Post Combine Feel

ChipKelly5I have a post NFL combine question.  If a cornerback prospect stands 5’11” but his arms are two inches longer than a guy who is six feet tall, would the sum then equal a “Kelly” guy?

This “ridiculous” or “genius” approach to building a football team as it relates to the cornerback, safety and wide receiver position is another part of the “trust in Chip” notion that we have been asked to buy into.   Do we even spend time discussing names of potential draft targets that don’t “measure” up?

Chip is “fully” in control of which players the Eagles select in the 2015 draft.  I’m not sure Chip understands “value” and “positioning” in rounds.  He sees guys he likes and is willing to take them with his next pick even if there is a high probability that the same player will be available a round or two later.  I do believe Chip can spot talent and can determine if a player could excel at the next level under his “system.”

This draft could very well be the launching point that excels Chip’s coaching career even if the blockbuster deal for Mariota never happens.  It could also be a complete disaster and have many questioning what Jeff Lurie was ever thinking giving a guy with only two years of NFL experience all player control.

Jeff, we heard all this before when lurie gave Reid full control going into his third season.getting rid of an experienced football man (Modrack) and bringing in a young inexperienced right hand man (33yr old Heckert) sound familiar? If you look at that run (2001-2008) it was the best run in Eagle history. Let this play out before you start predicting the sky is falling.

Then we’re on the same page buddy! That’s all I’ve been saying, give him a chance, let’s see what he can do, I believe things are gonna be way different than how it’s been the past 15yrs, him n Belicheck are buddy’s and learn from each other, I see Chip taking a page from him and going after guys in FA and not worrying about the cap, that would be a great start.

One thing I hope he learns from Bellicheck is how running QBs suck.

No way on Earth he would ever even consider what the Eagles are thinking about.

BTW – the pats worry all the time about the Cap.

Have you not paid any attention to any other team save the Eagles.

I guarantee you BB would have cut Desean. He won’t pay at an insignificant position like WR. Won’t pay for RB either. Its nothing but retreads and nobodies at those positions. Ask for $$? Bub-bye Welker.

3 Year contract heads into 3rd year and will cost over 10 million? Even after 18-1?? Bub-bye Moss.

Gronkowski better be ready to re-negotiate in 2018 when his salary jumps to 11 mill and his cap hit to 4, because if he doesn’t he’ll be shown the door 100, ’cause they won’t pay that for him.

They are shrewd as fuck and will not pay big $$ to what are seen as completely replaceable “skill” players.

All he cares about is the QB (and no scramblers allowed) and the oline. Some Dline guys get paiod

Everyone else on that team is plug and play. Yes this year they put some$$ into Revis, but that’s a rarity. I suppose they felt they were one or 2 guys away (good guess). Eagles are not 1 or 2 guys away.

Pats are all about functional, plug-and play versatile players they can get on the cheap.

And it works as long as you have a pro-style Brady under center.
]
No way Bellicheck would ever consider trading up for Mariotta. I am sure he’d consider that just about the stupidest idea ever.

Vin, you have no idea what BB would do if he needed a QB since he hasnt had to worry about one for the last 13 yrs, if his system called for a running QB then that’s who he would go after, as for the cap? He put out over 20 million last year just in the secondry, the man knows what he’s doing running a team and him n Chip are tigh, you can sit all you want with ypur doomsday scenarios, you want to keep talking about past things that didn’t work, here goes what you should look at, only two other teams besides us right now have given their coaches total control and both of them played in the SB last year, you can stick with your stars, I’m going with those stats.

I wouldn’t know what Bellicheck would do if he needed a QB??

Yes I do.

Simms, Kosar, Vinnie, Bledsoe, Brady, Cassel, Mallet, Gar-a-whateverhis name is.

He’d draft a statue.

And there’s no way on Earth he’d trade up to do it either.

I believe the Eagles Current Roster is Average to Slightly Above and looks like it’s usual 8-9 Win Team with maybe a 10 Win Season if breaks and health stay their way or possibly as low as 7-8 Wins if Breaks and Health don’t go their way
Either Way, It will be a Transition Year with a New Secondary and Secondary Coach, a Newbie Front Office handling Free-Agency and the Draft so it definitely will be interesting to Follow..
I am sure Kelly and MArynowitz will make some Good Moves and also some Mistakes along the way… Hopefully they make Positive Decisions than Poor Ones..

The NFC East is Stronger, NFC South & the AFC East is Stronger, so the Eagles will have a more Difficult and Challenging Schedule than they had last Season and what appears on the List…

6-7-8-9 Wins who cares, the Point is the Eagles will have no Legitimate Shot to make a Deep Run for a Super Bowl Championship, so what’s the Difference really?
Go 9-7 or 10-6 and lose in the 1st Round of Playoffs
or go 6-10 or 8-8 and watch it from the Couch like the Rest of Us
When was Eagles last Playoff Win?

Paulman since when was the nfc south strong you reach to much.
Panthers- qb very overrated but has a very good defense
Saints- they are about 20 million over the cap and will be forced to release a bunch of players
Falcons-ok offense or should I say passing offense with no defense to speak of.
Bucs- will be starting a rookie qb this yr either mm or Winston
What is so scary good about this division hell the winner only went 7-9 last yr and the eagles are supposed to fear that.

The NFC South is too physical for the Eagles who struggle against Physical Teams.. TB Bucs with Mariota will be a decent Team, the Panthers have most of their Team back with a bunch of 1st & 2 Year Players and are a very young Team bound to improve
Dan Quinn will make the Falcons a more Physical Team and they are the market for RB D Murray or Adrian Peterson
The Saints always Beat the Eagles, who cannot match up with them or stop Drew Brees …so I see a 2-2 Record at Best Vs NFC South
AFC East -Losses to the Pats, Dolphins and Bills with a W over the Jets so 1-3 VS the AFC East so that’s 3-5 Overall then add in a 3-3 NFC East Divisional Record and the Eagles are 6-8 with 2 Games versus Lions and Cardinals which is maybe a Split for 7-9 Final Record
This is how I see it shaping up on March 3rd 2015

gloomysmitty
gloomysmitty
March 3, 2015 10:12 am

Now let’s break down the afc East.
Pats-stilll will be good but if there secondary is gonna get gutted then there defense won’t be as good.
Jets- weather it’s geno or mm I don’t fear that
Bills- ej manuel is there qb so that’s a w
Dolphins- have gotten rid of all there wr’s and Mike Wallace is next to go and there secondary they may have all new players also.
Now I’m not saying the eagles will sweep the afc East and nfc south cause the eagles always lose to a team they should beat but between those 8 games they have to go at least 6-2 now this is all bases off nick foles being the qb.

Eagles Started about $20 Below the Salary Cap
Cutting Herremans,Casey & Williams knocks off about $17-$18 Cap Space so Eagles should be Close to $40 in Cap Space

Rework T Cole and D Ryans and add about $7-$8 Million to the Cap Space… Leave McCoy’s Deal alone for 2015 and address it after Next Season depending on how he and Team Perform..

id rather pay the man who has a track record he can do the job then a guy who may look better than he is because he is playing with the cb in the game and 2 of the best safeties in the game. Dont give me any guys for tons of money that could fail – we did this and failed with punk ass williams.

If Desean were still on the team, wouldn’t we now only have about 20 mil? Less even?

Cary Williams and Fletcher the hell out of here, and I don’t want to see a value 3rd corner on the so called rise in here either.

Pay top tier at corner and allow Boykin to compete also.

Wasn’t it TO n Kearse that got us to the SB? If history proves anything it proves it’s all about picking the right guys in FA, as for the draft? Seattle went to two straight SBs with all low round picks in major positions ( QB, RB, secodary) again, it’s all about who is doing the picking, we’ll be a lot better off with Chip running things than Howie.

We added Kearse and TO when they had McNabb and Hugh and Dawk and West and Tra and Runyan and Vincent…..

NE added Revis and Browner when they had Brady, and Gronk, and McCourty, and Brady and Brady.

Fuck man the cupboard on D is BARE. Adding 2 FAs is just a start.

This team isn’t 2 FAs away.

Add your FA to push a team “over the top” when the peices are in place.

This team has all those holes mentioned above….not without quality players…..but without starters period! No one!

And into this environment you idiots are hard for the birds to trade all their top picks away for the next 3 years.

Stupidest move ever.

And FU Biglion and all the “love for FOles” shite. What I wrote above has nothing to do with Foles. Its a realistic look at a team that is missing starters everywhere on D and on the Oline and will soon be needing more on the Oline.

And into this the plan is….”who needs draft picks – Eagles suck at them anyway – All we need is one guy!! – then we’ll wave the magic Free Agency wand and replace half the D!

What a joke people are buying this garbage.

Lets be realistic….

On O- we have
*a very good (but aging) Oline.
* good WR’s… if Jmak stays, and I believe he does, they have a solid core of WR’s.
* good RB’s
* a good QB who may not fit the system

on D- we have
*1 starter in the secondary and good depth (boykins, Carol)
* a good LB core who needs 1 more stud.
* a good Dline

On special teams-we have
* a great great crew

I fail to see how landing a stud CB and S, and quality LB and #2 CB is not possible with 35 million. I also dont get how this wouldnt put us in the playoffs. Damn…. we have 20 wins in 2 years with a horrid D.

Fix the D in FA and see what we can do with QB and depth in the draft. Enough with the fear of the future.

Do the Eagles currently need:

2 dbs A safety, a DE (with Graham leaving and Cole allegedly refusing a pay cut) a MLB and an OG?

Do they or do they not?

They do. They have no players for these positions. That’s 6 open spots with no one to play them right now. If Maclin goes, that’s 7.

The team needs 7 starters right now….7 of 22 starters are potentially gone…….and you and the other dimtwits on here actually think the Eagles can wave the magic FA wand and make that all go away????

Because that’s what you’re and the other Disney fans are hoping for. Fairy Godmother to come in and rebuild 5 spots on D and an OG + probably a new WR with her wand.

Because you clowns are down with the “all in!!”

You’ve been an “all-in” clown ever since you’ve been on here. Always with the “best chance right now” attitude.

You were “best chance” with Mike…and now you’re “best chance” with Mariotta and a pile of nobodies. Picks don’t matter because the Eagles will just screw them up anyway!!!

I told you what needed to be done after the 2010 mirage. Sell the fraud, gather in those 2 firsts the Bills were offering and start rebuilding the team.

This team is nowhere close to a SB. If they wanted Mariotta they should have done the proper thing and tanked the season.

Now what you clowns want is the absolute worst of all worlds. Trading everything away for a college QB, when what this team desperately needs is as many picks as it can get.

No way Free agency fills all those open spots, and you’re gung-ho for trading away all the picks that would be needed.

Stevo

I am not saying I want them to pull the trigger…. but we sure are laughing at you now. Anything but a guy who can run…. right Vinnie? 10 wins a season with the crap we have had in the secondary…. do we win 12 games this year with actual CB’s? i say we do.

Vin, stevo, this isn’t just about this coming season, this is for the future also, if he gets his franchise QB this year along with a new secondary and some depth in other areas what’s wrong? You at lease make the playoffs and the future looks bright n you go from there, it’s called BUILDING! You guys are acting like the league is going out of business after this season And what Chip is trying to do won’t work, calm down and enjoy the process.

Eagles need at least 2 CB, 1 Safety, 1 to 2 WR’s & OLB in Free-Agency
They Have CB’s Nolan Carroll, B Boykin & J Watkins under Contract

They Can Draft OL,Secondary, LB and WR Depth in the Draf

Do note that Rebuilding a Secondary with 3/4 of Starters with New Players who are unfamiliar with Each Other and with a New Coach will take time.. In fact it will take all Summer, and probably 8-10 Weeks of the Regular Season before they can mesh and play well as a Unit
The DL and Pass-Rush must be at it’s best early on to help this new configured Secondary enough time to play well together…
