After The Game, Nick Foles Talked Like A Franchise Quarterback

NickFoles11Eagles quarterback Nick Foles has been making his case to be the Birds franchise quarterback.  He’s set records at the quarterback position this year, but he made quite a statement on the field last night with the season on the line and his offensive line getting outplayed.

Foles game last night impressed more than his seven touchdown performance in Oakland because he was battled the shadows of the first Cowboys game.  The offensive line wasn’t at the top of their game versus the Dallas pass rush.  The wide receivers were struggling to get open against man-to-man.

What do you do?  Do you start throwing the ball all over the field as a quarterback or do you keep your composure, take the hits and take care of the football?

Foles did the right thing on the field, then he went into the post game press conference and talked the way a franchise quarterback is supposed to talk.

“We believed in each other the whole time” Foles said last night in response to a question about how the Birds fought from a 3-5 record to a 10-6 record.  “We knew  that it was a process.  When you’re building something, When your’e building a company, when you’re building a team, when you’re building anything, you have to realize that it’s a process.  There’s going to be growing pains.  You’re going to have moments where it’s looking great.  You’re going to have moments when it’s not so good, but it’s during those times that you stick together.”

Foles sounds like Steve Jobs firing up his staff during an Apple meeting.  He doesn’t talk with the same fire, but the conviction is there and his teammates believe in him.

The six-foot-six Texas-native has bought into Chip Kelly’s philosophy of getting in as many reps as possible in every practice to the point where you don’t have to even think about what you’re supposed to do during a game, you do it automatically.  You must try to get better each and every rep, each and every practice, each and every meeting and each every day.

“The guys did a great job coming to work every single day and pushing each other”, Foles continued.  “There wasn’t a day that we sort of sat back and just went through the motions.  We push each other get better and we have to continue to do that.  Just because we won the NFC East title doesn’t mean that we can just coast, we have to keep working and keep progressing everyday.”

Your quarterback has to be a leader.  When he talks the players must respect him to the point that he says and make them want to follow him.  The second-year quarterback has eliminated any talk of the Birds drafting a quarterback with a top pick.

Last night he talked about the changes you have to make from game-to-game to get the train back on the tracks after losses.

“You’re going to have to make adjustments”, Foles said. “Players as well as coaches adjust everyday. If we get beat throughout a game we’re going to make corrections.  We’re going to move forward. make adjustments.  We’re going to make sure we’re better the next week.

Congrats to Foles. And Congrats to the Eagles for finally having a legit QB since Mcnabb in his prime. The garbage this team has put at QB the past two years has been comical. Kolb, Vick, Kafka…. lousy. Vince Young was better than all three.

Foles showed something last night that I’ve never seen Vick show when under pressure. HEART! He stood in the pocket and look hits like a man. He didn’t run around like a fairy or wince in pain each time he was touched.. like a certain left handed QB.

Big, 15 starts as a QB, how many starting QB’s with his experience show a ton of poise when pressureis coming up the middle like it was last night. With experience he will continue to get better. There was improvement last night against the cowboys defensive game plan against him. Foles made 3 nice completed passes last night under duress. Some people want to act as if Foles has all this game experienceand should be able to handle everything thrown at him immediately. He is a work in progress and is doing damn good!

OMG, enough already, It’s really irrelevant…they both are dependent on each other to help produce enough offense to get wins. Win as a team…lose as a team! If one plays a lousy game….take the first Dallas game, it impacts the others performance. If one is clicking, chances are the other will be too!

Foles is not above criticism. It is not just songs that continually move the bar for OUR QB… The kid has been historic let alone WINNING, yet these fools have openly minimized his achievements, endorsed QBs of color who have similar (actually inferior) accomplishments. I will not get involved with these small minded bigots. I addressed you because while you are not them you seem to empathize and even legitimize their small minded ness.

Collingsworth is not an Eagles fan, he’s a commentator.

That’s the point. You expect people to be critical of Eagles players, Collingsworth also said McCoy needs to run behind his blockers and stop freelancing.

What you don’t expect is for Eagles fans to rush to a message board to criticize Eagles players after they clinch a playoff spot.

But, as we all know, half of the people on this site are Mike Vick fans not Eagles fans.

Keep moving the bar Vick-Trolls….if he beats the Cards…..if he beats the Lions….if he beats the Bears…..the only game that matters is if he beats the Cowboys….what now? He is a “game manager”…..that is the best that you have got? The QB finished with the 3rd best QB rating in the history of the NFL…he threw 27 TD’s with 2 INT’s….he lead the team to a 7-1 record in the last half of the season, but I am sure that you will all tell us about how he is “ass” and how he doesn’t have an arm to play in the NFL.

After a season of reading the absolute bullshit that you all have posted about this guy, now you want to dimish any accomplishment by calling him a “game manager”. If that is the best you can do, then you can watch him manage the Eagles games over the next decade, while winning divisions and playoff games and hopefully a SB. He is a strong silent type of leader that does not get caught up in the highs and lows of a game or season. He deflects praise to others and accepts blame when needed. We are lucky to have a player with his skills and good decision making. Turnovers kill games and put pressure on defenses. Having a QB that can “manage” not to turnover the ball in crucile situations is a huge thing….just as any Cowboy’s fan.

GO BIRDS!!!! PLAYOFFS BABY!!

I vow not to engage the 3-4 racists on here who move the bar on Foles, demand better performances from him than they do by their idols. It is the same excuse making they had for their hero only in reverse…’he has a good defense’ um all the top young guns in the NFC playoffs (oh that’s right he won 7/8 and got us in) have superior defenses. They are showing idiocy at the highest level. Let their stupidity and ignorance keep them in their lowly stations in life.

Both the offensive and defensive lines struggled last night, and I’m not sure why. Orton was kept safe all night long and no matter what we did, we couldn’t get near him. Foles on the other hand had pressure in his face most of the night. It isn’t often that a team loses the battle in the trenches on both sides of the ball and still wins the game, but the Eagles pulled a rabbit out of their hat.

I saw the same thing E-money. I thought that the pass rush was not making it…but I also believe that there was a lot of holding going on, and it was not called.

In general, I also think that division games are generally always close unless there is one team that absolutely stinks. You play them twice a year, every year, and it means that you have a ton of experience about what works and what does not, and who you have a good matchup with and who you do not. This year the Eagles have had some luck with having a new coach and system, but they still know our personel very well and know how to get the matchups that they want. I figured that it was going to be a close game, but a whole lot closer than I wanted to see.

G… It’s about time people start reconginzing that we got something special in Nick Foles. Don’t recall Breeze or even Manning have a great breakout year the Foles has had. He’s smart, makes decisions on the run, at the same time learning the game the way Chip is teaching him. Yes he’ll makes mistakes, but all quarterbacks make them also, even the good ones. Give him time! He’s our St. Nick for a long time! Merry Christmas everyone!

Ok…I can dialologue with you a little here Songs…the thing is Chip doesn’t have a certain type of guy. If you go back to his history at Oregon, he’s brought in different QB’s with different skill sets, some were pocket guys, others were more mobil. Chip said his type of guy is one who is a good decision maker, does not turn the ballover and is accurate. Chip isn’t pigeon hold to a certain type of player…he clearly stated he will design his offense around the player. Drafting a QB high is a waste that I will bet my ridiculously nice salary will not happen.

we’re talking about a back quarterback with ability like Kap, so if Foles goes down the team won’t miss a beat.

Shouldn’t the Eagles draft that guy in the 3rd rd if available?

That’s cheaper than Vick and could and can be groomed to take the team to the next level if something happens to Foles.

Songs, no this team needs toooooo much defensive help to play around with drafting a QB in the third round. You seem stuck on Foles going down. Seriously, if he does, howsoon is that 3rd round QB going to be ready to come in. Take a QB in the much later rounds and groom him to battle Barkley for that back up spot. There’s a QB at Va. Tech, 6’5, mobil with a strong arm, his problem is inconsistency with accuracy. Probably a mechanical issue that can be fixed with coaching. Our first four rounds we need safety, OLB, WR and CB help. Injuries is a part of the game. If Foles goes down, Chip will have to design his packagesaround the next QB up. You can’t draft out of fear or contingency!
