The Philadelphia Phillies lost their fourth straight game on Wednesday night, falling to the Mets 6-1. Their record drops to 3-6.
On The Mound
- Jerome Williams got the start, and did not pitch well. Williams allowed five runs on 10 hits over five innings of work.
- Williams gave up two home runs.
- Justin De Fratus allowed a run to score on one hit and two walks in the sixth.
- Dustin McGowan mopped up with two scoreless innings.
At The Plate
- The Phillies scored just one run nine hits.
- Odubel Herrera went 3-5 with a triple and two doubles.
- Cesar Hernandez went 1-4 with a walk.
- Chase Utley went 0-5, but picked up an RBI.
- Jeff Francoeur hit out of the cleanup spot, and went 0-3 with a walk.
- Darin Ruf played first and went 0-3 with a walk.
- Cody Asche went 3-3 with a double.
- Cameron Rupp went 2-4 with a couple of singles.
- Ben Revere went 0-4, dropping his average to .139.
Final Thoughts
The Phillies need to think about sitting Ben Revere for the time being.
Revere is giving them absolutely nothing right now. He’s a poor defender, and has no power to speak of. His only useful asset was his ability to hit around .300, but with a .139 average through nine games he’s killing them right now.
Granted, the Phillies don’t exactly have many strong alternatives, but at this point I think they’re better off playing Herrera in center everyday and rotating Francoeur, Sizemore, and Ruf in the outfield.

Brutal game to watch. Chase just doesn’t look motivated out there. Revere swings the bat like those softball players you see on TV. No heart and no talent on this roster. We have yet to score more than 5 runs in a game. This lineup is a joke.
Would Jerome Williams be in the starting rotation on ANY other Major League team? Very debatable.
What’s very strange is that the phillies have seemed to really like Williams a lot…before spring training, they pretty much considered him a lock to make the rotation even over David Buchanan…Williams is a fifth starter at best, probably a guy who you ideally want filling in as a spot starter here and there
Hamels not traded, now given every opportunity to RUIN his trade &/or get hurt! Hey havenoclue, still ok with your hero, messiah, Ruin 2morrow???? What’s your expertise on why he is still on this team, when his trade value will be no higher than it was at the trade deadline last year, & this off-season????? Inquiring minds want to know!!!! Could it be, your hero is an inept retard, with qualifications to be a MLB GM, other that being given & held onto his job, because of nepotistic reasons, & because of the organizations self hubris???
Every insider, pundit, & MLB Media rep, with knowledge of all teams inner workings, have well documented Ruin 2morrows ego, failure, greed, & overvaluations of his players, & his day late, dollar short, mindless, thought process!!!! Now with Hamels shitting his trade value away, you can forget about anyone giving up any top prospect for him! FU Ruin 2morrow, & FU havenoclue! I hope your happy with a team that has reverted back to its early 70’s & mid-late 90’s shit hole teams. Only this time, we ZERO coming through the farm, & nothing to look forward too! Until the rest of absentee decrepit owners die, & the organization is purged, from the minor league water boys- Pat Gillick, this team will never change, & will be trash truck juice smelling, hot garbage!!! So be happy, going to the games, to take in the ball park, because that’s all you got!!!
and if he was traded and the pieces weren’t A+ then you would have whined…very predictable…
The problem with the phils is quite simple there has been no 25-27 year olds to step in…zero, remember i think they gave up their ones to sign some FA– Brown who all of baseball had as a top prospect has failed. The outfielder whose name escapes me that they got in the lee trade was a very good prospect but a total failure…
They were in it to win it from 07-12 and if your prospects don’t produce you end up like this– its not fun to watch– there will be the shake up that everyone wants and is needed– montgomery will be forever pushed out, amaro will be fired an analytics guy will take his place — it will be interesting to see how they do it. this analytics crap has made baseball a bit tough to watch–
Hamels gave up 5 runs in a game and now his value is Rubened? Matt Harvey, a Cy Young candidate gave up 5 runs to an underwhelming Phillies lineup. Don’t write off Hamels’ value now because chances are he isnt traded for another month or two once the best teams separate themselves from the pack. All of Philadelphia is praying he stays healthy until then.
sean he has anger issues… trust me if they traded him in february he would have cussed and called people names at the return then…it would have been “hang on to him until the deadline and get a desparate team to give three A prospects’– he is constently on his period!
While Howards contract has become the major whipping stick used in the phils decline people forget that he earned the mvp making $355,000 then went on to finish top 10 in mvp for another 5 years. in the midst of that run they locked him up– yes he had two more arb years…. but when a guy does what he did for you its business to sign him… It shows the clubhouse that you take care of guys that have taken care of you, it also recognizes the value his fame contributed to the phils brand-
Lots of Reasons for the Phils Decline outside of Howards Decline..
Utley had Knee Issues and Declined as well, Rollins lost a Step and played as if he was going thru the motions and concentrating on his Phillie Franchise Records and Outside Business’s more than focusing on being the Teams Leader like he was earlier in his Career.. Then the bad Giveaway Trades of Pence and Victorino for garbage in Return…and then the Signing of Aging, Older Pitchers who were great in their Primes but had a lot of Innings on their arms in Halladay, Oswalt and Lee which further tied up BIg Contracts for extended Seasons… Add it up and they gave it a shot that worked in 2009,2010 & 2011 but failed ever since… Too much $$$ tied up in Starting Pitching in a Hitters Park while the Sport of Baseball was changing post Steroids into a more small ball, utilizing speed, better situational hitting, defense and having Bullpen Strength where the Phils lacked in all these areas… and still do, though it looks like their Bullpen and Defense have improved..
It was a nice ride, and now the Price must be paid to rebuild by staying with a strategy for 2 Years too long… It is what it is …
you forgot tommy joseph was on track to be an everyday MLB catcher, right?
that is correct paul the price has to be paid– in 12,13 there were no 25 year olds ready to step up…
if and in sports there is no such word as IF- that said ‘if’ they had won one more…we’d have a much better taste in our mouth.
funny paul i was looking at some old posts and saw in your typical fashion predicted doom and gloom in june of 2010, they went on to win 97 and then predicted doom and gloom on April 1, 2011– you predicted the braves would win the division and that it was ‘philly light’… you are too much
The Run was over 2-3 Years ago… The Phils will be a Basement Team for another 3-4 Years with the Moves Amaro has and hasn’t made ..
It is what it is, the Phillies are not a Plug in an PLay ORganization like the
Red Sox or Yankees or Cardinals as I stated 5 Years ago.. They got hot,had a great core who got old and injured and rode that aging Core until they had no more legs.. Phils will sink back to their Irrelevance for that’s how they are run as an Organization as the Owner count of the typical Fan Loyalty who fall in love their Players when they Win regardless of what happens afterwards ..
Look at the Red Sox who have remade themselves 3 times over since the 2009, look at the Cardinals, making smart moves every Season and don’t get their hands tied by “Loyalty or being Sentimental” like the Philly Crowd does….
you predicted it over in july of 10!!!
i think the rejuvenation will happen a bit quicker– they must get a1 top prospect for hamels…
this from paul mancini July 20, 2010… hilarious
They are not catching the Braves for this season either way and only the NL East Divisional Winner will make the 2010 playoffs, the Wildcard will be coming from the Central or Western divisions this year for those teams (Reds,Rockies,Padres,Cardinals,Giants) will all have better overall records than the non-fighting Phils.. (by the way, I think I called this back at the start of the season)
oh and this is a good one fraudman… before you read i want to point out that Oswalt went 7-1 down the stretch, put the team on his back in the playoffs with a .184 era… ready here it is:
Paul Mancini

There’s no sense in getting Oswalt at all
He salary is way too much $$$ at his age and all the wear and tear that he has and time left as an effective Pitcher. They are better off building for next year and go out and get some younger players
The Phils have sucked the last few seasons and far underachieved during their 5 Year Run..(2007- 2011)
There’s nothing new to add to the disappointment and false hopes and terrible Roster Management and Contract Management by Amaro..
1 World Series over a weak and Newbie Tampa Bay Rays Team who were happy just to be there, makes it even less historical in a boring WS..
So go ahead and keep researching Posts from 4-5-6 Years since you have way too much time on your hands.. In the End, this Phillie Franchise F’d Up what should have been a Golden Run to Multiple Championships..
I go back to Game #2 2009 WS at Home with a 3 Run Lead and Hamels on the Mound, who blew the lead and game, to the Yankee’s to go down 2-0 in the Series and the Phils were never the same Team Again
They are bad of course… But your negative dimwit criticism was going on when they were winning. You always take the negative narrative ALWAYS..
They would of, could of won two or three…the game you refer to without a doubt… And the year the hot cards got to lee who had a 4 run lead.”
It was Destiny, Phillies like most Philly Teams are Immature when it comes to handling Success.. With so many years of Failure and Fultile Play, they all got too full of themselves, gave all their Players long-term deals where collectively they lost that edge, that fire, that battle to compete for 27 Outs… They are highly paid Professional Athletes who got too comfortable, too much love from everyone and began to think they were better than they actually were…
You take pride in your udder stupidity
Shouldn’t it be UTTER stupidity…just saying.
Yes it should .. Spell check fail!
No, your spell checker is fine as udder is a real word. You just used the wrong word.
