Eagles Preparing For How Brees Will Use Running Backs

DrewBrees1With a passing offense that is highlighted by the likes of Drew Brees and Jimmy Graham, the New Orleans running attack is an aspect of their offense that often overlooked.

However, Eagles’ defensive tackle Bennie Logan says that the defense has taken notice of the running backs in the Saints’ offense and they’re preparing to see a lot of different looks.

“They come at you with a bunch of different formations for each player.” Logan said on Thursday. “We should be able to recognize certain plays based on the tendencies we can pick up from watching the film, but you never know what they’re going to hit you with from the backfield.”

The Saints use a running back by committee approach, featuring a mix of guys like Pierre Thomas, Darren Sproles, and Melvin Ingram.

Thomas is the guy who receives the most carries out of the backfield, leading with the team with 147 attempts. The veteran averages just 3.7 yards a carry, but he’s got a reputation as a very reliable player that Brees and Sean Payton can count on. He’s also logged 77 receptions for over 500 yards and three touchdowns.

Darren Sproles comes off of the bench, but he’s one of the Saints most explosive weapons. “He’s such a threat out of the backfield, and he’s very difficult to account for.” said Logan when asked about the shifty running back.

Sproles has 71 receptions for over 600 yards. He’s one of the go-to guys on third down, and any time he touches the ball, he’s a threat to score.

With Thomas and Sproles combining for 148 receptions, the Eagles should expect to see a lot of looks for both players as receivers. They might not have the best rushing statistics, but they’re an important part of this offense and should not be forgotten.

Next to Graham, Sproles scares me the most. In my opinion, if we can contain both of those guys, are odds are improved.

All of the local radio shows are saying how it’s going to be in the single digits on Saturday night but the weather channel is only showing a low of 27 degrees. Anyone know why there is a such a big difference in forecasted temperatures?

Not sure where you are looking, but I think that the high temp on Saturday is supposed to be around 25-27. The low I think is about 20. It will definately be colder than the Benz SuperDome.
