Randy Moss Wants To Return, But Could He Be Coming This Way

Last year during the frantic free agency period immediately after the lockout ended, I got a call from a friend of Randy Moss’, who told me that Moss was desperate to find a place to play.  He wanted to see if the Eagles were interested in him.

Moss was beside himself in anger that there wasn’t a team in the NFL interested in bringing him in.  The future Hall of Famer had been working out feverishly in Florida and anxious to show a team that he still had his speed, but Moss’ problems in New England and subsequent disappointing performance in Minnesota, then Tennessee made teams feel it was over for him.

Now he’s back for another shot.  Could he be a deep target if they move DeSean Jackson?  Could his 6’4″ frame allow him to be a red zone threat for the Eagles?

Remember Andy Reid tried to lure Moss to Philadelphia four or five years back when he was a free agent for a short period of time before resigning with the Patriots.  Reid talked to Moss for about two-hours on one Monday afternoon and tried to convince him to leave Tom Brady and the Patriots for Donovan McNabb and the Eagles.

I was shocked to learn that information and break story, so I’m not ruling Moss out completely for the Eagles now.  He just turned 35 years old.  How fast is he, now?  Is he in great shape?  Would he be willing to be a situational player?

Personally, I don’t think Moss is headed this way, but you never know.  Both parties are desperate.  Moss is desperate to continue his NFL career and the Eagles will be desperate to find a deep threat if they trade Jackson and they’re desperate to find a tall receiver to be a playmaker for them in the red zone.

Arguably the most unstoppable WR ever when he wants to be. Blows by DBs with pure speed, cannot be bottled up at the line up scrimmage, outjumps defenders in the redzone, runs right through and around double and triple teams. Maybe the best of all time in my opinion.
If his mind and body are still right lookout. He sounds ready to go. I think the quote was that he is ready to “rip people’s heads off” or something to that effect.

A motivated Moss would be huge for us. Maclin and DJax, Im convinced, are creampuffs. Total frauds who are scared to death to take a hit. A fired up Moss, at only 35, could give this team some moxie. Im all for it.

Too many living in the past… I don’t Moss would be a real godo fit,
he’s quit on his last 2-3 teams (Pats/Vikings/Titans)
Why not Sign WR Robert Meachem, Draft a WR Speedster like Joe Adams or
Jarius Wright and then trade D-JAx for a high Pick or Picks in Return… Then the Eagles would have more talented players and options for the next 4-5 Seasons…

You guys are ignoring one huge fact about the eagles. They have missed on alot of there draft picks. Yes theyll point out the ones they hit, but they have a number of misses. So why collect as many draft picks as you can when your not hitting? Thats why they went psycho in free agency last year. They just cant draft defensive players well. So why do u guys want them to acquire all these draft picks? For what? They dont use them correctly or on the correct players.. its not all about draft picks its about winning and winning now for this team.. idt you guys understand this.. why thr heck would they trade desean whose 25 and a huge part of this offense for some draft picks then sign Moss whose 35 to pretty much take his spot? Are you guys gone completely? That makes no sense whatsoever

Now this sounds more legit…
**Report**
A source is reporting that the eagles would be “very interested” in Vincent Jackson if he hits the open market and does not receive the franchise tag from the San Diego Chargers.

Jon,

Seeing that every team in the league “misses” on about 70% of their draft picks…..That only about 30% of draft picks every make it to a starting role in the NFL – (again, these are league wide numbers – not just the Eagles)
Then the absolutely prudent thing to do is acqire extra picks.

As for Moss? Perhaps if it was 2002, not 2012….even then he was a malcontent.

Why don’t the Eagles bring TO back too… Then they can have a WR Corps of Moss,TO,Plaxico Burress (and of course Chad Hall) and still finish at 8-8 or 9-7

Moss and Burress are tough sells because if they are not starter they hurt your team since they don’t play special teams ( esp. covering punts and kickoffs )

Washington DC Beltway rumors have both QB P Manning and WR’s Moss and Hines Ward coming to the Redskins along with LG Nicks from NO Saints to fortify their OL that the Redksins become the front Runners of the NFC East with Giants a close 2nd, then the Cowboys 3rd (after signing free-agent CB Samuel and signing Free-agent Safety LeRon Landry) and then the Eagles bring up the rear…

The fact that Moss played for three different teams in one season and did absolutely nothing says it all for me. This guy is done. I think it’ll only get worse for him because if a team does take a chance with him, he’s most likely not going to be the number one option. He’ll whine and complain and then dog it on every play. Moss and T.O. have nothing to off the Eagles. I’d rather take a look at Plaxico Burress.

2012 NFC East Predictions

#1) Redksins 12-4 (Led by the resurgent Peyton Manning leading the Redksins to a 42 Point a Game Scoring Average as he shows no mercy versus any teams and especially verses NFC East Rivalries)
#2) Giants 9-7 ( The usual post Super-Bowl hangover,Eli reverts to his Int’s)
#3) Cowboys 8-8 (Another woulda, coulda, shoulda, but fail in the end)
#4) Eagles 6-10 (Back-up QB Trent Edwards leads the Eagles to 4 wins to end the Season after a horrible 2-10 Start by VIck and Co, Edwards remarkable comeback reinvigorate both Coach AR & MM as they are heralding as QB geniuse’s again and forces Owner Jeff Lurie to extend both Eagles Coaches Contrcts thru the 2016 Season..) QB Vick is traded to the Miami Dolphins for QB Matt Moore in the Off-Season

Moss doesn’t make sense for the Eagles at this point. The dude just comes with too much baggage, he’s as volatile as T.O. at times, he also could decide to retire again at any point. There are far too many receivers out there that could help the Eagles without the extra baggage. I’d sooner sign Vincent Jackson, Pierre Garcon and even Hines Ward before remotely considering Moss. Wouldn’t be surprised if he turns up with the Redskins though…that’s their kind of player.

Get Moss and Buress in here. they have the money to do it. Get rid of cooper, he had his hot and did nothing but come out with more downside than up. plax had a better season than cooper did. Do the trade with whoever for D jax for a starting defense of player and bring in Moss if he still has that speed and plax. you will have two hungry ass dudes going up for the ball. Motivation for Vick to get it right and then we will see. I know it wont happen but what does Andy have to lose if he can get them in here right away to get started with Vick and the coaches. Moss & TO are cooked, & I would only bring in Plax if he is a complimentary WR to a stud that we bring in, like Bowe, VJax, Colston, Wallace, or Johnson. All of whom I’d take over DJax.

Burress I would bring in, but only along with Vincent Jackson, but this would probably mean the Eagles would have to trade Maclin and Avant based on their current and potential future salary requirements and because Vincent Jackson is going to want them to back up the Brinks truck. Thank you Songs. How about Moss Desean and Maclin now that stretches the field and gets it done in the redzone. Mike, just haul off and let it rip, they’ll get there. I know, I know Moss is old. He can fall out of bed and run a 4.3. Watch the Youtube vid of his 23 td season and tell me that doesn’t get you going just a little bit. Players whose personalities are a little outside the box don’t scare me as much as Song’s chior boys. I mean how much worse can it be. I cannot envison the Eagles ever signing/acquiring a True #1 WR.. I just don’t see it happening under Coach AR who thinks he can stick in any number of WR’s and still have an effective Offense.. DO you guys really see them giving a WR a $50-$60 Million Deal,… I don’t …
I can see them adding a Veteran Big WR (Burress/Edwards) or a 2nd Tier WR like a Robert Meachem, Legandee Nanee, but not the True #1 V-Jax,D Bowe & M Wallace’s of the NFL.. no way and no how…

Pman- Jaws said a few years ago that there are only like 5 “true” #1 WR’s in the league. There are very few that are double teamed. Most are “watched” by a SS roaming the mid of the field who can get to the ball around the time it arives deep down field.

In all honesty- and im not trying to jump on the djax banwagon- but Djax is often in that #1 camp because his speed needs someone to run ahead most of the time to account for his speed.

Moss-by jaws- was for sure 1 of the Double Teamed ones. Plax- if i remember correctly- was not.

Ummm everybody is really on this vincent jackson kick. Not saying the guy isnt a good reciever but i would like to point something out. Vincent Jackson 4754 yards in 7 seasons. Those are respectable numbers. 680 yards a season average. Desean Jackson 4096 yards in 4 seasons. Those in my opinion are better numbers. 1024 yards a season. Just saying why break the bank on big vince. You can talk about Desean being a cry baby you can talk about him not liking the middle his size and thats all well and good. But production and numbers are the bottom line.

Butch, where are you getting your information about Bowe? Because it is unfounded & bogus. Bowe took their #1 pick from the 2011 draft WR Jonathan Baldwin under his wing, even let him move in with him to teach him the ropes. Bowe has become one of their only leaders. If he was a locker room nightmare, why would he take his possible replacement, under his wing. I have never heard anything negative written about that guy. If there was, I didn’t see it. Maybe I’m wrong. The only stories I heard about him, was that he broke the NFL man code, by telling the stories of his wild sex parties & drinking. Hell yeah, sounds like a good time to me. All men, especially Athletes have similar stuff to say.

First of all Mike Wallace is not a #1 if Desean isnt. Desean is better when he plays like his firsat 3 yrs…..

So The Redskins are winning the division with adding Manning, Moss, Nicks and Ward? So Moss is past his prime for the Eagles and not worth it but if He and 38 yr old Ward and 35 yrs old Mannng go to the Skins then they are the team to beat? LOL. Please tell me that you post comments to get reactions from people because you really cannot be serious and so wishy washy. Sounds like to me the Eagles hurt you from all of the missed opportunities to win a superbowl the last 14 yrs and now you are angry towards them and the organization.

Look at it this way Paul. Breakdown is below vs redskins and how the Eagles compare.

QB Eagles by a landslide
RB Eagles by a landslide
OL Eagles by a landside
TE Even Skins would have the Edge but F. Davis is on the verge of being suspended for a full yr if he is caught smoking also he falls asleep in meeting. Cant really count on him. Cooley is falling apart and getting old. Celek is just as good so its a drwa.
WR Eagles by a Landslide
DE Eagles by a Landslide
LB Skins
DB Eagles (Skins need to find 3 starters in their secondary. They are very old and slow. Hall is awful, Landry needs surgery and will probably hit the market, the other safety I forget his name is gone and old their nickel and dime DB wouldnt make the eagles practice squead.

So how do the skins win the division again by adding 3 players (Ward, Moss and Manning that are at the end of their careers?) Eagles are the team in the east with the right moves that is in the best position to win the division.

To Stillmatci

#1) Mike Wallace last 3 Season : 171 Receptions 3200 Yards, 24 TD’s with an 18.7 Yard Average per Catch– He’s 5-11 and 200lbs and strong and tough enough to run deep post routes, intermediate routes across the middle where D-JAx can’t or wont’…
#2) D-JAx Stats last 3 Seasons : 167 Receptions 3175 yards and 19 TD’s and about a 19 yard average

As you can see, Production wise, very close stats on the last 3 Seasons between these 2 WR’s but since Wallace is bigger and stronger and has another good 5-6 Years ahead of him, I would take him over D-Jax any day
Plus Wallace is a Winner and a tTeam Player while D-Jax is a Diva and a Whiner if you ask me… ..

February 15, 2012 8:36 pm

Sorry about that Stevo.. must have been an oversight/typo on that one..
But in todays NFL, there has to be 12-15 WR’s that you really have to game plan for or they win a game for your team… just thinking about it I cam up with these WR’s off the top of my head …

Wes Welker, H Nicks, V Cruz, S Holmes, D-Jax, M Wallace,S Johnson,C Johnson, Jennings and J Nelson, D Bowe, V Jax, B Marshall, A Johnson, Fitz, B Marshall, R White, Julio Jones, Steve Smith (Panthers) , A Boldin,
R Wayne (With Manning QB) , Colston, and even todays TE’s are more of an extension of WR’s and there are a ton of good TE’s like Gronkowski,Hernandez, Keller,Finley,Sheffler,Pettigrew, Gresham,J Cook, Gonzales,Graham,Whitten,Olson & Shockey, Pitta & Dixon, etc,etc..
The Top teams have 2-3-4 Weapons they can beat you with, not just the old #1 Wr and and a big plodding TE who will catch a 8 yd button hook and go down after catching the ball.. Game has changed
