Sixers Did What They Should Have Done To The Suns

I decided to go out and play NBA 2K the other night to use it as a scouting report for the next Sixers up coming opponent. One problem with that is that I get blown out every single game I play. Well, so much for that idea. Man, if I was only still 20 years old and in college. I would play Madden and NBA Live all day instead of doing home work. Those were the days.

Okay, on to the Sixers/Suns game. The Sixers came out aggressive and with a ton of energy. They took it to the Suns all night long. The Sixers won this game easily with a 103-83 victory. The Suns are not the same team as we grown accustomed to. The Suns just don’t have that much fire-power anymore.

Gone are the likes of Amare Stoudemire, Vince Carter, Boris Diaw, Shawn Marion and Quentin Richardson. They are replaced by the likes of Channing Frye, Shannon Brown, Robin Lopez and Hakim Warrick.  That roster reminds me off that mid-90’s Sixers roster until A.I arrived. Sharone Wright leading the way!  The Sixers did what they were supposed to do with a team like this just flat out run them off the court.  Here are some of the things that I noticed during the game…

SIXERS

– I am still not crazy about Andre Iguodala taking the last shot of a close game but “Iggy’ is playing at a high level right now even if it is only the first two games. He finished with 15 points 4 rebounds 6 assists and 4 steals. He sat out the entire fourth quarter.

– Is it me or does Elton Brand not look right? I know it is just two games in but he is looking very old right now.

– I loved watching Evan Turner posting up during the game. His mid-range game looked very solid. He finished with 12 points and 7 rebounds and shot 6-9 from the field in 29 minutes. I would like to see the ball in his hands more though.

– The Sixers held the Suns to 32 percent from the field during the first half. They held them to 41 percent for the game.

– The Sixers opened up with a 17-0 run in the third quarter. The Suns did not score a single point until the 5:47 mark in the third. Man, I actually thought that the Sixers could hold them to zero points in the third the way the Suns were playing.

-How about the “Rook” last night? I thought Vucevic handled himself pretty well out their for his NBA debut. He seems to have a pretty decent basketball IQ. He had 6 points 6 rebounds and 2 assists in 20 minutes.

-Man, I swear if Thad could ever knock down that jumper of his. I love the way he just attacks the rim though.

The bottom line is that the Sixers did what they needed to do against a bad team.

Jrue Holiday did end up having a knee contusion from the game. He showed no ill-effects from it during the game though. He actually played better as the game went on. He did practice today

SUNS

– Man, it is sad to see Nash on a team like this. They have no chance of winning a title any time soon even with him there. Though Nash does not look like the same player anymore. He did very little out their. In the 17 minutes he played he shot 2-11 from the field and ended up with 4 points and only 1 assist. Could he be done?

– Channing Frye is the starting power forward for the Suns. Man that sucks. Frye can knock a shot or 2 but as your starting power forward? Not going to work. He played only 13 minutes and finished with 2points and 8 rebounds.

– Maybe Hakim Warrick should take over for Frye. Warrick to me seemed to be the Suns best player. He is not much of a re-bounder for that position but atleast he can score. Plus he is from Philly so you know his game is not soft.

-Markieff Morris the Philly native actually looked like he had some game in him. That was about the only guy from the Suns that caught my eye other than Warrick. Of course it is two Philly guys that I like from the Suns. What?!

– The Suns just have a roster full of role players. There big signing in the off-season was Shannon Brown. He looked better out in “Lakers land” where he had more talent around him. It is funny when you see a player on a good team and you say to yourself “Man, that kid is nice.” The he goes to a different team and looks the complete opposite. Yup, that is Shannon Brown.

– Did anybody else hear the boo’s out their in Phoenix? Wait, I thought only Philly fans boo their players.

– What happen to the Suns mascot the Gorilla? He used to be awesome.

Here is the complete recap of the Sixers/Suns game .

EWWW! Sharone Wright! I just threw up in my mouth! Phoenix sucks. They are old & devoid of talent.

Agree the win was nice. The sixers are in excellent hands with a coach like Collins. Just as I’m not going to annoit my favorite team as the team to beat, it is way to early to access another team’s strengths and weaknesses as well. Not after to games.

My sleeper team in the East is in the Indiana PAcers
Check out their Feront Line (It may be the best in the Eastern COnfernce) with a blend of Size, Rebounding,Shot Blocking, Toughness and Shooting ability when you combine the skills of Center Roy Hibbert, PF David West & Tyler Hansbrough and SF Danny Granger.. and the best thing is these guys are hard workers with little or no egos…Watch this team fly under the radar and if they get solid Guard play from youngsters Darren Collison, AJ Wright and sharp shooter 6th man George Hill, this team will make some noise come playoff time..

Bad loss to the Utah Jazz tonight 102-99 after being up the 1st half//
If the Sixers want to take the next step, they need to beat these type of teams whether it’s home or on the road…
