Will Sunday be the last time we see DeSean in Eagles Green?

Although Sunday’s division matchup against the Redskins has no meaning for either team it could be the last time we see DeSean Jackson in an Eagles uniform. The high flying 4th year receiver out of the University of California has been the target of speculation throughout the year thanks to an on-going contract dispute with the front office.

After all that went down this season between Jackson and the Eagles we’re all still asking the same question we had back in training camp; will DeSean be back in Eagle green in 2012?

Coming into the finale on Sunday DeSean has 54 receptions for 875 yards and 3 touchdowns. Unless he explodes with at least a 125 yard game on Sunday it appears he’ll finish below a thousand yards receiving for the first time since his rookie campaign in 2008 when he finished with 912 yards.

It isn’t an impossible task as we’ve seen DeSean explode against the Redskins before and being the game has no meaning Andy Reid may be willing to take risks down field more than usual. Through everything DeSean has gone through in 2011 it’s impressive he’s in the position to even break 1,000 yards with a big finale.

DeSean had a tumultuous month of November where he was deactivated for a key game against Arizona and struggled mightily in a game against New England. If DeSean plays in the game against Arizona it could have been the difference between this team playing for something instead of nothing this week. His presence alone on that afternoon could have opened up opportunities for others on the offense against a weak Cardinal defense.

Regardless when DeSean was back in the lineup against New England he had trouble making catches over the middle of the field and shied away from making a catch in the end-zone. But through it all DeSean was able to maintain focus and finish with a solid December. As of late he hasn’t been a distraction and has been showing signs of life when it comes to catching balls over the middle of the field unlike earlier in the season.

Although DeSean’s production has been down in 2011 he still has been a productive, game breaking receiver over the past few seasons. He’s a home run threat and can change the outcome of a game at any moment. He also has the ability to open the field up for other offensive weapons such as Jeremy Maclin, LeSean McCoy, and Brent Celek. The short passing game and running game work a lot better when teams have to worry about covering DeSean down field.

Is Jackson in the same category as Calvin Johnson or Larry Fitzgerald? Absolutely not, but he provides value to this Eagles offense and can help them win.

The Eagles had the opportunity to avoid all of the nonsense by offering a contract earlier in the year however that didn’t happen. DeSean isn’t the biggest guy but he is the fastest and in the NFL speed kills at the WR position.

Sure he has a swagger about himself but as I’ve said before that isn’t a bad thing for this team to have because for the most part they lacked a cockiness and toughness about them this season and could have used more of it. Since entering the league in 2008 Jackson ranks 10th in the NFL in receiving yards. If the Eagles do in fact let DeSean walk after Sunday I have a few questions that need to be answered immediately by Andy Reid.

How do you plan to replace 4,000 receiving yards over 4 seasons, 29 touchdowns, 12 touchdowns of 60 yards or more in the past 4 seasons, double coverages drawn downfield that open up the middle for Celek, Avant Maclin, and open space for LeSean McCoy to run? Im not so sure one player on the market or draft can immediately replace all of those aspects of the offense that DeSean is a key ingredient for in order to succeed.

I’m not blind to the fact that DeSean had a down season in 2011. He absolutely could have stepped up his game earlier in the season but you can see the contract was something bothering him from day 1. He saw everyone else around him getting paid and questioned why not him and it’s a question that was valid to be asked by number 10.
The bottom line is the season is now finished and the Eagles need to make a decision on DeSean. DeSean has clearly stated he wants to return to the Eagles for 2012.

DeSean said recently about returning “Hopefully I will be. I consider Philadelphia my home, and the fans have embraced me and things like that. I have a job to do, which is to play out my contract, and with there being one game left, I felt I had to plan for this, so we’ll just figure out where it goes.”

Since DeSean is ranked 10th in the NFL in receiving yards since he entered the league in 2008 it makes total sense for the Eagles to make him an offer that makes him the 10th highest paid receiver in the league. Offering 9-10 million per year for 4 or 5 years if you do go long term is fair value. He’s still young and can earn even more money by playing lights out over the life of his next contract. If that can’t be done use the franchise tag on him and pay him for 1 more season and see how he bounces back from his awful 2011 before committing long term. If he refuses to accept any offer than move on and explore other options but the Eagles need to at least make a fair offer.

It’s still up in the air if any of this will happen. I’ll hold out hope that the Eagles do the right thing and work out a deal because we saw what this offense looks like without DeSean on the field against Arizona and it was quite boring and stoppable. If you bring back Andy Reid and the rest of the crew to finish what was started in 2011 you need to be fair and bring back number 10 because he’s a key member of this regime.

As much as I want the Eagles to bring him back I don’t see it happening. The Birds haven’t shown any indications of making even the slightest effort to bring DeSean back for 2012 which leads me to believe they’ve already started making plans to move on without him next season. Hopefully they plan to spend on another free agent wide receiver such as Marques Colston or Vincent Jackson because Jeremy Maclin can’t carry the wide receiving core on his own. Either way DeSean fans need to enjoy Sunday because it very well could be the last time we see him in Eagle green.

I hope so. Desean is the kind of kid that is always going to think he is under paid no matter how much money he makes. He over values his talent and skill set and he has an agent that only agitates that problem. Therefore, if this season is any indication, he will never give you 100% because in his mind he is always being under paid.
You can look at one detail that pretty much shows you his commitment to his craft. The guy came into the league weighing about 170 lbs. And despite the fact that he has access to a trainer that many of would kill to have train us (A guy that makes six figures just to tell you how to achieve the results you want), he has failed to increase that weight to be more equipped to handle the punnishment NFL defenders dish out. You can’t tell me that Desean would all of the sudden only run a 4.5 if he was 190. But he is not willing to put in the sweat, pain and discipline it would take to get to 190. And thats really not that hard to gain that kind of muscle. He could have done it in less than two years without killing himself. But he hasn’t.
His ego is huge and his dedication is questionable to say the least.
Does he stretch the field with his exceptional speed? Yes. But there are other fast guys available to do that. Do they run 4.2? No but 4.4 is just fine for what we need them to do. Guys that are bigger, stronger, tougher and more dedicated, with better hands and a greater sense of teamwork and a lesser sense of ego.

i thought by mid-season that d=Jax was 100% a goner.. now I am not so sure as he and the entire team have played much better ball over the last month of the Season.. I think they will offer him a 3 Year Deal in the are of $30 Million (with $6-$8 Million in Bonus $$$ over the life of the Contract) I think the ball will be in his court and I am not so sure he and his agent will accept this where they probably want a longer deal.. If D-Jax doesn;t accept, the Eagles will not waste time and enevery by Franchising him, they will simply let him walk.. Placing a Franchise Tag with the intent to trade rarely ever happens for too many things have to fall in place and the risk of Franchising a player is that now that player and their agent have little motivation to bargain since they would be guaranteed a High Salary (albeit for 1 season and then could be a free-agent again)
Eagles Front Office/Coach Ar must come together quickly after the Season and decide on what to do with WR D-Jax and CB A Samuel.. If they want them , then go out and get the deals made so their is no doublt about the Team and players intentions, if the Eagles decide they don’t fit into their future plans, then do what you haev to do and release/trade or come out and state that you are moving on.. You cannot as an organization have the cloud of indecision hanging over the team with both of these players all off-season, decide on a game plan and go with it (Personally. I would prefer both of them gone, but that’s just me, but wouldn’t be upset if both are back either, but don’t jerk them or the fans around, have a well thought out game plan and execute it… )

Not to change the Subject, but a couple of good College Bowl Games to check out today/tonight that could impact the Eagles and especially if the Decsion is to let D-JAx go, then the Eagles have to plan on replacing him

Florida State vs Notre Dame at 5pm then and Washington vs Baylor 8pm

Here are a list of players that are Ranked in the Top #100 NFL Prospects from these teams that could find their way in Silver & Green next Season

#1) QB – Robert Griffin III – Baylor 6-2 220 lbs (Probably a Top 5 pick)
#2) WR – Michael Floyd – Notre Dame 6-3 225 lbs (A 10th-15th selection)
#3) WR – Kendall Wright – Baylor 5-10 190lbs (Mid to late 1st Round and another speedster and return man with 4.4 Speed could be perfect replacement for D-Jax)
#4) OT – Z Sanders – Florida State 6-5 310 lbs (Early 2nd Round Pick)
#5) OLB/DE – B Jenkins – Fla State 6-3 265 lbs (Mid 2nd Rounder)
#6) RB – Chris Polk – Washington 5-11 225 lbs (Mid-Late 2nd Rounder)
#7) DT – A Ta’amu – Washington 6-3 330 lbs (Early-Mid 3rd Rounder)
#8) OT – A Datko – Florida State 6-6 320lbs (Mid-Late 3rd Rounder)

Paulman…..Assante is under contract so there is no urgency. I just told a buddy that you will know by the SB or a couple weeks after what they are doing with Desean because they are not going to sign him in March when they need to concentrate on other FAs. I think they will make a much lower offer than what you are stating and then he will walk on March 2nd. Assante on the other hand is tricky. Who will trade for his $9.5M salary unless he is willing to renegotiate the deal? No one. Unless they desperately need a CB, teams will wait for the Eagles to release him. At his age and salary, the most even a desperate team will give you is a fifth round pick. We WILL NOT pay him $9.5M next year so he will have to renegotiate with us if he wants to stay here as well. So he and his agent already know he is not getting $9.5M anywhere next year. So he might as well prepare for his pay cut now. He’s looking at maybe six tops. If we just waive him that will cover Shady’s extension. Then we will take the $30M for Jackson you are talking about in theory and use that to sign a FA like Robert Meachem AND redo Maclin’s deal. Maclin’s season was an absolute blessing because I saw him having about 85 catches and 12-14 TDs before lockouts, health scares and injuries delayed his breakout party. So now we can save about $4M a year on his deal with just cause because his agent can’t justify $10M like he could if he had the year I thought he was going to at the end of last season. And the good news is that Maclin wants to be good and WIN GAMES as much as he wants to get paid (which is more and more rare these days), so he will still put in the work for less money than he was hoping for. Or he may decline and say, “let me show you and we will talk next winter.” He is not wired at all in the same way as Desean. He’s not going to want to break the bank when he knows it is unreasonable and he will not be afraid to prove his worth by worrying about getting hurt. He’s not all about ME. That’s how I see this anyway. Your thoughts?

Do we really need adress keeping our skilled people on the offense? We’ve lived through the thrash era,and crying for wide receivers that can run faster then Andy to grab his post game cheeseburger. Why didn’t management understand part of DJAX makeup is what makes him special? He’s an athlete filled with hubris, who is faster and attracts more defensive attention then many other receivers .We know Andy and Drew Rosenhaus Dont dine together ,however it’s business and not pandering to Desean and Drew was a calculated fiscal decision that as a result of the drop off and suspensions clearly was I’ll conceived. So don’t kick number 10 and show him the door,as fans demand that we pay our Eagles that produce, after all, wasn’t this same dude 45% of last years offense? Ask NY Giant fans how they’d feel if Desean went elsewhere….times yours …..Steve Smith ex Giant was paid ? How’d that decision to pay him bs Making Jax content work out?

And for the people who say “Replace Desean Jackson with Robert Meachem??? Are you serious?!?!?!?” I’m very serious. Anyone who knows Meachem’s game knows he can catch 60+ passes in this offense. They also know he can average over 15 yards per catch. They also know that he has more RZ TDs this year than D Jack has in his career. So he can get you 6-10 TDs. Any of these numbers look familiar???? Of course they do. These are numbers that replace Jackson’s production. I don’t want to hear the intangibles about safeties lining up in Egypt that opens up the rest of the field. That’s countered by the selfishness and ME attitude brought to the locker room and the sidelines if you want to discuss intangibles.

Kevin Kolb expected to miss finale

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on December 29, 2011, 8:49 AM EST

Kevin Kolb hasn’t just struggled in his first year in Arizona; he hasn’t been available.

Kolb is expected to miss his second straight start because of post-concussion symptoms. This is his second concussion in as many years, although this one has taken longer to recover from.

“[The trainer] thinks with some rest and getting away from the game a little bit, probably within two to three weeks, I’ll feel a lot better,” Kolb said on Wednesday via Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic.

It looks like John Skelton will start for the seventh time this season against the Seahawks in the NFC West’s Second Place Bowl on Sunday.

Kolb has only appeared in two games with a total of 26 pass attempts since October because of a toe injury and now this concussion. He has to play better next year to stick in Arizona. He also has to play more.

drummer – you’re really trying to make a point about a player’s skill by posting an article that states he’s been injured a lot? That’s pretty darn stupid. Manning is injured for this season too – does he suck?

A couple of WR Targets in Free-agency to Target if D-Jax moves on…

#1) WR Robert Meachem – Saints (6-2 215 lbs) Has the down field Speed (Colston is more of a Slot WR and not a deep threat, Meachem will be a lot cheaper than Colston who I see re-signing with the Saints to stay with Brees)
#2) WR D Bowe – KC Chiefs (6-2 220 lbs) Size and speed who has put up consistent #’s and production over the last few seasons, hard to imagine the Chiefs letting him go…
#3) WR Steve Johnson – Bills (6-2 210lbs) Size and Speed who has deceptive downfield speed and has had 2 good back to back Seasons and wants out of Buffalo.. He’s from San Francisco and can easily see the 49ers going after him
#4) WR Vince Jackson – SD Chargers (6-5 230lbs) Huge target who has had some off the field issues, he’s from Colorado and will command huge $$$.
#5) WR Reggie Wayne – Colts ( 6-0 200lbs) 11 Year Vet who is still in good shape and has the speed to be a deep threat.. I don’t believe he’s an everydown WR any longer and may not get the big $$$ Offers that he feels he deserves..

A few Top WR names to look out for in the Draft that will be selected in the first 4 Rounds or so…

#1) Justin Blackmon – Oklahoma St 6-1 215 lbs 4.54 Speed
#2) M Floyd – Notre Dame 6-3 225lbs – 4.55 Speed
#3) K Wright – Baylor 5-10 190lbs – 4.42 Speed
#4) Mohammed Sanu – Rutgers 6-2 215lbs 4.57 Speed
#5) Alshon Jeffrey – South Carolina 6-4 230lbs 4.56 Speed
#6) Reuben Randle – LSU 6-3 210lbs 4.57 Speed
#7) Nick Toon – Wisconsin 6-2 220 lbs 4.52 Speed (is the Son of Al Toon)
#8) Brian Quick – Appalachian St 6-4 216 lbs 4.6 Speed
#9) Dwight Jones – UNC 6-4 225 lbs 4.5 Speed
#10) Jarius Wright – Arkansas 5-10 180lbs 4.34 Speed
#11) Joe Adams – Arkansas 5-11 190lbs 4.38 Speed (and a Return man)
#12) BJ Cunnningham – Mich State 6-2 215lbs 4.59 Speed

I am very disheartened by the total dearth of 4-3 OLBs available in FA. There is NOTHING out there. Maybe someone in the AFC who runs a 4-3 and needs a corner might want to trade for Samuel. Obviuosly he wouldn’t be someone great. Think Nate Wayne/Takeo Spikes. But that is better than our current options at SAM. Chaney already proved that he cannot or doesn’t want to play that position. I think its both. I don’t think Mathews would be an upgrade from Jordan/Fokou either. Clayton just flat out can’t play LB in the NFL. He’s a ST’er. Rolle is fine at WILL with a full off-season to improve. MLB is looking like Chaney again unless they want to roll the dice with Larry Grant or Vontaze Burfect. I think either is better than Chaney.

To Jbird,
I know CB A Samuel is under Contract for 2 more Seasons, but his Contract was back loaded with big bucks and he’s due to earn $9.5 Million Salary in 2012 and $10.5 Million in Salary for 2013 which is the Eagles are not going to want to pay for a 31 Year Old aging CB who has missed 2-3 games in each of the last couple of Seasons.. I believe that the Eagles really feel DCR is the future at CB along with Asmo where both specialize in Man-to Man coverage which the Secondary will switch to once Samuel is gone (Samuel is a Zone Coverage CB and not as effective in Man to Man) ..
So with Samuel, the Eagles have 4 Choices
#1) Do nothing and pay Samuel $20 Million over the next 2 Seasons and try to figure out what to do with DCR (we know that this didn’t work too well)
#2) Try to Restructure Samuels Deal (very unlikely that he would agree to)
#3) Try to Trade Samuel and get a decent Draft Pick or 2 in Return.(His Contract/Salary #’s will make it very difficult to trade him)
#4) Release him, save the $$$ and let him walk and become a Free-Agent
(this is most likely scenario in my opinion,,, Samuel will sign with Cowboys,Panthers or Tampa Bay Bucs who all need CB help and will be willing to overpay for him but probably not willing to trade Eagles Draft Picks in return since they know he will be released and on the makret as a free-agent)

Samuel and d-JAx are still very good players, but they are also diva’s and temperamental and can be distractions in the locker room.. If the EAgles decide their future roster does not include these 2 players (which I am fine with), then cut the chord quickly and move on, no sense in have these guys coming back int he Sprinf for OTA’s, then Summer Camp and hearing trade rumours, etc, etc, too many distractions, get it done by March 1st or by Draft Weekend in late April at the latest..

gotta – I agree that you can teach to read defenses and you can’t teah athleticism. And I would like someone who can read defenses very well who is not very slow!

But there’s a serious trend of very atheletic QBs coming out of college who – due to their amazing athleticism – have been treated like gods and immortal superstars – which builds up their egos to unprecedented heights – and in several cases, they never lose that egomania – which leaves them impervious to education. I consider Mike Vick to be in that category.

To JBird
Remember there was a large goup of LB’s that were out there last season and that many who signed ended up with 3-4 Yea Deals, so there just isn’t as many this Off-Seasons, I do expect some good LB’s (maybe on bad teams) will be released though to save on Salary if Team is rebuilding .. Check the Panthers LB Corps , Beason and Thomas Davis have both missed the last 2 Seasons with season ending injuries.. The Panthers got a good look at their back-ups (Dan Conner,Jonathon Senn, Jack Williams) so they may just decide to keep the younger players and release a Beason or Davis..
Saints MLB J Vilma missed a lot of games this Season and was replaced by rookie Martez Wilson who has played and filled in very well..could be a situation that Saints go with tehe younfer WIlson and release/trade a Vilma so there are lots of players who may get re-signed, released or attemp to be traded by the Free-Agency so it’s hard to say, but my guess is that there will be some quality LB’s out there availalbe for there are almost every off-season

On QB Robert Griffin III
If you guys get a chance, watch some of the Baylor/Washington game tonight and I think some of you will be surrpised to learn the Griffin is a pass first QB and not just a great athlete who plays QB.. This kids throws a great deep ball and I believe has real potential at the NFL level, he has great leadership qualities (his Father is career military man) and if he can get selected by the right team with good coaching, I think he can become a very Good NFL QB in 2-3 Years time
Griffin completed 72% of his passes for almost 4,000 yards this season and what’s impressive is that his passing average is 10.8 Yards per Pass which tells you that he’s completing a lot of intermediate and deep balls well and is just not a dink & dunk type of passer.. I like this kid and he has a bright future.. I think the Redskins will attempt to Draft him as he will be the 2nd QB drafted behind Andrew Luck

Gotta Luv It….I don’t know? Is it a code?

You have to separate your emotions from the argument and listen to what I am saying.

GLI, I’m going to keep it simple. My theory is that human beings are wired to run from danger. So if one can run, they will. That’s instinct. If you have to use your arm and your wit to escape harm because you are not particularly athletic, then you will do that. And chances are that if you are not particularly athletic, you have been using these other tools all of your life. And if you are athletic, you have been using that to get out of harms way. And your coaches that were going to have you around for 2-3 years (and not 8-10 like your coaches in the NFL) have encouraged you to do just that. Use your athleticism to win me ball games right now because I really don’t care about your long term development as a QB. You don’t need to be all that mentally skilled anyway to throw passes against high school and college defenses. Its not rocket science. But guess what?? In the NFL it is a science. A very complicated science that requires attention to detail and long hours of study and a certain skill set that one must be trained for their whole lives. It is not just something you can pick up when you are 21 years old. And this is more difficult to do if you can just RUN. Because that’s what any sane person would do.

Do I think African Americans are dumb?? Absolutely not.
Do I think that their high school and college coaches USE their abilities to win football games with their athleticism without regard to their long term development?? I absolutelt do.
Do I think that they are not capable of learning at the NFL level to do something other than what they have been coached to do their whole lives?? I think it is very difficult.

You have to separate your emotions from the argument and listen to what I am saying.

AA QBs have been around for about 20-25 years in the NFL as far as not being an anomally. Randall was still rare in his day. He and Waren Moon made people start to consider the possibility.

Moon is the only one in the HOF (but I would argue vorociously that Randall should be)

Only two have ever led their team to the SB and they both lost.

None have ever led their team to a world championship. Doug Williams did not win the SB. He played QB for the team that won and he played well that day. Anyone who ever watched the career of Doug Williams knows that he could not have led the Redskins to the SB. He was an average QB and he is not the player that put them in the playoffs. He was in the right place at the right time against an opponent that was, in every way, over matched and he had a good showing. He did not lead his team to a world title. The Skins were very fortunate that an outstanding 49ers team was upset by an average Minnesota team so they got a gimmee in the NFCC or Doug Williams would have never even had his 15 minutes of fame.

You cannot argue with the facts of the case GLI. You can get all emotional and call me a racist and all that other bullshit but you can’t argue with the facts.

Jake – yeah I’m with you on Vick, and I’m hoping that his athleticism plus improvements from and on (meaning both by the players that stay and some that are added) the team are enough to win a SB soon. Either that or that vick proves us wrong.

BUT – if you say that the egomania is what kept them from the playoffs – and I agree to a large extent – then why are you blaming the coaches? You’re two arguments conflict.

December 29, 2011 11:45 am

And by the way….Warren Moon was not very athletic. So he developed his mental accumen and accuracy to disect defenses from a young age. He should have been drafted by an NFL team because he was a QB much more so than an athlete but teams just wouldn’t do it back in those days. He also did not grow up in the South (where they just learned about this gimmick called the forward pass about ten years ago). He played in a passing offense in college. He won five consecutive Grey Cups which is unbelievable and never duplicated by anyone else in the history of the CFL. He came to the NFL, much like Satchel Paige, with his prime behind him and made NINE PBs. Huge mistake by 28 NFL franchises based on stereo-type. But he had a unique skill set and background that is not typical of most AA QBs. Most AA QBs are usually athletes first and QBs second and grew up down South in a running offense in high school and college.

I really hope not…it would be a huge mistake to give this guy away. You guys think Vick had a bad year this year imagine how bad he will be without a whole season of Djax…If they had a plan to sign Bowe then I would be ok with it but if the Eagles plan on replacing Djax with Riley Cooper/Avant that would be a disgrace.

On another note, Can somebody tell me why any of the valuable starters for next year are even going to play in this redskins game? Seriously someone give me a good reason because I would like to know..Is Reid/FO that pathetic to get to a 500 season so they can just feel better about themselves? Its already open and obvious that this season was an absolute debacle, they choked, they didn’t show up half of the time..Were eliminated plain and simple. I don’t want to hear about pride either….where was the pride when it actually counted…where was it against T-Jax and the seahawks or Skelton and the Cards…

Play Dion Lewis, Kafka, Hunt, Marsh

I just don’t want to see Shady be the next Adrian Peterson in a meaningless/pointless game that will cost us next year

you said a mouthful there jb, but it takes more guts to stay in pocket release the ball at the last possible second knowing you are going to take a hit than it does to just take off and run, and Doug Williams is a super bowl champion who had an outstanding super bowl performance, Randall developed into a fine quarterback, no need to paint with a broad brush, Vick just isn’t a top quarterback largely because as schiller points out his ego regards his development

Pheags….Shady wants to play because he’s a player and a gamer. He also would like to pad his team records and make an improbable run at the rushing title. It is his decision to play.
I totally agree that its not wise and I would give him only the first half to see what kind of shot he had at winning the rushing title. If he has 44 yards on 10 carries, I sit him. If he has 100 yards at halftime, I gotta let the guy have his shot. It is not promised again and I am sure it is something he wants very badly. Shady is a competitor and wants to be great. He is driven by this more so than money and thats rare these days.
But winning the game is pointless and only drops us another 4-5 spots in the draft. .500 is pathetic and not something to lay it all on the line for.

Jake…can you see the heart of my argument though? Without letting one’s emotion get in the way, does what I am saying make sense to some degree? I am not saying black men can’t ever be good QBs. I am just saying that very few have ever been great QBs and giving ideas as to why I think that is. And I agree on why Vick isn’t. He is ruled by his ego. He is also inot the immediate gratification of an ESPN highlight rather than the lifelong treasure of true greatness and a SB ring. Everyone pays lip service to these things, but few put in the life’s effort like a Peyton Manning or a Tom Brady. You can’t just want to be great or a champion. You have to be willing to put everything else in your life second to being a great or a champion. Very few men have the drive and courage to do that.

not so sure what the heart of your argument is, white guys given many more opportunities to play quarterback, so you will see by the numbers greater number of better white quarterbacks, I know plenty of smart, unathletic blacks too, if your point is the powers that be seek out the athletic, dynamic black quarterback regardless of his football instincts to run a pro style offense than Vick is your poster boy

@Paulman –

hate to break it to you but Griffin III is only 6 feet tall…. he is listed at 6-2….did you watch the heisman? He is 1 inch taller than Trent Richardson who is listed at 5-11. Once he is measured, his stock will drop into late round 1, early 2…

Did you know that…

Desean ranks 32nd on punt return yrds this year
but…..only 57th on punt reurn average this year 6.7

That he “fair caught” 12 of his 17 attempts

That he is 26th in yards but…..
only 50th in yrds/catch?

That he has 3 tds. Good for 73rd amongst wrs.

That he was 38th in “targets” among WRs but….
48th amongst receptions.

Why is is to important to keep this guy around at big $$ again?

I agree with much of what you said Jbird. You can go further and bring in all kinds of socio-economic reasons for this too. Also the emphasis different people place on academics, studying etc.

I bleive exactly what you said that to be successful as a championship QB you must “like a Peyton Manning or a Tom Brady. You can’t just want to be great or a champion. You have to be willing to put everything else in your life second to being a great or a champion. Very few men have the drive and courage to do that.” I would add “or the acumen”. Studying is a leaned skill.

Andrew Luck got into Stanford, not just because of his QBing ability. He is majoring in Engineering. How? He knows how to study. This is a learned trait, that must be developed over years of practice.

Another question….Why engineering? Why Stanford? He certainly didn’t have to. He could have gone somewhere else and enroled in recreational management or some other bird course.

He didn’t. These values will hold him in great stead as far as developing into an NFL quarterback. Now will they guarantee success…of course not…

Though I think they’ll serve him better than the values of a certain someone who spent his youth lending his truck to drug dealers, ran a dog fighting ring and gets caught up in birthday party shootings. This guy, at 30, is not suddenly going to morph into a Peyton manning, who reportedly sat in his sparce appt night after night studying his playbook. As late as mid way through this season, Gruden reported that Morningweg had to hunt down Vick after every practice to get him back to the film room. Good times.

Love the Warren Moon description too.

Vinnie – with all of your negative comments towards African American playmakers, it leads me to believe, and I get the feeling you’re a “duck sucking” racist who hates what he see’s in what you’ll never achieve I.M.O. There are a few of you other cats on here who’s not to far from Vinnie and his thinking. These are my opinions and I don’t want to here”hey guy don’t play the race card crap” cause some of your feelings got hurt or because the truth I’m speaking, causes your guilty conscious to speak out against you like some of our war veterans who confessed to the atrocities they committed against innocent families in this fictious war all in the name of freedom. Just save your “hey buddy, don”t play the race card” statement if this ain’t directed at you, because it is what it is and the truth never gets old.

Vinnie is a bitch who makes stuff up. Link me to the report that Morhinweg had to hunt down Vick…..cause I heard from my sisters boyfriends friends father in laws uncle that Vick spent 25 hours a day in the film room and did 100 pushups for every ball his receivers dropped.

It works both ways.

You cats are hilarious..Running around here with your bullshit theories..with your stereotypes of one whole group and why they are not elite…bottom line, when you compare 1000 people to 100, theres a pretty good chance that more of those from the group of 1000 will be in the top…If the Brady or Manning were in the minority, then your “argument” could be tolerated,…Its numbers, percentages, common sense! I hear you chirping, bird chest, and trust me you sound like a dumb ass. I know you want to be a writer so I’m a give you some help… Look at schools in which these players attend, area, population by race, income class…how many white kids from these same areas, end up being SB champions or considered in your “elite” class of QB’s? how many of them make it to the NFL? My point, is it really race or where one happens to be placed? This topic really cracks me up….there are how many black professional coaches (head coaches)? (baseball, football, basketball) How about QB’s? You have some college schools that have never had a African American coach, shit professional sports teams too…some colleges that hired their first coach in the last 20 – 30 years…your thinking is totally in line with those that head these universities…or professional sports teams. You’ve been fed this information throughout your life time, something thats been imbedded into you – its just as hard for you to change as it is for Vick, I guess….

I think they resign Desean after the season. He’ll have a great game vs. the Skins. He’s your homerun threat. He is a key elemant to this teams offensive explosiviness. Vincent Jackson isnt doubled like Jax…neither is Bowe or Wayne. Let the offense be and go get maybe a complimentary back to push Lewis. DrafT some o-line depth. They shoulda bonused him like they did Westy that year. They hanlded it poorly.

My Birdbrains on here are hype today…

Vick is an elite qb..bottomline….only 3 qb’s i want in the 4th qrtr over #7.Brees,AR,Tomkat….boom.Elite…he will show it Sunday and in 12′.

Go Birds

1. Birdo. Gruden said in during the opening segment of the Monday night game against Chicago. I don’t have an exact word for word quote, but it went along the lines of Morningwheg had to force him in all thru camp and since. How Vick said he hates it, but understands it will make him a better Qb, blah blah blah…it was all very encouraging.

2 – Awwww, Rocco…hurts who’s feelings? The fact that I point out your country has an incredible disparity between the education level of whites vs minorities. I’m just pointing out the disparity that exists and that’s one of the reasons for the different success rates of black and white QBs. Hey, that’s your backyard that you need to fix. Funny isn’t it that your only hall of fame black QB had to come and play in my town ’cause you wouldn’t take him! Stop calling me the racist and solve your own societall problems before you bitch about me pointing them out.

What the fuck does “african american playmakers” mean anyway? Is that different from other African American players in general? I guess if that’s what you mean I must hate 75% of the league (or whatever it is). Better take the Dawkins picture out of my kids’ room, and put the white sheet back up eh? I’ve stated on here a million times that McNabb was the Eagles’ best QB, and was one of my plays. What, that doesn’t count because he not “playmaker” enough for you? Who’s the guy stereotyping?

I dislike VIck because he is an angry me first punk with below mediocre QB talent. If the guy hadn’t been first pick overall, we wouldn’t even be having this conversation because he’d be a 3rd stringer on the Cleveland Browns.

3 – Real…isn’t that PRECISELY what I said? My line was that “socio-economic factors” lead to QB success. Never once did I mention race. That’s just how Rocco interpreted it.

So when Jax runs a post corner and the corner plays 10 yards off and backpedals then shadows…the safety looks in and drives on the psot only to be turned around by the corner….thats not drawing coverage?

His numbers have dipped based on the other guys stepping up. Could he have been more involved mos def. But im sorry…if i know the janitor makes what i make and im making high level decisions that his work doenst even come close too….it becomes a problem. If your one of those people that say it shoudlnt matter….then you probably still believe in the parting of the Red sea.

So he was THE homerun threat the last 3 years and you guys wanna not pay him and bring in Robert F’N Meacham….are you kidding me!!!? He’s a nice receiver….but come on!!! Brees is like Brady…he makes every reciever he plays with look elite. Marques Colston….thats just what we need in this offense…a 6’10 receiver who catchs the rock in traffic.Bowe…no thanks. We have Maclin….same player. Reggie Wayne…yeah…instead of Freddie Mitchell in that draft.

Get mean nasty defenders. The offense is good to go.

You want Vick in the 4th Q? How many 4th Q comeback he led as the birds QB over the past 2 seasons?

Perhaps to be a guy you would want leading 4th quarter comebacks, he should start leading some 4th Q comebacks.

Did you not read the stats I posted on Desean? He’s in the bottom 30 in the league if not more. Good grief.

You said, “Vick is an elite qb..bottomline”

then you said…

So, according to you….Elite QBs make WRs look elite right? Sounds fair. So by your own definition, how do you call VIck elite if he doesn’t make any of his WRs look elite.

Whoops.

Real Talk and Rocko….You are getting emotional and you are playing the race card. You have no dispute to the facts as I laid them out. Go cry racist somewhere else because its a bullshit excuse. Zero championships. Thats a fact not a theory. Do you think I don’t want black QBs to win championships? I am all for it. Especially if it is going to be one of the ones we keep drafting or aquiring. This is not anti-black sentiment. Just discussing the facts and some possible theories. Theories are not correct or incorrect just theories. Stop being bitches and whining about racism. JBird…i get you. I know Shady wants to play he is one of the few players on this team that has played with pride week in and week out…But your wrong that its his decision to play….ITS REIDS. He is HC and can tell him that he is our franchise player and we need him next year, can’t take the risk this week in a game that means nothing. Im just saying man no valuable starter should play this week. Shady is way too far off from MJD, and will not catch him even with a really good game.

Just ask the Viking fans how they feel about their stupid coach and FO for allowing Peterson to play in games with no meanings. yes injuries happen anytime but when the game has no meaning our best players should be watching from the sidelines. If Shady goes down like Peterson in a game that means absolutely nothing, Andy Reid is going to need Obama security to make it to his home.

Stats dont get Desean a new deal this year…his history with the squad gets that done.

Your not feeling Vick..so if we dumped him then we would have to find a new franchise qb to lead the way.Thats too much to go thru with the talent on both sides of the ball. We’re built to win NOW.Vick is the deal and will continue to be the man here.

Vick is nowhere near an elite QB.. He’s a good QB like McNabb was, but not an Elite..there’s only a few of those each Season… (Rogers,Brady,Brees are the Elite QB’s in 2011)
Romo,Eli Manninng,P Rivers,M Ryan,Big Ben, Flacco, M Schaub,A Smith, are all good, but were not consistent enough to be Elite in my book
and then young QB’s like Stratford,C Newton, A Dalton, J Freeman, S Bradford all have potential to be good ones but need consistency week in and week out which they will learn as they gain more experience

Vick after 15 Games is ranked 15th in teh NFL with a QB Rating of 83
He’s completed almost 60 % of his passes for almost 3000 yards but only has 15 TD passes and 13 INT.. and contrary to what many fans may believe, he has only been sacked 21 times this Season which ranks 4th lowest for QB’s with over 300 Pass Attempts behind Matt Schaub (16) of the Texans & Matt Hasselbeck (16) of the Titans and Ryan Fitzpatrick (20) of the Bills..

Vinnies Comment: “Though I think they’ll serve him better than the values of a certain someone who spent his youth lending his truck to drug dealers, ran a dog fighting ring and gets caught up in birthday party shootings. You see the picture you paint you asshole Vinnie of Vick. You are the problem with Socioeconomic injustice in this great country because the use of what you write. That’s like a journalist who equates rap music with being a thug, and for those close minded people such as yourself who write that kind of crap to keep that shit going in this country to the kind of close minded people who follow your type of thinking.
