The trade talks between the Tennessee Titans and other NFL teams for Heisman Trophy winning Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota will start heating up today then increase tomorrow and continue climbing until the night of the draft. We know some of the teams in the hunt like the Eagles, the Cleveland Browns, the New York Jets and possibly the San Diego Chargers.
Eagles head coach Chip Kelly and his staff will need to be willing to part with two or three first round draft picks and a key player or two to get his man. Kelly and Eagles Player Personnel Director Ed Marynowitz has gone on record saying they aren’t willing to mortgage their future for one player.
The Browns are desperate for a starting quarterback with second-year Johnny Manziel in position to start. Ian Rappoport of NFL Media has reported that the Browns have been in talks with the Washington Redskins about working out a deal which would allow them to move up to the fifth spot in the first round.
The Jets have Geno Smith at their starting quarterback position right now, but that is subject to change. Phillip Rivers has let the San Diego Chargers know that he has no plans of signing an extension with them as long as moving to Los Angeles could be in their future.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter says there’s a good chance that a sleeper team comes out of the woodwork and tries to make a deal for Mariota with the Titans. He says it’s not likely but he doesn’t rule out the Eagles making the move from number twenty to number two.
A sleeper team wouldn’t surprise me. Give these GM’s and head coaches a chance to think about it and they’re going to realize they must have a great quarterback to win a title.
GM’s and Head coaches are fired because of the failure of their quarterbacks. GM’s and Head coaches with good quarterbacks are usually in the playoffs and getting contract extensions. GM’s and Head coaches with bad quarterbacks usually have the U-Haul truck in their driveways and they’re explaining to the Mrs. why they’re moving again.
Here you have a potential franchise quarterback in Mariota sitting there and waiting to be had to the highest bidder. The Titans don’t want to draft him. They want to give their current starting quarterback Zach Mettenberger time to develop. Still they could be forced to draft Mariota anyway, in order to keep themselves in position to make a blockbuster deal with one of the teams that wants Mariota after the draft. Drafting the quarterback is the best value. No other position has the value of the quarterback position.
The San Diego Chargers could come to the conclusion that Phillip Rivers isn’t going to be with them for long, so they could trade him to the Titans and they draft Mariota.
ESPN’s Chris Mortensen says the Eagles are negotiating an extension with quarterback Sam Bradford, but the former Rams quarterback is fighting for a no trade clause because he doesn’t want to wind up being a chip to be used to obtain Mariota. This lets you know that behind the scenes the Eagles are talking to people about making the trade for Mariota. Bradford’s agent has his ear to the ground and is hearing those rumblings and that’s why Bradford wants a no-trade clause in his new deal.
Shoot why even discuss anything regarding the 1st round. We all know the Eagles will surprise everyone with their 1st pick and reach on a player who will eventually be a bust. So let’s save everyone the trouble and trade out of the 1st round and pick up additional picks. Seriously
But I personally would love the Eagles to make that blockbuster trade and land Mariota
yeah I know that every organization is acting like the CIA now and that they are blowing smoke up each others asses but there is no way– MM’s value is high, there are several teams that need a qb who have better picks and assets than the birds… In sam we trust!

This current organization may as well just go home after the second day because their picks after that are complete trash. So with no second round pick this year, the draft will be over. I don’t think Mariota is Andrew Luck. But even Luck could not overcome this defense, this patchwork O line (without Mathis), and the lack of any great receivers. Mariota will be in a very tough spot if this deal happens because he will not be able to do anything with the team he has around him. This is going to become the Flyers. A few really good players but not enough overall to go anywhere and no resources to get there. No picks, no drafting ability and no money.
Mariota will have RBs that won’t stay healthy as they get engulfed at the line of scrimmage with no interior line play. He will have a very good WR in Mathews, but the rest will be average and he will have pressure in his face up the gut again with no interior line. McNabb can tell you all about that with his bargain bin interior linemen. Undrafted FAs. Please please please please Zach Ertz tell me you learned to block this winter!! You have to get on the field! Eagles go 5-11 this year while Mariota learns the ropes at this level. Hopefully he lives without serious injury. Maybe they get some line help next year and get another FA for the secondary and we can contend for the playoffs. But if they can’t find starters after day two moving forward starting this weekend, Mariota and Chip are doomed. And we are doomed to start all over again in four years.
Wouldn’t that be great. Go 5-11 and watch Tenny use out #2 pick on their QB of the future, while STL uses the #34 we traded away for Peg Leg on a new LT (that we will also desperately need)

I have seen him play…and seen some of his film…Bradford has played very well considering the talent around him. He is an accurate passer, with good touch, he’s composed in the pocket, smart, with decent arm strength. Quick release and will excel in Chip Kelly’s system.
His weakness is health..if he fails here it will be like Vick’s failure…unable to stay healthy…outside of that…Bradford is a major upgrade at the QB position!

Swearinger is in the Deon Bucannon, Troy Polamalu almost LB type safety. Eagles want their safeties almost cornerback like similar to HaHa Clinton Dix, Devin McCourty.
I 100% agree. I just don’t see too many cover safeties available in the draft, FA, or the trade block that would be upgrades. I hope they don’t reach for a position of need like the did with Marcus Smith.
The reason I brought Swearinger up in discussion is because the Eagles have had success signing former Texans. He fills their need for a SS but I will admit he does not fit their concept of what a SS should be.

On top of that the Titans have one of the worst rosters in the league. They need an influx of young players over multiple years. Browns have to give up 12 19 possibly a 3rd and next years first as well min.
The Browns dont want to do that because the odds are they will suck this year even with Marriotta and that would be three top 15 picks.
12 and 19 this year is more valuable than the 20 this and the 20 next– the 12 pick alone is pretty damn valuable. then add in the waiting a year– what if next year the eagles went to the SB and picked 32– no way
12 and 19 equal 2050 and 20 and 20 = 1700 PLUS you can get two more valuable players at one time..no brainer.
The Eagles are giving up 3 firsts…whether its two this year with Bradford to Cleveland and next year

Right, but no other deal includes a pick at #6. Tennessee can get the DT they are looking for instead of putting all their eggs in Leonard Williams basket. Plus they would get the #6 pick where they can pick a WR or OT.
