The Eagles should not be the only NFL team Philly fans root for the next two weeks. I’m thinking playoff picture. If I’ve failed to mention already, the Eagles will win the NFC East. We will finish as the three seed, and we want the New Orleans Saints as out matchup. Here is my logic and explanation.
With how I see the NFC standings finishing in the regular season, the Eagles will face the Saints and Panthers in the first two rounds of the playoffs. I would personally prefer to host the Saints and not play in the Superdome where the Saints are currently undefeated this season.
The Panthers have also been terrific at home with their only loss coming week one to the Seattle Seahawks. The Panthers are a younger team, they don’t have the playoff resume, and I don’t see the home field advantage as strong as the Saints have.
You may differ with this opinion, but we have a better chance of moving to the NFC Championship game if we begin the playoffs hosting the Saints.
The 49ers will eliminate whichever team wins the NFC North. The 49ers will be the sixth seed, and head to the home of the 12th man. The 49ers have split the season series with their NFC West rival, and we need to hope and pray they can find a way to beat them for a second consecutive time. If the 49ers found a way to win, the Eagles would host the NFC Championship game.
Some fans think the Eagles will somehow find a way to miss out on the playoffs this season. I’ll provide some comfort, and erase that fear with this helpful observation.
The Dallas Cowboys are a bad football team. Have you watched their games the last two weeks? They are quite friendly to the teams they play. Their defense could care less about stopping the run or pass. Their quarterback shares the football to the opposing defense in the fourth quarter interceptions.
The Eagles are the better football team, and will win the division. What happens with the other playoff contenders is also quite important.
I have outlined my reasoning for the opponents and in what order.
Either the Saints or Panthers are your first round playoff match-up. There is a chance the San Francisco 49ers could come to Philly as well.
Who do you prefer as your wildcard weekend opponent?
With Week 17′s match against the Dallas Cowboys shaping up to be a showdown for the division, Denny Basens and Jeff Kolsky are planning to get a group together to watch the game at XFINITY Live, and we would like to extend invitations to any and all readers of GCobb.com to come out and join us. We sincerely appreciate all who read, comment, and make this website great, and we’d love the opportunity to meet some of the readers and experience a great game together.
Good post Mr.Kolsky
I think you hit it directly on the head. Having NO come to Philly would be PERFECT just bc of the fact that they are a dome team. With the 12th man, weather conditions, I think we could pull out a tough win. If anybody could beat us however, its Brees. Hwever, I find that highly unlikely considering the circumstances. I also believe we could beat Carolina at there place. It would be tough! But definatlety doable. Going to play SEA at there house though man sounds intense.
What would happen for SF to come to Philly?
SF would have to lose at home to ATL and then on the road vs. ARI. The Saints and Panthers would both have to go 1-1 in their final 2 games.
Now a bunch of tie breakers with conference and divisional ties would come into play if something like SF and CAR both lost their next 2 games, but I can’t see that happening.
The Falcons are a bad football team, and SF and CAR are very good football teams. Look for SF to win out, the Panthers to win out, while the Saints struggle with putting up points on the road, and the Panthers defense does a better job controlling Graham/Colston who had a pair of TD’s each in their previous matchup 2 weeks ago.
C’mon guys…The Eagles need to win both of these games to be ‘for real’.
All these potential match-ups would be great Tests for our Eagkes, but I think they need to take care of the Bears on Subdayvwhich is going to be a very difficult match-up across the board..

I would love to meet the entire GCobb family……except E0S. Give me a time, and I will make every effort to be there.
It’ll all depend on what happens with the flex scheduling for that game…so we should have a better idea of exact times soon, keep an eye on the site and we’ll keep you posted. Hope to see you out there GM!
Drinks are on Denny
Sure thing Denny…:). Would love to meet yourself, DCar, and Biggie as well..
Would love to meet you GM, but man oh man I need to see Jake. LOL
Same here Biggie!!!
I think GMCliff said checked bringing TS Johnson
LOL
dallas is going to lose to the skins tomorrow, think cousins is going to win in a bit of a shootout. 35-28. eagles will handle the bears 27-21. hello playoffs.
That sounds good to me doggie!!!!
That’s to much like the perfect storm the saints come here then we play the panthers and hope the 49ers knock off the shehawks and the 49ers come here in the NFC championship sounds to good to be true .
Everyone is sleeping on Cam Newton. At 10-4 they are a team you do not want to face in the wild card. Steve smith and Cam newton along with a viable run threat from the three headed monster of DeAngelo Williams, Jonthan Stewart and Kenjon Barner, the eagles wouldl have their hands full……if not their asses handed to them easily.
Asses handed to them easily….you’d like that I’m sure. Go Newton!!
Noooo Vinnie…. I would simply like to screw your mother AGAIN!!!!! She joining me at Xfiniti tomorrow night, you should bring your bitch ass out to discuss with me and mom how I can correct the gene and lineal errors that produced your dumb ass.
…..so you’re a necrophiliac?
Damn dude, you should seek help.
The Saints are 35-26 on the road since 2006, 21-12 from November through January.
This is one of the best if not the best road record in the league.
I think people perceive that they are weak on the road because they are so awesome at home, but people are wrong.
I don’t know why anyone thinks this defense facing Drew Brees and Graham is a good idea, regardless of where it happens.
Agreed. I’d MUCH rather take my chances against Carolina.
Hell, I’d rather play San Francisco than New Orleans.
The Panthers run a more methodical Offense
Than the quick scoring Saints
The Panthers Secondary is also a little shaky if you can pass-protect
I would rather see the Eagles face the Panther’s a 100 Times out of a
100 Times than face Brees,Graham,Colston, Sproles and company..
The Eagles match up well with the Panthers’
The Eagles match up well with the Panthers.
The one thing the Panthers do well is go on slow methodical drives. They will eat up 8 or 9 minutes on the clock – so there is no room for three and outs or punting against them.
With that said – This defense has a better chance against Smith and Olsen than they do with all the weapons NO brings to the table.
Panthers Offensive weakness is their OL and specifically their OT’s where I think Cox,Thornton, Cole & Graham could get consistent pressure on Newton in the Passing Game
RB Mike Tolbert is a load and difficult to bring down, decent receiver out of the backfield and good at picking up blitzer’s also
He’s listed at 245lbs but probably closer to 255-260lbs as a Back..
The College Bowl Starts this afternoon with some good NFL Propects
To check out
Fresno States QB D Carr, TE, WR & OT
USC – WR M Lee, some DL, LB
Washington States – Safety D Buchannon, WR, CB
And TE
Buffalo – OLB S Mack
Carr is so overrated as a prospect……Lee is going to be a stud in the NFL if he stays healthy…. Mack is the next stud defensive player who reminds me of former NFL player Derrick Thomas
Bears LB Lance Briggs to play versus the Eagles,
No doubt he’ll be rusty and not play every snap, but will still give the Bears Defense a lift.. I am not having a real good feel about the Bears Game,
Too many distractions this week in Eaglesland..
Should they play certain players, last weeks debacle, Holidays, etc,etc..,
Bears are Playing for a Playoff Spot too and will come in focused and ready to play for 60 minutes, I hope the Eagles do too, should be a barn-burner..
I think the Bears are going to put a hurting on the Eagles, I just can’t see us stopping their receivers.
The meaningful game will be next week.
I can’t remember a situation where you had 2 teams (Eagles and Bears) both fighting for a playoff spot where the 2nd to last game of the season could actually mean nothing to either team. Very odd.
I still say if your Eagles, you Play to Win no matter what the Cowboys do..
Nothing comes for granted in Sports and with the Eagles
They need to get back to their winning ways and beat a Team that is equally trying to make the Playoffs also.. A won over the Bears means that even a Tie in the final game vs the Cowboys wins the NFC East,
I know it sounds crazy, but why not give your Team the best chance to Win every time out.. The last Hone Game of the Season, in gront of a National TV Audience, I hope Kelky has these Pkayers up for the chalkenge of best a high explosive Team like the Bears who are hitting on all cylandirs Offensively with both a good rushing and passing attack and can match the Eagles up and down the field.. Cutler has killed the Eagles the last 3 times he has faced them too .
They better get to him early and often for if he gets in a rhythm and has time in the pocket, it’s all over for the Eagles Secondary,.
“I still say if your Eagles, you Play to Win no matter what the Cowboys do..

Your on the money with this here Paulman! We need to win out…cant take any breaks…we need to win. I believe our defense is just a little bit better than the porous Chicago defense and we should be able to force a turnover or two.
We need the offense clicking on all cylinders! Foles has to be sharp…Chicago has Briggs coming back..which might give Chicago a little boost against the run..he may be rusty but he is a experienced vet…he can probably knock the rust off real quick! We are going to have to be effective throwing the football!
