Speculation: Eagles Will Trade Mychal Kendricks

DeMecoRyans&MychalKendricks2The Eagles have a curious situation going on at linebacker.

With Kiko Alonso now in the fold, the Eagles have three starting caliber linebacker on their roster capable of playing the inside.

Alonso, Mychal Kendricks, and DeMeco Ryans.

With Alonso and Kendricks talented and just entering their primes, it would seem that Ryans and his high cap number could cause him to be the next big-name veteran in line to receive the ax.

However, I’m not so sure that Ryans is a lock to get released.

At this point, it’s no secret that the Eagles are going to be making a run at trading up to the top of the draft to acquire quarterback Marcus Mariota.

In order to pull off such a feat, Chip Kelly is going to have to put together a package stocked with high draft picks along with attractive NFL-ready talent already on the roster.

I believe that Kelly will use Mychal Kendricks as one of the pieces to help him move up in the draft to get his quarterback, and stick with DeMeco Ryans on the inside for one more season.

Kendricks would be a very attractive piece for many teams. He’s an elite athlete, and he’s shown he can perform well in either a 3-4 or a 4-3 scheme. He’s a guy overflowing with potential, and doesn’t have any notable injury history.

We’ll know exactly what the Eagles plans are for Kendricks over the next few weeks, once they determine whether or not they’re keeping Ryans.

It doesn’t make sense for the Eagles to continue to carry Ryans on the roster at this point unless they plan to trade Kendricks. At nearly $7 million for this season, Ryans would be too expensive to keep as a backup. If he’s on this team, he’s got to be in a starting role.

Teaming Kiko Alonso and Ryans together would give the Eagles an extremely injury-prone linebacking situation. Chip Kelly had better be prepared to have a better backup available than Casey Matthews this year.

Don’t see it happening, if Ryan’s comes back he’s definitely not coming back at 7 million, your dreaming if u think he is, if he comes back at a reduced rate it will only be as a situational player.

Hasta Kendricks.

Hasta cox

Its happening. They’ll fill all holes on d via fa. Then give up players and picks for yota. Then they’ll be left for 3 or 4 picks in the draft this year and take a guard a rb a wr all done.

They’re probably gonna offer Tampa foles, cox, Kendricks and our #20 pick and our 2nd rounder. Tubby will go full chubby at that deal. Good d players an immobile pocket qb and more picks.

This Cuban guy Alonzo is coming off a bad injury. He ran a 4.74 in the 40th at the combine, which is,not blazing. Andy Reid had a fetish for Mormons. Chip has a fetish for Oregonians. With Graham and Cole gone he has to make up about 11 sacks. I will wait and see this magic that Kelly is brewing ala Sam Hinkey.

Trent Cole should blast the Eagles if they keep Demeco. You mean to tell me that if the Eagles keep Demeco, coming off his 2nd Achilles tear who already told us after his 1st it took 2 years to feel right, over Trent Cole , a home grown Eagle legend who is healthy is right? Fuck that. Demeco has been here 3 years and played well. but TC has bled green for many years and is healthy. Demecos ass needs to go to. Find another leader.

According to my source, the Eagles will tender running back Chris Polk at $1.6 million deal for 1 year. Another team can sign Polk for more money and the eagles can decide to match it

If eagles would have offer 2mil then any team that matched it would have had to give a 2nd round pick but obviously the eagles are confident noone will

Btw Kiko is really a Right Outside LB that can play MLB because of his smarts, speed, instinctive nature and athletic prowess

Kendricks is versatile as well, hes more of a weak side LB though

But they may view him as too small, whats he 5’11?

Pay close attention to the guys Chip is signing or trading for at the LB position

So far all 6’3, athletic smart guys

Brad Jones 6’3 MLB Kiko Alonso 6’3 MLB/ROLB

Very telling

We’re getting a glimpse into the kind of MLB Chip wants

-Curry has been on the block since he has been here because he would be more effective in a 4-3
-Mathis since last year when he publicly said that he wanted a new contract and because he has been getting injured and on the wrong side of 30
-Foles is what everyone is “hearing” because of the move to get the savior
-Boykin because he wants to play on the outside and get paid like it

Here’s a question.

I believe, and I may be in error here, that teams must spend up to 90 or 95% of the cap this year. Correct?

SO Eagles myst spend about $45 million on free agents. Must.

Everyone here talking about McCourty, Worilds, etc. Generally we can all agree that those are great targets.

What happens if those “prime” targets sign somewhere else. I’m sure GB and Indy wouldn’t mind a player like those guys. There are a lot of teams out there with $$ to spend.

What happens when Eagles have to up the ante considerably to ensure these guys come to Philadelphia?

Or worse…

What happens if those “prime” players go somewhere else? What happens if the “prime” guys go to other teams and Eagles are left with a bunch of scrubs that they HAVE to spend their $50 million on?

FA is an excellent way to compliment an already established team.

FA is not the way to build a team.

haveacigar
haveacigar
March 5, 2015 9:01 am

Vinnie I agree with your post. People don’t understand that other teams are bidding on the good players. Then players have choices, money being number one but let’s say $8 mil vs $8.5 mil…then it comes down to geographic region, family, cost of living etc….
If we are all in on ‘him’ and fill 7-10 holes thru FA and give up good young players and picks I think it’s a recipe for disaster

I just looked it up…Eagles have to spend 89% of the combined salary cap fromn 2012 to 2016.

The NFLPA site actually doesn’t have the Eagles “board” up yet (probably because they’re busy recalculating things after these moves) that will tell us exactly how much they have to spend….but I’m pretty sure its going to be a big number.

It looks like they’ll be able to roll $$ forward to 2016 (like they did last year) but this will be the last year they can do that.

Its funny that they’re almost in some sort of a twiltight zone “reverse cap” situation where they are “forced” to spend an obscene amount of $$ (and they will be force next year if they don’t this year).

Does this seem like a good idea?

Forced to spend huge amounts of $$ on FAs……and if the “prime” players are gone….might see a few more “Riley Cooper contracts” from the Eagles the next 2 years……

haveacigar
haveacigar
March 5, 2015 10:15 am

Vinnie I saw something on ESPN the other day… Lots of teams in this situation ..there will be a bunch of overpays this year…marginal players getting huge bucks.
I was thinking about the cooper contract and how we are all pissed about it. I said at the time and I really believe it now..Kelly looks at player value entirely different then we do. Dumping McCoy and jax fits his philosophy. He doesn’t want/need guys that ‘have’ to be fed the ball because they have super star status. He wants to have guys that are ok getting the ball ten times one game and zero the next. This is New England like… This week we run 35 times next week throw it 50….

I believe the 3 Year Window of Team Spending versus the Salary Cap and the Rollovers are now over.. All Teams are mandated to spend to Spend 95% of the Salary Cap Amount on Player Salaraies

Last Year the Oakland Raiders and Jacksonville Jaguars only spent 81%-82% of the Cap Amount and have $50-$60 Million that they must Spend as Mandated per the CBA starting this Year

vinnietheevictor
March 5, 2015 10:32 am

The NFLPA site says the window ends in 2016 and teams (by that time) must have spend 89% of the 4 year total.

SO I think there’s one more year.

Regardless…..as I stated, Eagles (and clearly other teams) are painting themselves into this weird corner where they’ll have to spend gobs and gobs of $$.

This situation might help to explain the Cooper contract a bit…Eagles “have” to spend 89% of the 4 year cap total, so they through some of that at Cooper. However, it does make the “cap cutting” moves a little stranger….Eagles, either this year or next, will HAVE to spend 60-70 million on FAs. No escape. (so will a bunch of other teams)

This is going to drive prices up. Perhaps my earlier “cap hit” numbers that were derided might not be as far off as people thought.

From what I can tell and stated going back to Chip Kelly’s Oregon Days and when he was hired at Philly is that he doesn’t place a Very High Value on RB’s or WR’s and It’s all about the OL and Players Buying into his System which means they have to be Smart, Team-Oriented, in Shape and able to Run & Play at a Up-Tempo..
Look at the Patriots over the Years with very pedestrian Players at WR & RB… Belichek’s places a Premium on Defense, Special Teams, the OL & at QB with 100% Player Buy-In which is what Kelly is trying to do in Philly..

The Eagles will probably get two big time FA’s, the rest will be mid tier FA’s, stop acting as if every FA is going to be high priced that will push the cap…oh boy the dooms day FA scenarios continue..What if the Eagles can’t sign this…that…What if we can only sign scrubs…lol. The Sky Is Falling!!!LMAO. Relax! You guys do know teams have already been working on deals…the FA tampering dates are a joke as teams started informally working on getting deals done since the combine? I’m willing to bet Chip let specific players go with understanding of who he will be signing. Chip is a genius right…who thinks waaaaaay ahead right…lol…Relax.
Vin all of this sky is falling goes back to not using the picks to pursue Mariota, and Chip may not do that…just relax. But, I’m suspecting you are starting to realize what the plan is, you do see the writing on the wall, and that is what is scaring you!

Vince Wilfork announced on Twitter the Patriots will not be picking up his option for next season.
New England saves $8.1 million against the cap by declining his option. With all of the Patriots’ other offseason commitments (Devin McCourty and Darrelle Revis to name a couple), Wilfork had to see this one coming. Big Vince said he is not considering retirement and coming off a decent season (47 tackles in 16 games), we wouldn’t expect him to. It will be interesting to see how the market shapes out for the 33-year-old. Wilfork went to five Pro Bowls during his 11-year stay in Foxboro.

He’s too small in thr inside and gets lost in traffic.. Have him on the edge to do 1 thing and that’s disrupt the backfield by penetrating and going after the “Ball” whether it’s the QB in passing downs or the RB on early downs..

Looking like Maxwell, McCourtey and Worilds. I love it I love it I love it.

If they find a way to land these 3… i dont care who they draft or trade at QB. I love what they seem to be thinking. Could be just rumors but I like it.

Eagles are going to sign G Lupati. He is a mauler and is good at pass protection too. I have a feeling the Eagles are going to keep Mathis and not cut him. I would say even Jason Worilds is a lock too. Mccourty or Culliver I believe will be signed too. Even someone like Brandon Flowers who had a good year with the Bolts would be a nice addition to the secondary. Much less expensive then Maxwell.

Dman he graded out on pro football focus as one of the worst pass protectors in the league last yr he will get a qb killed.

I just figured out the trade with the Jets,so here we go the Jets are gonna lose david Harris to bills there gonna need a new young ilb so
The eagles send
2015 1st and 4th
2016 2rd and 5th
Michael Kendricks

Eagles then trade foles to rams for there 3rd and 5th Rd picks in 2015

The Eagles will load up on defense thru free agency and will providing our rookie QB with a potentially great defense.

That usually helps a rookie QB or any QB for that matter

But esp a rookie QB, who will obviously make some rookie mistakes. it provides a bit of a cushion, some stability and comfort for him and the team overall

I fully fully expect us to sign 2 CBs maybe 3 (they may trade boykin) 1 safety, 1 outside LB. They’ll draft their RB

And I think they will move up to 1 or 2 for Mariota.

Just know, when the eagles move up to 1 or 2 it will include Foles

No team that high whose in need of a conventional drop back QB would accept a trade without involving Foles

How stupid they’d be if they accepted all those picks including our 20th for this year, dropping that far down, but not getting a very good veteran yet young QB in return

Foles will be in the mix IMO

I won’t be surprised if eagles sign mccourty..Maxwell and worilds in fa… maclin will not be back. . We need to offer Chicago a player like boykin for marshall.

I love the idea of signing these defensive players, but can we send Billy Davis out of here to give them a shot to succeed?

Cya Kendricks

Stephone Anthony – LB – Tigers
Clemson LB Stephone Anthony “had dinner with” the Philadelphia Eagles on Wednesday, according to TFY Draft Insider Tony Pauline.
The Clemson prospect was highly productive for the Tigers last season, recording a team-high 90 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, 11 quarterback pressures, with one interception. With a solid outing at the Combine, Anthony has piqued many teams’ interest as of late. The Eagles have just traded for injury-prone ILB Kiko Alonso, with Demeco Ryans future still in question in Philly. Anthony has the potential to be a three-down linebacker and would offer good quality depth at the position.

I like this kid big time and had him mocked quite a few times as one of the Eagles 4th Rd Selection.. he will need a Season to groom before competing as a Starter but should be s Special Teams Demon and compete for Starters time by 2016 .. Goes about 6-3 248lbs with the frame to add 10lbs in 2 years time.. This guy is chiseled already.. Draft him Chip..

I think mcourty ends up back in NE. From what I hear (my sources—or should I say ESPN) he is a high quality, character guy.
I saw maxwell on tv tonight, seems very humble and a team guy.
We would do well getting both of them… Maybe too much to ask.
And anyone saying ‘get Brandon Marshall’ has not been paying attention.

I agree. I threw out B Marshall as a quick reaction and due to what I thought would be much cheaper than Maclin as a stop gap move.

I would much rather we draft a WR or 2. Especially if you can move some Reid Era players for 3rd or 4th rounders. (Curry, peters, Mathis)

Very unlikely getting a 2nd Round in Return for Kendricks, more like a 3rd/4th.. F Cox returns a 2nd Rounder, Z Ertz a 3rd Rounder
Mathis a 4th/5th Rounder, Celek a 4th/5th Rounder
Peters a 2nd Rounder, Boykin a 5th Roundrr

There are 3 teams at the moment with equal or more cash than the birds .Jacksonville ,Oakland ,Cleveland .Midwest ,south, and west ,dreck ,dreck and turmoil teams ..one east coast team ,the Eagles are putting all there Chips on the Table ..It’s exciting to be on a cliff ,but I must admit ,it’s a bit uncommon for a twice 10-6 team ..Look at the list of the other 3 cash rich teams ..That can’t be said ,not even close ? So you’d figure a high caliber player would have little trouble in his choice. When you can get cash and a shot at the big prize that’s a parlay hard to turn away from. The patience Chip shows ,will be key in this poker game .Hes already shown himself to be a bit of a gunslinger ..I’ll be curious how he navigates this poker game ..Has he been telling everyone in ear shot how he thinks Mariotta is special to raise the anti on his boy ,or does he feel he needs this last piece to fill out his duck pond? He has a vision ,and I’m along with all of you ,along for the ride..Who will be the first prize blue ribbon player the Eagles covet most in FA ? Worlids ..mccourtey and maxwell .Lets assume the highest paid being McCourty ..,we ultimately traded shady for McCourty and kiko …looks better in that vain for sure ..I’d say it’s 70/30 we stay put ,in the draft ..but really wtf has been the main adjective of late ..loving this shit..

The other way of looking at it is the opposite Desert for argument sake
Some Players and mostly Agents may get scared off with the Eagles believing that they are not a Team who honors their Contracts..
Last Year D-Jax goes from $30 million left for 3 Seasons to a 2 Year $16 Million Deal with Redskins..
Trent Cole had $37 Million left on his 3 Years, etc. etc…
Now McCoy moved wIth 3 Years on his Deal too..
It’s one thing to cut Players in their Final Contract Season as they get older
But the Eagles may be getting known as a Team that will keep you for 2-3 Years and cut the chord…

Also it may mean a little more when the Person making the $$$ Decisions is also your Head Coach.. Some Players & Agents may not be all that comfortable with that situation…

Sorry but thats nonsense Paulman….Tampa Bay is already shopping their prized G from last offseasons spending…Chiefs are cutting Dwayne Bowe after resigning him and giving Brandon Flowers the boot in the process…

Teams do it all the time….as good as McCoy is/was for the Birds….this isnt Brian Dawkins getting let go.

Trent Cole Herremans and Williams will get half of what they were getting here.

After the furor bogs down no one is going to bat an eyelash.

And nonsense on what the players think…any real player about their business will tell you….Once your guaranteed money is gone….you have no security…
