Sixers Trade Spencer Hawes To Cleveland

haweshotThe Philadelphia 76ers have dealt center Spencer Hawes to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for two second-round picks, and forward Earl Clark.

Hawes is a talented center with a nice offensive game, but struggled with consistency throughout his career with the Sixers. The Cavaliers are determined to make a playoff push, and adding a talented big man like Hawes to their mix will help that cause.

Without Hawes, the Sixers now have a huge void in the middle of their starting lineup. LaVoy Allen or Branden Davies would figure to pick up most of Hawes’ minutes.

The Sixers wanted to get a first-rounder for Hawes, but a haul of two second-round picks for a guy who was set to be an unrestricted free agent is still pretty good. NBA second-round picks aren’t as valuable as NFL second-rounders, but a quality GM can still pick out some nice talent in that round.

Michael Redd
Monta Ellis
Marc Gasol
Carlos Boozer
Gilbert Arenas
Manu Ginobili
Mehmet Okur
Stephen Jackson
Rashard Lewis
Isaiah Thomas
Chandler Parsons
Omer Asik
Glen Davis
Anderson Verejao
Marcin Gortat
Paul Millsap

These are all examples of guys taken in the second round recently that have turned out to be quality NBA players. Sam Hinkie himself is responsible for drafting Chandler Parsons of the Rockets. If there’s a GM in this league that has a chance to bring back a quality piece with those second rounders, its Hinkie.

Its a move that will make the Sixers considerably weaker, and much more likely to finish with the league’s worst record.

Evan Turner Update

According to ProBasketballtalk.com, the Sixers have lowered their asking price for Evan Turner, and are now willing to take back a second round pick.

Arnett Moultrie……… we sent a future first round pick when we received the rights to Moultrie from the Heat as they did not wish to give the $ awarded to a first round pick. Do we even mention this d-league worthy player as a “must start to see if he has anything to give?”

I just learned that if the Sixers miss the playoffs again next year then the Moultrie for a future first round pick to Miami is dissolved and the sixers owe the Heat nothing.
Lavoy Allen is a restricted free agent so he probably get the start. Maybe the Sixers sign Dewayne Dedmon who they had for two 10 day contracts this year at center.

All jokes, & ball breaking aside, I like how Lil Winkie Hinkie, is stock piling picks. We are practically guaranteed a top 3 now. This should have been don, 3-4 years ago. Enough with the lingering in the black-hole of mediocrity. In the NBA, you have to get bad, to properly rebuild, & get lucky with getting some young studs. This year, is our opportunity.

however i want to add/ask the NBA followers on this site…isn’t it still luck of the draw? I mean if you are bad and get the 2 pick and it happens to be Durant… you win the lottery. or your bad and the 2 pick that year is Turner…?? If i’m not mistaken there were no ‘lebron’s or durants’ the year turner was drafted?
i understand there are some players in this draft but….

hac, it’s different this year. The year we drafted ET, it was well documented, to be a very week draft, & we also drafted the wrong guy. Monroe, Cousins, & George were rated higher than him, on most mocks, & ET also was not a fit. That was more of ineptness, than luck of the draw. This year, the top 5-6 players are either going to be studs, or at least very good. Also, this draft is going to be at least 20 players deep, in legit NBA contributors. Next year is supposed to be solid also.
