There is a chance that the Eagles could still draft a quarterback in the first round of the 2015 draft. He played his college football at UCLA. His name is Brett Hundley.
Hundley’s passing stats are respectable; 3:1 touchdown to interception ratio. He can also run with the football, 1,747 yards on the ground and 30 rushing touchdowns. This is where the question marks begin; as the numbers are a bit misleading if you look at several “key” components of his game.
Hundley has a strong arm, but is unable to make all of the throws. He runs with his head down at times. His footwork needs a lot of work; often times resembling the poor technique that RGIII has demonstrated as of late.
So why would Chip even consider taking Hundley in the first round, especially after making the trade for Bradford? Additionally, taking Hundley in round one would be considered by just about everyone who follows college football as a “reach.” Hundley had a poor combine showing and hurt his draft stock. Originally labeled as the “3rd” best quarterback in the draft (by default), many believe Hundley is now the 4th or 5th best. Hundley probably grades out to a high to mid round three selection, but with so few quarterbacks in 2015 class, will likely go somewhere in round two.
History has shown that teams often reach for quarterbacks. The slim but still alive hope is that Chip finds a way to get Mariota. If Mariota were to go to a team in the top ten, I believe a scenario could unfold that would allow Chip to once again shock the world.
The Browns from multiple reports offered the 19th overall pick for Bradford. I could see the Browns offering the same pick to the Eagles if Mariota is off the board by the time they select with their other selection, #12 in round one.
Would Chip take the deal, send Bradford to the Browns; select Hundley at pick #19 while still retaining his pick at #20?
Instead of mortgaging the future for Mariota, Chip settles with sending a 2016 2nd rounder and dropping from the 4th round to 5th round in 2015 to get a quarterback that has the athleticism to run “his” system.
Like with every mock draft out there, this is scenario I’m throwing out there, to see how I would feel about it.
There is part of me that would understand it, 2015 we roll with Sanchez, a possibility that could certainly take place with our current quarterback situation with the injury history of Bradford. Pray and hope that Chip can bend, break and mold Hundley into a player that can perform at the NFL level.
Hundley has a lot of work to do, he has more flaws in his game then things that make you believe he could be a successful quarterback at the NFL level.
Something to consider, everything has to be, Chip has demonstrated the ability to throw the craziest of curveballs our way.
Hundley is not an NFL QB…….Please stop mentioning his name in the same breath as more deserving high draft picks….
Gm, agree. I also felt marcus smith was not an nfl linebacker. My fear is chip gets the feeling that with the athleticism of Hundley, he can mold the guy. I think Hundley has a geno smith like pedigree with some Jason Campbell mixed in. I’m trying to prepare myself for this draft. All of the possibilities, and thus Hundley idea came to mind. I have begun to hit the draft breakdowns. . Working hard to find the best options based on what we have..what chip likes and the depth in the draft. Wide receivers will be out this week, and I disagree with experts who even try to compare the depth in this class compared to 2014. I just don’t see it.
I’m not drafting Hundley in the first round…the highest I’d go for him is a second. Again…Chip might see enough in the kid. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if Chip doesn’t draft a Qb in this draft. I think the focus should be O-line and safety…even though I dont see a safety in this draft that could step in and start….maybe Nate Allen was our best option…sad to say

I don’t think collins at safety drops to 20, I also don’t think he fits what chip wants from safety. Corners at pick 20…eh..all have question marks. Jalen strong I keep hearing, he reminds me of colston, but i personally would rather have a guy like fisher or collins at ot, who could play og to start. Not a sexy position, but i can see us filling wr, cb, s, and depth at d line and lb later in draft.
Colston was a 4.65 Speed guy at best and was never a deep threat in his Career, he also wasn’t a good blocker….
Strong is much more Physical and runs a 4.4, not a good comparison…

Tre McBride is a Top 100 Prosect (75th-100th) in almost every Scouting Guide .. He goes in the 3rd Round ..
xxxxx wrong…Not top 100, Lindy’s rates him as a 5th rounder, Pro Football draft guide rates him as the 122nd best player, and he is rated as a 4th round prospect in Athlon Sports draft guide. Those are the guides I give the most credibility to.
Walter football has Darren Waller going in the 3rd round to the Eagles, Tre McBride going to Minnesota in the 4th at 107.

Cliff, I like DGB too, but Chip is not going to draft him IMO. I am not even considering him as a possibility. Breshard Perryman offers the same skill set as Mathews, the Eagles need a WR that can bring something different to the offense skill wise.
As far as Tre McBride, 11 games played in 2014… he went 64 for 806 and 5 TD’s against the level of competition he played against is not good enough for me to use anything higher than a 4th round pick on him…if he would have dominated that level of competition, ok, but he did not…so that makes me wary.
EHL that’s why I have a hard time doing mocks, guarantee Green-Beckham will the BPA at 20 easily and he won’t be drafted by our Eagles. You never know who is taken off what teams boards for what reasons.

Not a head scratcher. Got 2 of 3 best runners for his offense in free agency without sacrificing picks and can build the Oline through the draft. And both deals are basically two year deals and he can stash a guy in Polks spot.
Chips head scratching move for most of us is Bradford, but to me he basically got a chance at s better QB or a 13mil dollar cap relief with picks coming back if he fails…

Conley out of uga is a guy I’ve mentioned for rd 3 but he has some unpolished parts of his game with how he catches the football. Other names you like?

Doubt we take Hundley – not accurate and makes poor decisions (the two things Chip says he values the most). Petty would be a far better alternative choice. May be a moot point since it is rumored San Diego wants to trade up to Tennessee at 2 for Mariota.

No Jeff, I’m not bothered or worried at all, Chip took a #1 reciever and got 1300 yards out of him, took our #2 the following year and got 1300 yards out of him, so far Chip has showed he can put a decent receiver there n get results from him, it could be Matthews this year, Chip is showing he has a higher premium on RBs than receivers, if that’s true ok with it, I think he’s gonna flood the middle of the field with the slot reciever, TE n RB and get the same results as having a legit number one on the outside, people keep getting spooked cause he’s not doing anything conventional, people have to relax n let it play out, he’s gonna break his record this year for yardage n points as he did his first two.
I believe Green-Beckham would be the best pick for the Eagles at #20. Very big, fast kid…..only problem is off the field baggage but I personally think the kid can mature and with veteran leadership that stuff can be taken care of.
Safety is our BIGGEST need but I don’t think Collins will be there at #20 and to take a Safety in round 2 would be a reach no matter who they took.
I see talk of taking an OT with No #20…….that equates to taking a G at #20……not a good move. There are NO OG’s 1st round worthy, and taking a OT in the 1st round to move to OG is not the best available player mantra.

Chuck Bednarik flew thirty bombing missions in ww 2, before that he grew up in bethlehm pa, wanting only to help his father in the steel mills before he went to war.
At 6 3 230 he came home from the war and entered penn.
He was the eagles first round pick and first overall.
He won the championship in 49, I believe his rookie season and again in 60. He Played both sides of the ball. He was regarded as the best at both positions, multiple all pro, at least 10 recognitions and the last 60 minute man

Don’t care about Kendrick’s value on the market. Only care about his value to this Eagles team. Removing Kendricks from this roster would do nothing but set the defense back again at the LB position. Solve one need and create another.

And while in past years, I agree players don’t usually get traded. But I think we’ve seen a willingness from Chip to trade players.
