Notes From The Sixers’ 107-99 Loss To Washington

mcwpistonsThe Philadelphia 76ers lost their third straight game on Monday afternoon, falling to the Wizards 107-99. Their record drops to 13-28.

  • Michael Carter-Williams broke out of his two-game slump, dropping 31 points to go with six rebounds, five assists, and three steals. MCW had shot just 6-29 in the previous two games.
  • Evan Turner continues to struggle, scoring just 11 points on 3-10 shooting.
  • Spencer Hawes had a pretty poor shooting game, connecting on just 5-15 for 11 points (including 1-7 from three point range), but did a pretty good job on the boards, gathering 16 rebounds.
  • Thaddeus Young scored 18 points along with three rebounds and a steal.
  • Hollis Thompson gave the team a nice spark off of the bench, putting in 13 points in 31 minutes.
  • Dewayne Dedmon picked up five boards off of the bench again. Four straight games in which Dedmon has five boards or more in limited playing time.
  • Elliot Williams went 0-8 and picked up five personal fouls in just over 29 minutes off of the bench.
  • Tony Wroten missed today’s game with an ankle sprain.
  • The Wizards led 100-79, but the Sixers made a late push to score 13 unanswered points to make it an eight-point game with just over two minutes to go.

Final Thoughts

We’re at the halfway point of the season, and the Sixers have a 13-28 record.

A lot of people, myself included, thought it would be a stretch for this team to even win 15 for the entire season.

In the second half of the season, there isn’t much to look forward to with the team in their current state, but there are going to be some interesting things to watch for.

The team is worth watching right now just to see how Michael Carter-Williams continues to develop.

After the All-Star break, MCW will at some point be joined by Nerlens Noel.

The Sixers can also be expected to trade away guys like Evan Turner and Spencer Hawes, likely in return for even more future picks that will help Sam Hinkie’s vision come together.

There have some people saying that they are against Nerlens Noel playing this season, and I am not sure why. The kid suffered his ACL injury a year ago. With todays medicinal technologies that is more than enough time to come back and play especially when he is only 19 years young! Why not let him play 15-18 minutes a game after the All Star break to allow him to be more accustomed to the game? He’s already had coach in his ear the whole season telling him what to look, and watch out for. Sure watching and spectating his opponents can be helpful, but nothing is like playing the game itself. There is no reason to sit him the rest of the year with no playing time whatsoever, and then come back next season basically a rookie with no playing exp. This will put a small dent in the teams rebuilding process if that occurs. Let him play a few minutes. Nerlens Noel is not going to save the season, and allow us to have an extraordinary amount of wins that will affect our lottery based on is limited playing time anyway,

Another thing, stop saying he is not going to last in the NBA. Is there a chance he wont? Yeah. But that is the case with every player. I’m sick of hearing “His frame is too small.” or “He’s too skinny” HE IS ONLY 19 YEARS OLD. Still plenty of time left to grow.

**Sixers News**

According to my source, the Sixers are still in search of a first round pick for Evan Turner, Spencer Hawes and Thaddeus Young(though they would rather keep Young and Hawes I’m hearing) each. I’m being told that they’re looking for first rounders anywhere around the 10-15 range. I’m hearing the Sixers are calling teams frantically in an effort to strike deals before the upcoming trade deadline. But teams are uncooperative due to the asking for a 1st round pick in the 2014 NBA Draft in return.

My thoughts: It’s going to be rather difficult trying to get a first rounder for each player, even if its picks 10-15 which is still considered “lottery picks.” The Sixers may be forced to take on large contracts if they want first rounders in return because this is the deepest draft since the 84′-85′ season, or even the 03′-04′ year.. Lets hope they can get 1st round value for Turner and or all three guys..

Moultrie went to the 87ers to begin game shape rehab in D-league.
LA Lakers ran out of players the other night playing against Cleveland, they were only left with 4 eligible players because of injures, fouls and tanking. What a disgrace for the NBA-
New Orleans is currently the 10th or 11th worst team so the Sixers look like they are going to get their first round selection this year.

As I Stated all Season
None of the76ers Tradeable Players
(ET, Thadd or Spencer Hawes returns a Top
#15 Pick from anyone). The 76ers would have to Package
At least 2 of then together and then that becomes difficult with
Returning matching Salaries,Players in Return
Their Best scenario is Trading one of these 3 to a contending Team
Who has a need and get their Pick in return which is a late 1st Rounder in return, and not a Top #15 Pick..
The 76ers are finding out what some of us already know and that is
There is little demand for ET, Thadd or Hawes who are nothing
But 2nd Team Players off the Bench for the Quality Teams
Thad Young would probably be the most desirable since he’s the most Arhlwtic off the 3 but still not a Top #15 Pick from anyone

The Kings are the only buyers in the trade market this year. Never would have guessed that. I thought they made a mistake not retaining Tyreke Evans but Pelicans have him on the trade market now too but with a bad contract anchor.

The Sixers are willing to trade all three but do not mind keeping Thad and Spencer. But for ET, they want him gone im hearing. They’re all having a career years, especially ET. Let’s hope Hinkie can pull this off with his willingness to take on more salary in order to get that 1st round picks. We need as many 1st’s as we can get. And like I said months ago before the season started, this draft is deep from 1-20 so stocking up on picks is imperative for our Sixers..

Im hearing that the Sixers are a lock to be “super active” as the deadline approaches with multiple deals on the table for Evan turner and Spencer Hawes. We’ll talk about Thad in a minute..

The most talked about deal involves the Bobcats sending Ben Gordon and his expiring contract along with a 1st round pick in this years draft (Unclear if its the 1st rounder from the Blazers or Pistons, more than likely its the Pistons pick because that’s the one that will fall around the 10-15 range, exactly what Sam Hinkie wants) for Evan Turner. This deal may go down in the next few days.

I’m also hearing the Mavs have interest in both Turner and Hawes. But not only the Mavs, but also the San Antonio Spurs, they have also expressed interest. Now the Spurs have a late first that they’d offer up along with Boris Diaw. The Sixers would like to package both guys in a deal but would keep Spencer if they have to.

Thaddeus Young expressed his dislike in the current direction of the team early on in the year. But I’m hearing the Sixers plan on keeping Thad, barring a team “blows them away with a deal,” keeping thad until around draft week or night where they can package the 1st round pick from the pelicans and thad in an effort to move up in the draft.

The 76ers Front Office (Hinkle) may be very busy, but I am hearing that no one is real interested in the 76ers players that are on the Trading Block, outside of Thad Young and only a couple of Teams who are Playoff Bound and that have late 1st Round Selections to offer… Hearing no one is interested in Evan Turner

sounds like Evan Turner is returning to the bench as a sixth or seventh man –
I don’t buy the 10-15 draft pick —
anyone who would take Turner would do so for a playoff push, it the Sixers think they are getting a late lotto pick then they are admitting they believe Evan Turner will help ensure the failure of that playoff push
