The Philadelphia 76ers lost their fourth straight game on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Detroit Pistons 115-100. Their record drops to 6-12.
- The Pistons jumped all over the Sixers from the get-go. They began the game with a 7-0 run, and outscored Philadelphia 40-25 in the first quarter.
- Detroit followed up the first quarter by beating the Sixers 30-21 in the second. Brett Brown’s group made a bit of a push in the third quarter, outscoring the Pistons by 12, but it wasn’t enough.
- Detroit’s Andre Drummond just had his way with the Sixers today. Drummond scored 31 points and collected 19 rebounds, and also had six steals. None of the Sixer bigs were any match for him.
- Brett Brown shook up his lineup a bit for this game. James Anderson hadn’t been giving the much production at the two-guard spot, so Brown moved him to the bench and inserted Hollis Thompson into the lineup.
- Thompson scored six points with six rebounds and four assists. Anderson scored 11 off of the bench.
- Thaddeus Young led the team with 24 points. He also picked up four rebounds and two blocks before fouling out.
- Evan Turner also scored 20, shooting 7-12.
- Michael Carter-Williams continues to struggle with his shot (15 points on 15 shots) but still contributes in other ways with six rebounds, six assists, and (most impressive) six steals.
- Tony Wroten scored just five off of the bench today.
Final Thoughts
The Sixers seem have lost the edge that they had at the beginning of the season.
Reality seems to have set in for this group a little bit, and its becoming increasingly difficult for them to overcome their lack of talent and compete with even a team as bad as Detroit.
The Sixer defense has just fallen apart. They’re getting lit up early and often. They gave up a season-high 70 points in the first half alone today.
I didn’t even know the Sixers played today until reading this article. After reading your article I thought why wasn’t Daniel Orton playing Drummond if he was that hot. He had 5 fouls in 5 minutes LOL- The Atlantic Divison first place team is Toronto at 6-10, the Sixers are in third place at 6-12.
The Atlantic Division is an absolute disgrace.
How about the Knicks and Nets? Amare is done and Carmelo and company can’t win a game to save their lives.
Billy King sure did a hell of a job putting that Brooklyn team together. Hires Jason Kidd to be head coach five minutes after he retires from playing and then builds his roster with a ton of big name guys that are either injury-prone (Deron Williams, Brook Lopez) past their prime (Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett) or produce poorly with huge contracts (Joe Johnson).
Good point Denny. The Nets thought that all they had to do was put anyone back there to coach. So they throw another “big name guy” at HC Jason Kidd, and that stems from over confidence thinking because they assembled a team full of big names that they could still win. It blew up in their face… Carmelo Anthony just cant play with anyone, another star, another scorer, anyone. Hes a selfish player and I can see him outright leaving the Knicks to go play for the LA Lakers with his good friend Kobe Bryant, where they’ll both put up 40 shots a game individually..
I don’t see many NBA Players who are 30 + Years of Age worth Pursuing
as far as big name-“Star Players” .. Rebuild with Youth and Develop them and add a couple of Role PLayers that are Veterans is fine..
What has Carmelo Anthony ever won ?? or a Joe Johnson, or a Deron WIlliams etc,etc … stay away from the has-beens..
Billy King is a bit similar to Rueben Amaro: Both graduates from top scholastic universities, but lacking in common sense and strategic sports vision.
They have a strategic sports vision but its blurred.. Big names wont always get it done. All it will do is put butts in the seats..
