Eagles quarterback Michael Vick spoke with reporters about the upcoming season and what he expects of himself.
During the interview Vick had an interesting quote, stating that he allowed reporters and writers to influence the way he approached the game. The quarterback said that he tried to become more of a pocket passer because he allowed the criticism that he was injury-prone impact his mindset.
“You guys act like I get hurt once a week,” Vick said. “You all did that to me. Made me change the way I played the game.”

Wasn’t it you who said not too long ago that your critics are “ignorant” and “don’t know football”?
If that’s the case, and your critics really don’t know what they’re talking about, then why in the world would you allow yourself to structure your game and your approach based around what they say about you?
But as ignorant as his critics are, somehow Vick apparently listened to them anyway and tried to change his game based around what they said? Interesting.
This is blatant hypocrisy at its finest, folks.
It was just several days ago that I had given Vick a lot of credit for keeping his head down, avoiding the media, and focusing solely on football. But old habits die hard I suppose, and just several days after being named the starting quarterback we’re back to seeing number 7 run around making delusional, nonsensical, and hypocritical quotes.
In terms of absurdity, this quote is right up there with last year’s promise that the 2012 Eagles would be the beginning of a dynasty and the quote from mini-camp where Vick stated that Chip Kelly had fixed his fumbling problem after one practice.
The idea that the media had anything to do with how Vick approached the game is completely ridiculous. I could buy the idea that Andy Reid and Marty Morhinweg put Vick in a bad position by asking him to focus too heavily on being a pocket quarterback, but not this.
Maybe to some, his most recent statement isn’t a big deal. But I think its just another red flag that shows how out of touch Vick can be at times and how much he just doesn’t get it.
Its another example of Vick passing out blame and pointing the finger at everyone but himself. He’ll throw everyone from his teammates, to the media, to the cheerleaders under the bus before he’ll stand up and take full and complete responsibility for his play without in some way taking a shot at another party. That’s not what a great quarterback or a great leader does, and this is just one of the reasons why I don’t believe that Vick is going to be much better than he’s been in the last two seasons.

That’s a huge misconception…most people that follow the team be it fans or media aren’t sitting around actively rooting for the guy to fail. We have the same goal.
We want the team to do well.
Because of his past history on the field, Vick has given people plenty of reason to doubt whether or not he can succeed. I’ve seen enough of him since the early 2000’s to firmly believe that he’s not a championship caliber quarterback, but that doesn’t mean I want the guy to fall flat on his face.
Until today, I had been legitimately impressed with him. Nowhere close enough to change my opinion of him as a player, but enough to take my hat off to the guy for shutting up and working hard to earn his job. And certainly I still do. How Vick carried himself to this point was impressive, and if you read any of my previous work to this point then you know I’ve had nothing but positive things to say about him since the preseason began.
Have you ever played football before Xevious? if so, to what level?

Vick, no Vick…. what has peeked my interest is a new coach that measures his game strategy not from game to game, or quarter to quarter, or even possession to possession, but rather from one play to the next.
A coach not married to a particular game plan,not constantly seeing something that he thought the could exploit; but rather one who is intelligently obsessed with putting excessively more points on the board than the other team can fathom, by what ever means will get those points on the board, be it running the ball to death, passing to the heavens, or skipping down broad street butt naked.
Time will begin to tell in as soon as two weeks, if our hopes are founded in reality. I suspect that we are once again in store for fun days again.

Before mike vick went to jail the consensus around the league was not that he was a bust. Jail interrupted his career period. I never was a huge fan of his game myself. I would get in heated debates about how Mcnabb was the better qb. post jail Vick attempted to correct the flaws and was on the correct path. anybody with two eyes can see how bad the Eagles were last year and Vick’s play didn’t help bc instead of just losing he would try to be a hero and end up looking worse in the process. Playing to Vick’s strength’s so far has looked to sent him back where he was 3 years ago in 2010. Instead lest all cry about him being named the starter like they just said Rex Grossman will be taking over and we have Andrew Luck on the bench.

I have a certain feeling about this Eagles team, I don’t know if anyone else shares it…Just my opinion.
Right now, I don’t find this to be a likeable team: You have Shady McCoy, implicated in a busing a woman during a party on a bus he rented, then kicking her out onto the NJ Turnpike; DeSean Jackson, who strikes me as just selfish and self-centered; Jason Peters, who I never liked, and every time I hear him open his mouth, I like less…I understand that these are just a few players, but they’re the Eagles ‘stars’.
Vick, I can kind of relate to him: He fucked up, but he did some hard jail time, and, at the least, seems to have become more diplomatic and humble because of it…Jason Avant has been a class act since he’s been with the team.
The rest of the team, perhaps they just haven’t established an identity here yet, even though many are vets.
Foles, Barkeley, they are still too young.
I do like Kelly and his coaching staff from what I have seen so far.
But, for some reason, I just can’t get worked up over this group…Professional athletes these days are just so spoiled and lame it’s hard for a working class guy like me to feel anything for them…But this group of Birds just don’t do it for me.

Oline play was HORRIBLE – and the starter wen 15/23 184 1 TD 1 INT and quite a few yards on the ground.

Most of the plays the Eagles ran in the first half were triple option plays – the QB decides if he wants to hand off, keep it, or pass it. Whatever Vick was seeing made him pull the ball back from the RB and pass it most times.
It’s good that it’s preseason, so we can work on things….

Brandon Graham was playing in Trent’s spot on that play but it was Connor Barwin side. Barwin didn’t pinch down when Geathers got cut blocked, Demeco got swallowed up. Chung didn’t fill the hole from the outside flat where he came in hesitent and Wolff took a real bad angle

But Foles also had Ronnie Brown – as did Vick – he managed not to fumble with Foles.
The playcalling changed drastically with Foles in. But that’s something Kelly has done consistently – the backups seem to run more of his offense than the starters – I think that’s by design at this point.

By the way both Vick and Foles looked fine. It is clear to me that Chip has been running with very little of his playbook. The defense really worries me.
Foles was running Chip’s playbook just as Barkley and Dixon were running the playbook in the first two games. Kelly DOES NOT call his playbook in the first half. That’s becoming very obvious.

1. Notice I said that’s something I said he does all the time. His playcalling drastically shifts in the 3rd and 4th quarters with the backups in – he did with Barkley and Dixon – now that Foles is the backup he’s doing it with him.
2. The line was bad. Very bad. hence the reason Vick was the 2nd leading rusher for the night. And Brown was the first. The line was bad against the run and the pass.
3. 15/23 for 184 1 TD 1 INT and 53 yards rushing is NOT mediocre – especially when there were 2 other turnovers not made by the QB one of which was def would have been a touchdown.

Sure it could of been better (especially the defense) but I’ve seen the oregon offense and they get to the line quick and Chip isn’t going to showcase any of that stuff; He’s a mastermind at what he does and I believe he has told Billy Davis not to showcase too much of our stunt and blitz packages. Besides, our position coaches are evaluating who to keep or cut. By the way, “Who in their wrong mind left the cheese out for that stinkin Vaginnie rat to come back on here spewing his crap again”?????
the massive turnover problem of 2012 has not been solved the Chip Kelly 2013 team is coughing up the football over and over again
Gonna be a long long season. Jacksonville stinks. Haha this is exactly what you should expect from a 4-12 team. We left a few td’s on the field browns fumble and Vick overthrew Celek in the end zone. Defense will get better but it’s gonna take some time. 8-8 would be a good season people.

As I’ve said all off-season, we still have the failure at QB, the secondary is still a black hole, & we have no WR depth! 4-5 wins the most. This team needed to be completely blown up, & overhauled. Vick should have been the 1st to go. Period! You don’t keep I guy, in a clearly rebuilding year, IN HOPES, of winning a few extra games. Been there, done that. It was time to move on! Whether the Vick slurpers, or bashers are right is irrelevant. Use your f^#@ing eyes. He stinks. He’s all talk, no action. Always has been, always will be. As soon as he gets the starting QB nod, he’s back to his normal self. He is 33, injury prone, mistake prone, & is not going to get any better. It’s funny to me, that some of guys, got hyped up for 22 snaps he had. Get it through your heads, WE DO NOT HAVE A FUTURE QB! That’s why, at the very least, Foles needed a chance, to prove, or disprove he belonged. He played last year, without Shady, DJax, a 100% Celek, & 4/5 of a O-line. You know what Vick brings. You nimrods spend all of your energy arguing over Vick, Vick, Vick. It’s blatantly obvious, who roots for race, & who roots for the uniform. I root for the Birds, not the name on the back. It’s over.
