Paul Daley of England (29-11-2) was triumphant in his return to the cage this weekend against fellow UFC Veteran, Luigi Fioravanti (22-11). Daley, best known for being fired from the UFC for sucker punching Josh Koshkeck after a fight at UFC 113, was coming off back-to-back losses against Nick Diaz & Tyron Woodley.
Fioravanti was in the same boat with back-to-back losses to lesser known opposition in Andrei Semenov & Joe Doerksen. Daley dominated the very game Fioravanti with an aggressive 3 round striking clinic. The former U.S. Marine tried to take the fight to the ground on several occasions but was thwarted by Daley’s stellar defense. The Englishman’s performance earned him a shutout unanimous decision victory over 3 rounds (30-27×3).
After fighting 6 times in 10 months I expect Daley to take some well deserved time off. This victory will ensure he is a very sought after Free Agent. I can not help to think the promotion who has the most to gain from Daley, Bellator, to try to secure him on their growing roster. Bellator should be able to provide financial security to Daley as they do for hot MMA commodities Eddie Alvarez & Hector Lombard.
