For Second Game In Row, Castillo Passes With Flying Colors

After years of being a great offensive line coach the obvious choice is to go straight to defensive coordinator. This was the path new Eagles Defensive Coordinator, Juan Castillo, under went this season. He has been highly scrutinized for his poor calling but last nights Cowboys game was the coming out party for Juan; he called a masterful game from start to finish. The idea of moving Nnamdi around the field like the Steelers move Polamalu around was a great idea and shows he is willing to try different and innovative things.

After a bye week, especially with Andy Reid as the Head Coach, Juan better had been prepared for this game. Juan still needs to gain trust in his 3 great corners and let them play straight man sometimes and run blitz some more because they are getting gashed with big runs all to often; if it was not for the offensive performance, Demarco Murray would have had a similar game to Shady. Although the ‘wide nine’ approach for the defensive ends is a good idea against the pass with the Eagles poor linebacker play it is a highly questionable move to continue doing that and putting more pressure on a young inexperienced group of linebackers. Juan needs to blitz a little bit more just to keep the offense on edge.

The reason we now know that Juan is going to be a quality Defensive Coordinator is because of the 4th and goal play in the 4th Quarter of the game. First, on third and goal he had Nnamdi one on one with Dez on a fade which was played perfectly, and on the very next play they gave the same look but he had a safety drop back into coverage stopping the slant by Dez that Romo wanted to throw and that caused a sack by Babin.

Statistically, Juan called a great game as well, allowing only 267 total yards and 3-10 on third down conversions. Four Sacks were recorded; two by Babin, one by Laws, and the other by Cole. Nnamdi also recorded an INT
Juan is improving every week and this week’s performance was by far his best; hopefully he will continue to improve as the Eagles play the Bears next week on Monday Night Football

Oh yes he will my friend. This is only the beginning of the ride. We are witnessing the beginning of a dominant streak.. This team will began to make teams look foolish out there, similar to what we saw today. Because not only are the coaches improving but the players got it. Theyre making the neccesary plays now. Guys arent out of position on defense, guys are paying close attention to detail.. Seeing Nnamdi lined up on Dez was amazing, i was standing up glued to the tv waiting to see what happens and just like i thought Nnamdi Asomugha was not going to be denied, he shut dez down, yeah he got away with a little hold of the arm but dez didnt have a chance in the first place against him, if you wanna see a shutdown corner look at these guys. 1.Nnamdi 2. Revis 3. Woodson 4. Champ Bailey… Give asante credit too. he was playing alot of man 2 man defense pressing guess at the line, we just bullied the cowboys, something i did expect but not all the way to this caliber… But like i said i see the swagger developing for this team and mark my words were going to see them start really embarassing teams now… The bears dont have a chance on monday… I ll give a score as the week progresses but this eagles team is hungry. Yes they still gotta improve, one thing being there tacking but this team has that desire to be great, thats all Nnamdi talks about the team striving for greatness and winning it all and after this blowout victory i feel and have felt from the start that theyre on there way to doing some big things…

It was one win. Don’t anoint them the SB just yet. Let’s get to 500 first. Let’s not get carried away. They still have much work to do with this team. Celebrate a great win, but let’s not get too chunked up.

One thing I did not like was the long TD given up by Coleman. I know he had a good game vs. Redskins, but why is he on the outside covering the WR? Where is DRC?

Pcrow – what game were you watching? The only TD I saw them give up was a blown risk by Asante….

schill – didn’t you know its the guy closest to the ball that blew it –

Wow – praise for Castillo – both as an O Line caoch and a DC – and there are not 59 blurbs asking for tacos, tortillas or nachos……………….

wow – The reason we now know that Juan is going to be a quality Defensive Coordinator is because of the 4th and goal play in the 4th Quarter of the game. – what a quote – Castillo has shown progress and is getting better –

navy and pcrow – I must have not seen Coleman. I thought that was just Asante gambling trying to cut off the slant and ignoring the go…

That’s what I get for watching the game with a bunch of nuckleheads instead of in peace where I could concentratre.

Yeah – looked like Coleman had deep half in a cover two and bit on a semi-pump – Romo made a very nice throw to get it over him

It’s actually quite pleasant around here with the Dallas Cowgirl fans hiding under a rock somewhere along the Schuylkill. LOL.

It looked like a blown Cover 2 assignment I believe..
Samuel covers the WR for about the first 10-12 yards and then stays at that depth to cover the zone while Safety Coleman is to pick-up the WR who continues to run deep.. Coleman was never that close and took a poor angle on the ball… In Hindsight with a big lead like that, Samuel probably should have stayed and ran with hi mgiving up a short/intermediate zone but I believe it was Coleman who just plain got there too late and missed the assignment..

Does this make you look at Dallas as a true pretender?Point being,if we got our hats handed to us like that gaisnt a div. foe,we would say our season is suspect.Even the most optimistic fan would have to say it.The Dallas secondary looked way overmatched.Yeah thats easy against a top flight complete receiving corps. But come on,make a play. Newman seems old,Jenkins is ok right now(he can play much better) but do there safetys do anything? Buddy Lee got stiff armed in his face by Shady..then got hurt. Everyone else on there D cept Ware got reach blocked/pinned and all types of other blocking techniques. They were out schemed a bit. But Dallas is off my radar.

Beat Bears and tax Cards for Giants tune up. The Cards have no defense. The Ravens just took a while to wake up.Helps that we got our swagger back at home.Nmandi is an AllPro ready to start showing why hes as good as Revis. So get too 5-4 and bring on the G-Men…anything else is unnaceptable.

I thought going into this game that whoever loses would not be a playoff team and I am sticking to it..
I will also say the same thing about next weeks Game with Eagles (3-4) vs the Bears (4-3) and whoever losses that game probably won’t make the Playoffs..
It will probably be the same scenario for the rest of the Season the Giants have some tought games coming up but Eagles need to take care of business first and worry about the Giants when they play them again in a few weeks.. Eagles will get a rested Bear Team comign off their Bye week and it will be good to play them at the Linc since it seems Eagles have been playing them at Soldier Field the last few Seasons…
