Who Might The Sixers Target In The NBA Draft?

The rumors are flying every where and moves are being made. It’s NBA Draft Time!

We have Dwight Howard and D-Will possibly going to Houston. Houston has loaded up on draft picks to make a run at Howard. Nash might be going to Knicks. Don’t know why he would want to go there but whatever. There was even a false report on the internet that Melo got traded. Now, that would have been funny. People already have Ray Allen in a Heat jersey. The Bobcats and Pistons made a trade that might be the oddest trade ever.  Warriors are rumored to be targeting Wilson Chandler for their seventh pick. Ummm, OK then. Seriously, what are some of these GM’s thinking? The one thing that scares me about Rod Thorn is that he said, there is a 50% chance or more that Hawes , Iggy and Lou-Will come back. Well, I did not want to hear that. I am going to pretend that I didn’t. That leads me right into the biggest rumor I heard and it involves our Sixers.

ESPN on Sirius radio mention that there is a rumor that the Lakers would send Bynum to the Sixers for Iggy, Holiday, and the 15th pick.  Well, then.  If this is true that would be the one major move that the fans are looking for. The Lakers need a point guard and they are looking to get younger as well. This would give the Sixers a legitimate big- man that they have not had since Barkley. Well, really Moses Malone.

Would the Sixers then take a run at D-Will right after? They would have the money once they amnesty Brand. Or would they just slide Turner to the point. This trade would open up a lot of different options for them. This trade won’t likely happen though. The Lakers would be nuts to give up the best younger center in the league. Stranger things have happen though. This should be an entertaining draft tonight even with most of these rumors being wrong. The Sixers are also link to Jamal Crawford.

Let’s get away from fantasy land for a little bit and get in to the draft. If you did not like what Thorn had to say about the Sixers free-agents you are not going to like this. Thorn has also come out said that he does not envision the Sixers moving up. What a “Buzz Kill”.  So let’s recap, not trading up and wanting to bring back everyone from your own free-agents. Way to use all of your options there Thorn. OK, fine. I am going to go with the Sixers staying at the 15th pick for now. Here is who I would target..

Terrence Jones, Power Forward from Kentucky. He is 6′-10′ 252 pounds. Jones can score from anywhere on the court and is a very good ball-handler. He is a big-time athlete. The knock on him is that he has an inconsistent jumper and needs to work on his low-post game. Here is a scouts take..

Perry Jones III, Power Forward from Baylor– He is 6′-11″ 234 pounds. Perry can really score and can flat-out run the floor. The knock on him is that he does not live up to his talents yet. Here is a scouts take..

Jerad Sullinger,  Power Forward From Ohio State  He is 6′-9″ 268 pounds. He has a high basketball IQ. He is great at using his body down low and can play with his back to the basket. The knock him is that he is not the greatest athlete. He also has back issues. Here is a scouts take..

Terrence Ross, Small Forward From Washington– He is 6′-7″ 197 pounds. He is a great athlete. He can flat-out shoot the rock with range. The knock on him is that he needs to work on his ball-handling. He also needs to get stronger as well. Here is a scouts take..

If I had to rank them I would go Perry Jones, Sullinger, Terrence Jones then Terrence Ross. Perry Jones is a top five talent that has yet to put his game all together. If I where Thorn I would do anything that is possible to improve this team.  Here is hoping that the Sixers/Thorn are really going to explore all of the avenues for this team. PLEASE!!

Give me Perry Jones, Moultrie, & I’d still take a chance on Sullinger. Dude has mad skills for a PF! I think his back has been overblown. I still don’t think he is going to fall. 5 things need to happen this off-season, for them to get me fully back on board. Brand needs to be Amnestied. Stinkadala needs to be traded. We need at least 2 good bigmen (preferably a PF & C). Also we need a true scoring SG!

If the sixers keep their pick and Tyler Zeller is on the board and when they pick, that is your guy.

I agree MH and think Zeller would be a nice Pick at #15 if others are gone
I like Arnett Moultrie at PF out of the Group of PF which is they need the most
If the 76ers Trade Iggy, then I like Terrance Ross at the #3 spot to replace Iggy

Joe, fantastic article brother.

I don’t like Rod Thorn, and or Doug Collins running this draft. He is absolutely not in his right mind to continue with this mancrush on Igoudala, and keep him, or make that ridicolous trade for Bynam. Neither help this team to get any closer to being in contention.

Every year they stubbornly refuse to accept reality that Igoudala, is NOT the superstar they try to advertise him to be, it sets this team back 3 years. A player with more talent, and more upside would 1) get used to the pro game, and develop. 2) Develop a chemistry with his team. and 3) Take at least 2 years to continue in that routine. I agree they shouldn’t just give him away but They can get a better deal for him than whats been rumored.

I am also not sold on the fact that Evan Turner is the answer at the 2. HE CAN’T SHOOT, AND HE IS CARELESS WITH THE BALL. I can guarantee you I could have (Michael Kidd Gilchrist) here to make up for the lost of Igoudala, by trading Evan Turner to Sacramento, for their pick, #4 and some players……….I try to trade Igoudala, and sign and trade Lou in a multi team deal, that sends Igoudala, and a future 2nd round pick from us to the Lakers, Paul Gasol, a signed and traded Lou Williams, a future #1 pick, from the Lakers, to Portland, and (LaMarcus Aldridge), and the #6 (Andre Drummond) pick to Philadelphia. My choice at #15…a real shooter (Terrance Ross). I also look into sending the rights to Elton Brand, and a future #1 pick to Houston, for the rights to (Donatas Montejunas). If I can find a way to get my hands on Arnett Moultrie, I would.

Houston got #1 picks for Samuel Dalambert, and Chase Budinger?!!? C’Mon!!, and we cant get #1 picks for Turner, Igoudala, and Lou??!!? No we’re chasing after has beens like Gasol, Jefferson, and a crippled Bynam.

My free agent targets would be Ryan Anderson, Javale McGhee, and Jamal Crawford, and I would also re-sign the 26year old Spencer Hawes. Add that to Thad, Jrue, Vucevic, and Lavoy Allen……and now we can push for a championship.

Tell Thorn get creative. He is resting on his sucess from the past in having us believe he has what it takes to get us over the top. What have you done lately, or even in the last 6 years to support that?!!?

What do you think Joe?

C’Mon!!!, Challenge GMCliff PLEASE!!! I guarantee you I will make you look bad, and bring 2-3 championships to Philadelphia before you ever get one somewhere else

Tyler Zeller would be a wasted draft pick. Nick Vucevic is better than he wil ever be. The only thing going for Tyler Zeller, is that he’s 7 feet tall, and he played for North Carolina……..He will be one of those 7 foot Journeymen like Tony Battie. Dont waste your time with him. The Sixers like Myers Leonard, and he is a bum too; just another wasted pick.

In the 2nd Round, I would draft Hollis Thompson, Georegetown; another jump shooter, and Kyle O’Quinn, Norfolk State; Bigman, Defense, Shot Blocking, Low Post Scoring. My draft is complete..AMEN

after going back and looking at the sixers draft history all I can say for sure is who cares who they draft because the guy will be a total bum for a fact. wow we have a bad history. Jrue over Ty Lawson was a good choice. Speights over Hibbert, McGee, Ryan Anderson, Serge Ibaka, DeAndre Jordan & Hickson was another good one.

wOULDN’T BE THE FIRST TIME i WAS CALLED CRAZY MHENSKI…LOL!!!

But, it is the course we should take. Aldridge is coming off hip surgery, and still isn’t walking. He does not want to be part of a rebuiling project. He could be available if they were given the right compensation, My gameplan has us in a multi team deal bringing them, Paul Gasol, Lou Williams, and two #1 draft picks in the future, that would leave them: 1 this year, 3 #1’s for 2013, and 2 for 2014. Their future would be bright. Thats not crazy brother. Its totally doable, and smart.

You wouldn’t want a team consisting : Aldridge, Ryan Anderson, Jamal Crawford, Andre Drummond, Michael Kidd- Gilchrist, Terrance Ross, Donatas Montejunas, Jru Holiday, Thaddeus Young, JaVale McGhee, Lavoy Allen, Spencer Hawes, and Nick Vucevic?

I say my team would be more of a contender than anything Doug Colins, or Rod Thorn could come up with, Their trying to hold on to Stinkadala.

I would be on board with your plan in paragraph 1&2 but this organization does not make moves, they just compete and watch the train pass them by. No hope for them with the way this organization is run. They are clueless. All I can do is root and hope they play hard without talent…

At least Billy King is running the show anymore. That trade he made – Gerald Wallace for a lottery pick was an intellectually challenging trade.

and Zeller is not better than Vucevic. He’s not even bigger than Vucevic, or as skilled in the post, nor as physical. Your totally disallusioned if you think Zeller is an impact player. Not that Vucevic is impact either, but I saw some real talent from him. I see vague potential from the skinny Zeller.

GMCliff has been on L Aldridge for a while but I don’t see anyway Portland trades their only big-time player..
Some Rumor from Charlotte who traded SF C Magette to the Pistons and need a #3 Player on their Roster..
76ers Send Iggy, Jodie Meeks,Elton Brand & #15 Pick to the Bobcats for
their #2 Overall Pick & their underachiever PF Tyrus Thomas (6-10 225lbs) who makes $7.3 Million..
76ers then Send the #2 Pick, Evan Turner, SF Thadd Young and 2013 1st Round Pick to the Lakers for Kobe Bryant so he can finish his Career in his hometown of Philly…

In defense of my NYK why wouldnt Steve Nash go to the Knicks? Maybe because his former teammate amare stoudemire is there? perhaps he wants to win a championship before his career is over? seriously dont make me laugh man. I dont see anyone rushing to become a 76er.

Dcar- I couldnt agree more with taking a chance and grabbing Sullinger. He reminds of a young Charles Barkley very undersized but plays big. He is a bonified scorer and will average at least 16 points a game. Tell Elton Brand to Fuck off and start Sullinger. Then the Sixers can change they’re names to the Philadelphia Buckeyes (along with Evan Turner)

They are not going to trade the 15th pick. But they never said that they werent going to trade a player or more to get into the top 5 and keep there #15 pick. Anything can happen and there could be a plethora of guys moved during the draft and have already seen movement before the draft with guys being moved for picks.. More to come. Iggy may be apart of a draft day trade that may involve multiple teams..

Reports are that the Sixers want the #7 or #8 picks in this years draft. But in my opinion they need to shoot higher than that. I would trade Dre & vucevic to the bobcats for the 2nd pick & they will still have the 15th. They can draft thomas robinson & terrance ross.

Starting Lineup

Jrue Holiday
Terrance Ross
Evan Turner
Thomas Robinson
– Center-

Here’s a question…..Who was the last player drafted from Ohio State that was impact, other than Michael Red taken in the 2nd round? Who?!!! Dennis Hopson? Greg Oden? Evan Turner? LOL!! Hell No!!! Don’t put much stock in draftees from Ohio State, they don’t pan out in the pros.

Does anyone honestly think the sixers will do anything to but stay the course? Only reason they might is that new ownership wants to make a splash! I wouldnt even minded if they kept Iggy as long as they can get a bonified scorer. I do understand that Iggy would in all likelyhood be a part of the package to get the “scorer”. He really could be a good # 2 option. ahh what the hell.. trade his ass.

Knicks sucks ass. With that said….

I really hope the Sixers have a chance to draft Austin Rivers. Not only would it give good TV in games against the Celtics, but the kid is a scorer through and through. Thats what this team needs. He’s young, athletic, and can score. He is going to be a big time star in the league and I want him to be a star with the 76ers.

I heard rumors that the Sixers might trade for Bynum, that would be great as well. If not, sign Kaman.

PG: Jrue
SG: Austin Rivers/Turner
SF: Iggy/Thad
PF: Lavoy
C: Kaman/Bynum

I’ll take either of these scenarios.

Lamar odom may be a clipper come next season
Looks like the Celtics are trying to move up so they can draft Austin Rivers

I too like ARivers, ive been a fan from the start of this whole thing. Looks like hes beginning to shoot up draft boards, teams are recognizing his potential. I expect him to be a star in the league. His game translates better as a pro over the college level. He may go in the top ten unfortunately.. Terrence Ross will not be there at 15 either, he ll be gone a few picks before.. The sixers may have to move up in order to snag a difference maker because teams are aggresively pursuing these guys…

Jon Hart
Jon Hart
June 28, 2012 6:28 pm

Everyone thinks its gonna be a PF or C at 15 but the real dilemma the sixers had in the playoffs were the long stretches without scoring the ball. The defense was great but they just cold not score. They need scorers so i believe what Rod Thorn said a few days ago was a smoke screen, I think they really want TRoss or ARivers or a DWaiters, flat out scorers..

To be honest JH, I don’t see any real Differnece makers in this Draft, It’s a good and very deep Draft with lots of good Forwards, and some decent Big guys and lots of Wing players.. but a real differnece maker, a Kylie Irving, Derrick Rose, Blake Griffin, Kevin Durant type of Stud.. I just don’t see it..

Paul, this isnt the NFL draft, trading down for what just to do it? There has to be a reason why you trade down. They will not be trading down, they will be picking at 15 and may add a 1st round pick but we’ll see. If Rivers is there at 15 you dont make a bone head move and let him go to a division rival.. again this is not the NFL draft paul.
