DeSean Bringing Some Attitude To This Offense Is A Good Thing

DeSean Jackson has been receiving a lot of criticism this week for his taunting penalty on Sunday Night at MetLife Stadium in the Meadowlands and while some of it is deserved because it cost the Eagles a big play, it doesn’t change my outlook on the big play wide receiver. I see nothing wrong with having a fired up, pompous wide receiver on this team especially when it can be backed up by the big play ability.

Last time I checked, some of the greatest wide receivers in the past decade have had the same attitude. T.O, Randy Moss, Chad Ocho Cinco are three of the most prominent receivers to play in the past decade and although neither of them have been on a Superbowl winning team, they’ve been able to walk the walk and talk the talk. You can’t deny each of these guys along with Jackson has big play ability and the stats to back up the smack talk they bring to the field.

Josh Scobee kicker for the Jaguars called Jackson a punk via Twitter and the diminutive wide out responded with,“This man @joshscobee is Waaaaaaay outta Line!! Stick to ya own business..Mind ya own!! I don’t respect what you saying..Lil Boi status…Plus I don’t even know who this guy is!!”

I don’t condone Twitter wars with athletes and I think it’s a waste of time for these guys to even engage in any social media activity during the season because they should be focused solely on the game but in this case Jackson stood up for himself and I applaud him. Josh Scobee is a kicker which basically means you’re a nobody in the NFL. For him to make a statement like that on twitter takes a lot of courage and stupidity.

We’ve seen two different offenses the past two weeks. The Jackson-less offense against Arizona and the motivated-Jackson against the Giants and it’s very obvious this offense is a different animal when you have a happy DeSean Jackson on the field. Not only was the offense flat out awful against Arizona without Number 10 but it was downright boring to watch.

LeSean McCoy and Michael Vick are exciting players but they don’t possess the fire and personality Jackson has. Part of being a football team is having a personality and attracting people to the game.   Jackson is a polarizing figure that can do that. Let’s face it when he’s back to return a punt whatever you’re doing at that moment you stop and take a look at the T.V. because something special may happen. Football teams need a figure like this on the field. I support Jackson and his “showboating” as some would call it because he can back it up.

Jackson will get paid one way or another and if it’s not with the Eagles, it will be with another team hopefully outside the division. We don’t know how much Jackson is demanding from the Eagles but based on the last two games the Eagles should do what it takes to make him happy because it’s clear this offense isn’t the same when he’s not in the lineup.

If Jackson finishes the season strong and continues the play he had against the Giants on Sunday night I expect the Eagles to make him happy because it’s clear a happy DeSean makes a world of a difference with this offense. The Eagles front office had a taste of what this offense can be like without Jackson against Arizona and it’s clear it’s a boring, awful offense to watch.

They owe it to him to make him happy as long as he isn’t asking for an out of this world number for his next contract. DeSean is a home grown player and for those out there saying this situation looks eerily similar to the T.O situation it is except for one difference. T.O was not home grown and he started whining about his contract after only one season with the Eagles. DeSean has played the good soldier role and is a draft pick of this team. They owe it to him to offer him a rewarding contract.

This team needs Jackson not only for the big play making ability but also for the sheer fact that this offense has an edge and a toughness about them with him on the field. A guy that can get under the skin of a defense and backup his attitude is a great thing to have and not every team has it. I see nothing wrong with some fire and showboating as long as the play to back it up is there. Let’s embrace DeSean and his attitude as long as he doesn’t cost us any more penalties because of it.

Going forward,  I want DeSean Jackson on board.

Great Article, i fully believe he makes a huge difference for this team, he completely opens up the field for everyone else. I also believe this taunting penalty is being completely blow out of proportion because everyone celebrates, example after someone gets a sack they go crazy and do all these crazy dances, let them play and have fun…Desean is a great Eagle, lets keep it that way for years to come Eagles front office…

What a joke. Good thing you mentioned the 3 biggest diva WRs of all time in Moss, Owens and Ocho. BTW, how SBs have those guys won?

Zero. Can’t win with those guys. Desean is a talent, but he is a punk. The disease is infectious. Right now its bad enough that both he and Vick have the disease.

People celebrate, they don’t throw the ball at other teams coaches. Can’t win with them.

Your right Vinnie, we should get rid of Vick, and Demean. We would be much better off. Let’s start Kafka and Riley Cooper. YAWN!!

Good, now that he has ramped up the attitude, let’s see if he can’t ramp up the touchdown scoring a bit as well. I’d like to see the Eagles keep him as well, but at the appropriate numbers. Look at the albatross that is now the Vick contract.

Yeah i do not know if I would mention desean in the same breath as those other receivers. He is like a baseball slugger who strikes out too much.Yes he is capable of the big play but he can disappear for 2-3 games in a row.He catches the short passes and just falls down right away when he is going to get hit because he is too small. Also yes there is nothing wrong with celebrating a good play but not at the expense of your team.Be a man and act like you have been there before.
