The Philadelphia Phillies lost their second straight game on Friday night, falling to the Brewers 8-5. Their record drops to 26-29.
- Cole Hamels can’t complain about run support tonight. The offense spotted Hamels a 3-0 lead after the first inning, but the lefty spit it back up, allowing seven runs (six earned) over five innings.
- Hamels gave up 12 hits and struck out just three batters.
- Domonic Brown is just out of his mind right now. Brown hit two more home runs, and drove in four runs to lead the team’s offensive attack. He was the bright spot in tonight’s game.
- Caesar Hernandez went 0-4 in his second start.
- Jimmy Rollins hit a solo home run.
- Mike Stutes and Justin De Fratus combined for three scoreless innings.
- Mike Adams allowed a run in the ninth inning.
- Ryan Howard went 0-3 with a walk.
- Delmon Young went 0-4, dropping his average to .213.
Final Thoughts
If you weren’t concerned about Cole Hamels before, you have to be concerned now.
At the moment, you can’t consider Hamels a legitimate ace. He finally got the run support he’s been looking for all season, and he should have seized the opportunity and cruised to an easy (and much-needed) victory for himself and his team.
But instead, he imploded.
Come on, Cole. This is why you were signed to that massive contract extension a year ago. The team wanted to build around you. The lack of run support is what it is, and it’s difficult for any pitcher to succeed when the team scores less than two runs almost every time you take the mound, but tonight they put you in a position to succeed and you didn’t answer the call.
Hamels finishes 7-19 with 4.66 ERA and perhaps the Bust of the Year for all of MLB Players earning $20 Million per Season, next to Howard, Doc,
& Alex Rodriquez, Only in Philadelphia..
Halladay Howard and hamels are not busts you nimrod! Howard has more HR and RBI than any player in BB the last 8 years. Halladay won 40 games in 2 years. Lefty had years where he lost 19 and 10 games so just STGFU you continually prove how little you understand sports
When are u going to Stop Living in the Past
All 3 Players are making $20 Million Plus in 2013 and beyond in Howard’s & Hamels case.. Why are you in such denial..
It’s called the market stupid. The past would not have happened without those contracts. You really don’t get it
I get it it HAC loud and clear, Phillies and many of their Fans don’t get it, by overpaying Players and overhyping many of their Players…
Just like the Eagles and Flyers and the ignorant Philly Faithful
Continue to soak it up and go along with the incompetence of these Philly Franchises… Can a Sport Team in Philly get any real “GM” who know how to Draft, evaluate Talent and manage a Team Payroll anymore.. The last 3 Year’s Teams have all underachieved .. I will continue to call them as I see them..
So they shouldn’t have signed Halladay? Was that a good or bad move by the GM. Hamels good or bad? You are on record as saying they were good moves.. Now the GM fucked up? It’s like the Namdi thing with you… Day of the signing you say “great signing” when he blows you say “shouldn’t have signed him” you are the worst armchair qb in history
Leading to Free-Agency, I wanted no part of CB Asmo
I wanted more phusical CB Carlos Rogers or even Richard Marshall
I was hoping like all the Teans that he would work out, but didn’t want him, like his pkay for the NFL East more style of bigger, more physical WR’s .. I was dead-on as far as Asmo being a bust and a bad fit for the Eagles and stated so many, many times leading up to that Free-Agency Period..
i pulled it right off of gcobb.com you saying you were 100% behind the asmo signing… you said it was a good signing! when i pointed it out to you your biggest defender said ‘he’s got you paul” — you said you were for it when it happened then when he was a bust you said you were against it from the beginning
Read my posts leading up to Free-Agency in 2011,
I wanted no part of Asmo and stated so many times and only supported after the fact to show support for the Team even though I didn’t like it just like VY and Ronnie Brown either..
you said ‘great move’– you are the ultimate monday morning QB — just a frustrated bench warmer–
Philly Teams have the $$$ for Big-NRjet Sognings, but not the brains and foresight to acquire the Proper Players for their Teams
Due to poor GM’s among their Franchise
Big Markert Cury with small minds and poor Takent evaluators, and GM’s leading these Teams and Gullibke Fams and Local Media to overhype their Players & Teams year after Year in recent times..
funny i was going back to july of 2011 on gcobb and fraudman and his buddy the tough guy were crowing about ‘this is the best day in sports history for philly– signing asmo, pence, babin etc…’ — then the moves don’t work and they call the gm’s stupid… revisionist historian armchair qb’s!
Fraudman playing both sides in regards to player signings and performance? I’M SHOCKED!!
