how ridiculous this has gotten for some, including you – it’s ‘us fans versus the team’. The better sound stupid to you because you’re supposed to be a fan OF the team. Not a fan AGAINST the team. So you’re against the coach, and now you’re openly against the players too? Then what da hell ARE you a fan of besides hating, and you fantasy of a buddy ryan defense and perfection all around/power running game….

And free speech? Ok, so you’re saying that those two fans who put up the sign have free speech but Kelce and Mathis don’t? What da hell is that about? It’s not about free speech. Free speech refers to whether the government and law can penalize someone for ‘speech’ it’s not about a person asking someone to take a sign down – freedom (or lack there of) never entered the picture.

Garry’s point, (the headline) is one that was said a lot by others so nothing against him here, but it’s asinine. What Kelce and Mathis did has nothing to do with them focusing on football. They’re going to be exiting and entering the novacare complex parking lot regardless of how much they are ‘focusing on football’. OF COURSE THEY SHOULD FOCUS ON FOOTBALL. BUT WHEN THEY’RE DRIVING OUT OF THE PARKING LOT? FOR THOSE 3-4 MINUTES, YOU’RE TELLING ME THAT NOT THINKING ABOUT BLOCKING SCHEMES THEN WILL HURT THEIR IMPROVEMENT, DEVELOPMENT, AND PLAY?

As chris carter says on Mike and Mike in the morning — COME ON MAN!

I guess the only way some of you will admit Reid has to go, is if we lose every single game.

Many of you have mistaken stupidity for loyalty. The ship is sinking, but let’s all of us die together in unity. Absurd!!!!!!!

These are not sudden unforseen circumstances. Reid created these problems, by hiring Bozo the Clown as a defensive coordinator. Drafting a 80 year old in the 1st round and on, and on. Now he can’t man up and admit the mistake. And he’s taking everyone down with him.

That’s not a man. Man up and admit you made a mistake. There is still time to salvage the season. But his FAT, ARROGANT, REAR END WON’T!!

And you want the fans to just be loyal and let the season die?????

Reid is a spineless jellyfish who could not handle TO and that cost us maybe our best shot at a Superbowl.

Now there is no excuse. A team loaded with probowl players and they are 1-4.

13 years. He has had 13 years. That’s 3 times the amount of time most NFL coaches get. We are not being unfair. Andy has had plenty of time. He’s a peanut butter eater. A choke artist. He is not the real deal. A fat fake.

As for those 2 offensive linemen. Open up a store. Then tell all the customers that they better like the manager of the store. See how many sales you make. You income comes from the customer. In this cast the fan.

Which is short for fanatic. Get use to it. Booed Santa Clause, Cheered Mike Irvins injury and Fat Boy won’t be the last one to get a sign that says leave town.

As much it cost me to put myself and my son’s in those seats and purchase all the jerseys we have, I wish they would have “asked me to remove my sign”.

I would have said sure, get some win’s and I’ll remove it.

I would normally support a coach in normal circumstances but Reid have to go because of the decisions he makes which actually stunts the team growth.

I think he’s a good person and is loyal to his players and coaches yet lack the same loyalty to our fan base.

How in the will you make the failed offensive line coach our “D” coordinator?

He knew the MCDermott thing didn’t work yet replaced him someone who is even less qualified.

That’s a perfect example of disrespecting the fan base.

Get the best damn candidate out there with pedigree.

last year it was corner.

This year is safety and linebacker.

one year it’s recievers….no damn returners.

Remember Greg Lewis returning kicks and fumbling?

These decisions have all been on Reid.

We’ve had a bad offensive line for almost 5 years now.

Yes teams have weaknesses but Reid creat his weaknesses.

Teams do not let players go without an adequate replacement that’s equal or better already on the roster.

Superior Competition should be the defining factor of a player supplanting a proven Vet.

We shouldn’t let leaders go without better players to replace them on the Roster and hope a draft pick can fill his shoes.

This is all on Reid who can not get out of his own way.

So, I don’t support him and will be on board once he’s fired because I told you guys during the preseason that Matthews was ass…they still started him.

Andy likes to talk about putting the Pedal to the floor…Well my pedal is on the floor against this loser coach who does not understand Philly hardnosed football.

Getting rid of McDermott was a mistake, should have kept him and given him some players… His Defense played better than this unit and he had Hobbs/Paterson playing CB, no Jenkins,Babin…Coach AR needed a scapegoat and Mcdermott was the chosen one… After this Season, Castillo willbe the Scapegoat and 2012 will finally be Coach AR’s final Season.. This Franchise has been set back 3-4 Years with the Coaching Decisions and missed opportunites and stupid moves over the last 2 Drafts..
Eagles will have a new Defensive COah and scheme next year..
Taking a pek and next years Schedule the Eagles play the following DIvisions
AFC North – Steelers,Ravens,Browns, Bengals
NFC South – Saints,Falcons,TB Bucs, Panthers
and of course their 6 NFC East Rival games..

This will be 14 Tough games already and with a new D/Coordinator with probably new schemes and a miss-mash of players to have to learn it,
I see a 6-10 Record this season and a 5-11 Record in 2012.. WHy bother signing Vick to big deal or extending D-JAx.. This team is heading down fast

bsm, jake, and songs – see that’s the thing. When you three think “Philadelphia Eagles” right now – you’re thinking “reid has to go”. You’ve done an excellent job at communicating that and stating the support for you point. We’re all clear on that.

Others think, the team, the games, the record… you know all the other stuff.

Reid will not be fired before this season ends. If you disagree, tell me 1 reason you think he might get fired during this season. Otherwise, you stating your point over and over again and wanting others to state that they agree with you is futile. Guess what – water is wet. Humans gotta breathe. I can type that over and over again and it would be pointless. Same for you all saying “reid has to go” over and over. After the season, whether they end up 1-15 or with the lombardi or anything in between, THEN talk of firing Reid and/or potnentila replacements wiill be relevant. I for one would welcome a change and also be OK if he stayed.

But BSM for you to obsess over what is a mute point until February at the earliest, YOU’RE THE ONE MISSING THE POINT.

McDermott was no better. It was a familiar scheme for the players thats all, this one there usng now with this wide 9 appears to be simplier but its really not. More is asked of the Dline and LBs and it has a huge effect on the back end with the cbs and safeties… but the defense over in carolina looks pretty good and thats because you have two coaches that are defensive oriented you have the head coach who used to actually coach here in Ron Rivera and the obvious sean mcdermott, so that team is defense minded first before offense, and they will start to win some games soon… so andy should have equipped this team the necessary experienced teachers in this scheme, you have one guy in washburn who knows this wide9, in tennesse the entire coaching staff on defense knew it… (over confidence) thats what that is…Im not gonna say this team is “heading down fast” being that they do have alot of young impact players that i think will improve as we move along here… lets not throw the towel in guys hang in there…

Well it all comes down to this. Team meeting, getting behind the coach, taking responsibility for being a bad team. Will that translate to the field? The whole season will be determined this Sunday. This game is huge. If the Eagles lose, Andy will ultimately get fired. If they win, well the season could easily turn around completely. Here’s why: If the Eagles win, they not only get off the slide but they keep the Skins from seizing control of the division. With Dallas facing Patriots (30 straight regular season home wins for Tom Brady) and Giants facing Buffalo, the Skine could really have a comfortable lead at 4-1 with Giants 3-3 and Dallas 2-3 and us obviously finished. But if they fall to 3-2, it maintains total parity in the East and keeps the Eagles in the hunt. Now for all his flaws, Andy is still 12-0 off the bye. He even beat Indy last year, a team that destroyed us regularly. You have Dallas at home on Sunday Night Football and odds are you have to snap that five game home losing streak soon as well. Given that Dallas is getting loss number three this week, when we beat them that night, we will still be a dismal 3-4. However, psychologically we are no longer in last place. Then you have the struggling Bears (whom we owe by the way) and a bad Arizona team. 5-4 is a very legit possibility if we can just get it started this week.

SONGS….Herm Edwards is a lame haed coach. He will stick his foot in some asses for sure. And we need that. But he is an eternal 10-6 type of coach. Same as Buddy Ryan or Ray Rhoades. They can get you to the playoffs but never take you anywhere. But it will be “Philly” phootball! Oh yeah! Rough and tough and physical. F&%k philly phootball!!! I want championship football. I don’t care if they wear lipstick and eyeliner. Just win a GD Super Bowl. I could care less about what the people at Cottman and Frankford think is an appropriate style of football. They would love to see us be 10-6 forever as long as we intimidate and smash heads every Sunday. Buddy was a blast but I want to win a SB just once.

Jbird, I like your point about ‘win a superbowl regardless of the style’, but dude, the Packers were just 10-6 and won the superbowl. I know it’s secondary to your main point, but going 10-6 is not problematic at all. Your regular season record has little effect on whether you win the superbowl at all. See the pats 16-0 season….

Schill…you are absolutely right. If Ray Rhoades is not fired in the midst of going 3-13 and having his third straight losing season, They are not firing the winningest coach in Eagles history in such humiliating fashion. We will be lucky if they fire him at the end of the year. What is very likely to happen is that we start off 1-6 and then finish 8-8. And then the front office will say, “Well Andy had a rough start due to the lockout and so many new faces. But he turned it around.” Or they may be too cheap to pay Andy and Gruden too. Gruden will want to get paid. This job is about as desirable as the Presidency. The possibility for tremendous fame and glory but emotional hell if you fail. And I’m sure Andy makes a few dollars as GM/coach. And coaches contracts are guaranteed. That means they pay BOTH. Will they want to do that? Probably not. 1) They certainly don’t resent Andy and the decision to can him will be dificult enough and 2) they will have to fork out about ten million dollars for coaching next year, so 3) it would be easier to find an excuse to keep him until after 2012 season ends and then probably kick him upstairs. But I really don’t want him running the player personnel decisions because he is worse at that then he is at coaching. The man wouldn’t know defensive talent if it kicked him right in his fat ass.

Schill….my point was that Herm Edwards is not capable of getting you above a top ten team (like 6th-10th). Just because a team is 10-6 has nothing to do with their quality. We all knew GB was a top five team last year before the playoofs started regardless of their record and seed. See what I mean? He can’t build a team that could win a title. He just is not that sharp as a coach. He’s a pretty decent coach. SB champs have excellent/great coaches.

jbird – do you think Coughlin was is an excellent/great coach? Do you think Martz is? Grudden? Billick?

I would argue that some of the coaches who have won superbowls are not quite ‘exceelent/great’. They clearly did enough to get the trophy, but I think in the playoffs, a lot of it comes down to luck and just what occurs on the field. (see David Tyree’s catch).

GCobb has officially become an Anti – Eagles site…from the articles being posted by G Cobb himself, to whiney ass fans!

Some of you sound like you’ve had a silver spoon in your mouth all your lives…Like you’ve always gotten your way, and if you didn’t you’d whine about it until you did! Sound like a bunch of toddlers, throwing temper tantrums. You cats don’t deserve a SB – shit don’t even deserve a winning team and that is real talk! I was always told, you’ll see your real friends (in this case “real fans”) in the face of adversity.

You guys are not only blaming the coach, you’re blaming GM, President, Owner, Players….Pointing fingers at every single part of the Organization, why the hell even waste your time being an Eagle fan?

Plus I wonder how many of you actually watch the damn games?\at times he doesn’t call the best plays…But news flash!!! This just in!!!! Every coach in the NFL calls a play that simply does not work, every single game they coach!!!

Us losing has nothing to do with drop passes? turnovers? …penalties? do you blame the coach for Parker jumping off sides (we all know the coaches told every single player on the line not to move) coach can’t go on the field and hold his hand….Enough with this BS…

Eagles get a W this weekend…
Fly Eagles fly…on the road to Victory….
E – A – G – L – E – S = Eagles!
