Quarterbacks (3): Sam Bradford, Mark Sanchez, Tim Tebow
There you have it folks, three misfit former first-round busts who will all likely see the field at some point during the year.
I have Tebow making it over Matt Barkley. I think it’s pretty clear that Chip Kelly and the Eagles don’t think very much of Barkley (Howie Roseman pick?) considering that they tried hard to trade him over the off-season and weren’t interested in giving him a look in the meaningless Week 17 game against the Giants last year.
The third quarterback job is Tebow’s to lose, and I think they’ll keep him over Barkley just to add another gimmicky wrinkle to the offense.
Running Backs (4): DeMarco Murray, Ryan Mathews, Darren Sproles, Matthew Tucker
The only surprise I have hear is that Matthew Tucker makes it.
Tucker is a guy that looked very good in each of the last two preseasons, and I think he played well enough that he could have made the team if not for getting caught up in a numbers situation. I think the Birds will give him a long look this August.
Last year, the Eagles unconventionally carried four tight ends, and with James Casey no longer on the roster (and thereby eliminating any chance of the Birds holding more than three) I think that extra roster spot could go to Tucker.
Wide Receivers (6): Nelson Agholor, Jordan Matthews, Riley Cooper, Miles Austin, Josh Huff, Jeff Maehl
No major surprises here, unless you want to count Maehl as one.
Maehl is the textbook definition of a fringe player, but he’s got that Oregon connection which always gives a mediocre player an extra shot to make it. Last year, Maehl was clearly outplayed by Arrelious Benn and Damaris Johnson, but still survived the final cut.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see the same thing happen this year.
Tight Ends (3): Brent Celek, Zach Ertz, Trey Burton
No surprises here.
Offensive Line (9): Jason Peters, Evan Mathis, Jason Kelce, Allen Barbre, Lane Johnson, Matt Tobin, Andrew Gardner, David Molk, Dennis Kelly
Again, there shouldn’t be surprises here.
The Eagles decided to ignore the line for the second straight year, and the reserves who were already in place last year and picked up some valuable starting experience should have a significant leg up on any of the undrafted rookies that will be in camp.
Defensive Line (7): Fletcher Cox, Bennie Logan, Cedric Thornton, Vinny Curry, Brandon Bair, Beau Allen, Taylor Hart
Another group that shouldn’t go through much, if any, change.
Bair, Allen, and Hart aren’t necessarily locks to make it, but I’d be surprised if any of the newcomers beat them out. Bair is hardworking guy that also plays a nice role on special teams. Allen shouldn’t have much trouble holding off challengers for his backup job at the nose. Hart showed nothing in his rookie year, but has the Oregon connection going for him and Kelly liked him enough that he wanted to take him in the third round, so it’s hard to imagine him being let go.
Linebackers (9): Connor Barwin, Kiko Alonso, DeMeco Ryans, Mychal Kendricks, Brandon Graham, Marcus Smith, Jordan Hicks, Bryan Braman, Najee Goode
Linebacker is going to be one of the most interesting positions to watch during camp.
There’s going to be a great deal of competition for maybe one or two reserve spots.
Does Marcus Smith make it? Right now I say yes. Reports are that Smith has added some size, and it would be very surprising to see them give up on him after just one year.
Travis Long, Brad Jones, and Emmanuel Acho will all be in the mix here as well, but Jordan Hicks is a lock as third-round pick, Braman was just given an extension and plays a big role on special teams, really leaving only one reserve spot up for grabs.
Goode gets the edge because of his ability to move outside.
Cornerbacks (5): Byron Maxwell, Brandon Boykin, Eric Rowe, Nolan Carroll, JaCorey Shepperd
With Walter Thurmond apparently moving to safety, it opens up a spot for either Shepperd or Randall Evans to make the roster.
I give the edge to Shepperd, who will be groomed for a year to take over slot duties from Brandon Boykin.
Safeties (4): Malcolm Jenkins, Walter Thurmond, Jaylen Watkins, Chris Maragos
The notable cut here is Earl Wolff.
Wolff will be given a chance to compete for the job in Training Camp, but the Eagles don’t seem to have much confidence in him, given that they’ve had both Thurmond and Watkins move positions.
The writing on the wall is there for Wolff. He had two years to take the job away from Nate Allen, a guy the Eagles desperately wanted to move on from, and he couldn’t do it.
Specialists (3): Cody Parkey, Donnie Jones, Jon Dorenbos
No surprises here.
I see more new Players making the Roster Denny
Offense (24)
QB – (3) Same 3 (Sanchez, Bradford & Tebow)
RB – (3) Murray, Matthews & Sproles
WR -(6) Matthews, Agholor, Huff, Austin , Cooper & UDFA John Harris
TE – (3) Celek, Ertz & Burton
OL – (9) Peters, Mathis, Kelce, Barbre, Lane Johnson with reserves Tobin, Gardner, Kelly & UDFA Coccia

CB – (6) Maxwell, Carroll, Boykin,Rowe, Biggers & Shepard
Safety (5) Jenkins, Thurmond, Watkins, Maragos & Prosinski
Special Teamers (3) C Parkey , D Jones & J Donebros
I could see Prosinski, who played lights out on Special Teams be in battle with C Marago at Safety and think DB sneaks on for his Versatility also
There is a UDFA TE I like who could make the squad but probably aPractice Squad Player in 2015 6-6 & 260lbs whose names escapes me at the moment
I’m sure there will be a couple of undrafted guys that come out and make the team, there’s always at least two or three guys every year that shine in August and come out of nowhere to claim a spot…last year it was guys like Burton, Molk, and Bair (Bair wasn’t a rookie, but still fought his way on with a strong preseason), and we’ll see who it turns out to be this year come August.
In your assessment, I can’t see the Eagles keeping 11 defensive backs…maybe a sixth corner can make it (in my early picks, I have Matthew Tucker making it a fourth running back, that spot could just as easily go to a corner or another position depending on who shines in camp) but there’s no way I see five safeties making it…
We only have one legitimate safety on the roster that can play in this league in Jenkins, Thurmond and Watkins are converted corners that they’re going to try and get by with for a year, Maragos is here for special teams…if Prosinski makes it, he’s got to show some kind of potential on defense. You can only keep so many guys exclusively for special teams, and the Eagles already have guys like Maragos, Braman, Brad Jones, Trey Burton, Bair around who all excel in their respective special teams roles, so at this point it’s really hard for me to see them keeping two safeties who can’t actually be expected to contribute anything to the safety position.
But then again, Kelly seems to like to do anything and everything as unconventional as possible, so who knows…
Replace Prosinski with Safety Jerome Couplin who I keep forgetting about
The Eagles have carried 5 Safeties the last few Seasons
If it gets down to carrying 4 RB’s, 4 TE’s,9 LB’s or 11 DB’s
I am going with the DB’s for in today’s pass happy NFL you can never have enough DB’s and especial 1-2 CB’s who are versatile enough to play Safety
LastSeasons Safety Position was Jenkins, Allen, Wolff, Maragos, Prosinski and then Couplin was added when Wollf was placed on IR
2013 was Chung, Allen, Coleman, Colt Anderson &Wolff
I believe we will see 2 UDFA at the WR & OL Positions make the Eagles Roster …
Fun exercise, but meaningless. Final roster will depend on who gets hurt, or doesn’t come back from an existing injury, during preseason.
yeah Kelly himself said ‘I’m sure an UDFA or two will end up making the team…’ not a bold prediction there paul….
List of UDFA OL who have a solid chance of making the Eagles 53-Man Roster
1) Center – Mike Coccia – (6-3″ – 302lbs – Will need also learn Guard for Versatility)
2) Guard – Brett Boyko – (6-7″ – 301lbs – Long Arms, Great Feet, Played in Up-Tempo Offense in College at U of Nevada)
3) Tackle – Kevin Graff – (6-6″ – 309lbs – 3 Year Starter for USC, Long Arms, Solid Technique, not very Athletic, but efficient and smart.. Could supplant Dennis Kelly as a Swing OT
4) Guard/Tackle – Malcom Bunche – (6-6″- 320lbs- Played 4 Years for U of Miami then graduated and play 1 Season with UCLA playing both Guard/Tackle, Has nice Size, Strength and Good Feet for big guy, Can he remain Focus, and learn and play Multiple Positions as most Back-Up OL need to do..
I see 2 of these 4 Players listed above making the Roster to replace Dennis Kelly and David Molk or Justin Vandervelde
paul, so far you’ve predicted Doronbos and the guy from navy to be the long snapper– I predict you will be right in one of those predictions!
List of UDFA WR’s who have a very good chance of making Eagles 53 Man Roster
1) Devante Davis (6-3″ 215lbs) Smart, Physical, with Great Leaping ability and Catching Radius, Could be a nice Red-Zone Target and Replacement for Riley Cooper’s Role in Eagles Offense
2) John Harris (6-2 218lbs) Very Athletic, Nice hands, Picks the ball up well at the High Point of the ball, Played Basketball and was a State High-Jumper in Texas before College.. Played for 2 HC’s and about 6-7-8 different QB’s down at the U Of Texas during his time there who lacked a consistent Big- Time QB… John Harris is my Sleeper Player of this Summer Camp … Also very bright with a great work ethic..
I believe 1 of these Two will make the 53 Man Roster and the other lands on the Practice Squad for the 2015 Season,…
This Camp probably has the most Talented Young WR’s Competing than the Eagles have had in a few Years….
Other WR’s like Rasheed Bailey, Quoron Pratt to go along with Eagles Youngsters Jordan Matthews, Josh Huff, & Nelson Aglohor will really push Veterans Riley Cooper, Miles Austin, Seyi Aijirotutu & Jeff Maehl
It may get down to how well some of these young WR’s can play Special Teams that will make a difference on whether they make the Roster
I think Seyi Aijirotutu and Prosinski will make the team because of their special teams contributions. At the very least, one of them will make the team. Paulman I think your roster prediction, including B. Jones, Biggers, Prosinski/Couplin is more accurate.
I know Cooper’s contract is 80% guaranteed, but do you think Kelly would be bold enough to cut him in order to open up a roster spot?
Also Miles Austin will make this team because of his veteran presence and ability to positively influence the young receivers on this team.
This has nothing to do with football but man I was checking out random news and came across chris long and william hayes from the rams and really got emotional what I saw what they did. They dressed and lived as homeless men for 24 hrs just to get the experience and understanding on how they live….It was good to see espn push a positive story on homelessness in america. Me living in DC its a huge problem and I will continue to help and promote a end to this…You say to yourself just a geta job but it goes way deeper then that to people having mental disorders to people just having bad luck and just need someone to believe in them……..its a blessing we can get on here and talk eagles football but man imaging just wanting to somewhere to sleep or eat…..crazy…..just keep this in your prayers and go eagles
Devante davis will be my pick the guy is a monster with the ball in his hands
