Riley Cooper And Colt Anderson Out For Sunday

The Eagles will be asking a lot of rookie free agent wide receiver Damaris Johnson this week.  The rookie will be returning punts for the Birds, and will probably find himself on the field as a wide receiver.

Slot receiver Jason Avant doesn’t have the speed to threaten team outside, but Johnson does, so should anything happen to the starters, DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin, the rookie will be in there.

The reason for the Eagles only dressing four wide receivers for the game is the health of Riley Cooper.  The third year wideout is recovering from a fractured shoulder blade and ruled out for this game.

The Eagles will only be dressing four wide receivers this weekend.

Special teams standout Colt Anderson will miss the game as well.  He’s recovering from off season knee surgery.

Eagles WR Corps still needs another piece and continues to slip versus other WR Corps around their Division and the competition in the NFC …
3 Smallish players who can only take limited hits (D-Jax/Maclin & D Johnson)
1 Slot CB who cannot get sepeartion or run away from LB’s (Avant)
1 big Target in Cooper who isn’t fast, can’t catch and always seems hurt..

Everyone sees this Eagles WR Corps as a real strength, but I don’t buy it, I think they are afraid of contact, injury prone and have no one to make the tough catches late in games and in the red-zone..What happens if either D-Jax or Maclin get hurt.. what other WR puts any fear into opposing Defenses.. that’s right no one..

The tandem of Plaxico Burress and Damaris Johnson would be enough to bridge a potential injury gap. Hell, I’d even consider giving Chad Johnson a call. He probably more than has the quickness to still be an effective slot receiver and doesn’t have a horrible injury history.

PLax will probably be signed somewhere once the season starts..That way his money won’t be guaranteed. Hopefully its in the Eagles plans..Just makes so much damn sense. His size could do wonders for Vick on 3rd down and in the red zone. Find somebody else to play special teams…Teams don’t even return the football as much anyways due to the sport getting soft.

For the love of God, they are NOT bringing in Plax to be a 4th-5th WR, back-up, when he can’t play Special teams, or do anything else, but be a red-zone threat. Every year it’s the same thing with you guys, Fat Albert, Plax, Donovan, Plax, etc. BLAH, BLAH!!! WE DON’T NEED HIM! IT’S NOT HAPPENING, unless one of our top 3 get hurt. NOT HAPPENING!!!! STOP IT ALREADY! WTF!!!!!

Yeah, while we’re at it, let’s bring in TO & Chad Johnson, to be our 5th & 6th WR’s & bring back Vince Young to be our 4th QB! Idiots!

Why run Wide 9 this week? Knowing Im playing a rookie QB and knowing the Browns will probably protect him by running the ball to thier best player (Richardson)and quick passes there is no reason for me to start this game by giving them big holes to run through. Theres noway I run the wide 9 against a team that cant throw. Run it on passing downs only, would be my game plan. Its useless if they are runninng the ball. It only helps them out. If they do throw I would hope our d-line can still pressure them in the conventional 4-3. Take AWAY the run FIRST!

OK fellas can someone answer this one for me. As the game is changing into a no huddle game were do you see our boys or Andy reid adjusting to this. I just watched coach speaks with Brian Billick and John Harbaugh and he(John) was talking how he is starting to call plays at the line kind of like how Peyton did. And we all know the Eagles built a team to fly to the QB but calling plays freely at the line keeps your opponents in check by gettin getting them into certain packages on the field and playing chess with them.

Our defense is to small to stay on the field like that against a jumbo package that runs the ball like the ravens and pittsburg and so many other teams in the league we are a fastball team . And being Mike Vick cant read defenses how will he play the game at the line and compete with other teams?

My though with this is that Andy is banking on it not picking up THIS year with Vick at the QB spot and hopefully wins enough games that he can stya around to work with Foles. As we aLL saw this preseason Foles has no problem looking at a defense and chsnging the play on the line.

What do you think??

I agree Dag 100% and would use the same “stop the run” first Defensive Front 7 Scheme against the Browns,Cardinals,Ravens,Steelers,Panthers and TB Bucs and the NFC East Competitors to make theses Teams more 1 Dimensional Offensively.. I see these Teams,if they were smart, attempt to pound, pound, pound at the Eagles Front 7 and look over the Top off of Play-Action for big plays down the field which is what Teams like I mentioned above do well..

so far i’ve read in this thread that Foles is a combination Peyton Manning, Brady with a little Joe Montana sprinkled in. He reads pre-season defenses like nobodies business. he had some success against pre-season non-game planned defenses that consisted of a lot of players now on the waiver wire.
I also read that some bloggers here no how to game plan better than AR–

Funny stuff HAC..
You failed to mention that Foles attracts the ladies like Joe Namath did and can Punt the ball like Otto Graham used to, back in the day..

haha @ haveac

– no I did not see plenty of proof of Foles changing plays at the line…in fact Foles was not blitzed that often, so why change a play? I do recall a play where the running back adjusted from single back to empy back field, as if it was part of the play, not a play call….I think this is the play that you are confusing, saying Foles changed the play…but really he didnt, it was part of the play

Avant cant run away from lb’s? Stop dude. Your using the scenario that both Maclin and Jax will be hurt..who will step up? WTF had recievers to cover the holes losing your 1-2 punch would create.

I understand feeling the Eagles wides arent the biggestbut theres probably 2 wide out units i like over the Birds. Pack and Steelers. …..you can have the Giants…no Mannignham and Cruz dropped 3 easy catches last night…too hung up in a salsa dance or celebratign a 20 yard catch.

Foles had vanilla defenses and incase you didnt watch our back-ups were mch better then other teams in the p.s. Means the special teams unit will be good.

Foles is a backup for next two years….book it.Nobody noticed our second teamers across the board were better then all 4 teams second teamers? And last time i checked it vanilla.

Who would you trust in a must win game against the Giants end of year…Vick or Foles?Come on,hes a rook and i like his game but you guys callin for his era to start are out of touch. Vick finished strong last year and yes he got whacked on one play…the other was him staying in the pocket and he was fine after 30minutes.He was stepping up and not bailing on the play.

Foles is a backup for next two years….book it.

Incorrect.

1 – He’s going to start or play in at least 3 games this year while Vick nurses whatever injury-du-jour he’ll have at the time.
2 – I believe its probable that Foles actually starts several games to close out the season.
3 – Foles will be the QB next year. Do you not recognize what town Vick plays in? If he has another career average season + misses a couple with injuries….then the pressure to put Foles in will be insurmountable. There’s already a significant portion of the fanbase calling for the guy now, after the pre-season…..can you imagine what its going to be like if the Eagles go 8-8 or 9-7 and Vick misses a good chunk of time???

Eroc your “who would you rather have in the 4th….” question is interesting, because it propagates another Vick myth. That he’s a clutch player. He isn’t.

A better question would be….”why would you want Vick in the 4th quarter at all as his career “accomplishments” show the guy deteriorates as the game gets into the second half.

Over his career…
Vick has thrown 72 first half TDs and 39 2nd half TDs. 65% of his TDs come in the first half….and only 35% in the second half. How does this compare to his contemporaries?

Brees 50/50, Brady, 53/47, Manning 1 53/47, Manning249/51….are those guys too elite?

Lets find someone else with the 65/35 1st to 2nd half tds….oh here’s one….Colt Mc….ah shit…I assumed he’d be one, buyt even he’s at 45/55…..I’ll look again….Found one!! Ryan Leaf was at 65/35 % wise. Good company!!

Over his career…Vick has thrown a whopping 22 4th Q tds. Wow. That’s amazing isn’t it? And a whole 3 last year. (and 2 of them in the completely meaningless final game against Washington) SO yup…whtn the chips were down and the games were tight in the 4th last year….Vick threw….wait for it….ONE TD. This sounds ecaxtly like the guy I would want leading the offence in the 4th Q.

And as for combacks….Vick has 10 in his 10 year career. 10. His contemporaries?

Mannin 1 35, Manning2 21, Brees 19, Roethless 20, and on and on….

Vick’s “superstar” status is a myth. He is not a “game changer”. He is not a second half player. He does not lead comebacks. He is not “clutch”.

My point is….why would you want him in a “must win” game? His career results are mediocre (and I’m being kind) at best. Why wouldn’t you want to try someone else?

Vick is in the Bottom 1/3rd QB’s in today’s NFL
I read Erock’s postings about Foles and even Edwards facing Vanila Defense’s, not games plans, etc,etc and yet when VIck was playign against many of those Vanila defenses, he did absolutely nothing.. What 1 or 2 First Downs this SUmmer when Vick was QB.. Did Eagle Opponents game plan for VIck but not the other Eagle B’s Face it, Vick has not shown the propensity to learn this Eagle Offence in his almost 4 Seasons under MM & AR..
Do take note that almost every QB who has come thru Philly has excelled in this very QB Friendly System from D Mac, AJ Feely, Jeff Garcia, K Kolb, Kafka, T Edwards and now N Foles.. I don’t understand why so many are pinning their hopes on the Steet-Playoer Mike Vick to master this System for it’s not going to happen, I simply don’t think he’s bright enough football wise to adapt, pre-read and adjust on the fly as it’s required to playing in the fast-paced NFL.. I hope he proves me wrong but after 10 Years in the NFL, VIck is what he is, a great athlete who plays QB in the NFL, but there is a huge difference between being an Athlete and a true NFL QB…

I mean for god sakes Mark Sanchez has led 9 4thQ comebacks in 3 years and he’s terrible….he’s only 1 behind Vick. How can you possibly hold up Vick as a guy you would “trust in a must win game?”

Faith is one thing, but blind faith in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary is another.

how many games has Vick/teams had the lead at halftime? Blowouts, considered? Possibly the team Vick played with ATL was a running team, not a passing team…how many 4th quarter drives or games did Vick win or influence on ATL, by running the ball? Again, Vick is not the typical QB, and back in ATL where he’s played the majority of his career, he definitely wasn’t….sooo, just shut up already….

VV ‘a significant portion of the fan base is calling for Foles now’, don’t you realize the fan base doesn’t know crap? They also called for Hoying, Feeley, Garcia, Kolb etc. They don’t know anything, they aren’t in practice every day. I have zero faith in vick but Foles mania is utterly stupid at this point! I hope he is another big Ben but it is way too early to anoint a third round QB as the next great thing.

I will continue to call them like it is.. Vick is exciting and fun to watch, but I have little confidence in him leading this Team/Franchise to a legitimate Super Bowl due to his lack of consistency, his inability to adjust and take advantage of blitzed like the Top QB’s do and and his overall reckless protection of the ball.. It’s very simple RT77, I would rather have 12 other QB’s running this Eagle Offense than Mike Vick.. I will root for him but that’s my honest assestment of him as QB and this Eagle Team…

Realtalk…”how many 4th quarter drives or games did Vick win or influence on ATL, by running the ball?”

The question was answered earlier. 10. Running, throwing, “balling” whatever. 10. That’s how many times he was the QB when his team came back to win in the 4th Q. 10.

Half of the number his peers amass over the same period of time. Half.

Look I know my pointing out that he has the same 1st half/2nd half TD% numbers as Ryan Leaf stings a bit…….but as they say….the truth hurts…..

What I am saying Gotta, is that every QB who has played in the Eagle System has played very well and probably their career best while an Eagle as compared to the other “Systems” that they have played in.. another words the Eagles System is a very QB Friendly System where a decent QB should put up great numbers as a Starter..
