Michael Vick Backtracks On Chip Kelly Naming Starting QB

MichaelVick8

Eagles quarterback Michael Vick made an appearance today at wide receiver Jeremy Maclin’s football camp in Deptford, New Jersey and he seemed to backtrack on his request that head coach Chip Kelly name a starting quarterback ASAP.

“I was very surprised because I didn’t try to say it in a derogatory way where I felt like Coach should make a decision or there’s pressure on him to make a decision,” Vick said. “I was just asked a question, and I answered it the best way that I could. But Coach is totally involved in our team and what we’ve got going on and what needs to be done. Like I said, we’re all going to sit back and make sure that we do exactly what he asks us to do, regardless of who’s out there on the field.”

I think the Eagles quarterback has realized he made a mistake in going public to ask for Kelly to name a starting QB.  He would had a much better of getting his wish, if he had asked Kelly privately in a one-on-one situation.  It shows a lack of confidence.  It’s no accident that he is trying to clean up his mistake. Vick and Kelly got some time to talk and you see there are no more demands for naming a starting quarterback.

“Coach and I talked, and we have an understanding. I think the most important thing is the relationship that we have and continue to carry on, and the working relationship, which has been great. You’re just trying to do what’s best for this football team, and that’s the reason I came back, to try and help this football team win games in the best way possible.”
Vick clearly has changed his tune about Kelly naming a starting quarterback ASAP.

“Coach is just so straightforward,” Vick said. “After the first four or five words, you already understand and know where he’s coming from. So we talked the next day, and I sent him a text and he called me back and we talked and that was it. Like I said, everybody on that football team respects Coach Kelly and likes what he’s been able to accomplish so far. He’s grabbing the attention of everybody on our football team. We’re just focused trying to do what’s best for the organization.

“The things that I’ve been able to learn and obtain mentally over the last three months is uncanny, so I just appreciate that, and we all as players appreciate him being there for us.”

I support the team period its what I do. but in terms of the QB I am a hater no doubt, its what I do, its who I am and I hate every single thing Mike Vick does or doesnt do on the football field. i think he stinks at basically everything he does and I dont want him behind center anymore period. and basically anyone who wants him behind center does so for non football reasons because its proven he is an awful QB always has been and always will be.

speaking of supporting the team do you? all I see you do and all your name says you do is support Vick. So hopefully Vick gets cut and you never come back or Vick gets cut and you change your name to your real name (ie Fucking Idiot)

If Vick could win the super bowl the entire city would run to embrace him. But he can’t – And the people you call assholes are pissed because they have to live through another try-out for the QB that has lost 7 of his last 10 starts and turned the ball over more times per game that anyone in the league.

The real assholes are the fools who believe Chip Kelly can turn the undersized scatback (Mike Vick) into a quarterback.

Irish, do you know how many QB’s come into the league that never win Superbowls?

If that’s what you’re using as the measurements for QB’s then your list extends well beyond Michael Vick because there have been 48 Superbowls yet hundreds of QB’s have come and gone, and if you count those who have won multiple SB’s then less than 40 QB’s in the existence of the Superbowl have won it.

I have a loooooooooooong list of QB’s including Dan Marino who never won a Superbowl, so let’s cut the Michael Vick will never win a Superbowl line, when there’s a good chance 95 percent of the QB’s in the league outside of Brady, the Mannings, Rothlesberger,Flacco, might not ever win one.

Mike Vick has underachieved big time over his 11-12 Year Career
Can’t you guys see thru the BS and Self Denial and Excuses that Mike Vick is not a “Winning NFL QB” good or smart enough to ever win a Super Bowl and can’t even make the Playoffs at his late a state of his Career

Songs,
Maybe you are okay with a quarterback with zero chance of winning a super bowl starting for the Eagles but I’m not. Like most fans I would like to start the season with a quarterback that offers some hope.

As far as most Eagles fans are concerned, there is only one quarterback competing for the starting job that has been given a 10 year try-out, and he has proven, without a doubt, that he does not have what it takes to win a super bowl. That quarterback is Michael Vick.

A season with Vick at quarterback is a wasted season – he can’t win now, and he will be gone in the future. That is the way most Eagles fans feel.

I think Chip Kelly is going about this correctly with a fair and balanced QB competition, this way whom ever gets the nod is Chip Kelly’s guy and obviously the best QB on the team. Let’s all agree to back the guy Chip chooses after his careful examination of all of them.

Can we agree to that fellas? If not…why?

Songs these clowns couldn’t give a straight answer in the other thread. You know the one where you asked “what does it say about foles if he can’t beat out vick”. You see, it was never about routing for the best guy. That’s why they moved the goalpost and started creating conspiracy theories that the competition isn’t a real competition. Kelly already has his mind made up; league in collusion with black qbs; blah, blah, blah.

So why even bother with a injury prone, turnover machine with no upside left
In his 33 year old body and mish-mash head of his after taking the many hits that he has over the Years.. Vick will end like M Ali at the end of his Boxing Career which was sad to see..

Vick is the QB…forget about Foles!

Elway went to the playoffs in 9 of his 16 years.

Of those 9 trips to the playoffs he amassed a relatively incredible 17-7 record leading the Broncos (often by himself) to 6 Superbowls. Winning 2 of them.

6 SUPERBOWLS you putz. He may have only won in his last 2 years, but each and every year before that he gave his team an opportunity to compete for the title.

Mike Vick is a playoff joke.

Your hero has a scintilating 2 and 4 record in the playoffs an hasn’t one a playoff game since 2004. The only 2 victories coming with what? 74 and 117 yards passing after the other teams gave up 11 turnovers (or something like that). He could have kneeled down every snap and they still would have won those games.

Why I am even humouring you on your completely ridiculous comparison is laughable in and of itself itself.

Lamest response ever…who cares if a qb has no speed?…Brady, Brees, Manning, and Flacco dont play in Chip Kelly’s offense. Nick Foles doesn’t have the arm strength or smarts of any of these above mentioned QB’s.
Bottom Line…he’s not that good because if he was…someone would have offered the Eagles something for him in a trade!
The best QB on the Eagles is Mike Vick…you can hate him all you want…who cares…Vick will get the job fair and square..and the best thing that has happened for Vick is getting rid of Andy ‘passaholic’ Reid!

Good thing we have no idea what exactly this offense entails. BTW welcome to the site. That being said I think your mistaken, Vick is not a good QB. Bad decisions, bad stats, going into year 12. We have no proof that Foles isn’t as smart as any of those QB’s. In fact all of his coaches say quite the opposite. Also we were offered trades for Foles but the EAGLES turned them down…that was reported on many outlets around draft day.

Thanks for the welcome Xevious…We have gleamed certain clear indications of what the offense includes Xevious…1-Read-Option play…We all know that Foles can’t run this and he is no threat has a runner…for all of the coachspeak about how smart Foles is Foles…who offered the Eagles anything of any significance for Foles? Teams got a good, extended look at Foles last year…why didnt anyone at least offer a low 1 or a high 2 for Foles if he is a QB with any significant potential?
Foles…nice kid…not much talent!
Who stepped up and offered the Eagles at least a 3rd rounder for him? No one! What were the trade offers for the kid.
As for Vick…we were relieved of his biggest problem….Andy ‘Passaholic’ Reid….that was Vick’s biggest problem…a QB cant be successful if he is getting atrocious coaching! Reid’s last two years here were amongst the worst coaching I have seen from the Eagles since Richie Kottie!
Give the new coach a chance with a run based offense, big tight ends, and a QB that can make all of the throws and help the running game.

I have to disagree with everything you said. Foles showed a lot of potential last year. Teams were asking to trade for him and the Eagles said NO. The Eagles wanted to keep him, the reason being they see the potential. Vick’s biggest problem has been and always will be that he is a not a good QB. His career numbers are mediocre at best. Great athelete bad QB. Chip Kelly has said a million times he will fit his offense around his QB’s strengths. BTW for Foles not being so smart or not having much talent he came out better than Vick after OTA’s and camp according to reporters. If Vick was a good QB down in Atlanta maybe Andy would be mor to blame, but Vick’s the same guy here he was there. Time to move on. Just want the best for the Eagles.

Songs, 3 million isn’t that much for a veteran QB tryout and thats what this is. Don’t you think if NFL teams thought he was good he would get a lot better money someplace else? The Cardinals traded for Carson Palmer who isn’t that good either. They could have had Vick and paid him nicely…they passed. If the Eagles thought he was that good why not pay the full contract rather than risk him leaving? Answer is they weren’t worried if he left they could find a veteran back up to take his place. The truth is right there. Three million dollars is nothing to the Eagles…It’s a tryout…If he wins more power to him. Im just being Honest here. I dont want Carson Palmer either, Who BTW had a lot better stats than Vick career wise.

The “reporters” along with the rest of the Vick-haters had him run out town. All of the pundits and so-called experts had the Eagles cutting Mike Vick. So of course, Foles is doing sooo much better than Vick at the OTA’s according to the ‘reporters”.
However, the best reporter and football analyst in the city-GCobb- says they spent a lot of time on the Read-Option and Foles didn’t look so hot on that. GCobb didn’t say that Foles is doing a whole lot better than Vick. Also…Xevious you keep saying that Foles had offers and the Eagles said no…but from who? For what?
Vick is the best QB on the Eagles for what Chip Kelly wants to do: 1. RUN the Ball! 2. Be able to use the whole field because of his strong arm 3. Experience and Athleticism

See, I ask these questions to show the hypocrisy of racists Philly fans. they use Vicks 11 seasons without winning a SB as an arguing point claiming after all that time he’ll never win a SB, but when examples are given QB’s who played longer before winning one they change the discussion. If the answer truthfully it would only magnify their hypocrisy.

It took Elway 15 years to win a SB, but he was very, very good over those 15 years.

Vick hasn’t won a SB in 11 years, and he’s been mostly very very bad over that time.

Elway – good

Vick – bad

The only time he won a playoff game was when the other team gift-wrapped it.

He had one chance to elevate his team and got his ass handed to him in Philly.

Then he complained that it was cold outside.

As many as 20 Pkayers will rotate in and out
A Positive is opening up with 3 Games in 11 Days to start the Season vs Redskins (maybe no RGIII), the Chargers fly east to Philly with a new Coachibg Staff, then KC flys in on a short week (Thursday night)
With a new Coaching Staff also
I envision many Players getting many snaps and opportunities
To play and perform..
I see 3-4 Defensers getting most snaps
DL F Cox, LB’s Barwin & Kendrick’s,
CB B Fketcher and Safety Nate Allen
Many others will be in and out..

I think the D will be better simply b/c I think they will be more disciplined – not so much b/c of a talent upgrade – talent wise I think we may have downgraded actually – BUT discipline will go a LONG in improving the offense. Not missing assignments, being out of position, tackling, etc.

We still may get burned by some of the speedier receivers, but just not making the mental errors, knowing where you’re supposed to be, who to defend, TACKLING etc. will go a LONG way to improve things and make those close games a bit easier to win.

Ahh The defense, I have a feeling this thing is going to be a mess in the first half of the season. They are talking a 3-4 4-3 hybrid…Ill call it an organized mess. Were gonna have career down linemen playing OLB and basically a whole new secondary. If this mad experiment works it still probably won’t look good until game 6-8. Fact is though I have no faith in Billy Davis at all. Which means the Offense HAS TO BE EFFICIENT AND EFFECTIVE. Which makes the QB decision that much more important. You cant have two out of three of your units making mistakes or your gonna be 2-14. Billy Davis has a bad track record and im really fearing the worst defensively. 2-14 or 1-15 I guess we will be ok it worked For Jimmy Johnson and the Cowboys at one time…..

Far and away the most important issue facing the Eagles is “who will be the starting QB”. So it makes sense that people will talk about that subject.

If you are tired of the discussion, you should stop reading this page, I guess….. problem solved!

Yes, the ‘white man’ has undermined Michael Vick and has destroyed a definite Hall of Fame career.

Wow the sixers are awful and going to be the worst sixers team ever this year. That 2014 1st rounder better be lotto protected because they are guaranteed the top pick next year or at least the highest odds for the #1. Lmfao

Ok ok I love the trade holiday for nerlins and a 1st rounder. So we get 2 shots at wiggins next year potentially. Nice. Gonna be a longgggg year for the sixers

Why ????!!!!!

Noel is a skinny, one trick pony, shot blocking bum; He isn’t even a scorer. To trade a number one pick next year, in a year you really need 1st round picks…You trade it, and arguably the best player on your team….for a skinny bum, with a bum knee…..

What the hell are you talking about Mhenski?

GMCliff, would have drafted Giannis Adetokunbo at 11, and traded Evan Turner to be in a position to get another 1st round pick in 2014, and draft Dennis Schroeder.

My objective would be to draft both Andrew Wiggins, and Noah Vonleh, who at 6-10 plays exactly like Jamal Mashburn.

Sixers traded jrue for nerlins and New Orleans 2014 1st rounder! They will be awful this year and hopefully get wiggins watch these idiots sign Howard and Ellis now and ruin it.

I’m hearing OJ Mayo….Howard will sign with Houston, Atlanta, or Cleveland.

Unless Noel, or the 2014 draft pick is an All Star, this trade is unbalanced, and I am one that is of the Belief that Noel, is as much as casualty as Bynam was, and still not as good as Bynum hurt….

Ricardo Lebo should ave been the 2nd round pick for the Sixers. Glen Rice Jr, is living off his dads name. Realistically, he is a NBDL candidate. Can’t play defense a lick. Horrible pick Heinke!!

I like the guy from South Dakota; He may start before Michael Carter Williams:) You heard it here first. They will regret passing on Dennis Schroeder. I shoot better than Carter, and I’m technically disabled. I like his size 6-5, but I need SOME type of Offense.

Sixers need to sign Andre Miller as a mentor for him, and teach him how to shoot.

BTW, I cannot believe that Evan Turner is still on this squad. He should have been the first to be traded.

I’m feeling you Mhenski about the 2014 draft. I will give Heinke credit for getting 2 possible lottery picks. Building through the draft is where the 76ers have failed. I give him credit for having the balls to try to make something happen. The Eagles can learn something about being aggressive from Heinke. But, he has got to trade Evan Turner to the highest bidder during the season.

You’re absolutely correct Mhenski The Sixers are going to stink, and I don’t mind.

They will have big money next off season, and I want LaMarcus Aldridge, and DeMarcus Cousins here, along with Wiggins, and Noah Vonleh.

Bryce Brown – RB – Eagles
A pit bull and her seven puppies belonging to Eagles RB Bryce Brown were among the animals seized in a suspected dog fighting operation in Wisconsin.
The seizure took place on May 21 at Northland Pits in Fall Creek, Wisconsin. During a Friday hearing, Bekah Weitz, the humane officer for the Eau Claire County Humane Association, said one of her concerns regarding the animals was they were being trained for fighting. When the dogs were seized, she saw scarring on seven animals. We’ll have more on this story as further details emerge.

He wasn’t involved at all, his dog was breeding there and the puppies were being weaned there, his lawyer is trying to get his dogs back for him.

Off to the lake for a couple of weeks…perhaps most of the month – who knows. So no anti-Vick rants for a while. Place will be dull around here.r

Have fun – Irish, Jake, Mhenski, Paul, Dcar, Xevious, – keep the fires burning while I’m away. I’m out.

BTW – Vick should be cut before I get back!!!!

Why no Article by the G-Man about Vick being Rated as the 25th QB in the NFL By Ron Jaworski on ESPN Ranking the The Top #32 Starting QB’s for 2013
Vick an 11 Year Vet is Rated 25th out of 32 QB’s … That’s pretty Pathetic
and Though I am not a huge Jaworski Fan, his Analysis of the QB Position is usually pretty good…. Keep those #7 Jersey’s coming and why the Eagles and Chip Kelly are even wasting their Time and Hopes with ViIck in 2013 is a Joke and beyond me and is really wasting the Reps,Time & Experience that Foles and now Barkley should be getting in Year #1 of the Kelly ERA… Carry On..

Paulman, I wonder what Jaws would have rated Randall Cunningham.

You know….The guy that took his job?

anyways…..

It looks like Chip will have a run first offensive strategy that plays to Vick’s strengths, so don’t look now guys.

This team might surprise the league and Vick will probably get back to pro bowl status.

CSN Philly contends that Michael Vick “has the toughest road to the starting job” in the Eagles’ quarterback competition.
His one-year, $7.5 million contract — which includes a $3.5 million signing bonus — disagrees. Beat writer Geoff Mosher zeroes in on Vick’s age (33) and salary as factors working against him, but we’d argue the $3.5 million guarantee the Eagles made in February very much works in his favor. We suppose the Eagles could decide to save $4 million by cutting Vick or demanding a pay-cut if he doesn’t show well in camp, but it’s unlikely. Coach Chip Kelly has done his best to create an air of uncertainty about his QB race, but Vick is still the favorite.

CSN Philly considers Nick Foles the leader in the Eagles’ quarterback competition.
Beat writer Geoff Mosher believes Chip Kelly’s selection of Matt Barkley signaled he was serious when insisting his offense didn’t require a mobile passer. Mosher also contends Foles and Michael Vick’s 50-50 timeshare in OTAs “further fostered the idea” that Kelly will select the quarterback with the best overall skill-set, and not just athleticism. We’ve been skeptical there’s a true competition in Philly, but there’s enough smoke to suggest Foles at least has an outside shot. It’s just hard to get past the $3.5 million signing bonus the Eagles paid Vick.

I honestly don’t think there is a real competition for the job. I believe the job is Michael Vick’s to lose.

If you put yourself in Chip Kelly’s place it’s easy to understand why he would want Vick to be the starter. In his younger days Vick was the perfect QB for the read/option offense that Kelly ran in Oregon.

The problem, as I see it, is that the Oregon offense wont work in the NFL…. I think Kelly knows that – hence, Pat Shurmur hired as offensive coordinator.

I think the Eagles will run a read/option offense with a west coast offense passing game. That’s where I think the problem with Vick arises.
