Juan Castillo, the defensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles and his defensive unit, came into Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots hoping to continue to ride the success they had the week before against their division rival the New York Giants.
It did look good early as the Eagles jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead and the defense was aggressive and was putting heavy pressure on Tom Brady. The thing is, in the NFL it is a sixty-minute game. The Patriots and Brady adjusted and torched the Eagles, 38-20.
The Philadelphia Eagles came into Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots with some confidence after they just beat up their divisional rival the week before. The defense of the Eagles dominated the Giants. Castillo had a good game plan and Eagles fans hoped for another good performance by the Eagles defense against the New England Patriots. Things looked good early for the Eagles defense.
The Birds defense came out early pressuring Brady and knocking him done. Mike Patterson sacked him by beating his man and coming up the middle. Cullen Jenkins popped him and made the Pro Bowl quarterback throw the ball away.
It appeared that the Eagles had a good defensive game plan. It takes sixty-minutes long to win not two series in the NFL. Brady and the Patriots changed the speed of the game and went to their no-huddle attack with number 12 running things on the field.
The Eagles defensive line which had been getting hits on Brady started to tire out and the New England quarterback started to look like a surgeon at work. He just cut apart the Eagles defense. Castillo started having trouble with substitutions. He and Jim Washburn weren’t able to keep the defensive line fresh.
The Patriots started to move the ball up and down the field with ease. The Eagles defensive line ran out of gas and stopped pressuring Brady, as their Eagles assistant coaches fought and argued with each other on the sidelines. The Birds paid for not being prepared for the no-huddle attack. The Patriots offense totally dominated the Eagles defense until Brady was taken out of the game at the beginning of the fourth quarter.
Castillo again just looked like he was overmatched and had no clue what was going on. The Eagles defense started to look like it has all season long. They were out of position, receivers wide open, and big plays were happening. The Eagles defensive coordinator and his defense were just cut apart by one of the best surgeons in the NFL, future Hall of Famer, Brady. It looked so easy for the Patriots quarterback during the game and he just cut apart the Eagles defensive unit.
The battle between Castillo and Brady was very one sided because the Eagles had no adjustments for the no-huddle. You could say at points if this was a boxing event, the white towel would have been thrown in. The defense looked like they gave up and wanted no more. It is said that your team is the character of your coach. Well the Philadelphia Eagles defense is that.
The defense is clueless, out of position, and has no heart. Castillo is overmatched and it totally showed against Brady and company. This was no battle this just proved that the guy running the Eagles defense is overmatched and has to go.
It’s sad when a special teamer (reserve WR) makes more plays on defense than our very special Nate Allen………
And how does this come as a surprise!!?? The move was brilliant. Make your O-line coach, your D-coordinator. Brilliant!!!
