Report: Eagles To Franchise Jackson If They Can’t Agree To Long-Term Deal

Jeff McLane of Philly.com reports that the Eagles will franchise wide receiver DeSean Jackson if they’re not able to sign him to a new deal.  That’s no shock to me.  it’s the right move and I’ve been telling you that for a few weeks.

All the explanations and reasons for the Birds to let Jackson go don’t make sense with Michael Vick in the quarterback position.  They’ve played together for two years.  Asking Vick to get used to playing without Jackson would not be wise, unless your goal is for Vick to struggle.

They’re familiar with each other.  Jackson knows this offense backward and forward.  Remember this offensive group put up huge yardage numbers, but they turned the ball over too much and struggled at times in the red zone.

Smart, he deserves 9 million a year…I don’t care what his stats were this year. If the Eagles did the right thing in paying their only Pro Bowl WR IN YEARS, WHAT HE DESERVED, THIS SEASON FOR HIM MAY NOT HAVE BEEN WHAT IT WAS FOR HIM; THIS WAS PARTIALLY THEIR FAULT. He is unique, as an athlete, and brings something special to this offense that neither V. Jackson, Colston, nor Bowe can, – the ability to stretch the defense so far that the safeties have to play back, because of the potential home run threat he presents- Which makes it possible for Shady, Maclin, and Celek to get off. The Arizona game with out him showed how valuable he was to the eagles. Some are of the belief, that just bringing in a name WR would take care of that — Not exactly, especially, if the you don’t have a QB like Rivers, Brees, or Manning. – There is no way you can guarantee the same production; you can only assume that may work. Besides that they would get as much attention from the safeties playing over the top, which stifles what the Eagles do. But sense all of them, except V.Jackson, will resign, or be franchised by their team, you can forget it. DeSean Jackson should be resigned to a extension that keeps him in Philadelphia for some time, If the Eagles are smart…………..

Told over and over that Vick and Jackson “compliment” each other. The big play speed marries with the big arm.

Strange that Jackson’s numbers have declined the two years Vick has been his QB.

Cmon gmclif, other teams are able to get by without someone that has elite speed like jackson backing the safties off. This guy isnt worth fitzgerald money. I would give him 6-7mil tops.
If our receivers cant get open without safties playing 20 yards off of the ball then they just arent good enough or the offensive scheme needs a change.

Sources state that the Eagles and the Patriots have a deal in principle
Eagles to Send D-Jax to the Patriots (who have 2 1st Round Selections) and will get their #31st Pick in th 1st Round as compensation and the Patriots get their down the field threat that they haven’t had since Randy Moss left..

I agree cliff dead on…

Like i said in previous posts, if the eagles want to compete this year and watch this offense excel than they have to bring desean back.. and they are not going to trade him after franchising him.. it would handicap the offense.. who do they have in this league to can replace him and his speed? Answer that question. I ll answer for you, noone..

Just because you may not like the way a guy acts doesnt mean its time to get rid of him… you guys dont understand that hes 25 years old and still has tremendous upside. You want to see him running routes for pats, redskins, cowboys, or other team? No you wouldnt. So chill out all those who are calling for djacc to go…

Colston will not be franchised bc they still have to give Brees and OT Nicks contracts. So Brees will most likely be franchised and colston may walk but it all remains to be seen…

Another source tweeted from Dallas about a deal between the Cowboys and that will be annouced over DFraft Weekend
The Eagles send CB A Samuel to the Cowboys for their 2nd Round Pick (#46 Overall) which now gives the EAgles 3 Selections in the 2nd Round and then they pick as follows

#45 Overall from Cardinals – CB Stephon Gilmore (South Carolina 6-1 195lbs)

Vinnie- give me a break- his numbers about the same every year. He for sure had a bad year but dont make it sound like the guy has gotten much much worse every year since Vick got here. He gives you 50-60 catches for about 1,000 yards. his numbers reflect this. I know you want a super team…. go watch the packers for goodness sakes.

Its funny how even a blog about Djax- and the crap year he has had with the drops and his tude and all gets flipped into Vicks fault. What a joke you are…… nothing to see here folks- Blind on vinnie- blind on.

By moving D-Jax, A Samuel & T Cole, the Eagles end up with a total of 7 Players out of the Top 79 Selections..In doing so, the Eagles beef up their Defense with 4-5 Starters by 2013 to help create a dominate Defense for the next 5-8 Years, They also got their QB of the Future in Nick Foles who probably has the strongest all-around arms in this Draft and has the size and strength that Coach AR & MM have been longing for and the best thing about these moves is that this will but 3 more Years of Coach AR to coach all this young talent up and bring a Championship to Philly

4th Round goes to the Offense

#101 Overall-from Bucs – TE LaDarius Green (La-Lafayette 6-6 240lbs)
#111 Overall – own WR Joe Adams (Arkansas 5-10 185lbs & 4.38 speed)

Eagles will take a minor step back in 2012, but have reloaded and re-stocked with talent for the remainder of the Decade following GM Paulman’s Plan..

The world of living in fear.

Other teams can hire a new head coach and go to the superbowl.
But not the eagles.

Other can part ways with star players and get another one in the draft.
But not the eagles.

Yes, we desperately need a skinny WR who can’t take a hit, will drop the ball in the endzone if he thinks he is going to get hit, and simply will not play hard if he does not feel like it. And has not put on a pound since he’s been in the NFL.

Oh his speed is soo amazing. So what? Rough him up and he’s done for the day. That was the Chicago Scouting report.

If the Eagles are going to the next level, they need football players not gimmick one trick pony players. The NFL has caught on to Desean and the book on him has been read.

He refuses to improve. Great players get better. He has gotten worst.

That punt return against the Giants was a couple of seasons ago.

But hey, Andy Reid’s last trip to the Superbowl was a long time ago and we kept him.

Let’s keep living in a “Pasttime Paridise” and we’ll never win a Superbowl.

Paulman – Trent Cole would warrant more than a 3rd round pick especially, If Asante would bring you a possible 2nd or 3rd. But I do like some of your picks, it s just some of the pick resemble what we have already on the team; not as fast, not nasty enough athletes. I also have adjusted my Mock Draft as well. I will present that later today….I’m looking at Vontaze Burfict as an Outside Linebacker in the second round..He seems to be more suited there to cover TE’s, and Blitz off the edge, and Donta Hightower in the middle. I know he is a 2 down LB Paul, but as I thought harder about it, He brings the nasty, and the thump we need. I feel he would be even better, if he would lose some weight, then he could be in more plays. Hightower, Burfict, and Nigel Bradham, have the speed, nastiness, and cover skills we need. Add a veteran; my choice London Fletcher, and a veteran safety possibly- the free agent from Buffalo – I think his name is George Brown or something like that- and the rookies can be brought along, as you said to forrm a nucleus for the decade.

Bsm- its not about fear and besides… lets look at the History of the Eagles WR’s under andy.

For YEARS we had to hear that Andys system was so amazing that it didnt need actual playmakers. I once was in a shouting match with Eskin who was screaming that Pinky, thrash and co were “FINE”!!! At the end of that year we got T.O. and u can clearly see what that did for us.

Im FINE if they get a replacment for Djax. But if they plan on rolling out Riley Copper as the next big thing then we would be in for a LONG LONG season AGAIN.

Hostory has shown us that when they draft a player and work him in, they can move on from the vet behind him…. example- Taylor and Vincent/ Lito and brown, Tra/Herm, Westy/Shady.

History has also shown that when they let a player move on without having a guy already behind him, it blows up in our face and costs more in the long run to fill that spot. Example- Dawk, Trot.

If we were to run with your idea, y not cut Shady right now? Would it also be in “fear” if we didnt think we could find a replacment at a cheaper price?

Stevo – a buzzzer sounding EEHEHHEHEHEHEHE – not so fast mister –

I have blown this myth out of the water as well – TO did nothing except give fans a rise –

the 2 seasons before TO arrival the eagles were 12-4 and #1 seed in NFC – year TO here the Eagles were 13-3 and #1 seed in NFC (wow one game)

The Eagles gained EXACTLY 500 more yards in total offense from 2003 to 2004 – that is an avergae of about 35 yards a game more with TO then without – they scored EXACLTY 40 TDs in 2003 (23 RUSHING and 17 pass) and 42 TDs in 2004 – (32 Passing and 10 rushing )

so for the price of TO – we got 1 win, 500 yards and 2 TDs –

as for ‘over the hump into SB’ TO did not, let me repeat, did not play in the playoffs – the same ‘all we heard Andy Ried talk about the WRs are fine” guys

2003 Thrash, Pinkston, Mitchell and Leiws – 2004 Pinkston Lewis and Mitchell – and Thrash became a draft pick that became Trent COle..

and we got the 2005 To meltdown –

that’s it hoss – 35 yards a game, 1 more win, and 2 more TDs –

but here is my next favorite part of this myth – ever read the dipweeds on here who say Reid never ran the ball? Well BS – in 2003 (notice the TD totals above – Birds ran 484 times, passed 417…. 2003

2004 with TO – Eagles ran the ball 376 – passed 547 – so that was the first year folks that the run/pass got screwed up – but we the fans were demanding better WRs – guess we got what we asked for – now Reid tends to pass too much and people go ‘he never runs enough’ grass is always greener –

so its an opinion – if you think getting TO helped or hurt the Eagles – maybe it did with swagger and intangibles – I think the 2004 Eagles D was one of the best – but that’s me – TO did very little other then destrouy 2005 – just look at the numbers

this year 8-8 next season? 9-7

Here’s a quote you can bet on…The Arizona Cardinals will win a Superbowl before the Eagles.

Before you laugh…remember that Saints & teams like the Bucs were once laughingstocks while we were ahead of them. Losing seasons leads to an organization investing in winning. We have perfected mediocrity. Bad enough to have the fans complain, yet good enough to have fans believe next season may be different.

Lurie is a genius.

His Stadium is sold out for the foreseeable future, have the offensive weapons which translates merchandise profits, (which my peoples have chose to not partake until a serious change in philosophy from the top down).

He have perfected his catering to the starving Philly hopefuls by plugging in the occasional “Rocky” with the likes of drafting 27 year old firemen, picking over clearly superior talent.

Saved boat loads of cash by haggling with their own pro bowlers only to let them walk and replace them with cheaper, less talented replacements.

Lurie have even threw his hat in the booming beverage ring, with him and banner rolling out their new toxic delusional drink rightly titled, “GREEN VOMIT”.

He figures these Fans accept their bull and beg for more….why not put green dye in after party liquid waste with a serious PR campaign behind to rake in a few more shekels?

stevo – I like that nickname boss – thanks – Mr #s – I didn’t really get what you meant by your question – the point I was trying to make (and sorry if I stepped in at the wrong time rev) was that the addition of TO was like a night of heavy drinking and partying with a pretty girl – sure – it was fast, it was hot, but the next morning, looked like shit, felt like shit, and took the entire next day of going, what the hell happened!

Couple other good points, turnovers were way down, D was better etc. etc. but in the end – in my opinion TO brought a lot more trouble then he was worth (for those of you that love Vjax – he is in the paper out here in SD every other week – often for not very good things)

Good Navy! I love your myth busting. Yapping up old dead myths and ordaning false preceptions is prime factor #1 around here thanks for the clarity brother.

I fiemly believe that if Reid wins a Superbowl here, that three years removed some would be crying some excuse like the conference was weak, or the best teams didn’t make it to the playoffs.

Finally one last point, what made those teams better much like the lions, and the recent 49ers, and Cardinals of a couple years ago was something I like to call…. ah um…..FREAKING CONSTANT AND CONSECUTIVE FREAKING TOP 5 DRAFT PICKS FOR BEING SUCH LOSERS.

The good teams of which our beloved Eagles under Reid is one, to also include the Steelers, Patriots, Giants, and now those pesky Saints do one thing they win and stay competitive year in and out with no consecutive losing regular seasons and drafting in the middle or backend of the draft year after year.

I agee Stevo, with highly talented WR’s from the begining Reid could have created a monster franchise I give you that point for sure, but let us all concede that Reid did it his way and was successful, not truimpant, but successful.

An if I hear one more person talk about study game film, by watching network TV footage with commercial breaks, commentor interrupts and pans of the fans in the stands, I am going walk outside and run into a tree head first to stablize my reality base.

Finally for the record I think DJax helps us, he plays to our strength and is the accelarant in our offensive chemical mixture that makes us lethally potent and destructive to just about any defense in the league.

He needs to know that there are only a few teams that he would thrive with, or whose offence could thrive with him help . The Eagles need to know that we are one of those teams and act accordingly.

perhaps birdo but if it happens it will be on OUR terms, not his- and that is the key. perhaps they move up in the draft and get a burner WR that fell a hair. Perhaps they decide they need a Vjax to add to the mix. Perhaps Plax comes here and we get a burner in the 2nd. We can do all that and THEN trade Djax for the MLB, DT, or FS we want (i would love to see us land something the 49ers have). Point is….. we could do that or…… lend everything else in the draft and FA and decide to keep the little guy. Any way you slice it…. we could come up on top.

all this aside….. we need some leaders here folks. Eagles have always had a few guys that kept it together… they knew what it was to be an Eagle. we dont have that right now….. why does Jenkins seem to know what it means to be an eagle more than anyone else on the team?

Monolith- yes. I would agree that Andy has been good. I will agree that the F.O is NOT cheap overall and i would agree that the Drafts overall have NOT been a bust every year.

the problem is this tho……
1. Andy doesnt learn. Its the same problems every year as far as 1/2 time ajustments and time out burning. I know the Gmen just did this in the SB but good teams dont burn timeouts like this EVERY WEEK. I know it happenes but…. it has to happen less.
2. The D style of players s not workig. Ive said it for years…. Jim J wanted more turnovers and so…. they changed. Remember that hit Sheldon Brown put on Bush in the playoffs? think that would happen from a CB now? im not sure we would even see that from a LB.
3. Im with Navy when he talks about how the likes of TO and Djax have just made Andy more in love with the deep TD bomb…. this puts pressure on the D and i just dont think it will work without a hard hitting nasty D.

I completely understand why fans complain about it. I just think it’s WAY overblown in terms of having a significant impact on the success or failure of the team. And like any partially legit criticism in Philly, it snowballs, gathers steam, and becomes exaggerated.

Do you think we lost any games this year because of Andy calling time outs too much or too early? Last year?

Give me the tally for games lost under Andy Reid due to time out missplacement?

This is important, because you’re the only person left on the earth (from a football standpoint) that still loves the guy. In fact, it’s clear you have a crush.

Good think the Eagles and the rest of the fans aren’t googly eyed over him like you are – cause we all know that he plays the game of football poorly – kinda key in terms of considering signing the guy.

If a player plays poorly when he’s not getting paid how do you think he will play when he is?… Something to think about. The Eagles have a roster full of players that play with no passion and no heart. They hate Philly fans so they dont play for you guys. Vick partied every weekend during the season, Desean wears his lakers gear at A PHILLY HOME GAME of all places. Avant calls out the fans. Kelce and that other OL guy tells the fans to take down a banner. ALL THE SIGNS ARE THERE. They hate it here. If Andy left philly so would the whole roster.

DJAX back to Cali to the 49ers for their 1st rounder……he gives the 49ers a deep threat next to Crabtree and Davis……

#15 – DE/LB Courtney Upshaw (can play MLB, OLB or DE and gives the Eagles a playmaker on defense)
#31 – TE Dwayne Allen, Clemson (gives the Eagles the 2nd best TE tandem in the NFL next to the Pats)
2nd round – LB Lavonte David, Nebraska (I dont care that he is only 6-1 230 – he is the next Jon Beason – he makes plays and would start week #1 for the Birds at LB
2nd round – DT Kendall Reyes, UCONN (interior monster who gets into the backfield…gives the Eagles a tackle to rotate in and get to the QB….excellent run defender)

49ers are going to relapse, Giants will bend to our pressure, cowboys please, the lions wheels fall off, Bears LOL, Packers will get stronger, Saints maintain, Panthers progress a little….. watch my friends, watch!!!

schiller- who cares… point is…. calling a time out before the first play of a half should not happen. ever.

on a bigger level- its the same stuff that happens every year schill… bigger than time outs. Im talking about the red zone on both sides of the ball. Why is this? perhaps the players are not big enough? Perhaps having fast guys works between the 20’s but when it comes down to the redzone you need a little umphff. y is that the fans seem to get this yet the birds dont? and here is y it pains me the most… they are GREAT at what they do. I honestly feel that way. To do what Andy has done over and over is hard… and yet…. he does not seem to understand that throwing in any old rookie LB to RUN THE FRIGGIN D doesnt work. Thats the kind of stuff im talking about. im talking about starting season without players needed at positions. I know teams go into seasons knowing they are a little thin but to just disregard a position all together…. ie… fullbacks and return men. i dont understand why everything has to be a fight…. its a never ending pissing contest in these parts.

Eagle suck, the players reaction to the fans reaction says more about the players, coddled by a deficient coach, than it does the fans, Philadelphia fans are the greatest in the country bar none, ask any true competitor who has ever played here, this eagles team does not get it, largely because of the coach and their lack of mettle

DJax is afraid of getting hit. He’s worthless. If you think different so are you. The black and white of it is opposing coaches know to eradicate his effectiveness all you got to do is POP him one and he’s done for the day. His counterpart Maclin isn’t that far behind him in cowardice. These two creampuffs are part of the reason why the Eagle’s reputation has gone limp. Dont even kid yourself about how speed rules. Drafting speed is what has got us in this mess to begin with. Get Vincent Jackson or someone else who gives a damn cause DJax and Maclin will never lay out for the first down. Never! Their ruined. And the longer we hang on to these two pansies who, like it or not set the tone, the longer we will be failures in this league.
