Congratulations is in order for Eagles offensive guard Evan Mathis, who will making his first trip to the Pro Bowl in Hawaii. It’s long overdue because Mathis has developed into one of the best guards in the NFL over the last few years. The former Cincinnati Bengal, who should have been a starter in this year’s Pro Bowl, but was voted only a second alternate.
Mathis has been cleaning up everywhere else. It’s token awhile for him to get his recognition, but now that it is coming, it’s coming in the overflow.
Mathis was named All-Pro First Team by the Associated Press, which is really a better acknowledgement of his quality play than the Pro Bowl. The Birds left guard was also named to the PFWA All-NFL team.
In addition to that, Mathis was named the Top Linemen in the NFL by Pro Football Focus, which does an outstanding job of analyzing line play in the league.
But I thought GMCliff said Evan Mathis was not ‘all that” and not an Impact Player and was Overrated and simply not worthy of being on the Eagles Team and that the LG position needed upgrading.. He said this many times last year and even the beginning of this Season.. and now he’s saying the same thing about Rookie RT Lane Jaohnson…. Someone check on GMCliff.. he is slipping in his Analysis of what a Good NFL Player is anymore.. …
Evan Mathis is an absolute animal. If he is not the best offensive guard in the NFL I don’t know who is.
He is also a very nice dude – I sat and talked with him for about two hours during a benefit event this past November. It was like hanging out with a friend.
Yes he is, just can’t understand why a smart and good Football mind like GMCliff doesn’t see what 90% of the People who watch,study and analyze Football & Players for a living see about Mathis.. That GMCliff must be one smart cookie…
