Nelson Agholor: Focused On Getting Better Each And Everyday

I remember being frustrated with watching the USC offense a year ago because it seemed like they threw the ball to Nelson Agholor every play.  If he was in the slot they threw the ball to him.  If he was at one of the outside wide receiver positions they threw him the ball.  If he was lined up in the backfield the threw him the football.

I thought it was ridiculous but after listening to Agholor talk about the game of football yesterday, I could see that this youngster has a mindset of pursuing excellence to the point that you would make him a big part of the offense.

He is already very mature for his age and he has bought into every bit of Chip Kelly’s culture.

Everything is about “WINNING THE DAY”.  Get a little bit better each and everyday.  Both Agholor and second round draft pick Eric Rowe talked about how they both got better yesterday from the work they put in.  This is the Chip Kelly mindset and it’s the way he believes he can make this team a Super Bowl Champion.

“My mentality is to progress,” Agholor said. “I want to be a better player today. I want to be a better player tomorrow. Not worried about saying that ‘I’m the guy.’ I’m about getting better every day, and let the chips fall where they may from there.”

Checkout the humility.  When asked if he was going to the number one receiver, he took the conversation back to what he can control right now in this rookie camp, that started yesterday and will go today and tomorrow.

“That’s not the conversation right now”, Agholor shot back when asked about being the number one receiver.  “The conversation is about me getting better. Today was a great day. I got out there, kind of understood a little bit more the NFL speed. Put some things on film to learn from.”

“When Week 1 comes, I think that’ll be an easier conversation for us to have, but right now, it’s all about me trying to find myself.”

There’s a reason he looked like a polished NFL wide receiver in his final  year at Southern Cal.  The Trojan’s head coach Steve Sarkisian ran a Pro Style offense and Agholor knows every position backwards and forwards.

He talked about his knowledge of the game and started explaining why it’s so important that he know all the details and concepts involved in each play.  He’s very bright and he has a clear focus on mastering the mental aspect of the game.

You can see why they drafted Agholor.  He’s ready to play right now and don’t be surprised if you see him lined up all over the place.  Kelly is all about getting the right matchup

Aglohor, Matthews & Huff with some of these other young WR’s ( Davis, Bailey or Harris) could very well make a very good foundation of an excellent WR Corps for years to come

I agree with you Andrew p. Nelson Agholor has the potential to have that type of year under Kelly’s O. And true gloomy, in order for Agholor to have a rookie of the year type season Bradford must stay healthy. And who’s to say he won’t stay healthy? This is a new team with new coaches and players, so it’s a clean slate for Bradford. I say Bradford will flourish in Kelly’s O

That is a ridiculous statement! First, Chip stated publicly he wouldn’t mortgage the future on one guy. You like many got caught up in the rumor mill so you couldn’t believe Chip even if he told you the truth. He stated afterward that they contacted Titans but the price was way to exorbitant. He was NOT stuck with Bradford because going into it the probabilities were far too low that even ANY team could get that #2 pick.
Whether you like his methods or not, Kelly is pretty much a straight shooter… a man of few words and that bugs the heck out of many folks.

Excellent point Iggles…I’m confused as to what people want from Chip Kelly? No coach in the NFL can be completely and totally honest about every move made…but Chip Kelly gives us waaaay more insight than Andy Reid did and for the most part his moves are good ones.
Does this mean that he is above reproach….of course not…I still contend his major mistake was getting rid of DJax. He got nothing in return and the one who suffered the most was Nick Foles!
Again…its easy to bash his moves but Kelly is pursuing a sound strategy based on some calculated risks that may or may not work
There is a very good article in SB Nation about Chip’s gamble with getting injured players and how he is really banking on Shaun Huls the strength and rehab coach who helped Maclin, Kelce, and Jason Peters come back from major injuries….

Why contact the titans or the bucs at all if you don’t really want mariota makes no sense he got Bradford to flip him for mariota but since that didn’t work he’s now stuck with him.

If Bradford is who chip claims he is there’s no need to even contact the bucs or titans that’s like the colts calling one of those teams up when they already have Andrew luck cause chip talks about Bradford likes he’s luck face it chip got played

Gloomy… It’s called due diligence ..every team checks in with every other team during the weeks leading up to the draft. These guys work 100 hours a week, eat, sleep and breathe football. He got Bradford knowing he wouldn’t be able to get MM. I guarantee he doesn’t feel ‘stuck’ with sam…
How do you know who the colts called?

My main point is there is nothing that chip can say to make me believe that Bradford is a better qb than foles nothing to date shows me that I mean some players are good college players and some are good pro players the only thing the eagles keep talking about with him is what he did in college not what he did in the pro’s in the pro’s he’s ducked to date plus you gave up a 2nd Rd pick + 13million yeah chip got suckered…… in a sense I wish chip was never hired had they hired gus Bradley foles shady maclin and maybe DeSean woukd be here and the defense would be top 10 chip came in like the genius that he is took a bunch of that fit the 4-3 to a tee and made them 3-4 players and now wants to get rid of guys who aren’t tall enough or weigh enough cox would be the best dt in the league if he was in a 4-3 now he will just be good or ok hell Vinny curry can’t see the field cause they play a 3-4 brandon graham playing out of position as well as Cole when he was here. ..

U got Gloomy trying to throw gasoline on this talking about Bradford again in the negative, here goes what u need to know, 4600 yards n 27 TDs, that’s what Chip got from Regressed Foles n Sanchez combined last year, if he can get that from that combo he will get at least that from Bradford n Sanchez, this rookie WR is gonna put up number around what Watkins from buffalo n Odell with the Giants did n before people say that’s crazy remember this, he’s going into this system with the same amount of experience as Maclin had in it last year, NONE!

Gloomy djax, shady, foles, and maclin were on a 4-12 team just a couple years ago. Gus hasn’t even come close to doing what chip has done as a head coach thus far. Chip has won 10 games each season while battling injury after injury at major positions, going from a 4-3 to 3-4 and pretty much no secondary in both seasons. Seriously how can anybody not believe in this guy by now?

BigL I want to see the philosophy change this year. I want to see smash mouth big people beat little people mentality. I want to see 3rd and short and 4th and 1 conversions. I want see 4 shots from the goalline straight ahead smash.

I want to see everyone in the stadium no DeMarco Murray isgetting the ball on 3rd and 2 and they run it up the gut and he churns it out.

As far as wins….he didnt come in here with a viable option at QB and I still dont think we have one. So playoffs etc will be a stretch until it shows otherwise.

Defensively I dont want to see breakdowns with CBs on islands getting roasted. If i see that and dont see a pink slip given to Billy Davis we have problem.

IJ..I don’t know if you are going to see old fashioned smash mouth… 3 yards and a cloud of dust type of thing… I think you will see a power running game that still emphasizes the lineman getting to the second level– this should end up being very interesting…we need murray and Matthews in the 2000 yard total area is my hope

I agree HAC,
I can envision where Kelly will Run 55%-60% of the time which would come out to about 40-45 Rushes a Game to approx 30 Pass Plays…
Murray with 18-24 Carries a game Matthews with 12-18 and Sproles with a Few Carriers

On a Side note, with the Patriots QB T Brady most likely facing at least a 2 Game Suspension and possibly a 4 Game Suspension, wonder if Belicheck will want to bring in a Veteran QB in case back-up Jimmy Garrapollo has a set-back this Summer Camp..

Now that the roster has been reshaped ,Chip and the coaches are completely empowered to do things there way..its a reasonable assumption if he felt he couldn’t win with me-type guys of the AR era,and guys that didn’t fit his mode of play ,then he should be able to raise the bar on 10 wins. His means to an end ,has left him with still holes to fill, some he created ,others he was outmaneuvered as the neophyte GM .If he overcomes all these obstacles, some self inflicted ,then and only then will he be considered as good organizationally ,in an executive capacity as he is a field general..in my estimation it’s all on Sam I am …if he can’t take snaps from day one ..he’s miscalculated as an executive …and the coach will suffer those consequences..He spent almost all his executive capital on fixing the back end and the spotlight will shine brightest on Bill Davis…I like the fact that we not have to have any guesswork..I just hope we don’t need to..

How many 7th round picks really pan out? The Eagles could have and should have taken that chance. Considering the fact that we have a glaring hole at the G position. I don’t think there was any major Collusion going on .. If there was no Story, then Collin’s is Drafted in the Top 12-15
Once he became an UDFA, he was going to select a Team closer to his home area of Louisiana and a Team where he could Start at OT from Day which was not the Eagles… Fans need to move on from La’el Collins and forget about the Coulda,Woulda,Shoulda’s for he was not coming to Philadelphia either way….

What the NFL should have done was had Collins re enter the draft in 2016. That would have made it fair for the rest of the NFL teams. It was handled wrong

He should have gone in this years supplemental draft…but maybe they felt since the dude was innocent and they colluded to keep him out of the draft they would let him sign that UFA contract wherever he wanted.

Also, DMAN to your point — after the draft D. Gunn asked LLCB if collins was on their board, he said “no’ — a reasonable follow up would have been ‘was he on your board 2 weeks ago!”

Why was it handled wrong DMAN, You can’t deny a Man (Collins) of Earning a Living, once he was cleared by Authorities and after Teams had a Chance to do their own investigations, Once he was clear to go he was open to all 32 Teams where he could choose where to play which is not a bad thing in retrospect.. Unfortunately the timing was terrible for him as the entire Story broke about 24-48 Hours before the Draft so he didn’t get the lofty 1st Round Status or Contract, but instead he got to choose what Organization and City to Play for which isn’t a bad thing, and will be a Day 1 Starter at OT which is what he wanted instead of having to get moved inside if he were Drafted by the Eagles which is not what he wanted..

Hes starting at RG with the Boys I believe. They cant cut Free I think his money is guaranteed.

Plus taxes on a UDFA deal are BIG.

Not to mention Jerry will set this kid up with so many promotional opportunities in Dallas he will make a grip of money.

They re-did Doug Free’s Deal last year and it’s not big $$$
RG is Zack Martin, who is not moving anywhere
They will look to Trade RT D Free once Summer Camps open and La’el Collins will be the Starting RT from Day 1.. With as cheap as Collins is costing them, they can still afford to keep Free as insurance against injury to any OL
Cowboys are stacked at OL and have 7 NFL Ready OL plus Collins and 3rd Round Draft Pick OT Chaz Green from U of Florida that everyone is forgetting about..
My guess is that Doug Free will be traded for a Player on Defense ( A LB would be my guess)

I think what pisses me off the most is that Collins went to the Cowboys. Oh well
