The Eagles weren’t comfortable about waiting all the way until pick number 52 to get cornerback/safety Eric Rowe. So they cut a deal with the Miami Dolphins and gave up their two fifth round picks, so they could to move up five spots in the second round to select Rowe. The Dolphins also surrendered their sixth round pick, so the Birds ended up swapping a fifth round pick for the move.
It was no surprise since the Birds clearly had targeted Rowe throughout the draft season because he’s got the size and speed combination they wanted. He stands 6’1″ weighs 206 pounds and ran a 4.45 40 yard dash at the NFL Combine.
Rowe played safety for his first three years at Utah and then in his senior year, they moved him to cornerback. So, you’ve got a guy who is just what the Eagles wanted, a safety who is very comfortable going outside and playing man-to-man in press technique.
“We’re looking for safeties that can cover, and this kid played corner, so he’s got those skills,” Kelly said. “And he can play corner. We’ll find out exactly where he fits, but he may start off at corner for us. We’ve got a lot of time here. It was getting what we felt was the best secondary guy out there for what we do, and that was the guy we targeted.”
Rowe has got the height, the long arms and the speed that the Eagles love in their defensive backs. These youngster also loves to hit, which makes him a fit at safety.
He bench pressed 225 pounds 19 times and he had a 39-inch vertical jump.
“I’m comfortable at both positions,” Rowe said. “If I had a preference, I would say corner.”
He said corner because he’s got more room grow at that spot.
Rowe and Agholor were clearly need picks. Eagles were drafting a wr and cb this draft by plan.
I think the chipper wanted one of the Cornerbacks selected in the top 19 picks then reversed course & played his draft board WR/CB. Got nervous and made sure he got a defensive back he felt comfortable with in Rowe, forfeiting a couple 5th rounders. Buffalo drafted FSU CB Ronald Darby at #50 in between the trade up to dolphins’ trade pick #47 and Eagles previous pick #52.
Looks like a solid pick
Billy Davis and Chip Kelly weren’t going to get caught with their pants down again at at inside linebacker and line up ( Acho, Matthews, Smith II) ever again.
More importantly the birds brought in Byron Maxwell, Walter Thurmond, and Eric Rowe in an attempt to improve a below average secondary.–
Malcolm Jenkins and Byron Maxwell are guarantee starters, competition between, Boykin, Rowe, Thurmond, Watkins, Wolfe, & Carroll for field time.
will the Chipper roll the dice on an injured duck Ifomeno Ekpre-Olomu at cornerback to stash for 2016 in the 4th round?
I hope not, Boykin is bigger at CB, and Chip hasn’t used Boykin like he should have.
I wouldn’t mind that, u take him n shelve him for a year, I heard if he want hurt he would of been gone a long time ago
Yea hes a 1st rd talent but no i would rather get tre jackson in 4th let him get that rg spot
His talent will eventually get Kelly to grab him but Z you are correct if Tre Jackson is there he should be the pick.
Would rather have the kid Clemmings than Jackson.
Clemmings vs Jackson
Stress fracture vs chronic knee
Both great run blockers
Izell you know darn well my FSU bias was gonna come in to play with that choice.
Big If I am looking for pure guard than Jackson if I’m looking for guard RT then it’s Clemmings.
Oh and I forgot about the kid Williams they were linked to from Oklahoma. If he’s there I think he’s the pick
Scratch that Big he’s gone
Koolbreeze wanted / predicted Hundley to Eagles round 1 hahahaAaa
Songs predicted round 2 or 3 hahaaaaa
Hundley blows yaidiots
Just cuz u can run don’t make u good
I will never forget Ike Reese saying the Eagles not drafting Geno Smith was a mistake and they would pay for it…
Done in less than 2 years.
I think the pick is Adrian Amos safety
I hope not he’s not a good safety
Eagles trade out of 4th, all three picked prior were all O lineman, one of them must of been who the Eagles wanted
OT Daryl Wiilliams snagged by the Panthers I believe was their Target
Which is why you have to have plan B, C & D for alternate Players
You simply can’t trade out of if your Top Selection was chosen already
Williams was it and one of the three before Paulman.
Clemmings, Tre Jackson & Williams are all Solid Propects
Vikings got a Steal with Clemmings
Patriots with Tre Jackson & Panthers, who have been aggressive this Draft Select D Williams..
(Oklahoma runs a similar scheme, terminology wise as Chip Kelly does)
As does West Virginia & Missouri so OL from these Schools have a little quicker learning curve to learn Eagles Terminology, etc…
Eagles got Detroit’s 3rd pick next year for the trade
That extra 3rd gets them back in the 2nd round next year.
I think the Eagles trade back into the 4th round.
Big, how? They don’t have any 5th’s. Nobody is giving up assets for Mathis, & Boykin ain’t going anywhere now. Still missing a quality CB. This is our secondary-
LCB Maxwell- FS Rowe- SS Jenkins- RCB Thurmond- Nickel/ slot Boykin.
Wishful thinking Dcar, I don’t want to be left with the impression this draft plan was Mariota and plan B was oh damn let’s just wing it.
That’s exactly what it is Big. He got caught with his pants down, & is in over his head. Was cocky, arrogant, & overconfident, in putting all his eggs in the Mariota basket. Overpaid, for him, & now has to do damage control with him, Cox, Kendricks, Boykin, & Mathis. This isn’t going to end well. No more than 7-8 wins.
QB- Downgraded.
RB- Lateral move.
WR- Lateral move.
TE- No change.
Oline- downgraded.
Secondary- Slight upgrade, but still have a hole at CB.
ILB’s- HUGE ????
OLB- Downgraded.
Dline- No change.
St’s- Slight upgrade.
So exactly where should I be excited, & expect a SB contender? TOO many questionable changes, TOO many unnecessary changes, TOO many health risks, & an arrogant, in-over-his-head Coach/GM.
*Bradford
Again…if they had done the proper thing and traded down a bit in the 1st for a couple extra 5ths……..
Kelly doesn’t plan. Only reacts.
Funny that we went from a coach/GM who could only plan and not react (Reid) to a coach/gm that can’t plan, only react.
Dolphins just took an ol from asu I would have taken instead of trading our pk. So chip does well first 2 rds…brutal since
Its all good. Eagles don’t need any more players.
There isn’t a hole at RG, Mathis isn’t 34, and Peters isn’t 33.
Plus we’ve got 47 ILBs.
LOL
That is a good trade. The Eagles probably missed on a OT they wanted.
No picks til round 6. They need to get a second back for next year.
This draft is a d for me after first two picks everything else suckd
If Agholor and Rowe are starters the draft is a plus. Those two are key.
This is where a trade of players is about to happen to get us back in the 4th or 5th, Boykin, Mathis, someone’s gone!
Hell when Bradford tears, his acl again we will have three 3rd Rd picks next yr
Gloomy you are living up to your name this weekend brah. But yes I think we are foolishly thinking the Gimp makes it through the season because I cannot take anymore Sanchez.
!!!….but pick only returned if injury happens before week 8….so are we supposed to root four opposing DTs now?
Shouldn’t be hard seeing we don’t have a RG.
TEEEEEBOW!
just let this shit play out. I understand concerns but damn yall act like we the raiders or jaguars or something. Let the man make his moves. The offense is proven…it works. We have a proven front 7 on d and and the secondary has been upgraded in every way. Fletcher, Nate Allen, and Williams are gone! We got the best cb on the market who is proven and a winner and the picked up a promising rookie. We still have Boykin, Carroll and Watkins. Watkins didn’t play much last year and was a 4th rd pick…let’s see what the kid can do. I personally didn’t care for the linebacker pick but they had a second round grade on him and you can never have enough lb’s in a 3-4. We still have pics in the later rounds. We gonna get some more players to help this team out. Shit Richard Sherman was a 5th rd pick and was a wr coming out. Kam chancellor was a 6th round pick. Look at our team. Jason’s came into the league as a undrafted tight end. Kelce was a late round pick and is now one of the best centers in the league. All chip has done is win under all circumstances so far so let him do his thing
bf, this is the draft, we always comment on it. Ultimately we will all have to wait and see how the up coming season pans out, but we are not going to sit back and wait to voice our opinions about how things unfold during the off season. The raiders have a SB, albeit from a long time ago, they do, Eagles do not. We are stiiiiiillllll waiting.
Yea when it comes to the draft we gotta voice our opnion on this shit
EHL I really understand all that I just kinda get the feeling that chip can’t win with eagles fans right now. It’s like every move he makes is a bad one and I just don’t get it. In my opinion I felt all the moves he made was necessary Except the foles for Bradford trade. Yeah there are some injury concerns but you can say that about damn near every football player these days. Maclin was “injury prone” but yall all wanted him back. He was ok but wasn’t worth no damn 11 mil. He ain’t no dez Bryant or Calvin Johnson. He can be replaced with better talent and that’s what chip did. And ok raiders have a Super Bowl and we don’t by I said jaguars too lol
Maclin destroys the injury prone argument by so many on here. Most destroyed Maclin before the season now they are fine with handing over 11 mil over 1yr production.
Bradford is the lightning rod. I can’t fault anyone for hating it.
215, Chip can’t win with me, but I think just about everyone else gives him the benefit of the doubt on this site. Now some are starting to get turned off by him but I’ve never been a fan.
Agreed about Bradford. Chip convinced me on the skillset with him and if you watch him throw he is really a accurate thrower of the football but “his” injury history has to be a concern for everyone…even if doctors cleared him to play. I gave him the benefit of the doubt tho because he really had nothing to work with over there and his coaches never helped him out on any level
My Draft Grades of 2015 Eagles Draft
Thru ROund 1 – Solid ( B )
Thru Round 2 – Promising ( B +)
Thru Round 3 – Questionable Selection & Injury History – ( B )
Thru Round 4 – Traded w/Lions missed out on OL – ( C)
Thru Round 5 – Trade both 5th for CB E Rowe, no moves to get back in the Draft Pool – (D)
Does anyone think that former GM Howie Roseman is chuckling a bit right now
I respect that big lion. Not here to force my view on anyone I just try to be logical about everything
I miss roseman
Damn henski you took it there.
LMAO…I said it in January, people be careful for what you wish for. My main concern right now is QB and O line…which has been neglected again.
the eagles suck…….should have drafted a damn olinemen…….shit
LOL..Man eagles are some hard fans..if we had gotten MM..There would be people on this forum killing chip..I feel he will never win till we get a superbowl.
All that being said put me on the ” I like this draft so far. Wish we had a pick in the 5th.I really dont care much about OL cause i feel guys can be developed easily from the late rounds and UDFA..Lets get B Bridge and another CB in the 6th then a OL in the 7th. Bring Collins in as a UDFA. Hey i can dream right??
Exactly Rhino.
Man i hope Derron Smith continues to fall and we get him in the 6th.
