I’ve listened to every interview given by Chip and Howie since the season ended. I’ve read, and re-read the responses to questions asked by the media. I’ve allowed time to pass since Sunday, a game in which winning felt more insulting than beneficial. The reward is a later draft pick, shutting the door on the 2014 season in which no playoff games will be played.
I feel no closure and a bit hesitant with my trust going into the off-season. First things first, how the Eagles handle their money is extremely important as we approach the off-season. The Eagles need to look at areas where they can shed cap space and spend their money in free agency.
Yes, some of their own guys will need new deals, but I don’t want to hear how the Eagles are in the top three with how much cap space they have heading into the 2015 season. It’s been several little splash signings over the last two seasons, a collection of “next” tier players. Time for the check books to write the fat contracts, now is the time to make some noise and get “Pro Bowl” talent; especially in the defensive secondary.
The draft; it’s almost as if the majority of players selected by the Eagles in 2014 will merge with the 2015 class for playing time. The Eagles can’t screw this draft up like they did last year and only have contribution from a single player taken.
Secondary, offensive line and quarterback are the first three things that come to mind for needs in the draft. The only “project” that should be taken is at the quarterback position. We need proven guys with our other selections.
I don’t see Sanchez returning, so the Eagles will sign some veteran in free agency, and they need to land a top cornerback, safety and a linebacker who has experience playing inside and outside in the 3-4 scheme.
It’s really difficult to “move on” from the season when the playoffs have yet to begin. We can only watch to see how far away the Eagles truly are from being at the level of the yet to be crowned Super Bowl Champion.
Whatever label was previously given to “year three” of the Chip Kelly era, throw it away. It has no usage as year two ended in a way that nobody predicted.
It’s not a move or two; or one play here or there that sums up the season. How to fix this team, a list of wants and needs, one that will continue to grow and grow as we look back on a season that simply “collapsed” and it’s quite messy to begin cleaning.
I have faith that Chip and Howie can get the job done, but my trust is very fragile. I’m going to be a bit more hesitant to part with it moving forward.
Kind of a silly argument. Jeff when AR was fired at 4-12 if I told you the next coach would go 10-6,10-6 and make the playoffs one of the two years you would have done back flips . Yes the three crushing losses put a crap taste in our mouth… As it turns out the wash loss meant nothing we could have been 11-5 and missed the playoffs. .
I meant silly article
It’s not the record that has me speaking this way. We had the lead in the dallas game after falling behind, we made no adjustment on Dez, the turnovers, the offense becoming a bit obvious at the end, the “1” player who really contributed from the 2014 draft class, and I could go on. I won’t speak of the ‘could” haves and “should” haves. The Eagles were 9-3. I was at the Seahawks game, it became obvious we were not at their level. We were 9-4, still in control of NFC East, and what took place after that is a large reason for this article.
round 1 – marcus smith – maybe a bust, maybe not. obviously billy is clueless. not to mention he wasnt taking coles, grahams or barwins job his rookie year. let the kid develop. 50% maybe more 1st round picks dont work out… give it some time. also see fletcher cox, he was once dubbed a bust…maybe a bust, maybe a winning pic, maybe a losing pic
round 2 – jordan matthews – great pick, great production, great, great, great. winning pick
round 3- Josh Huff – showed a little, made tons of boneheaded plays but also showed some potential.. will be eagles #3 wr. winning pick
round 4 – Jaylen Watkins. maybe a bust, maybe a win or maybe a loss. who knows at this point
round 5 – Taylor Hart. Dline depth. who cares. 5th round picks should and do take a while to develop if they ever do
round 5 – Ed Reynolds, who cares, we never get safeties right. who knows what he is. but probably poop
round 7 Beau Allen. rotational player… looked good in preseason and didnt look like slop when he played in the regular season
way i see it we got 2 NFL starters for sure. one of which Matthews looks like and has demonstrated he will be an above average nfl player
so what was so bad about it? 2 of 7 right is not bad at all for an nfl draft. not to mention another 2 could pan out. whats the problem? what specifically should they have done differently? dont tell me they shouldve found more impact guys, tell me who you thought at the time not now?
don’t forget Trey Burton who is an absolute STUD on special teams and will probably become a good backup TE along with being a great special teamer. He could have been worth a 5th round pick.
Jeff,
In what round would you draft a quarterback ?
I’m thinking 3rd. Once all college players declare, I will hit the books, watch the tape and figure out the names I would target.
They have two developmental QBs … Does Barkley stink ? Those of us on a blog think he does ! However those at the facility might feel differently.
Barkley was taken because he was “once” a 1st round graded QB, who got hurt and USC had a terrible season his SR season. Chip knew him from his days at Oregon, and a 4th round grade would allow him to not work out and no complaints. Barkley is not the answer. As for Nick, I like Nick, but I don’t believe he is Chip’s guy, he is Chip’s best option year 3 and will be the starting QB. Some mobility, some ability to step up in the pocket, the type of QB that Nick is removes Chip from running certain plays as defenses don’t fear Nick running/buying time with his footwork. Nick Foles is Alex Smith to me, Alex can run a bit, and Nick has a better arm, but a game manager, surrounded by guys who can make plays after the catch.
oh god you didnt just say this
“Nick Foles is Alex Smith to me, Alex can run a bit, and Nick has a better arm, but a game manager, surrounded by guys who can make plays after the catch.”
WOW
there are exactly 0 similarities between Alex Smith and Nick Foles
WOWWWWWWWWWWW
Nick is asked to make quick reads and get the ball out of his hand. His arm strength is average, touch is a bit above average. I don’t think Nick is a bad QB, but I’m taking 12-15 other guys in this league before him.
he and alex have zero similarities. wrong about his arm strength its above average. his touch is probably below average. and taking 12 -15 guys over him is fair, i would probably take more than that but he is nothing like alex smith man
you say he is asked to make quick reads and get the ball out. are you sure about that? i ask because more times than not i see slow developing plays down field as opposed to quick reads and out (like they do with alex in kc)
im not trying to give you hell jeff, im just trying to understand these points
Hell? You are insighful and know football, I appreciate it. Maybe more with Alex with what I was trying to state, Nick is nice in some areas, but he isn’t a guy I feel could make that 4th quarter comeback or win a game by himself.
He has already done that kolsky, do you watch the games also, his arm strength graded out as one of the strongest at the combine by the only objective measure, radar gun exit velocity
Do Your Damn Homework before you write, post, it’s embarrassing to have you in the gcobb family
They are both White, that’s about where the similarities end…
Alex Smith is more mobile, likes to throw on the run and is a 25 Yard and In Passer relying on accuracy and timing
Foles is a pure pocket passer, has a stronger arm,
Longer release, is not very mobile nor throws very well
When on the move and must have his mechanics down
And feet under him To throw accurate passes..
Not a good comparison between these 2 QB sills set or
styles at all..
Alex Smith and Nick Foles are a shitty comparison. I feel like Nick most compares to Joe Flacco. People in Philly just dont realize the potential this kid has, and most people are just not football people anyway.
Alex Smith is a better QB than Nick Foles…their arm strength is about the same and Alex is waaaaaaay more mobile than Foles and he reads defenses better too.
The reason Nick holds the ball too long is because he struggles with reading the coverages
Lets face it Jeff…Nick just doesn’t fit this offense. If you are going to go with Nick Foles, Chip Kelly needs to redesign the offense. Cut out all of the spread formation stuff, get rid of the read option, get a fullback, get a smash mouth running game and use the play-action pass to give Foles some easy reads…employ more of the west coast offense with a short passing game…
You cant have both…you cant have a slow, immobile QB who cant read defenses running a spread-read option offense
Another embarrassing member of the family, shit for brains
The two projects are Barkley and kinnie. Jeff why do you state ‘ limits chip’ when chip has never since being an eagle gone after that type? Fired Vick, signed Sanchez, drafted Barkley, gave the keys to files. Why do u guys think u know what chip needs more than chip ?
I agree with the FA spending, Howie has to get over the dream team season n move on, the man seems like he never got over it, I’d get rid of Cole n Graham, with that money I’d go get Worlids from the Steelers, I know that wanted him last year, I doubt the Steelers franchise him again, next I go after Maxwell from Seattle, they make those two moves I wouldnt care how they fill the rest of the roster.
The problem with 10-6 this year is that they were a better team last year, Foles was clicking and we all knew that we were a couple of pieces in the 2ndary away from making a deep run. Those same issues are here a year later. Will they figure it out this year? Why didnt they see what we all witnessed last year?
Nick was brand new to the league, and so was Chip. Like when that kid comes up from the farm in baseball, until the pitchers see him a few times, get the film and scouting report, it’s up to that kid from the farm to also make adjsutments.
The defenses adjusted more than Chip/Nick. With D-Jax removed, every defense we played was open to the media that the fear of the deep pass was gone, they could stack the box, and we saw Shadd, we heard Shady, and Chip saying that.
It got better as the year went on, but Nick is going to have to play better, take better care of the football, throw ball away and not be stripped of the football or take sacks and put the offense in 2nd and 3rd situations where it becomes obvious passing downs and defenses can blitz Nick.
The defenses adjusted more than Chip/Nick. With D-Jax’s presence removed every defense we played was open to the media that the fear of the deep pass was gone. Oh no Jeff…say it isn’t so. D-Jax’s presence on the field was missed. How dare you say that. Sacrilege !!!
I found this really nice grey alternative D-Jax jersey for $20 at Ross the other year. Now I can’t even wear it….
I think the First thing the Eagles should do is to Release the Following
Players that are currently under Contract. This is no tine for Kelly & Company
To feel “Sentimental” about Veteran Players
Cutting these 6 Players does not mean that they can’t resign them
Later in the Off-Season if things in Free-Agency
Don’t go well
1) OLB Trent Cole (Due $11 Million,$14 Million & $12.5 Million
The next 3 Years)
2) CB Cary Williams (Due $9 Million in 2015)
3) Guard Todd Herremans (Due $6.33 Million the next 2 Seasons)
4) TE James Casey (Due $3.25 Million on 2015)
5) ILB DeMeco Ryans (Due $6.75 Million in 2015)
(This is toughest Cut, but an Achilles Injury is very difficult to come back
For an aging LB)
This will save Approx $35 Million to go along
With the $20 they are already under the Cap
Giving them some $55 Million to work with to upgrade
The Roster..
If Graham bolts in Free-Agency as I expect
Then bring back Trent Cole on a inexpensive
1-2 Year Deal
If Ryans fully recovers, then offer him am inexpensive
1-2 Year Deal but this likely won’t be known to
May/June so a Replacement at ILB must be planned and executed by Draft/Free-Agency
The other 3 Players (C Williams,T Herremans
& J Casey) just thank them for their time and let them pursue
Other Teams
Then Eagles should Re-Sign 3-4 of their own Players
(Maclin, Thornton & Polk)
Eagles need to inform their other Free-Agents to test the Market
And let them walk (Fletcher,Allen,Sanchez, Casey Matthews,
Brad Smith & Jeff Maehl)
In Free Agency, Eagles need to pursue
The Following Positions/Players
CB – Chris Culliver, Davon House,Walt Thurmond,
Byron Maxwell, Phillip Adams, Buster Skrine)
Who are under 27 Years of Age
Safety – Da’Norris Searcy or S Gilchrist
ILB – J Whilhoite or Dan Skuda
OLB – J Hughes or O Brien Schofield
OL – James Carpenter or Clint Boling
Back-Up QB – Jake Locker or Christian Ponder or Casey Keenum
Then Draft Secondary,OLB/DE,OL & WR
I do not list Free-Agents like OLB Justin Houston, CB Revis,
Safety Devin McCourtey, WR Randall Cobb
For I see no possible way their own Current Teams
Don’t resign them and will get very big deals
Eagles need 5 Starting Players on Defense
And signing one of these big names blows too much $$
For 1 Player considering the Eagles have Maclin,Thornton
To sign, plus start thing about extensions for Cox,Kendrick’s
& Foles..
Paul, there is an absolute certain they all could head into free agency, and not be resigned by their current teams.
Houston, and the Chiefs have been trying to work out a long term deal for over a year now, and he has rejected every offer they’ve put on the table – labeling it as insulting. Their only chance of signing him is with a 1 year Franchise Tag
– and it will go up significantly every year, while also having to resign Dontari Poe, Alex Smith, and desirable Free Agents. They could decide that it may be cheaper to let him walk – COULD – So him not being re-signed is absolutely possible…
J Whilhoite , Dan Skuda, J Hughes, O Brien Schofield, Jake Locker, Christian Ponder, and Casey Keenum – Nobody wants those bums. Aren’t you tired of the mediocrity of talent – because that’s what you just suggested
Why haven’t you listed James Carpenter as someone that will be re-signed by his team? Because that’s just as much of a possibility as Justin Houston. I wouldn’t mind him, but I’m more sure he won’t be available.
Seahawks can’t sign all of their Free-Agents
That why Carpenter & Schofield will be hit the Market
Seahawks locked up KJ Wright, C Avril and now will
Focus on QB Wilson, possibly M Lynch and still want to
Add a WR in Free-Agency and then also have Maxwell
To consider..
Chiefs will release Tambi Hali and use that $$
For J Houston who is better, younger and in his prime
So AR is not going to let him go.
The Eagles are not going to Sign 4-5 All-Pro Types at every Position
Of need for their Defense for that’s not what they do
They will get a good CB, a quality Safety & ILB and a Pass-Rushing OLB
To replace Cole and depending what happens with Graham
They invested a Top Pick in MSII just last year and I don’t see them giving up on him after 1 Season..
I think they Draft an ILB,Safety & CB to be groomed for a Season
All early in Draft.. 49ers Whilhoite had a very strong season replacing the injured Bowman and Skuta was also playing well for Willis until he got hurt and Rookie Borland took over, in fact 49ers probably cut Willis
Due to Borlands play making Willis a free-agent to grab for a year or two
To replace Ryans
So what you’re saying is that the Chiefs front office is smarter than the Seahawks, in that they will sign an important YOUNG, cog to their Defense despite the need to sign other important pieces to the team, and the Seahawks are going to forsake Offensive Line continuity and allow a YOUNG 26 year old important cog to their Offensive Line to walk, because they have other important pieces to sign………because Paulman says they will….Let’s see how this turns out……
Whilhoite , Dan Skuda, J Hughes, O Brien Schofield, Jake Locker, Christian Ponder, and Casey Keenum all suck ass…no more mediocrity please.
I am aware that Skuta played over his head in some games, but that’s not good enough for me. Williams, and Fletcher did the same thing last year, and how’d that turn out the next year?? Do you still want them???
Marcus Smith can’t play in the NFL. What you saw of him in College does not translate to the Pros…Period. If you want to continue to rationalize, like I heard you do with Jake Locker, then I respect your stance, but don’t expect me to be so gullible, when reality has already smacked us in the face.
The Browns Owner, is smart. He knows when he’s made a mistake, and isn’t embarrassed to admit it. Johnny Manziel, will not be in Cleveland very long, although he was just drafted – That’s what Cognizant GM’s do – it is what it is sometimes…
Who is your Back-Up To QB Foles in 2015 GMCliff
We know it’s not Barkley who probably doesn’t even make the Roster
In 2015 and we also know that it’s not a mid-Round Developmental Draft Pick Who Backs-Up Foles?
Kelly has Stated from Day 1 that you have to have
2 QB’s on your Roster with NFL Experience..
GMCliff hitched his wagon to Ryan Mallett as the starter ahead of Nick Foles didn’t he? He is available real cheap, cheaper than Sanchez and Locker on the Free Agent market right now.
Open competition for the job! The way the coach and the owner have talked about Foles lets you know that he is not going to be just handed the job.
They are going to bring in a vet and draft a QB…
However, they need to shore up the secondary in free agency..cant depend on rookies as starting CB’s too risky!
There isn’t much out there talent out there Paul for a backup,
– and i don’t like Locker, Ponder, or Keenum, so I would just stick with Mark Sanchez sense he already knows the system, and draft the 3rd string
– My choice, if he comes out, you already know is Jacoby Brissett – and hope for the best in terms of Foles getting hurt.
Unless you make a trade for Newton, and allow he, and Foles to compete for the starting role in training camp….There is no other option but Sanchez..
Why would the Panthers want to Trade Can Newton?
They have no other QB behind him?
Sanchez could very well be the best option
As the Back-up next Season and Sanchez does know
The System
I definitely think they Draft a Mid-Round QB
Who will replace Barkley as the #3
I think a Sean Mannion, the kid from South Alabama
I read that Bissett is returning for his Senior Season at NC State, as he should to refine his skills and gain more Game experience
Newton trade was a supposition, not a suggestion.
Sean Mannion plays for Oregon State.
and Brissett hasn’t announced anything yet, and would be ranked behind only Mariota, and Winston, if he decided to forgo his senior season in the 2015 draft. That’s what I read. Meaning no one you could suggest would have a better upside…..
That Kid you like from USC, and Petty from Baylor – Can’t touch him – 6-4 235 4.62 40 – Rocket arm, makes all the throws – Best QB draft option for the Eagles, and Chip Kelly’s System.
I know Mannion played Oregon State and a QB that Kelly heavily recruited too
and also the Kid from South Alabama
(Is it Bridges?)
Chip Kelly heavily recruited Johnny Manziel and wanted no parts of him during the draft.
Brandon Bridge is the QB from South Alabama. He too would be a good selection.
Chip Kelly has made it clear that he is bring Demeco Ryans back.
He didn’t have to ‘evaluate’ him or look at every play…Chip Kelly made it clear…he wants Demeco Ryans.
We are going to have to spend the big bucks this year and do a serious upgrade for the secondary…we should be going after Revis hard and heavy…dont allow fear of what happened with Nnamdi Asomugha discourage us
That’s Typical Coach Talk KB about a hurt, popular Player
The reality is that there is no certainty that he’s able to bounce back
And play at a high level coming off that Torn Achilles
and the Medical Staff,Coach’s won’t really know until
Late Spring/Early Summer about Ryans health..
What happens if he’s a no go? They need to plan for his replacement
During this Off-Season
Its a good list Paul. Not bad thinking. I however think they get Cole, Herm and Ryans back with reworked deals and they never actually get cut- cap hits.
I could see that Stevo, but I don’t agree with doing so,
If they were 1-2 Pieces away, then maybe I would think
Differently, but they are not 1-2 pieces away and I believe that year 3 for Chip is about forging A new identity and has a young Core of Players to do
So, and to build around, but Cole,Herremans & Ryans are all on the downside Of their Careers and are on the wrong side on 30 and not really part of the future long term success of the Eagles.
LB Ryans, I don’t believe can return to NFL form after having 2 Knee Surgeries and now a torn Achilles play LB where agility, quickness and stop and starting Is crucial to your play..
One of the big problems of AR is that he held onto
Veteran Players for a tad too long.. And I think now Kelly
Is starting his middle year of his 5 Year Deal that he needs
To add Younger,More Athletic & Bigger Players
To replace these aging, and good guy Players
The more I see of trevone Boykin of tcu the more I love him. This kid is talented
TCU d backs look like Seattle back there. Boykin has a nice handle on their offense. Bo Wallace is god awful.
Yeah mhenski..is he draft eligible??? Cause he is the qb i want…but i dont really hear much talk of him in draft.
TCU’s Coach Garry Patterson has built a nice Program at TCU
And is rarely mentioned as one of Top Coaches or Rumors of moving on..
They play Fast & Physical.. He’s done a great job there
espn puppet heads said a million times 3, 4, 5 years ago that if TCU playing in The Big 12 or SEC they would get dominated. LOL
Pat Shurmur might get an interview with Oakland.
Harry Gamble might get an interview for a GM job.
Marty Morningwieg is available.
Joe Banner is available.
MARLON BYRD GONE
TRADED TO THE REDS FOR THEIR 30TH BEST PROSPECT.
REUBEN SUCKS
Jim Haslett fired as Washington defensive coordinator
Bo Wallace needs to be benched for the good of the team and his safety. I have seen him look bad before, but his performance today is painfully brutal! He will not get drafted. maybe a FA looksee.
I saw Cody Prewitt pick off a pass in the peach bowl, you interested in him.
Yes. I mentioned him as a safety I like.
Cody Prewitt is a good safety prospect. He would be a great second round selection.
I like him 2, probably more a in the Box Safety at NFL Level
And would allow Jenkins to be more of a Center Fielder which
I am not sure is Jenkins strength since he has bad hands
No paul, Cody Prewitt is a center fielder, he is very good and active in coverage. He will hit you too as he can be physical. But in no way would I label him an in the box safety.
That sounds a lot better, for I don’t like Idea of Jenkins playing the deep guy.. Not sure of Prewitt’s Overall Speed
He goes about 6-1/6-2 and 210lbs..
Cody Prewitt…6’2″ 217 40 time 4.59. That’s good speed and range to cover with.
That’s good enough Speed to patrol the back end..
BREAKING NEWS…TOM GAMBLE HAS BEEN FIRED BY THE EAGLES!!! BEING REPORTED ON 97.5 THE FAN
Tom Gamble…fall guy for Marcus Smith pick and this draft overall? Where does this leave Howie and Chip? Is Chip next to go? Interesting off season already. Howie has flexed his muscle…as puny as they maybe.
Haha, good one eagles, howie flexing his bb guns, showing gamble the door
LOL..pop…pop goes the bb guns
Tom Gamble leaves the Eagles officially as of
An hour ago… It’s going to be the Howie & Chip Show
Look for a roster of Oregon/PAC-10 Players
Paul….I think it will be the opposite. Remember, Howie had to talk Chip out of taking Taylor Hart with the 3rd round pick. I think Howie likes more SEC type guys..he even said it….he likes SEC guys, where chip is Mr. Pac12…Taylor Hart, Ed Reynolds, Jeff Maehl, Josh Huff, keeping Casey Mathews. No thanks. Chip needs to coach. No need for him evaluating talent and picking them.
I agree, but I don’t believe that’s what Chip Kelly had
In mind when taking the Eagles Job
This is Howie using an opening for leverage on Kelly’s so-so
Season and getting Gamble out now before it got to a 2 vs 1
Deal in terms of Roster Management which
Is Howies favorite part of being a GM
I guarantee that Chip is hitting the roof right about now
And will probably be gone after 2015
You can’t make a ‘guarantee’ and then say probably… That is contradictory within the same post. Usually you wait till further down the thread to play both sides!
I say probably gone for who knows what
Prime College Programs will be available
In 2015.. It would take a Notre Dame, UCLA,
High Profile Program opening to pique his interest
But he will be looking…
Being reported that the 2014 draft is the catalyst for the hammer being dropped. Marcus Smith and these Oregon players appear to be a Chip/Gamble production and the balance of power in personnel selection is given back to Howie. Chip should coach in my opinion. I do not want him selecting talent. He is to PAC-12 biased. This leads to talent tunnel vision.
I believe this move is Howie Roseman consolidating his Authority & Power so as to be 1 on 1 with Chip instead of Chip/Gamble vs Howie
In the Personnel Area
By the way, Howie asked me to Join the Organization as an advanced Scout
For the Southeast.. I start Tue 1/6/2015 and will be on the Road a lot
BWBHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAABAAWAHAHAAAA!!!!!
We won’t make the playoffs for a century…too much mediocrity.
LOL!!! You made my stomach hurt…..bwhahaa!!!
I don’t but that Gamble gone because of
2014 Draft for Lurie just stated he is reviewing
The 2012 Draft now and waits 2-3 Years to really
Draw a conclusion on any Draft
This is about Howie protecting his turf
The fan is speculating that Chip and Gamble was in the get rid of DeSean camp, and Howie was more so pro DeSean. Howie is using the fact that the Eagles did not make the playoffs with Chip/Gamble draft and getting rid of DJax hurting the team may have had a role in this decision. It’s all speculation and entertaining, but, where there is smoke there is fire. Eagles is a soap opera. As The eagles Fly. Jeesh!
Damn. Bean counter showing who’s boss. I don’t like it.
Stevo, I think Gamble was probably more of a yes man to Chip ..focusing and backing up Pac 12 players and personnel selection. No thanks. I’ll take Howie. I/m not interested in A team full of Oregon Ducks and Pac 12 guys. This team is to finesse.
except that Gamble is not known as being a finesse finder. He finds monsters and sets them loose.
Marcus Smith is pretty finesse. All I know is I remember Chip standing next to MSII at his pro day just like he did at J. Mathews. The Eagles are more finesse though, for whatever reason. No bone crushing hitting players. MSII was finesse in college.
i believe the owner has said over and again that the GM makes the call on draft day.
Nope…Chip has made it clear that he is in charge of final roster decisions. Huff and Hart are definitely Chip Kelly picks.
draft and “final roster” are not 1 in the same.
Not looking good for the long term partnership of Kelly and Bean counter. I wonder who leaves next year,
I believe it was Howie Picks with the first 2 Selections (Smith & Matthews)
With the Rest of 2014 Draft being Chips Calls
(Huff,Watkins,Hart,Reynolds & Allen)
Remember that Roseman is Lurie’s man and an extension of himself.. The answer to your question about who may move on would no doubt be Coach Chip Kelly
I think Chip.gives ok for players he wants during draft..making him the guy.
Gamble is gone … Ho hum…
Fraudman has made a definitive statement that Kelly is back to college after 2015.
Paul unfortunately you can’t be a scout as you have to draw a single conclusion, you can’t say he’s a player on Tuesday, then on Wednesday say, “as I’ve stated he stinks’ … You actually have to commit
On my way to Aruba to Scout the Aruban League and find a CB,Punter and
Scat Back for Howie…
Not a bad gig this time of Year…
Find a left fielder.. You know from the Aruba winter league
I am still waiting for Amaro’s check to clear..he’s been known to pay with “rubber checks” here the last few Years..
Today’s terminating comes 2 Days after Kelly’s PC of when asked what he thought about Gamble “a Great Football Mind”
And was earlier asked about how his relationship
With GM Roseman was , Kelly replied with a terse
“Good, he’s a good Capologist’s”
Today’s move is a total slap in the face to Kelly
Who will look to leave Philly after 2015 no matter how they do next Season
What a Cluster it is at NovaCare
A quick look at HC Candidates for 2016 Season
1) Brian Kelly – Notre Dame
2) Lane Kiffin – OC of Alabama
3) Sean McDermott – DC of Panthers
4) Kevin Sumlin – Coach of Texas A&M
5) Jim Mora Jr – Coach of UCLA
Is Chip related to Brian Kelly?
They are “Twins”,
Mrs Kelly often says that “Brian got the Brains
While Chip got the Brawn”…
IMO stated earlier in posts ..this is a power play upstairs…chip was effusive in calling gamble a great football mind….I truly believe bill Davis as I stated earlier is the bargaining chip in this matrix…well see ,but a line in the sand has definitively been drawn..it was obvious something was brewing…gamble Ws being touted as a GM elsewhere …why axe him ? If not to send a salvo across chips bow? Look for a new DC
What’s the over under Of PAC 12 draftees? This 2015.?
Doug Morrone just opted out of his contract with Buffalo, watch how fast he becomes the front runner for every opening out there.
Reason Marrone left Buffalo was he was butting heads with the GM n wanted a contract extension, I see Chip doing the same thing.
the Sixers had a player with an opt out player option clause last off season ( BJ Mullins, ) and he is out of an NBA job now. No one wanted him. I hope Marrone didn’t leave a paying NFL Head Coaching job for nothing.
The difference is, Marrone walks away with 4 million and it already looks like he’s going to the Jets, I doubt very seriously he opted out without knowing he was going somewhere.
You just compared a coveted nfl coach to bj Mullins. That’s too funny
Eagles0SB Must be an Ohio State Graduate…
That little backstabbing weasel gets Gamble fired and makes him the scapegoat for his bullshit! The guy was below Chip and that little weasel you’re gonna tell me he had that much power to make those lame draft decisions? He helped build that 49r team with his expertise( Gore, kapenich,) What the hell could he have done wrong to get fired, obvious Howie is Jeffs man he got banner, reid and now gamble fired! Howie running this picture u can forget this team going anywhere and I doubt Chip stays here long term with this jerkoff punk panties bitch trying to run this show what a creep noway we could ever have anyone here with any football sense God forbid!!!!!!!!!!!
the same situation keeps repeating itself. Whether Tom Modrak, John Wooten, Tom Heckert, Joe Banner, Andy Reid, Howie Roseman, Ryan Grigson, Chip Kelly or Tom Gamble. Obviously Jeff Lurie gains some kind of enjoyment living within and/or creating this type of office strife. After the 5th time this has happened I’m not going to blame the participates ( Gamble, Roseman or Kelly) To me this has Jeff Lurie’s fingerprints all over it.
The team is worth over a billion, so tell me why would Lurie change?
This scapegoat system is a gold mine. He keep hiring guys to blame the get a new guy to sell hope for the next 5 year-10 years.
It’s Philly!
It works!
Actually it’s business.. Great model.
The tom gamble thing has g Cobb a flutter but I’ve been on several national sites and not a mention… Is this another blogger over reaction?
It’s playoff tine, so this is a blip on the screen,
perfect timing wouldn’t you say?
The Eagles will never win a SB.
It’s pretty lit up on Eagles sites, Birds 24/7, BGN, Philly.com. Other team fan sites and national sites are not going to carry the same weight and attention because the other fans don’t care. I don’t care when something like this happens to another team either. We are Eagles fans..it’s going to get our attention. Especially after the draft and collapse at the end of the year to knock us out of the playoffs!
So I guess the last draft will be blamed on gamble like the bad moves were blamed on Reid after he was gone.
Lurie should be the center of why this shit continues.
The focus should be directly on Jeff Lurie.
True that! He has made a boat load of money and hasn’t delivered one stinking championship…Maybe Lurie cant put together an organization that can get it done….we are stuck!
Lol let’s start A ‘fire the owner’ campaign… Um sorry there is no such thing …he would respond, um… Let’s see… Kiss my ass
New Paulman Rumor gaining legs…
Notre Dame’s Coach Brian Kelly resigns to take the Chicago Bears
Job effective immediately
Eagles Chip Kelly also resigns from the Eagles and takes
Over his Dream Job at Notre Dame..
Happy New Years to Everyone,
Have Fun, but don’t get Nervous….
And Don’t Drink & Drive …
This is what happens ,when new first year coaches are given the “genius” prodigy tag..the inevitable ,power struggle within the organization, occurs…as soon as the honeymoon is over…it’s not unlike your new obedient bride…tell me now wether she’s at your beckon call….”.not tonight .”…this will sort itself out ,but don’t be fooled..I stated unequivocally ,that something, happened that pivoted this team from 9-3 to a season of gloom..we as Eagle fans deserve an explanation..Jeffrey Lurie in his state of the franchise actually gave it to us.. ,read the tea leaves….he lauded howie roseman…he said what a great executive he is and reaffirmed his status as GM …he told you he was miffed at turnovers ,red zone inefficiency and X plays of 50 yards or more …this is a business ,based upon performance…your football team was undisciplined ,yet you needed expel bad ass characters? You took 16 games to bench fletcher …you had no ingenuity in the red zone all season long..your ducks quaked on the opening kickoff..vs Dallas…you sat an obvious weapon week after week in ertz ,(chips explanation) it was a matchup we were looking to exploit vs Washington..you gave the rock on the goal line 3 times to Polk ,and he scored all three times..yet in San Fran and arizona ..where was that coach? You allowed single high safety coverage week after week and had fletcher on an island …torched more than a Vietnamese village..don’t think Jeffrey hasn’t made a list of these things …gamble is a salvo across the bow..but it’s just the beginning of the purge that’s about to begin..there is a pattern within this organization ..of dysfunctional management …Jeffrey you are the CFO …there is only one thing worse than repeating organizational transgressions …acceptance of such practice as business as usual…this boy George culture club is singing off key …
We don’t deserve anything… We have the power of the $. Jeff Lurie doesn’t owe you one thing. He as a successful man has a way do doing things… If you don’t like it route for some one else.. He is the fucking owner! He can’t get fired… Look at deseans new boss.. He always wins the off season… His gm just proclaimed they were off season champs… But it doesn’t translate… You can’t fire the owner because, hey dipshit he is the fucking OWNER!
if this front office situation gets out of hand and chip leaves philly might just be cursed…….hac did you call desert a dipshit
Pman if you’re correct Kelly for Kelly in ND they won’t need change the monogrammed towels..happy new year …thanks Jeffrey for pissing in my champagne glass…what a guy
HAC…don’t tell me what I’m owed…I’ve invested my $$ heart &soul..I bleed eagle green..I’m not asking you to take things literally…are you drunk so early in the new year? I can verbally vent ,it’s my privilege …as can you ..but ..it’s not to be taken literally …if you indeed love a cigar …you should know …it’s pleasurable when the moment is perfect to light one up and savor it,same thing can be said for a winning football team..I do deserve the best …you may choose otherwise ,but you don’t speak for me ..my life’s just fine ..
You are absolutely right deserteagle!! Real Eagle fans have the unmitigated right to moan, bitch, complain, whine, and make demands from this ownership who has raked in major profits due to our loyalty to this team.
We deserve that moment to savor in a Super Bowl Win…
Yet there are some on here who have a strange, childlike acceptance of the: OWNER….
It is as if God has given Lurie this privileged position over us and we should just be grateful for allowing us the privilege of watch his football team, the joy of buying those jerseys, and the comfort of the Linc…where ticket prices will go up…again.
Bullshit
We have the unmitigated right to demand that the Owner bring a Super Bowl to town. As fans we have the power to bring pressure on this Owner and hold his feet to the fire of public displeasure at the dismal failure of the team. I’m not giving up my rights as a fan to demand a Super Bowl win….fans should let Lurie know that while he may own the team and make the bucks..he wont maintain much popularity in this town if he doesn’t deliver the big one…he will go down in the same ignominy of previous Owners..Tose the drunk guy, Braman…the guy in France …disgraced, failed Owners who never got it done……
I love it real eagle fans! Of course you have the right to moan, as I have the right to point out that moaning and getting angry changes nothing.
Hold the owners feet to the fire? What? He bought a business, makes a lot of money, the business has grown from like $350 mill to like $1.5 billion. There are like 75000 on the wait list for tickets, the nfl tv package, licensing package are worth billions and he gets 1/32 of it…
Look at Snyder in Washington, off season champs, fan based pissed, not showing up, selling tix for $10 but no one gives up their seats… It’s the nfl, it’s crack cocaine! They get 5 days of huge tv in March! With the combines, draft… And all that is meaningless bullshit… If you think you can DEMAND anything of Lurie then u are insane
And trust me ..I’m no dip shit …I might dip into some good shit ..but that’s a sa close as that comes ..to be literal..
The next 48-72 Hours are Critical if Chip Kelly
Is to stay as HC..
He spent a few minutes on Monday’s PC stating how “Tom Gamble
Is One if the Best Football Minds he’s ever been around”
And then to get Fired 48 Hours later is a slap in the face
Of Kelly …
Then When you hear Chip Kelly’s response on that same PC
On how his relationship amid rumors about a rift
With GM Roseman ” His reply was a terse one word answer with a stiff lip
“Good”, then when asked a follow up Question came
About Roseman, Kelly replied “He’s a great Capoligist”
This is about all you need to know about the current
Relationship between Chip & Howie,
Obviously Chip does not respect or Value Howies ability to evaluate
And recruit Talent and basically see’s him as a Contract/Salary Cap/Numbers type of guy so this Relationship is set up
for Failure..
I am leaning that Chip Kelly will turn in Resignation
On Friday 1/2/2015 for this is not the arrangement he signed up for
And he and Lurie will meet with Smolenski and they will
Agree to part ways with the term “Philosophical Differences”
That we just saw play out in San Francisco
The Chip Kelly ERA is Over …
Paulman’s Short List of the Next HC
1) Todd Bowles – DC of Arizona
2) Jack Del Rio – DC of Denver
3) Brad Seeley – Asst HC of 49ers
4) John Pagano – DC of Chargers
5) Rex Ryan – Ex Coach of Jets
6) Vic Fangio – DC of 49ers
7) Ken Norton Jr – LB Coach of Seahawks
8) Bob Stoops – Oklahoma
9) Frank Broyles – Baylor
10) Jim Mora Jr – UCLA
After that presser anything could happen with chip at this point it’s definely a power struggle
I feel ya desert I have done the same and feel like we should have raised that lombardi by now….it’s what us fans want but it is what it is
HAC
Have a happy healthy new year bro..millionaires and billionaires will sort there differences ..enjoy that happy new year cigar …
Chimp ..it’s just an NFL power struggle ..albeit Jeffrey’s got practice at divorces..both in biz and personally of late..it’s not beyond the realm of possible..I do think chip knew what was coming down ,though.. I interpreted his comments in hindsight ,shooting back at that very fact…now ,if someone calls for BDavis as I expect ,well ..hold on tight…happy new year Pman …
these damn back stage cat fights are annoying as hell….i’m drinking some gin and juice….getting lit….lol happy 2014 peeps….go eagles
Zilents44 …we just have to live long enough…even a blind squirrel finds a nut…happy new year my man ..
well I’m only 28 so hopefully we live long enough but the lord my come back before then……
I’m in AZ it’s still early ..it’s all cool..enjoy…:)
Same to you DesertEagle and all the Posters
I have to check up on the Animals and lock up the Zoo
For the Evening.. These Damn Fireworks at midnight
Are just a killer for these Animals who go berserk.
.peace out…to 2014 ..and another shot at the gold standard…dear Jeffrey ..I’d really like see a parade before I’m in a walker and can’t get there ….deserteagle…
Pman if ever I’m kidnapped and wake up in a trunk of car in Boone..I’ll buy you a round for sure..you too ..
All of this was so predictable, LOL but hey cigar you can keep defending everything this organization does no matter how foolish it is and how many times your wrong. I said before long these two idiots would be in a power struggle last year, now if next year doesn’t wind up with a playoff run guess what the Genuis will be back on a college campus maybe near you. Let the circus begin.
I prefer to let things play out lion… Kelly has a huge contract. Tough to walk on that. Maybe he will win the power struggle and push Roseman out. I have no problems with big egos leading the team… A coach with a small ego is an unemployed coach!
Which is why this move was stupid you invest a great deal of money into Kelly so let him build the type of program he wants, and let him be comfortable with the player selection the whole nine. Now every decision every pick every comment will be over analyzed was this Kelly’s guy or Roseman’s guy? Was Kelly purposely not playing Smith because he was Howie’s pick? You don’t like Djax but that move was the beginning of the acrimony between Howie and Chip you have to see that.
The Housewives of Philadelphia down there. Chip didn’t know he entered a reality show atmosphere with manicures and pedicures, gossip & cat fighting in those personnel offices. This pattern keeps repeating itself. Jeff Lurie keeps playing musical chairs with deceit, media leaks and voluminous notebook scorecards as the music. Chip appears to avoid the media like a plague so all leaks came from Howie’s cellphone the last 2 years.
I don’t know that about the Jackson move… Who was pro desean? Howie is what I read?
I don’t pretend to understand the dynamics in the nova care. I know by nature it’s a business filled with egos, when you look at San Fran and how that spun out of control…maybe chip builds this thing to a point and bolts, who knows. Personally I don’t care, it’s millionaires vs billionaires and unfortunately none of that scratch is mine. You can’t trade an owner.
I also read Howie was pro Desean. Apparently Kelly wanted to get rid of Jackson and Gamble co-signed on that. They both (Gamble and Kelly) wanted to re-sign Cooper. Looking at what Cooper did this season, and looking at what Jackson did was part of the argument Howie used to get Gamble out. Howie was not on board with this move. Ultimately, at least in Lurie’s eyes Howie was right. Once again, DJax skill set was not replaced by Kelly’s moves…not in Howie’s eyes anyway….and it appears Lurie agrees enough to back Howie.
That would be an over simplification of a very complicated dynamic. There is a lot of reaches in that statement.
This mysterious Jackson ‘skill set’ … It is so magnificent…, I don’t understand why no one wanted him… I think ‘skill set’ was made up to get people to post…
HAC…sometimes things are as simple as it seems. People choose to or not to believe certain things leading to speculation that there must be more. Sometimes, it is what it is. This isn’t investigative reporting we do here. We post our opinions based on info we have.
Skill set: Probowl player selected for both WR and ST’s kickoff duty. You don’t see that, you have not been watching. Most 40 plus catches in NFL…with mediocre QBing.
10 mil contract that’s why. it only takes 1 team.
HAC you don’t know how many teams wanted him. You, like I, only know what is reported and draw your opinion and conclusion based off of that. And….Washington definitely wanted him, so there goes that argument.
Landed… You use the words ‘apparently’ and ‘appears’ in your assessment of the situation. To me it ‘appears’ to be a lot of reaching on your part. That or you ‘apparently’ are privy to the conversations…
Taking the info I have read and making a conclusion. We all do that. Even you.
PAC 12 Guy—-Kelly
SEC Guy—-Roseman
Another conference, flip a coin.
The Eagles’ firing of VP of Player Personnel Tom Gamble has really opened up a can of worms. More power for Howie Roseman, less for Chip Kelly? According to a report from NJ.com’s Mark Eckel, Howie Roseman wasn’t too happy with the comments Chip Kelly made about him during the head coach’s final press conference of the season on Monday.
“On Monday, Kelly called Gamble “an outstanding football man” and said he did a “great job.” During that same press conference, Kelly said Roseman was good at handling the salary cap.
According to people inside the organization those quotes “infuriated” Roseman. The general manager — who has never been a scout, played the game or coached — has worked to overcome the image of being solely a salary-cap guy.
Roseman believes he has earned his job as general manager and the club’s top talent evaluator. Instead, his head coach called him a glorified cap guy. Two days later, Roseman, with support from owner Jeffrey Lurie, exacted his revenge.”
Here was the exact quote by Kelly:
“No, for me to stand there and say, ‘I think paragraph five of his contract should mean this, instead of this.’ That’s not my forte, not my strength. I’m not going to delve into that and say, ‘I think his signing bonus should be this, but let’s retroactive that and only make it for injury in the third and fourth year.’ That’s not my strength. I understand it, but that’s really what [Howie Roseman] does an outstanding job of that. I think since I’ve been here one of the attractive things about this job, there are not cap issues. You don’t look at it and go, ‘Oh, my God. We’re going to have to cut 12 players because we’re going to be $40 million over the cap.’ [Roseman] does an outstanding job of that. That’s his training.”
It’s hard to believe Roseman would fire Gamble, who apparently had a close relationship with Kelly, based on that quote alone, but it’s clear that there has been tension brewing in the Eagles front office. Things are getting ugly. Gamble even had to be escorted out of the building on Tuesday night.
Here’s another quote from another one of Eckel’s sources:
“There is no way Chip Kelly is happy about this. What the (heck) is going on there? How does Tom lose out in that battle? That place is dysfunctional.””
LOL,Gamble was looking to kick some ass. Too funny he had to be escorted off the property. This is classic cutting off your nose to spite your face, this isn’t going to end well. The Genuis at some point will take his ball and go home.
Chip Kelly signed a five year $32.5 million dollar contract. 6.5 million a year 2013-2017. Free agent in 2018.
Means little to Kelly for he can the same amount of $$$
To Coach anywhere else in the NFL or a big to line College Program
Is he chooses to leave now or after 2015 Season
The larger issue is that Chip Kelly took this
Eagles Job for wanting to have total Control
Over the Player Personnel & Roster Management
Functions of the Club which he no longer has
GM Roseman has closed the Circle and there are
2 other Scouting Employees who were close to Gamble about to
Get the boot also.. Kelly has a big ego, as we all know,
But he is not going to remain Coach of the Eagles simply as
“the Coach” for this in not what he signed up for
Or wants…
A indication to watch this Soring is how many of these
“college Workout days” will Chip personally be attending..
Remember the last 2 Years, Kelly was flying all over the Country
Attending these Workouts.. This Spring, if we see less of Kelky out there
And more of Roseman attending these Workouts
Then we know who is really calling the shots..
My guess it will mostly be Roseman out on the Trail
I like Howie Roseman and respect him as a GM.
I like Chip Kelly and respect him as a coach.
Jeff Lurie? He is a buffoon. He created this nonsense system and every time he gets in front of a microphone he double downs on his desire to sell the nonsense as a good thing. He has 3 steering wheels on one automobile.
Word is Top Agents from around the NFL
Who represent Houston,Revis, Maxwell,
Etc,etc sent a letter to Howie Roseman that their Clients have
No Interest in playing for the Philadelphia Eagles for there is too much Turmoil
A Coach & Organization that tarnishes their Players
(D-Jax) and renege’s on Contracts when the big $$
Are to kick in (See Trent Cole)
Buckle up Eagle Fans for this will be a difficult
Ride ahead for the Eagles who have taken another Hit
On how they treat Players,Staff and Executives
This is not Good any way you look at it..
WHAT THE FUCK???????????
Sources tell the Philadelphia Inquirer that Eagles GM Howie Roseman has had conversations about the Jets’ general manager vacancy.
There’s a power struggle going on in Philly, as the Inquirer says a “bitterness” has developed between Roseman and coach Chip Kelly. That was revealed Wednesday as VP of player personnel Tom Gamble, a Kelly guy, was fired. So Roseman has apparently (and surprisingly) won out for now, making the Jets conversations moot.
