The Eagles have put injured center Jason Kelce on injured reserve and re-signed free agent center Steve Vallos, who was on the roster throughout training camp and the preseason.
Kelce’s knee was examined today and the Birds decided there was little chance of the second-year center returning to action this season. Placing him on injured reserve means he can’t play for the team this season.
Dallas Reynolds took over at the center position for Kelce after he went down on Sunday. He will be the starting center for the Birds when they take on the Arizona Cardinals this Sunday in Glendale, Arizona.
Reynolds did a good job of replacing Kelce on Sunday. He plays an integral role of getting the protection called before snapping the ball to Michael Vick. Kelce had made a lot of progress in being able to read blitzes and make the proper line calls.
Reynolds will need to step in there and pick up from where Kelce left off. He’s not as good of an athlete as Kelce, but he is familiar with the system and will be counted on to do the job.
In other NFL news, NFL Films President Steve Sabol died today after a long battle with brain cancer. Sabol is the son of Ed Sabol, who founded NFL Films and helped to greatly increase the popularity of the NFL.
“Steve Sabol was one of the most influential and innovative people in the NFL community”, Jeffrey Lurie said. “Football benefitted so much from his unique vision and incredible ability to bring fans closer to the action. He was also a joy to be around, an endless source of energy and ideas. All of us at the Eagles will miss him, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.”
Rest in peace Steve. I’ve spent countless hours for more than 4 decades enjoying what you and your father created. Thank you.
Two backups on the O line and facing a very good D Sunday
Going to be tough
Wonder if Chad Hall will get a call since Maclin is in doubt
Kudos to Steve Sabol ! Back in the day he took the game to a higher level. He made it an art and a science. Filmed and ran it in slow motion with music and poetry made it ballet. He pioneered close -up sweat and tears drama on the field and told the real story. Why do we love the game? Steve Sabol is one the reasons why.
